Zeljka looked down and saw the empty bags Nsizi had taken and never got to use. "We may be able to make a small opening in the carriage and place the bag over the opening giving the cat only one direction to flee the carriage. We can soothe the animal afterwards but if we just open the carriage then there's no controlling where the animal goes."

Can Zeljka use her profession as a trapper to catch the cat?

"I'd summon Hep, but I think moving all those heavy things piled in the barricade would be too much for her!" Min shouted over the wind, holding her hat on her head to keep it from flying away. She put away the umbrella long ago, as the rain was as likely to hit her horizontally from various directions as vertically; besides, at this point, she couldn't get any wetter. "Shifting things may bring the whole barricade down! Ought we really to endanger everyone's homes and belongings for one cat?"

Sure, I would give you a chance to do that.

Remember that I need an accompanying 'social roll' when you are doing something social (diplomacy, bluffing, intimidating, etc.)

No to convincing the man and yes to catching the cat.

Just realized that I didn't take 2 more background skills when levelling up. I'll fix that....sometime....

"Spirits, guide my words, let us get this man and get to safety soon," Nsizi prayed quietly as they entered Amal's house.

Quote:
Zeljka grunted, "Which is also why you should be at Stone Hall instead of here."

As the man stammered a response, Nsizi watched him carefully. He seemed truly concerned for their well-being, but he'd pulled himself physically as far from them as he could. He was clearly very anxious, and not just about the storm.

Going out on a limb, Nsizi said, "Your home is lovely. Very comfortable, very cozy. Difficult to leave, even in such a storm. And the Stone Hall will be crowded. I prefer the solitude of my hema back on the savannah. It is small and light, I can take it with me when we follow the antelope. Then I set it up again, and there is my cozy home."

Watching the man carefully during his speech, Nsizi concluded that he was right - the man was afraid to come from his house, to be surrounded by strangers and strangeness. Hoping to convince him, the Bas'o continued, "Kaka Longroad, he has the stone hall, is a kind man. We can find you a quiet place, not too many people. It will be much safer. Please, Kaka Rashid, let us take you with us, and be safe from this storm."

What Nsizi does at the cat stop will depend if we have Rashid with us or not.

Zeljka eyed the barricade and the position of the carriage. "It won't be too difficult. The cat wants to be freed so I just need to control where it runs." Approaching the carriage with one of the bags, the half-orc formulated a plan. The fact that the cat was quite rotund made her job a lot easier. Using her solid frame to block the majority of the door, Zeljka cautiously opened the door to the carriage. Her hand shot in and she was able to scruff the cat. She snatched him out of the carriage before he could do more than caterwaul and placed him in the bag to prevent him from clawing any of them in his distress. She made sure that there was enough air getting into the bag and quickly headed for Stone Hall. "Let's get dry and get this cat back to its owner."

Amal had dealt with Longroads before but he had always gone in the quietest part of the day.

However, the approaching storm and Nsizi's soothing words prompted him to close things up as best he could and move towards the safety of the Stone Hall.

Busy day today and I help run a scout troop Monday nights. Thanks for waiting on me. :)

Thank you for your help talking sense into Maso. The halfling says to Nsizi. Unsure if this foreigner would understand the gesture Osbun offers him his hand saying My name is Osbun Icehouse. It is good to meet a new friend even in this weather. My friends call me Oz. I would be honored if you would call me that as well.

As Nsizi and Osbun slowly made their way to Amal’s, they called and searched for Delour but are unsuccessful. I promised I would look for the creature.Oz says with some misery in his voice. You go on ahead. I shall continue my search.

Perception to both find the cat and to find a safe path to it.: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

As he searched the halfling's keen ears picked up the mews of his quarry. Calling the animal he triangulated its location the best he could and closed in on the cat. He removed and dried his backpack thinking to catch Delour in its now dry main cavity. As he comes around the corner he runs into Zeljka and Minercuria both obviously engaged in his planned activity. [i]Allies.[/b] he thinks as he moves forward speaking loudly in order to be heard over the weather. Greetings fellow cat catchers. Maso has also set me at this task. I have a dry here and am quite small myself. If a space can be made perhaps I can crawl to the cat and entice it into the confines of my pack?

Nsizi took the offered hand - strangely dry - and shook it firmly. "Greetings, Kaka Oz. I am Nsizi of the Bas'o." He looked at the vidogo man, who looked nothing like Muhdzuzi, and said, "You are not of the local Song'o. Have you come..." a particularly violent gust of wind blew his words away, and Nsizi grimaced. "Let us finish here, quickly, so we can speak more when inside. And dry." Though the small man didn't look as wet as Nsizi felt.

Nsizi had never seen or heard of anything like these water-men before. In fact, he was so surprised that he just stood there for a precious few seconds, as his companions whirled into action.

Is there a map? How close are the elementals to everyone? Range matters to me as Oz has Point Blank Shot if he is within 30' and has extended range for up to 120 feet but that takes a point of burn unless he gathers power instead of move. So it can get complicated. I will assume that Oz is within 30'. And I felt I had to revise my previous post since it was not included in the turn write-up.

Arriving too late to help with the cat Osmun is quite pleased to see the half orc holding a squirming bag and waves at the successful catchers. "This way." He calls but then spots strange movement in the water.

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

"Hmm, that's not natural." he thinks to himself as the water takes vaguely humanoid shape and attacks one of his new acquaintances. "That won't do. No not at all." he concludes. He sees one of the new people, a human woman, fire some type of magical energy at one of the creatures and he decides to follow suit. He fires a beam of cold at the same target and then moves away from the creature and towards the seemingly unarmored woman. "Stand behind me. he says bravely.

The map is at the bottom of the turn; it's not professional but no map was provided for this encounter so it will have to do.

Zeljka sputtered as she was unexpectedly pushed back by a wall of water. When she realized that she had actually been attacked by a being of water, she had no choice but to drop the cat bag and draw her weapon.

Zeljka was only familiar with the natural world and so was a little unsure as to how to fight these creatures made of water. "What are these things? Is there a specific way to fight them? Anyone else having issues opening the last turn?

It worked fine for me. Just giving Nsizi a chance to act in round 1 before acting for round 2.

If you can't read it, Zeljka unfortunately took another hit and is at critical wounds, but the remaining elemental is at serious wounds so Osbun's blast might be able to finish it off even if the rest of us miss.

Nsizi finally gathered his wits about him and prepared to strike back at the strange water-creature that was attacking them. Since they seemed quite vulnerable to magic, he considered using his electricity , but quickly dismissed it. That seemed like a good way to shock all of them.

Instead, he limped forward and raised his iwisa. Bringing it down on the water-man, he made a huge splash as the creature divided under his iwisa, only to reform and attack back.

@Osbun: you incur penalties for shooting into melee and because the target has partial cover. Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct. This is somewhat offset by his blast being energy based and therefore a touch attack. Osbun will take Precise Shot at level 3 and negate some of that penalty. Had he been human he would already have both feats.

I managed to open the turn on my tablet but was having problems on the computer. I'll let you know if the problem persists next turn.

As Zeljka felt like the water was trying to drown her from the inside, she did everything she could to get it out of her. She blew out hard through her nose and spit out of her mouth. Exhausted and unsure how she was going to continue, she was relieved when Nsizi stepped in and finished off the last creature.

"I agree with our new acquaintance, those were not natural. And I agree with Nsizi, food and rest are in order.". Seeing the cat in the halfing's hand she said, "Thanks for collecting the cat and not allowing him to escape again. My name's Zeljka."

Action 3

Min removed her hat, coat, and gloves once undercover, but the wind had driven the damp straight through her outer layer of clothing and left her dripping anyway. She let down her hair and leaned over to wring the rainwater out of it. When she set eye on Mirya, she leaned over to Zeljka and hissed, "Don't let the shopkeeper see you! You told her you'd stay and keep an eye on her store!"

Padding in her stocking feet and leaving sodden prints behind, she approached the sheriff and spoke in as much privacy as was available. "I'm concerned that this is no ordinary storm, sheriff. When he entered the stone hall, the noise and collective anxiety of dozens of people hit him like a slap. Standing stunned in the humid, steaming room, he dripped in place for a moment as he looked around. His first thought was to go to the sheriff with Min, but when he saw poor Amal in the corner, he knew where his duty lay.

Making his way through the crush of people, he finally squeezed in beside the terrified man. "Kaka Rashid, I am happy to see you here." Looking around, he said, "Too many people, for certain. Maybe we can find a quieter corner."

my plan is to set him up in the kitchen, being helpful in the quietest corner. Is that something I can just write up completely, or are there interactions that need to be negotiated first

It's early evening right now.

I can give you a few hours and start 'my event' at midnight.

Will that work?

Sorry, this a long one. I'm having way too much fun writing this up. The first bit is continued from my last post

Nsizi took Amal by the arm, and led him through the swinging doors into the kitchen. It wasn't much quieter in there, as the entire staff, and some of their family members were working frantically to keep half the town's population fed and watered. Catching the eye of a matronly-looking cook, Nsizi quietly asked her if she needed help. The plump woman looked at Amal and nodded - she had met the man before and understood a little of his "condition".

"Here, love," she said, bustling him over to an empty corner of the table. "Sit yourself here and you can help me out. Ever kneaded dough, have you? No? Never mind, it'll take you no time to catch the trick of it." She passed a lump of bread dough to the man, who tentatively took it. As she showed him how to pound and knead the dough, Nsizi saw his shoulders relax, and a look of concentration start to replace the fear on his face. Pleased, the Bas'o man left them to their work, and went back to the common room.

As his ears re-adjusted to the clamour, Nsizi saw Heri talking animatedly with a group of people at a nearby table. One was a half-elf woman that he vaguely recognized from his time on the Kaava Cutter. Another was a human woman wearing a robe that marked her as a member of Abadar's church. The third was - Akosua. The four women had a few scrolls, books, vials, and other paraphernalia scattered between them. They seemed completely unfazed by the clamour around them.

Nsizi was about to edge past them to join Min with the sheriff, but Akosua noticed him and grabbed his arm. "Nsizi, Heri here has been telling us of a plan to cure your leg. I was not certain at first, but I believe she may be able to do it. Will you allow us to try?"

Nsizi was quite surprised. "Now? What about the storm? Perhaps tomorrow, or the next day, when there is more space..."

"Nonsense," said the human woman, "Storms are excellent times for this type of ritual. Energy in the air, energy to spare. I am Reya, and I am studying at the church under Banker Sifreth. I am not fully a cleric yet, but I have some skill with healing, and I believe I can help. If you will allow it, this is a very good time to try."

Remembering to the stormy night that had started it all, Nsizi was reluctantly forced to agree with them. "Is there space anywhere?"

"We can use my room," said the half-elf in the red gown. "I am Annabella Tullia, priestess of Shelyn. My goddess loves all that is beautiful, and Heri tells me that your scar is not. I have some limited healing powers, but I have other...skills...that will be of use. Shall we begin?"

"Right now?" Nsizi was half dragged along by the women who abruptly stood up and moved towards the stairs that led upstairs to rooms. Glancing around, perhaps a little wildly, Nsizi looked around to see if he could see any of his friends.

If anybody wants to be part of/present for the ritual, please feel free to join in now. The healers won't mind the extra bodies, and the more the merrier. I'm off to bed now, but I'll finish the second part of this in the morning. :)

The priestess must have had some pull with Longroad, for she had a private room. A narrow bed was pushed against one wall, and there was only just enough room for the five of them to stand inside. Nsizi stood a bit nervously by the door, as the women bustled about, moving the bed to the centre of the room, and making preparations.

"Put this on," Annabella thrust a tunic of fine cotton into Nsizi's arms. "I won't have your making my bed soggy." It was true that his neswambi was a sodden mess, but there was nowhere with a lick of privacy. Noticing his hesitation, Akosua smiled and moved to the other side of the room, motioning the others to do the same and turn around. "Tell us when you're done," the Bonuwat healer said.

Nsizi stripped out of his neswambi as quickly as he could, which was no easy task. Finally he pulled the tunic over his head, and kicked the pile of soaked, and rather smelly fabric, to the corner. "Ready," he said.

The women turned around and bustled back into action. Akosua motioned for Nsizi to sit on the bed. Heri moved the washbasin from its small table, and started laying out her potions and herbs on it. Reya sorted through papers and scrolls, murmuring softly to herself.

Annabella pulled out a small clay figure, and smeared some sort of paste on its head. Then she took some small scissors from Heri, and approached Nsizi. "I will need some of your hair," she told him, and leaned forward and clipped a short curl from his head. She then stuck it into the paste, where it stuck.

Another moment or two, and suddenly everybody was ready. They stood in a circle around the bed. Heri held a bowl with a cloudy grey liquid in it. Small herbs floated on the surface, and it resembled washing-up water. Speaking a few words in a language Nsizi didn't recognize, she then took a drink from it, and passed it to Annabella on her right. The half-elf drank and repeated the words, then passed it across the bed to Reya. She did the same, and finally Akosua. She then handed to to Nsizi.

Having participated in similar rituals with the shaman of his tribe, Nsizi did not hesitate to drink the remaining liquid, which was bitter and gritty. Almost immediately his head began to spin, and he gratefully allowed himself to be lain back onto the bed.

Outside the rain pounded on the window, and lightning flashed and thunder crashed. Nsizi felt warm and floaty.
