Knowledge checks of dc 11 or higher may not be made untrained. Since none of us have ranks in a knowledge local that information is out of our reach. I got both the heal checks covered. Anyone want to get that dc 10 religion?
The spear was placed after the man died. It did not kill him. The same seems true of the animal bites. These men were killed by claws like one would expect on something our size. That combined with meat being cut away by knife on the livestock would indicate some sort of monstrous humanoid. I wonder if the weapons were placed to frame something smaller that lives in the area or if the spears maker came by later to help themselves to some meat after the fighting. Of course it's also possible the attackers were a diverse group like us. So many questions...
lol, hehe was the song'o reference in the heal check an oversight? I as a player know what they are. My character does not. Our characters would be aware of the spear being small sizes though. Is the dagger medium or small sized GM?
survival: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21.... Saurek begins looking for tracks that look humanoid. Especially curious I there are any small sized ones.
Trem Kiran |
"Might i suggest looking for trap before we open any of those." Trem points to the doors has he is speaking. "As for healing, I'm afraid I don't have anything that could help."
Sulia Farwander |
Sulia wanders in, looking around the area but having nothing to contribute to the conversation.
"There's... a lot of damage to this place. I can't tell what happened."

Yep. Airhead it seems.

Saurek seeing how effective Sulia's healing was hands Ansado a single good-berry. That'll top off your hit points and count as a full days rations.
Eat that.
Turning back to the scene of the fight Saurek pulls the small dagger from the bucket walks back to the three small dinosaurs and takes there heads off. He then quickly hangs them by their tails on the small spear so that the blood can drain from their bodies. I guess we eat meat tonight.
If no one else has then Saurek will check the pockets of the dead men. Ansado's advice of searching for more clues before making our decisions on what to do later is wise. But in answer to your earlier question Trem, I have little interest in trying to drag the two bodies all the way back to town.
Sau're'!K of The Mulaa Tribe |
Yes, Visrub, Re'!K'th can do that. But I would like to try something first.
Saurek walks up to the barricaded door bangs on it three times and then yells at it. Hey, is anyone in there! We've been sent by Adaela Praet, from Pridon's Hearth.
If there is no answer after a minute Saurek then directs Re'!K'th to open the door.
Re'!k'th the Pachycephalosaurus |
GM Madcaster |
As soon as Saurek yells, an arrow whiz from above and bites into the druid's shoulder 8 damage. The attacker is a small frog-like humanoid wearing leather armor and holding a bow with a nocked arrow. It has green and blue skin with orange hands and feet. "Shiya ekhaya lami! Phumani manje!" Only when the frog-like creature speaks, you realize that it is, in fact, she. She then fires the readied arrow into Saurek's pachycephalosaurus, who bellows from pain as it digs into his side 7 damage.
A13 are parapets.
Your turn.
Saurek, Rekth doesn't break the door, as you said you'll wait for a minute for an answer.

Visruþ runs up beside Sarai to get out of the line of fire and says:
"It's a Grippli; jungle frog folk"
"They usually keep to themselves."
He then shouts in Polyglot to the Grippli archer:
« Uthini? Ufunani? »
« Kutheni ukuzama ukubulala thina? »
"Why try to kill us?"
I used Xhosa again from Google Translate for flavour, etc.
Visruþ hopes Grippli understand Polyglot, a local human tongue.

Full defense... Re'!k'th has AC:23 T:17 till the start of his next turn. This should also give Sulia a +4 soft cover bonus to her ac as well.
GM Madcaster |
Sarari charges into the room, busting the door down. Broken halves of a large table lie askew in the center of this room. Half a dozen four-foot-long spears protrude from one half of the table, and brown bloodstains mar the floor. A basic map of the region covers most of one wall, hanging next to a picture of an austere-looking man.
The grippli gasps as Ansado's arrow leaves a deep cut on her shoulder and yells "Wena kwikhaya lam, ngoko ke khusela!" shooting another arrow into Re'!k'th, that hits leaving a shallow cut on his foot.

Visruþ stays where he is and keeps shouting at the Grippli:
« Siye kurhwebo, masingalwi! »
« Oku akukho ndlela norhwebelwano! »
"This is no way to trade!"
My cunning plan is to try fibbing to get the Grippli to stop shooting.
She has the big advantage in position.
All the while motioning the others to get into the room Sarari opened.
Trem Kiran |
Trem looks at Visruþ. "You are talking to it? Is there any chance we can solve this without killing it? Cause it might know what happended here."
He them look over the corner and make gesture with his hand while reciting an arcane spell.
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a pinch of wool or similar substance)
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target one humanoid creature of 4 HD or less
Duration 1 round
Saving Throw Will negates; Spell Resistance yes
This spell clouds the mind of a humanoid creature with 4 or fewer Hit Dice so that it takes no actions. Humanoids of 5 or more HD are not affected. A dazed subject is not stunned, so attackers get no special advantage against it. After a creature has been dazed by this spell, it is immune to the effects of this spell for 1 minute.
Sarari looks at the next door. For a fraction of a second, she hesitate between awlking over to opened it or bashing it down to save time in case it's locked. Finaly she goes for it and charge the door.
Bash Door: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15I'm guessing the table make it difficult terrain so it's more a move then a charge
Slam Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Trem Kiran |
Trem - Charge is a full-round action. You can't both move and charge. Or did you mean 5-ft. step?
If the broken table prevent a charge toward the next door for Sarari, she will walk over instead. No matter how she gets there, her goal is to bash the door down the fastest way possible. So her action for the round is either. If charge impossible, Walk over and hit the door. If charge possible, charge the door.
Visruþ |
"She thinks we're invaders."
"Grippli like her are good with bows. Obviously."
"But they could not do this kind of damage."
Visruþ explains to Trem.
Then shouts at the Grippli again:
« Ukuba unamaqhinga. Andikumxokisa malunga zorhwebo. »
« Enyanisweni, safika ukuzisa neendaba. »
« Singathetha? Asifuni ukubulala nabani na. »
"Truly, we came to bring supplies and news. Nothing else."
"Can we talk? We do not want to kill anyone."
But that's a good bit of luck!
Still playing or time more than anything else.
Trying to talk her out of fighting, though, if I can.
Sau're'!K of The Mulaa Tribe |
I think this little one just happened upon what it saw as an empty tree and now thinks of it as her own. I think if we're straight forward with her we will be able to prevent further blood shed.
Saurek walks upto Ansado motioning him to lower his weapon. He then turns towards the Gripplie and points at the dead humans in the courtyard as he addresses her.
GM Madcaster |
Sarari opens the door without any trouble. Shelves bedeck the walls of this square room. A solid stone slab sits atop a waist-high counter at the northern edge of the room, covered with spoiled vegetables and rotting hunks of meat. A wooden ladder ascends fifteen feet to a second floor. It appears to be a kitchen.
The grippli seems to calm down a bit and doesn't shoot you for now, but she keeps her bow ready.
"Ndombulala akukho namnye - amacikilishe beze wambulala kubo. Abafileyo akufuneki indlu, ngoko sahlala apha. Yinto entle indawo inkampu," she answers Saurek.
Sau're'!K of The Mulaa Tribe |
sense-motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Saurek tilts his head trying to figure out if the small grippli is telling the truth or just trying to tell him something she thinks he wants to here.
She says they were killed by 'lizards'... and from the claw marks on the bodies... it makes some sense. We need to figure out what we are going to do. Go chasing after the Lizards, head back to Pridon's Hearth and report, continue exploring here, bury the bodies... Lets eat a meal while we decide what to do?
Saurek holds up the small spear with the 3 small dinosaurs hanging from it.
Yizani nidle nathi. Sixelele ukuba uyazi ezi 'amacikilishe' ngoxa isigqibo inyathelo lethu elilandelayo.
Come eat with us. Tell us what you know of these 'Lizards' while we decide what our next action is.
Visruþ |
Visruþ walks slowly out into the courtyard in front of the Grippli.
He holds his rapier in front of him while looking down, as if making an offering.
He slowly places his rapier on the ground and steps back away from it.
He shows his open palms to the Grippli.
« Ndiyakuthemba. »
« Mna Visruþ. »
« Ungubani? »
"I am Visruþ."
"Who are you?"
Sulia Farwander |
Sulia watches the exchange with some confusion, then curiosity. When it seems like violence is being avoided, she shrugs and puts away her mace.
"Um... I dont know what you're saying, but are we going to be friends now? If she got hurt from our scuffle I can heal her, if that will help." she says

Visruþ |
"Sorry, Sulia.
"She came here after the massacre.
"She is afraid of us.
"We had no time for formalities.
"I will tell her your offer."
Addressing the Grippli again, he slowly motions toward Sulia:
« umhlobo wethu ufuna ndiyipholise imivumbo yakho. »
diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
This is ironic!
A tiefling with no Diplomacy skill defusing things by talking nice.
Trem Kiran |
Trem look at their assailant and then at Visruþ and Saurek in turn. He load his crossbow but make sure to keep it aim toward the ground.
"So, no more fighting? We are all good? Is it alone here or do we expect other surprise?"
Sarari walks back to stand next to Trem. She look wary of the grippli but doesn't do any aggressive act.
Trem could have done the diplomacy if he had understood what she was saying. Maybe a investment in Linguistics to learn it wouldn't be a bad idea for him.
GM Madcaster |
The grippli reflects for minute, then nods to herself. "Omhle. Linda khona."
She disappears in the northwestern tower and walks out of the room with the map and portrait. She does not seem to fully trust you, but lets to heal her wounds.
"Igama lam Zooif. Mna elubhacweni kwisizwe bam, ngoko ke ukuhamba kunye loboya kurhwebo ezinye izinto. Yiloo nto ndeza apha. Kodwa xa befika amacilikishe behamba, zithwele imizimba encinci nabo. Ndalinda wangena," she pauses and nods to the dead. "Akufani kufuneka kule ndawo kwakhona."
Actually, your diplomacy rolls were quite bad. :) I just decided the outcome by eye, as our GM does in a Skype game I'm playing. Good enough arguments/attitude and the diplomacy roll won't be needed.
Also, sorry Trem, I forgot about your Daze spell.
Sulia Farwander |
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Sulia's hand glows with positive energy, and she gently pats the frog on the head. "Ooh! Your skin is so smooth!" she observes with a happy grin. "What language is she speaking?"
Visruþ |
"Her name is Zooif."
"She speaks Polyglot."
"A useful trade language here."
Visruþ then addresses Zooif:
« Mna ungumfiki kakhulu. »
« Abo namacikilishe zivela phi? »
"Where did those lizards come from?"
@ GM Madcaster: true enough about the Diplomacy rolls.
Then again, tieflings are usually as charismatic as a squeaky door hinge.
And those are the outgoing ones! :D
Sulia Farwander |
Gimme a level to pick up polyglot (if you'll teach me) and I'll be glad to help with the diplomacy! :)
"Zooif?" Sulia pronounces, sitting down to be on the same level as the grippli. "I'm Sulia! Pleased to meet you!" She holds out a hand in greeting, giving the frog a genuine smile. "Anything you saw of what happened here would be really nice."

As "Zooif? makes her way down to the group Saurek unceremoniously finds a likely place to sit, pulls out the small sized knife he had grabbed from the bucket, and begins to expertly clean the 3 small dinosaurs the group has killed.
AS he tends to this minor chore he will gladly serve as interpreter for Zooif and anyone else in the party who would like to talk to her.
Trem Kiran |
"Are we still planning to go through we the inspection of the place. Or would that be rude to the new owner?
Trem points at the last two doors that weren't open before the fight started with the grippli.
"I agree with you." Trem look back at Sulia has he walk back in the center of the place. "I think we should all try to learn the local dialect, if not fully, at least some words that could help in future encounters."

Zooif ... thina esitsha kule ndawo. yintoni ezisixelela namacikilishe ...?
Saurek finishes cleaning the dinosaurs and impales each one on one of his javelins. He drives these into the ground while setting to work at starting a fire.
ezi zixhobo safumana yeyakho? na ukuba uzenze?
As the fire starts burning Saurek grabs six sticks and wittles them down so that each one has a crook in it. He plants these sticks in the ground with the crooks pointing straight in the air.
Kutheni bakhutshelwa ngaphandle ilali yakho?
As the fire settles a bit Saurek takes the three javelins and sets each between the crook of two sticks so that the lizards can roast over the fire.
Ngaba ufuna wayebuyela kwilali zethu kuthengisa furs yakho apho?
are these weapons we found yours? did you make them?
Why were you cast out of your village?
Would you want to travel back to our village and sell your furs there?
In an effort to speed things along a bit just spit out all these questions at once. No need to spend two weeks on one conversation right?
GM Madcaster |
"Ndafika apha malunga neveki eyadlulayo," Zooif answers Visruþ's question.
She moves closer to the fire, as she answers Saurek.
"Bexhobe kunye eluhlaza. Ndiyazi ke ukuba abadli kuza kude ezantsi. Ndiphatha kwaneentonga zam kunye nam. Ezi ngezikhali azikho yeyam."
She eyes the weapons indifferently. "Ndabahlalisa ukufa zizibonkolo zethu."
"Ukuba baya kuthenga kubo, ngoko ewe," she shows some interest. "Ke ezimbalwa iimfele civet."
"I carry my weapons with me. These spears are not mine."
"I caused the death of our tadpoles."
"If they will buy them, then yes. I have a few civet pelts."
Trem Kiran |
Trem wait a bit to see if he's going to have the translation of the rest of the conversation. But after a while he loose interest. I'm sure if they uncover important information, they will share it.
He walks over to the only door they haven't tried yet. He tries to inspect it to see if there is anything outside of the ordinary.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Seeing nothing, he gently open it to see what lies inside.
