Yet another Iron Gods game starting. When it rains,it pours. :)

I am looking for one more character to star in a PBP (Play By Post) version of Pathfinder’s Iron Gods Adventure Path. The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most. Please see this page (game in progress) for game format; the turn recaps there show what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Four players have already been invited; they are working on the following PCs:

- android shaman/speaker of the past (maybe a dip in oracle);
- Kellid Aberrant Bloodrager (Primalist);
- metal elementalist wizard; and
- summoner with a 'robot' eidolon.

Character selection will NOT be first come first serve, and we will take time to develop characters. The game will have action as well as problem solving so a good mix of characters is recommended.

The pace will be about a minimum of two to three turn recaps per week, and I will do all the ‘passive’ dice rolling (in the interest of speed, I’ll roll things like saving throws, perception checks, etc.). I am looking for "roleplayers" whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to post at least once EVERY day (more is better) so if you can't meet that schedule please do not bother applying to the game.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, c) personality, and d) portrait or picture. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game. See the page above if you would like to see a sample character as a reference on the type of submission I'm looking for.

Please read the free Player’s Guide and include in your recent history why your PC is in Torch. Once players are selected, we will work on a common background to determine if/how the PCs know each other (and may have even worked together in the past) or if they are just getting together now for the 'job/exploration'. Please note that PCs will start at 2nd level so it makes sense to have some sort of shared ‘adventuring’ background.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: core races + androids only, anything Paizo, 2nd level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average wealth for 2nd level, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, one regular trait and one campaign trait. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

I want to start soon so I'll accept applications until Sunday January 31, 2016 6:00 pm EST and select a PC shortly thereafter (same night).

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

Game on!

Fabian

What are you looking for in terms of classes? Something skilled? I get that fluff is more important than crunch, but as I haven't decided what sort of character to go with yet, I might as well create something that fills a niche.

If skilled is good, I have an idea for an elven unchained rogue that could be fun to play.

Grand Lodge

This interests me deeply. How do you feel about a character who starts out with no tech skills or knowledge? I'd like to play a human (or elven) paladin of Erastil who has traveled to this blighted land to find his missing sister despite the fact that he knows nothing about it and has a deep mistrust of technology.

Will give more info shortly. Also, are you requiring submissions to have drawn portraits because I'm not excactly artistically inclined.

Appearance:

Mystiel is a youthful-looking male of moderate build and genial features. His straw-coloured hair is tied back carelessly in a thin tail, suggesting that it is a result of convenience rather than fashion. He sports a leather vest over a a loose-fitting long-sleeved shirt of white cotton. His thick cloth pants and low-cut boots are clean but well-worn, suggesting that he has seen some travel in recent years. Oddly enough, he wears only a single glove on his right hand, which he never removes. When he travels, a sling hangs beside his belt-pouch and he carries an oddly-shaped club slung on his back, but otherwise appears to be a well-kept and educated but otherwise unremarkable commoner.

Backstory:

Myst's grandfather, Graeme, was a scholar in the Technic League who had been researching a way to improve the usability of technological firearms by solving the problem of their limited ammunition. The solution he came upon was a bioelectric charge generated by the user's body and channeled into the firearm via a port in a cybernetic arm. For years he labored on the concept and after years of tinkering finally completed a working prototype.

But although Graeme had attempted to keep his research a secret, jealous competitors in the League took notice of his research and the materials streaming into his laboratory, and deduced the nature of his research (though not its form). Graeme came under pressure from the upper echelons of the League's hierarchy to reveal the full nature of his research and surrender it to the league for 'safekeeping', for whilst the mages of the League possessed a rare few methods of maintaining the charges in the technological weapons, they jealously resented the prospect of renewable power for those weapons being available through a device that might find its way into non-League hands. His laboratory was placed under surveillance and he knew that it was only a matter of time before they came knocking.

Reluctant to give up his life's work, Graeme sought a solution. In his desperation, he looked to his grandson, Myst, who had served as his apprentice and assistant, and there was no one who knew more about the arm after Graeme himself. The prototype arm had a flaw - the device drew its bioelectric charge directly from the user's heart, but without proper calibration and due to several inefficiencies in the circuitry, it could not be used extensively without endangering the user (grit limits how often it can be used). But reasoning that Myst's young heart would be better-able to cope with the strain, Graeme installed the arm on his grandson and cremated the original. When the league eventually forced their way into the laboratory, they did not think to look under the sleeve and glove of the young lad who looked in fear as his grandfather was interrogated, then brutalised and finally murdered. Myst himself was beaten to within an inch of his life and left for dead.

As Myst struggled to pull together what was left of his life after that traumatic experience, he found that the flaw in his grandfather's prototype arm was greater than previously thought, for he learned (rather painfully) that the arm also the potential to glitch and draw a massive charge from his heart, leading to a heart attack. Furthermore, due to the arm's direct link to his heart, there was no way to safely detach the arm without triggering the glitch and risking a fatal heart-attack. Whilst Myst was able to jury-rig a temporary fix for the problem with the materials left behind in Graeme's laboratory, most of the materials that he needs for a more permanent fix were taken by the League.

Thus did Myst find the life of an adventurer thrust upon him. After gathering what provisions he could from his grandfather's laboratory, he set off into the harsh Numerian wastelands, praying to whatever gods of fortune that might be listening that he would find the components needed to fix his arm before the next glitch claims his life. His sojourns have recently brought him to the town of Torch. He suspects that the anomalies of Torch Hill are technological rather than magical in nature, and its relative autonomy from the Technic League makes it an ideal place for him to begin his search for the components he needs to fix his arm before it kills him.

If you permit, Myst will start play with a defective robotic arm that grants no mechanical benefit (it is mainly there to explain his grit mechanic and to be his reason for adventuring). We can work out when he finds the necessary parts to repair the arm, at which point I will pay the cost of a full robot arm to 'repair' it.

I will be simulating the covet charge deed mechanic as Myst channeling a bioelectric charge through his robotic arm. As the charge comes from his heart, he can only do so a limited number of times per day (limited by his grit) without endangering his life. Bursts of adrenaline (when he regains grit) often allow him to stretch that limit, but until he perfects the arm (hitting level 11 and getting the signature deed), he knows he needs to use it sparingly.

Mechanics-wise, Mystiel will be very straight-forward, being a single-classed techslinger.

Personality:

Myst is courteous, friendly and easy-going, ready to help those in need and with a particular fondness for children and cats. He has some skill in medicine and is sometimes called upon as a doctor, and though the availability of divine magic limits the demand for his skills, he is always happy to offer medical advice when asked. Despite his genial nature, however, he never seems to let anyone get too close and often avoids questions about his past or the reason for his glove. Even those who seem closer to him are only vaguely told (with an evasive smile) that he suffered an injury sometime ago and is looking for a way treat it.

In short: a friendly neighbourhood doctor with a mysterious past.

Mystiel is secretive only because he does not want to advertise the true nature of his arm, but it will inevitably come to light the first time he uses a technological firearm in battle, ideally after he has come to trust the rest of the party. At that time, he will share with them his past with the Technic League and ask that they keep his secret.

His portrait is the profile picture.

Skilled would be fine but you guessed right that fluff is way more important in this game.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I would consider such a PC.

No, not drawn portraits. I can't draw either but sometimes people get inspired with pics so see if you can find something 'out there' that represents your PC.

Good PC. I like the use of the mechanics in the backstory.

I'm fine with the reskinning of the hand/arm.

Would he start with a tech gun?

How will this covet charge be used?

Hay Hayato Ken,

The above would work.

I look forward to what you put together.

The techslinger archetype still starts with the same choice of personal firearm that normal gunslingers start with, but instead of getting the deadeye deed, they get covet charge. This does mean that techslingers are weaker than regular gunslingers until they actually find a tech firearm (without a tech firearm, the only thing they can use grit for at level 1 is gunslinger's dodge).

For your reference, the Techslinger archetype wrote:

Techslingers still start play with the black powder blunderbuss, pistol, or rifle granted by the gunsmith class ability, but they gain specialized powers for use after they gain weapons of advanced technology.

...

Covet Charge (Ex) At 1st level, a techslinger can spend 1 grit point to use 1 charge fewer than normal when firing a technological weapon (minimum 0), as long as the weapon has enough charges remaining to be fired at least once. This deed replaces deadeye.

Unless you are offering to let me start with a one-charge timeworn-firearm in place of my usual starting firearm. ;)

As for how I'll be using the arm in-character:

Every tech weapon in Pathfinder has a port that you can place a battery into to recharge the weapon.

The idea for Myst's prototype arm is that it has a cable-linked plug extending from the wrist that can be connected to the battery-port of a technological firearm. At the other end, the arm is wired to Myst's heart and draws cardiac bioelectricity from his heart. The arm funnels and converts the bioelectric charge into the tech firearm, providing it with power, similar to a battery (though putting a strain on Myst's heart). His grit will represent how much Myst can tax his heart in this manner without risking heart failure.

The arm is however a flawed prototype in the following ways:
1. Being timeworn, it does not provide any of the benefits that a normal cybernetic arm would (until you decide he has found enough parts to repair it, at which point I will pay the full cost of the arm).
2. The modifications made by Graeme have made it a little unstable - it has the potential to glitch at any time and draw a fatal amount of cardiac bioelectricity from Myst's heart. Attempting to remove the arm will invariably trigger that glitch, and so it cannot be safely removed either. Myst has been able to jury-rig a temporary fix, but is compelled to seek out components to permanently fix it. This is his reason for adventuring and what drew him to Torch.
3. It only works with pistols. However, after fixing the arm, Myst will continue to tinker with his arm to improve upon it, which will culminate in him making a breakthrough at level 11. He will take the feat Signature Seed: Covetous Charge, simulating him fixing various inefficiencies in the circuitry so that it can be used alot more frequently. He will also install a variable adapter so that the charge is able to power heavy weaponry (this being his Heavy Weaponry Deeds archetype class feature). =)

But as far as anyone knows, he's just "Dr Sange", an affable and kindly itinerant physician who came to town last year. ;)

Edit: I have updated his profile with his stats, san equipment.

@: Dr. Mystiel 'Myst' Sange

I'm Ok with what you posted. If selected, I would seriously consider allowing you to have some sort of tech pistol.

I'll look at your stats later today and let you know if there is anything that concerns me.

Can you provide some info on the other players races and if you have some race restrictions please?

Hayato Ken wrote:

I'm looking for core races and android only.

The other four PCs are three humans and one android.

Hi Fabian. I have a concept I'm excited about, but that really hinges on being a (small) halfling-born aasimar. He was accepted into a previous Iron Gods...but then real life hit the DM over the head and the game never began.

I'll post the fluff I'd written up for that game here, and you can read his previous stats in this profile.

Background:
1. What does your character look like? Please describe their clothes, and if they openly display any recognizable symbols (such as the emblem of a nation or the holy symbol of a god)
Small Tarl is a wild-eyed halfling with unusually long arms & legs, covered with black fur. He’s quite muscled for a halfling. He wears furs with many small totems stitched into the seams or dangling from leather straps: teeth of great saurians, a disk cut from a mammoth tusk...and a miniature “robot” made from twisted twine (that he crafted from the images in his nightmares).

Standing just behind him is Raksasa: an obviously predatory bipedal dinosaur, her hide a mottled mix of red and brown with a spray of crimson under her chin and on the spines that ridge her back. She stands 5’ at the shoulder and almost as wide, with three massive claws on each forearm, and jagged teeth visible between her gums.

Small Tarl often keeps one hand on it’s long thick neck when around people, in order to signal as best he’s able that the spinosaurus doesn’t need to be feared.

Spinosaurus Companion (Raksasa) reference image

He is very clearly out of place in Numeria, and often looks as panicked by this strange new land as the locals do by the massive predatory dinosaur that accompanies him.

2. How long has your character been in Numeria?
Just arrived, wide eyed.

3. What drives your character to adventure in Numeria? What will keep your character invested in this motley group?
Small Tarl sometimes wakes screaming with nightmares about something he's never seen--metal monsters. His dreams have led him to make the dangerous journey to Torch from the tropical valley surrounding Tolguth in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords where the Khoeli tribe have lived for thousands of years.

His motivations are a mixture of terrified-yet-resolute desire to Do What Needs To Be Done (not that he knows what that is yet, apart from his nightmare visions which you’re welcome to supply from time to time, as it suits you...otherwise I’ll fill them in myself periodically.). He’s also quite loyal and after building a bond with other adventurers will be invested in keeping them safe.

4. How does your character feel about new technology?
Awestruck, suspicious and drawn in, all at the same time. His anger and fear will flare particularly around robots but other tech is more of a blend of frightening and fascinating.

5. How does your character feel about the Technic League?
It’s a weird foreign thing in this weird foreign land...but his understanding of what it is will start out as next-to-zero.

6. Where is your character from?
He’s a member of the Khoeli tribe, a small compound-tribe of Kellid humans and halflings that dwells with the great saurians, in the tropical jungles around Tolguth in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. Within the Khoeli there is a subset of unusually hairy halflings (Agathion-blooded aasimar) like Small Tarl who have a special gift of connecting with the great saurians.

7. What is their personality like?
Anxious-to-terrified but determined (bordering on resigned/fatalistic). Loyal. Has difficulty speaking in a voice above a whisper. Quick to charge into battle but not always clear if that's his fearsome battle cry or if he's just screaming in terror.

8. What training did they undergo, if any, to become their class?
Shamanic training from a young age, since his gift was known.

9. Why does your character wield the weapon(s) they use?
He made his and Raksasa’s armor from the hide of a mammoth they felled together (mechanically, leather lamellar). He uses a (small) greatsword--the principal weapon of both the small and large folk in the Khoeli tribe.

10. If your character is religious, describe what lead them to their deity.
Small Tarl listens to the spirits that guide the Khoeli tribe (whether he wants to or not)...and when he doesn’t the nightmares increase.

11. Explain what your character's alignment means for them.
What does NG mean for Small Tarl? He cares about the lives of others and feels a spiritual duty to preserve life in general (animals, as well as humanoids). He would feel very happy to return to the tropical jungles he was born in--and away from frightening people and robots--but his sense of duty (as well as his nightmares, which he knows are sent by the spirits) keep him from doing so.

I'm happy to write out a more detailed Background answer in the format you've requested...but first I wanted to ask if I should continue, since you've asked for only Core + Android and I'm not sure how this character could survive a transition to another race.

Thanks!

Eh, I think your PC is... unusual.

I'm curious. Why couldn't your PC just be a halfling?

Why would this PC be in Torch?

Why not just be a halfling: Well, I like the idea of a small STR-based warrior. This is really someone where I love the image of him (small warrior, terrorized by nightmare images of metal monsters he's never seen, barely able to speak above a whisper when not screaming in terror). I have a strong image of how to play him...but (while I don't need my character to be optimized), with a 20pt buy there's really no way to make that happen. (-2 to STR on a 20pt buy really kills his ability to function as a STR based character). Honestly, if Aasimar was off the table I might just make him an unusually short human. I could see his small size being more fluff than mechanical...but I like the image of an insular tribe of humans and halflings, where the halflings sometimes exhibit angel-touched characteristics.

Why in Torch? The origin of this character was really the Robot Hunter trait. That's what I started with, and started thinking of an interesting Robot Hunter. I came up with the idea of someone whose dreams had been tormented by images he didn't understand, and who'd been compelled to journey to Torch by those images. I've thought about applying with this character to something other than Iron Gods...but I think for me this is the only AP he fits in.

I should also note, the mechanics are more flexible for me than the overall concept. I could easily build him as a Hunter, a Mad Dog Barbarian, or even a vanilla unchained Barbarian with no pet, if one of those seems like a better fit for the game to you.

It reads like you are forcing the mechanics to fit the character concept.

You can be a halfling who rides a dino into battle or a human with an animal companion. You can't have it both ways. :)

And the angel-touched also seems more mechanical than anything else.

I don't know what to tell you. I don't like making players do extra work but the character as it stands will not be considered further.

The later options you mention seem a lot more suitable.

Questions?

I totally understand. As I think about it, I think the (short but Medium sized) human option is fine. The dino is fun but isn't core to the concept. As I'm tweaking backstory, do you have a sense of Hunter, Mad Dog Barbarian, or Barbarian without companion fitting best in your game?

I already have a summoner with a robot eidolon and a wizard with an alien familiar so I would rather avoid further companions. Therefore, barbarian without companion would fit best.

I also already have an aberrant blooded bloodrager (experimented by the Technic League) so I would try not to overlap too much with that PC.

Feel free to peruse the discussion thread which is where everyone is posting their PC ideas.

All that being said, a great backstory trumps anything...

For starting gear, since the game is starts with the players at 2nd level with 1000gp starting gold, would you permit me to buy with the starting gold a single-charged timeworn sonic pistol?

Cost breakdown:
Base - 13,000gp
Timeworn - 6500 gp
1 charge left - 650gp

It's relatively cheap, but would also be just barely usable (if anyone apart from myself fires it even once, it becomes useless).

I've also updated Myst to 2nd level.

Yeah, if selected, we would do something like the above. I'm not sure on the details but we would work something out.

It would be a shame to let the story go to waste. :)

Fabian, I've been mulling this over. You seem to have brought together a strong group of roleplayers, which makes this very appealing, and I think Small Tarl can be turned into a human and still be viable...but between your group already having enough "pets" and already having a bloodrager, I suspect any way of building him will encroach too much on existing characters. Given that, I'll bow out but keep an eye open for future recruitments of yours.

Cheers,

Well, sorry to hear that. I was looking forward to a PC from you (not necessarily Small Tarl).

Hi, ya'll! I'm Hailey, the android space cowgirl from the outer rim.

I would LOOOOOVE to play Iron Gods! Been trying to get Haileyanka into one...

a) appearance:
Hailey Nine is not the most attractive Gynoid (that's a female Android for those that don't know) But I ain't the ugliest one neither! About 4'9", reddish artificial hair, pale plastic skin, wide brimmed cowgirl hat. If it weren't for those flintlocks on her hips you might think she was sweet!

b) Backstory:

Okay, backstory short and sweet. Like her.

Blinking in the sunlight as the glass slid away Haileyanka Nine sat up. She wasn't surprised at that crick in her neck after 1000 years in the stasis pod. But she wasn't worried about that... [reba voice]Finally I'll resume my quest for revenge on those yellow bellied cowards![/reba voice] she said. But just who was it she was after anyway? Should scratched her noggen but couldn't remember. Drat! Those memory circuits w'll need some repairs again. But first, I'll be needin' to find some guns...

And where's my damn hat??

c) personality:
Ever since those pesky farmers on Helion Prime installed that yee-haw chip, Haileyanka's been a bit bubbly and sarcastic. She's always got some witty comment for every situation. But mostly the only person that ever laughs at her jokes is herself.

Just gonna put her down here too. She is already in the running for two other Iron God APs, so why not another to hopefully get into one. If selected, I'll just bump her up to 2nd lvl.

So what will you do if you get selected for more than one game?

This question applies to other applicants as well that have applied to the other games.

I hope I don't come off as irrational but I want to make sure that if you are selected, you are not going to quit on me after a short while.

Great. There's still approx. 48 hours to submit but the sooner the better so I can start making connections with the other players.

Looking forward to it.

It's a perfectly legitimate query. I'd withdraw from the other recruitment threads if I am selected for this one. I want to play Mystiel in an Iron Gods campaign, but I sure as heck do not want to play him 4 times in 4 identical campaigns simultaneously! XD

One of the other threads I signed up in has the same deadline as your's but the GM has expressed a preference that we do not start with any knowledge of technology, a preference which clashes sharply with Mystiel's story, so I doubt I would be selected for that one. The other two I should have time to withdraw from if I am selected for this game. =)

Mystiel sums it up well for me. That, and the deadline is more set.

Thank you both for the 'commitment' to a single game.

Like I said before, I pretty know what I'm looking for so I won't beat around the bush. I'll make my decision Sunday at 6:00 pm and start the game right there and then.

Stats aren't quite done yet but here's everything else. Camrad is a 2nd level paladin with the Divine hunter archetype. Lemme know if you have any suggestions.

Background:
Camrad Is no stranger to the horrors of technology. Growing up in Iandeveigh, he was taught to hate the metal monstrosities that skulked about the outskirts of the forest and fear the nefarious toxins of the blighted lands. Yet, despite this Camrad believed his quiet, peaceful life with his mother and sister was secure under the grace of Erastil.

He was naive.

One year, Iandeveigh was rocked by a series of earthquakes. The Dead-Eye council quickly surmised that the strange tremors were likely coming from some sort of failing technology within the ruins under the city. Eolas (Camrad’s mother) , concerned for the safety of her family, volunteered for the expedition underground. While the mission was successful, it came at a terrible price. Nearly every scout was either killed or horribly maimed. As for Eolas, she was exposed to dangerous lethal levels of radiation and soon grew terribly ill.

Camrad tended to his mother tirelessly for days desperately believing that her condition would improve. He was still young and didn't fully understand the nature of her condition at the time. In her final days Eolas had frantically begged her son to take care of his sister Sera. “You watch over her.” she had said “Never let her leave your sight. You hear me?”.

Eolas passed a few days later and since that day he vowed that he would always be there to protect Sera.

Over the next few years Camrad searched for ways to ensure his sister’s protection. First he sought the forest and it was there that Erastil spoke to him for the first time. Camrad was shown how to hunt and get what he needed out of the forest while also being taught respect for the animals and flora that sustained him.

Then, when he came of age, Camrad enlisted into the scout regiment. Here he quickly soared through the ranks, finding that he could wield a longbow with such natural ease to appear as if he was born to use it. This to was Erastil’s work, Camrad knew, and he accepted the gift, using it to become the guardian Sera needed.

Years passed and Sera had grown to become an intelligent and strong young woman...

…..and restless.

Despite her brother's best efforts, Sera’s eyes gradually turned outward, away from stifling Iandeveigh. Camrad wanted so badly to forbade her from leaving, but he knew his sister and knew to that it was impossible to dissuade her once she set her mind to something. So it was, then that with a heavy heart, Camrad watched his life's purpose disappear into the woods. “Maybe now…” he thought “...it's time to let my burden go.”

Sera kept in contact naturally, sending letters every few months. It warmed Camrad’s heart to read about the fantastic adventures she was having and all the friends she had made.

Then suddenly, the letters stopped coming. As the weeks dragged on, Camrad started to wonder if Sera was in danger. He fought an inner struggle, torn between his concern for his sister's well being and his desire to let her enjoy her own life. His answer came to him during one of his frequent excursions into the wilds. He came upon a wounded elk and, knowing the elk to be the holy animal of Erastil, promptly dressed it's wounds. However, instead of fleeing into the woods, the elk simply walked a few paces and turned to watch him as if it were waiting for something. Camrad, unwilling to ignore such an obvious sign from his god, followed the beast. They walked for many hours until they reached their destination, the outskirts of the forest. Camrad had made up his mind then. He shouldered his long bow and turned his back on the only life he had ever known.

Camrad has traveled to Torch searching for information about his missing sister. His only lead is a strange amulet bearing the image of a black claw teaching towards the heavens which he found in Sera’s deserted flat.

Appearance:
Camrad appears to be a man in his mid-twenties, of a muscular yet lean build. His chestnut colored hair and beard have been closely cropped though they appear somewhat uneven.

Camrad wears green brown leather armor under his pine green traveling cloak and wields a long bow that has been carved into the likeness of an elks antlers.

He looks about warily, his sharp eyes drinking in every detail of his surroundings.

Personality:
After years of safe guarding his family Camrad has time for little else. Practically anything that doesn't move him forward on his quest is put on the back burner. As a result Camrad cares little about social interactions and personal apearances, though that doesn't keep him from speaking his mind and those who gain his trust will find that he can be a stalwart companion; one that will always lend an ear or a well placed arrow to friend in need.

Over the past few days Camrad has taken notice of the world around and though he still has a deep distrust of technology, he can't help but marvel at what it has accomplished in places like Torch, where the community has thrived despite the stark contrast in scenery to Iandeveigh. Recent events in Torch trouble Camrad and he's found that he can't stand by and let these honest people lose their livelihood and subsequently fall under the metal boot of the technic league. As such, he has chosen to throw in his lott with this band of intrepid adventurers.

Stats aren't quite done yet but here's everything else. Camrad is a 2nd level paladin with the Divine hunter archetype. Lemme know if you have any suggestions.** spoiler omitted **...

very nice.

What would be his campaign trait (i.e., how will you tie him to the AP)?

Did his sister go to Torch?

Yeah she lived there. I'm thinking I'll pick either Robot Slayer or Against the Technic League. Maybe Camrad thinks they had a hand in Sera's disappearance.

a) appearance:

Tall and lean for her kind, this person obviously originates form the wild north. The untamed black mane hides a comely face with jade-green eyes and the tanned skin of those spending many hours under the sun of the wasteland.

b) background:

Deep in the north, in the realms of the mammoth lords, where the wild Kellid roam the brutally cold tundra and mountains of northern Avistan, Kagur was born under a suspicious sign into the tribe of the blacklions.
Her mother labor pains started with dusk, just as light in the night sky appeared. It grew larger and dragged a bright trail through the darkness, turning out to be one of the falling stars, going down somewhere in Numeria. Just when it vanished out of sight, Kagur entered the world.
In the eyes of her superstitious people, this was a very bad omen and most of the clan elders viewed Kagur with suspicion. She grew up with the scorn of being shunned, born under a bad star, hearing tales from the rain of stars and the horrors and wonders wandering the planes of Numeria since then. Having a difficult standing among her own people, those stories triggered Kagurs curiosity and one day the anticipated happened. She found a technical device while hunting and brought it back home, where she studied it and managed to activate it. Unfortunately this didn´t go unnoticed. The tribe´s elders saw their suspsicions confirmed and they decided to ban Kagur from the tribe for breaking the taboo of using the forbidden technology, before she would anger the spirits and conjure some catastrophy down on the tribe.
She didn´t have many friends who spoke for her and her mothers lamenting went unheard. Her father didn´t speak up on the subject and agreed to the elders decision. He was bitterly disapointed in his daughter for breaking the taboo and giving in to her curiosity and confirming the bad omens.
The next day she left, wandering alone in the Numerian planes, headed toward the next human settlements she knew of, eventually stranding in Torch. She found out quickly it wasn´t a good idea to go adventuring alone, exploring ancient ruins, for the dangers lurking there as well as the technic league jealously protecting their knowledge and power and trying to hunt down everyone "stealing" precious artifacts.
Torch however was a more friendly and open place, so she decided to stay there, trying to learn more and waiting for her chance to come.

c) personality:

Instead of describing the personality with examples i give an outline how i imagine and want to play this character:

1. Primary Motivator: Discovery/Adventure

2. Emotional Disposition: Curious

3. OUTLOOK
Outlook is one’s basic worldview, interpreting the world as being essentially good or bad: Cynical

4. INTEGRITY
Basic values regarding work and social interactions: pragmatic

5. IMPULSIVENESS
The ability to regulate one’s thoughts and actions: capricious

6. BOLDNESS
Willingness to face danger and enter into battle: audacious

7. AGREEABLENESS
General attitude towards people and the ability to handle new situations, tough choices, and interpersonal conflicts: open-minded

8. INTERACTIVITY
Style and degree to which your character interacts with others: entertaining

9. CONFORMITY
Basic relationship with cultural norms: freethinking

10. Sense of Humor
Cynical

Favorite Topics of Conversation
Kagur loves to talk about Numerian artifacts, strange events in history, strange beasts, but is also interested in local talk and events and tales from far away lands.

Group Affiliations
The affiliation with her tribe broke when she was banned. She´s undecided if she would like to repair that one day or not. Currently she´s trying to build some affiliation with Torch.

Religion and Spirituality
Kagur shares the spiritual and superstitious beliefs of her tribe, since that is the world she knows. Yet she is torn, because of the bad fate asociated with her. She doesn´t really believe or doesn´t want to believe that, while she is also magically attracted by the tabooed technology. She developed the opinion, that much of the superstistion is nonsense and those things could eventually be explored and mastered.
Beyond that she believes in the animistic and shamanistic traditions most of the Kellids share.

Quirks, Habits, and Oddities
The cirumstances of her birth left a deep mark on Kagurs life and social interactions. This ingrained the wish to constantly proof herself somehow and show others she´s no bad luck, what goes so far that she makes up things to better fit in sometimes.
Unconsciously, she often bites her lip to await others reactions.
When she´s deeply concentrated she often hums or sings to herself, but most times stops when others appear.

Hobbies and Enjoyments
Like every good Kellid, Kagur likes eating and drinking, as well as singing and dancing. Beyond that she ahs a deep interest in numerian alien relicts and likes exploring and researching those things.

Crunch & Comment:

This character features a heavy rogueish vibe while being a barbarian. Hence i would like to combine Numerian Scavenger UC rogue with savage technologist barbarian. For the IG AP, i feel this might be a unique and fun to play combination for me, dual wielding a gun and sabre, ranged and melee combat are provided along with skills.
However, i´m flexible there and could play the concept as a pure rogue or rogue/techslinger gunslinger.
While androids are really interesting, especially with the barbarian that would feel a bit like cheating and doesn´t also for the concept somehow. First choice would be a human, but for diversity i would consider half-orc, half-elf or halfling too.
Gender choices don´t really influence my roleplay that much, but i like most female art and portraits better somehow^^

As a campaign trait i would like Numerian Archologist, since i think that fits the background nicely.
Additionaly, the most recent background in Torch is missing, since that should be determined together, what is also best i think to give the party a common tie-in and better roleplay options.

Ok, very nice as well.

So you would go dual-classed (one level each)?

Hi, just want to submit Thelx, the android bard!. I know an android bard seems a little weird, but Thelx is more of a "lore and knowledge" bard than a "get on stage and sing" bard. The crunch in this alias was for level 1, but can be updated easily enough.

The essence of his character is that he wants to find out more about where androids came from. He's spent the few years since being "born" mostly working in a Technic League research facility, learning about the Silver Mount and where it came from. When he escaped from the League and made his way to Torch, he continued researching on his own. His personal quest can be summarized as simply "Who am I?"

Like a couple others here, this character has also applied to join a different Iron Gods campaign and would withdraw from that one if he's accepted here.

Edit: I wrote up a longer backstory but it apparently times out if you wait too long between saves in the "edit profile" page, so I got frustrated and chopped it down to the very basics for now lol.

Camrad is finally good to go. Check my alias for a link to my sheet.

Probably yes.

@Thelx, Hayato Ken, Camrad: Thank you for different answers/submital.

@Everyone:

Just a few more hours left. I hope you all had a chance to take a look at the type of game I want to run and know that it requires time and effort from the GM (I got that covered :)) and the players.

The last thing I want is to introduce a new PC to have the player figure out that this is not the type of game they want to play in and then leave.

This game will be heavy in roleplaying with a healthy dose of combat, but it's the story aspect of the game that interest me the most. I expect a decent post every day and expect that you guys roleplay among yourselves as well as with NPCs. You'll have a chance (be expected?) to contribute to the world by making locations, NPCs, items, etc.

Any questions?

You'll hear from you shortly after 6:00 pm today.

Game on!

All you Androids better not go all "Ash" on us and try to kill us. :D

GM:

Had a quick skim of the backgrounds of the existing characters. 2 thoughts:

1. I'd have a direct hook to Jeyne since Myst would be interested in seeking out Khonnir to discuss what he found in the caves and see if he managed to salvage any parts that might aid in the fixing of his arm. If Khonnir has gone missing, Myst would probably end up speaking with Val - whether Zaken misinterprets the nature of Myst's interest in the Baine family is up to him. ;)

2. Even more interesting would be Myst's identification of himself as a doctor, which to Myst means physician, but which to 7 (and maybe Malka) means something else entirely. Probably would not help that Myst sports a (albeit hidden) mechanical arm and an energy weapon, and he would need to work at convincing them that he is not himself a member of the League (the irony being that he too is hiding from the League).

Couple of hours till decision time. May the best most suitable applicant win!

Decision time is never easy because I hate to see players that put time and effort NOT get selected (been there, done that). However, the sad truth is that space IS limited.

So without beating around the bush, I'd like Camrad to join the game. Please report to the discussion thread as I will post the game's first turn shortly.

There were a couple of other PCs submitted that would have been picked had I more space.

Thanks again and happy gaming!

It was a pleasure, gentleman

Guess that would be why I applied to more than 1 Iron Gods game.

Congrats Camrad. =)
