Erik looks around, thinking for a moment.

"I'm not particularly religious....but it seems plausible."

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

Snaggletooth looks at Leo, waiting for his answer.

"I have a bad feeling about this," Perigia says as Snaggletooth heads toward the water. "Any ideas Leo?"

"Well if there was enough ritual casters I would have asked about floating disc or whatever its called cast so we could get everyone across by having two cast it with one caster standing on the others disc so we can eventually move everyone across without touching that darn thing, but failing that... nope got nothing do you know anything about observatories specifically how you turn those things so we can step on them without being sliced to ribbons?" he replies.

Turning to Snaggletooth.
"Well as long as it isn't another trap it wouldn't hurt to take a look, well not as much as that would," he points to the scythe platforms.

"Hold on do we need to get upstairs or across the other side?" he then turns and asks.

Do I need to make a Religion check for Snaggletooth's question or Thievery or Perception to figure a way to use the scythes as platforms and how to use them to get across or is that Dungeoneering?

By the way i'm moving home in a couple of weeks so i might not be able to post for a couple of weeks whilst I try to get back online, will try to let you know closer to the time but this is in case i don't get the chance (Around the 19th of october currently)

Religion check please Leo, to answer Snaggletooth's question.

You can easily see that turning the mechanism on the platforms will turn the scythes for form a bridge.

Rev DM wrote:

"To be honest I haven't a clue," Leo sighs sadly.

Got a total of 10 for the Religion check: 1d20+8 just in case you want to know how bad that roll was!

][ooc wrote:

"But how about we turn this?" he asks pointing to the turning mechanism.

Now exactly where is the turning mechanism?

Despite his fears, Leo's long experience of religious sites and workings helps confirm Snaggletooth's suspicions. Walking through the pool is almost certainly a necessary preliminary to entering the more sacred areas of the complex. The paladin guesses the initiates are expected to symbolically cleanse themselves of the impurities of the world.

DC10 for anyone with religion as a trained skill.

Mechanism is the small grey circle on the platform. You are on the right platform and need to cross to the left one.

Good luck with the move. Let me know when you're heading offline so I can run Leo for you. It would help as well if you could send me his character sheet (do you have Character Builder?) at

I keep it up to date on my avatar for this game thread, should be all up to date and i hope to be able to be able to give better warning but its dependent on my internet provider not switching me off before I know when they do

That's fine then. I'll be able to keep a running tab on hp/surges and power uses then.

(Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc)

"I still don't like the idea of anointing myself with anything in this place. I don't suppose we have any choice."

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

Snaggletooth can hardly control his glee. "I knew it! I hate to go back to room with hanged ones, but we have to." He then go back to the pool room and before he takes his first step towards the pool, he says the password again.

"The heart bleeds and the Dreamer will awake." he waits for the things to move out of the way and follows the same procedure to get to the pool, examines it, dips his finger into the pool and tastes the water.

if he doesn't notice anything wrong. he will emmerse himself into the pool, then follow the same password, wait, move procedure to get out of the room.

Afterwards, he presents himself to his companions. "That not bad as I thought. Now it your turn."

Snaggletooth re-appears, damp but otherwise unchanged.

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

While the others go for a soak, Snaggletooth goes over to the mechanism and turns the gear to move the scythes into position. He then takes out his rope and ties one end to his waist and waits for the others.

Are you all following Snaggletooth's example?

(Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc)

Erik will reluctantly follow suit.

Rev DM wrote:

Leo follows suit well after Erik anyway.

Caine will also do so. He has come to trust Snaggletooth's instincts.

Perigia and Brujo?

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

are the blades in position yet? or is there something else to this?

The blades now lie in such a way that you may pass over the pit one at a time. Good balance is required, but as long as nothing interferes with you, there is no reason why you should not pass to the opposite platform in perfect safety.

In game terms, you need to make a DC12 Athletics or Acrobatics check to cross. Using a rope to help will reduce that to a DC10. Crawling is even lower (DC7, crawling with rope DC5). Slipping will send you into the pit if you fail to make a save, but clutching at the blades to stop yourself will deal 1d10 damage. You have no idea how deep the pit is without an additional light source.

(Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7)

As water and fire don't mix, Perigia will attempt the check without dunking herself. Acrobatics 1d20+4=17

Rev would it be possible to use Armathor’s Step or Fey Step to pass over the pit?

Brujo wrote:

Only if you can teleport 11 squares with it.

Perigia steps lightly over the blades and arrives at the other side of the pit without difficulty.

This is back on the previous page, so as a reminder, MAP. Note that I have not re-drawn the blades so that they point across the pit, but one set is now lying at right angles and forms a bridge.

Dampened characters:
Snaggletooth
Caine
Erik
Leo

Perigia does not have wet feet. Jury still out on Brujo.

Atletics 1d20+11=26

(Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc)

Erik leaps about with the greatest of ease despite his heavy armor. He steps as smoothly as a legato composition, a note on his lips and a song in his heart.

1d20+9=27 Athletics

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

Perigia if something attacks us because you don't want to get wet, I will be so angry at you!!!! :<

Snaggletooth nimbly crosses the blades to the other side.

acrobatics=11+13=24

Rolled for Caine

Athletically over the scythes (1d20+9=29)

Brujo, Snaggletooth, Erik and Caine all negotiate the pit with ease to join Perigia. Only Leo remains.

Another door confronts you and alongside it another set of paneled sarcophagi.

Just a couple of reminders - but please correct me if any of these are wrong:
Caine has 0 surges left
Perigia has dry feet and only a few more minutes of her tiefling disguise. She is wearing the Dreamstone amulet.
Snaggletooth is wielding the Dreamstone blade and wearing the regalia cloak.
Brujo possibly also has dry feet.

Athletics check Roll 1d20+11:14+11 for Total of 25

Leo heads after the others.

All the companions effortlessly negotiate the scythes.

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

Snaggletooth walks up to the door and listens. perception=24

Snaggletooth

Spoiler:

You hear a grinding noise, as though something large and heavy is being moved around.

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

"Sneak or Surprise? Something big and heavy is being moved around. This is where funny stable guy said to go."

what'll it be folks? I am for rushing in and hopefully getting a surprise round, but I'll go with whatever you guys think.

(Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7)

"Let's hit them hard and fast," Perigia says. "If we can catch them by surprise maybe they won't be able to summon help."

If anyone objects to Snaggletooth and Perigia's plan, now is the time to say. If I don't hear in your next post, I'm going with that.

"What dailies have you got left?" Leo asks.

"I have one named Sacred Circle that improves your most basic defence pretty much normal melee and ranged attacks," Leo adds.

Sacred Circle close burst of 3 grants allies in range a +1 bonsu to their AC for the rest of the encounter

"Caine have you still got that banner Mirth gave you?" Leo asks the Commander.

"We might need everything we have left to pull this off," Leo explains quickly and quietly.

Just found out the last day I'll be able to post will be the 9th and with luck I should be back online by around the 25th or the 30th depending on no further problems. Hopefully I'll find other means to post but this is so you know well in time

Thank you for the advance warning.

OK. Let's go with the Snaggletooth plan.

MAP

The door swings open at Snaggletooth's touch revealing a circular chamber with no obvious exit.

A curious and macabre sight greets you. Five cloaked figures surround the room, one of them operating a winch system on a huge stone eyeball. The eyeball is being lifted to reveal a chute leading down into darkness. The dark green area on the map, beneath the eyeball.

As you enter, the two on the far side of the room lift their heads and you see that their eyes glow with a horribly familiar blue fire. They stare at Perigia and Snaggletooth and look at each other, drawing the attention of the rest of the group to the newcomers. It takes only a second for them to react to the sight of the Dreamstone amulet at Perigia's slender throat and Snaggletooth's small form swathed in the magical cloak.

"The sacred regalia! You are not blessed and have no right to such treasures. You defile this place with your insolence."

"Nor have they all bathed. See! Dry feet. These are defilers!"

Brujo recognises them as spellscarred.

Where are you all and what are you doing? Please give me positions, actions and init. You get a surprise round as these folks are horrified at your desecration. Please note that the eyeball is swinging freely above the chute.

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

"You like my new cloak?" Snaggletooth asks as he sprints into action. "It look better on me than dumb old statue." He moves up to the closest figure as he draws his new sword and stabs deeply into the figure's side.

start at K17, initative=21, surprise action=deft strike (move to L16, +11 vs Will, 26, damage= d6+5+2d8+3=6+5+14+3= 28hp damage!!)

Rev

Spoiler:
do you need me to tell you what he is thinking as he strikes so as to give the sword the needed words? because if you do, he thinks "You and your fellow vermin need to die! Must finish this one fast! Keep moving forward!"

Initiative 1d20+4=24; K18

"Keh, dry huh? Well then I'll make sure I make them wet with you're blood"

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

Brujo wrote:

Initiative 1d20+4=24; K18

"Keh, dry huh? Well then I'll make sure I make them wet with you're blood"

What's your surprise round action, Brujo?

(Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc)

1d20+2=5 Initiative
Start me at I19.

Erik springs into quick action, whispering words that appear in magical scrawl along his blade. He then points the sword F4's direction and unleashes the spell.

"You're about to have a very bad day."

But of course, Erik's unlucky streak continues as the words slide harmlessly past the hooded figure.

Standard Action: w00t, a natural 1 with Cutting Words.

Snaggletooth's appearance and taunts cover his swift movement as the kobold darts into the room and stabs deep into F5. The Foulspawn can only gawp helplessly.

Almost as he moves, Caine's strides past him, looking at the room and the occupants.

MAP

Foulspawn - surprise round, no action
Brujo - needs to roll a d20. On even he is dazed (se)
Snaggletooth - acted
Caine - acted
Erik - acted

Need init rolls and surprise round actions from Leo and Perigia. Need a roll from Brujo to see if he's dazed or not (Spellplague effect).

Save vs Daze 1d20=17, odd so no daze

Good. You can take a surprise round action then.

"KEHEHEHE", his sword blazing with energy. A crazied, laughing Brujo assults the spawn with a wave of blue flame

Changing Ray on F1 1d20+9=25 vs Will; Damage 1d8+6=10 force and cold, and the F1 is dazed until the end of my next turn. White Lotus Evasion let's me shift to L17

Blue flames streaks across the chamber and slams into F1. The foulspawn stares at Brujo.

"Blessed and yet unwilling," it hisses.

Erik's songblade rings pure but futile in the blue light, as the words on the blade twist and seek a way to invade these alien minds.

MAP

Foulspawn - surprise round, no action
Brujo - acted
Snaggletooth - acted
Caine - acted
Erik - acted

Need init rolls and surprise round actions from Leo and Perigia.

(Male Kobold Rogue 6)

out of curiosity, what exactly are these guys' initative? They beat a 24?

They get +8 and they rolled 19. Knowing my luck, that will be the one and only time they roll in double figures through the whole encounter.

(Female Genasi Firesoul Wizard 7)

Init 1d20+5=25 Perigia will take H17. She casts Magic Missile at F4. 1d20+8, 2d4+5=[19, 8], [2, 3, 5] 27 vs ref to hit, 10 force damage.

Perigia strides into the room and unleashes a magic missile, striking F4 full in the chest. The foulspawn gulps hard and glares at the mage.

MAP

Perigia - acted
Foulspawn - surprise round, no action
Brujo - acted
Snaggletooth - acted
Caine - acted
Erik - acted

Need init roll and surprise round action from Leo.

Initiative: 1d20+4: 4+4+2 for a total of 10 thanks to Commander Caine, will move to J-17 and use Sacred Circle granting all allies within and including Leo a +1 power bonus to their AC until the end of the encounter. May as well use it whilst I can!

Leo steps into the chamber.
"Please forgive our manners, it has been a rather difficult day and I do believe you have something that really doesn't belong to you. Kindly return it before things get far worse, for you," Leo addresses the robed figures.
"Oh Kelemvor hear my plea, I call upon your aid to grant I and my allies the benefits of your sacred circle!" Leo openly calls out as he wields his sword in a quick circle that glows before expanding to surround an area around him before shrinking once more.

Close Burst 3: +1 to AC to himself and allies within that radius namely everyone as far as I can see
