Nsizi |
The pure bizarreness of the scene stopped Nsizi in his tracks. Ghouls, caring for a library? It wasn't until one of them started shambling his way that he realized their danger.
For the second time that day, Nsizi called upon the spirits to lend them their weapon. A glowing iwisa pooped into existence before his eyes, and spun around the oracle. Should one of the ghouls attack him, it would help deflect the attack. If not, he had another weapon with which to use.
Zeljka Greenfoot |
Not that Zeljka would care but I do...what kind of damage is there to the library? How were the ghouls fixing the library when we entered?
Oh and one more thing...why is it always ghouls?
Zeljka wasn't completely sure what they had stumbled upon but she did recognize nefarious movements when she saw them. It was obvious that they meant them harm. Studying their movements and looking for weaknesses, Zeljka moved forward to attack with her falchion. She raised her blade before bringing it down swiftly to slice into undead flesh.
Studying target which will also give bonuses to her knowledge roll as well.

If her sense motive roll reveals something surprising, she won't necessarily attack.
Fabian Benavente |
Oh and one more thing...why is it always ghouls?
It's always ghouls (or some other form of undead or construct) because those things can stay trapped in a place forever and it 'makes sense' since they don't need to eat, drink, pee, take a smoke break, etc. :)
I intend to move this along later today.

Zeljka shook off whatever foulness the ghoul injected into her with its bite. Instead of hurting the half-orc, the ghoul had just made her angry. The slayer used her magic speed to eviscerate the undead before turning her attention to the one that remained.

Nsizi |
That's hilarious, I totally didn't catch that typo. Had to go back to see what you were talking about. Clearly the ongoing poop conversation between my 4 and 6 year olds is starting to have an affect on my brain.
Nsizi started flailing at the ghoul with his morningstar. Can you flail with anything other than a flail? Why is it a verb, and yet sword and morningstar aren't? Min's spell lent speed to his movements - it was an amazing feeling. So amazing, he overstruck the second time, and smashed up a few books rather than the ghoul.

Minercuria Cicensis |
Feeling she had done her part, Min had no intention of stepping out in the open where the ghouls could reach her. From her reasonably safe position in the corridor, she attempted to fling a conjured glob of acid over Nsizi's shoulder at the nearest undead.

Nsizi |
Looking at the flooded tunnel, Nsizi remarked, "This must be the other end of the tunnel we saw from the floating plynth. It is good to know that we do not need to swim. I wonder if this door," he gestured to the south, "is a way of bypassing the earthslide."
Turning then to Zeljka, he saw that parts of her face were still white and blistered from the cold. Pulling the cure wand from his neswambi, he said, "Poor Bufi -the cold was not kind to you. We should heal this before we go on."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Any chance of getting through this door from this side? Where's a rogue when you need one?
Zeljka Greenfoot |
Hey! I have disable device...
Zeljka has finally started warming up with the exertion of the ghoul slaughter. She grunts her thanks to Nsizi for having concern for her well-being.
She takes a closer look at the door. First the half-orc studies it to see if there are any obvious traps. Then she tries to figure out whether or not she can open it.

Although the half-orc did not find any traps to speak of, she did find it very difficult to open up the door. The door was jammed by something on the other side...
Nsizi |
Nsizi was torn. "I am not eager to go back to the cold tunnel, but I feel like perhaps we have missed something back there. But I guess it makes little difference weather we go there first or later. Bufi, will you please break the door? Mina and I will be ready in case the noise brings something nasty."
Okay, okay, keep your shorts on. We'll bust through. I'll keep an eye on the secret tunnel, in case something comes from behind.
Zeljka Greenfoot |
Dude! I just got the info this morning and some of us have to work :)
Zeljka looked at the door and decided that it may be better to hack her way through than trying to push it open. But she also didn't want to wreck her falchion. Pulling out her machete, she begins to chip away pieces of the door.
Zeljka is chopping it down with her machete....Heeere's Zeljka!

Nsizi hissed in pain as the mjusi's sharp teeth sliced into his arm. Rather than follow up with another blow, Nsizi reacted instinctively to the creature who'd bit him. Using their close proximity to his advantage, he reached out a hand and touched the creature. As soon as he made contact, he released a surge of electricity, which arced through the lizard and into the bookcase behind him. The creature screamed in pain, a high-pitched wail.

Zeljka moved herself between the lizardfolk and Nsizi. The half-orc's voice rumbled, "Nsizi, get back and take care of yourself." As she interposed herself, she drew her falchion across the torso of one of the clerics and cut them deep.

Bleeding and in pain, Nsizi stepped back to allow Zeljka more room to maneuver. He hated leaving her two to fight, even for a moment, but he knew another bad hit could take him out of the fight completely. Retrieving a healing potion from his neswambi, he drank it back quickly, hoping to rejoin Zeljka in her fight.

Zeljka Greenfoot |
Action 1:
Zeljka gasped as the darkness seeped into her body and made her feel weirdly sick. While the more learned of the group took a look at the books on the table, the half-orc searched the bodies and roughly tossed them aside when finished. "So who's this Kelizandri they spoke of and what were they researching?" As she spoke she halfheartedly flipped through some of the books on the table while she waited for an answer.
Action 2:
Zeljka cautiously approached the other door out of the room. She listened at the door but waited for the others before opening it.

knowledge religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Just in case. Also, I took all the scrolls for Nsizi. Also, just realized I already have a MW spear that's better than my morningstar. I've never used a spear before - is it just a reach weapon? Or can I use it like a normal melee weapon?
Nsizi apologized to Bufi, "Sorry, seemed like the thing to do." He was still hurting, however, so he used one of the last two charges of their wand of healing. "Does anybody else want to use the last one?"
CMW wand
Nsizi also took a look at the books. "I wonder if this is important to the growing storm, or if it was merely studying for them.
When everybody was ready, he said, "Another door. I will try it this time." He checked to see if it could be opened.
Nsizi |
Action 1
Nsizi was fascinated by the texts. "This is a difficult choice. We could learn something valuable here, but time is also of the essence. Perhaps we could spend just one hour studying these texts?"
tag
Nsizi frowned. "I do not like the sounds of in in there. I think we have found the back door to the air tunnel. I do not know which is worse - the cold, or the lightning."
Looks like I should have taken protection from elements, not from evil. Will cast guidance instead.
Nsizi asked the spirits to guide them through the door.
Minercuria Cicensis |
Action 1
Min picked up Rhetorical Exploits in Conjuration with a gasp of delight. "There was a copy of this in the library at the Academae! Oh, I must take it back to Pridon's Hearth for the guild! This book on the planes would be helpful as well."
With difficulty, she was drawn away from mentally shelving tomes in her future library to the problem of keeping the colony from being washed away so the guild could be built in the first place. "Nsizi is correct: the lizardfolk undoubtedly used these writings to start up this 'engine.' If we are to shut it down again, the information in these books could be invaluable."
Action 2
"If lightning is striking right on the other side of this door," Min cautioned, "it might not be safe to open it. The books could be damaged. Perhaps we should travel by plinth."
I'd suggest going on while our spells are still active and returning to do some more research when they've worn out (or when we've gone as far as we can on today's resources).
Zeljka Greenfoot |
Action 1:
Studying opponents was one thing but studying books was a completely different story. "If you two want to stay and read, I'll keep looking. But it seems to me that the books will still be here when we're finished searching the temple."
Love the Poems to Contemplate while Drowning. That is a book I'd like to read.
Action 2:
Zeljka shook her head, "I'm not going back into the cold. We've dealt with whatever has been behind each door until now. This one shouldn't be any different. If it's lightning inside then it must be controlled or harnessed somehow. Don't worry, I'll go first."
