Apologies on my tardiness had a rough couple of days and wasn't able to post yesterday, have spent this evening catching up so hope to forestall any further delays on my part at least until I know exactly when I'm moving
Sorry to hear you're having a rough time and total sympathy with the house moving. That's traumatic enough in its own right. Don't worry about games, just post when you can.

Spoiler:
long story short, my interest in that game is waning greatly. I thought epic level play would be fun, but it is not. either we are too powerful or the baddies are. i always enjoy your DMing but I hate epic level play. but I started this thing, I guess I will finish it. after all, we already lost one. (what happened to Old chorro?) However, if you can find a replacement for me, I will gladly step aside for them.
I sensed that might be the case. If you'd rather pull out, I'll see if I can find a replacement or we can carry on as we are. But don't force yourself into playing something that isn't fun for you.
The fault, I'm sure, is mine, as I've never DMed anything at epic level and the balance seems rather fine. Old Chorro doesn't have time and I've no real idea what happened to Nassareth - been AWOL at least three weeks now. Get yourself to the end of this combat and you can be quietly left behind.
Folks, I can't access my photobucket account, so the maps will be wrong until further notice. Sorry about that. The computer here is even more archaic and temperamental than mine.
Snaggletooth slides a confident dagger into L7's ribs and eliminates the lackey in one easy movement. Thinking ahead, he moves to devastate anyone foolish enough to step through the cave mouth.
Mirth - 7 temp hp from Leo (3 temp hp from Erik, but they don't stack).

I'll post now to avoid problems later, Leo will employ a holy strike on S#1 so thats 1d20+11: 18+11 for a total of 29 to hit or 31 (sorry got my figures mixed up there!) if Erik is still flanking S#1 after its turn and does 1d8+7 radiant damage in this case 2+7 for 9pts of radiant damage to S#1 even if its action is to shift away twice leo will pursue but assume he'll just attack instead unless he goes down between now and Leo's next turn Leo will stay on him (I can see Mirth and Perigia tagging him along with Erik unless Caine, Brujo and Snaggletooth need a hand)
"I do hope I'm not spoiling your fun here, I have to admit I really need to work on my horse riding but you do seem to take to this quite naturally you know," Leo comments to Erik almost absentmindedly as he focuses on felling the shadowblade they're fighting.
"Still what exactly are those fireballing heretics by the way?" Leo asks.
"Are they some kind of warlock or are they just native to Wodewood?" he adds almost sighing as his sword glimmering silver slashes at the shadowblade.
"Awfully sorry there, we'll be finishing with you shortly try and put up a fight of course you could surrender but I get the feeling that isn't an option you'd consider..." Leo asks the shadowblade.

Erik laughs, glad to have someone else to enjoy banter with.
"This is not my first time fighting beside other trained warriors," Erik says with a grin. "And what are bards if not adaptable. Such skills are necessary when defending the integrity of the City of Splendors."
Rev: Can I get a skill check to help Leo with his question about the heretics? Minor action on my turn perhaps?
"City of ....Splen-ders" Snaggletooth says out loud. "What's that, Pretty Man? That where you come from? What it like there?" He, too, has grown bored of the battle, now that the party is winning.
"Thee shouldst duck ..." Mirth sends a fiery blast which obliterates L8 and L9 and mildy singes Snaggletooth. 8hp damage, which eats up the temp hp. Seemed worth doing to get rid of the dross ...
Out-numbered and out-manouvered though he is, S1 continues to put up a good fight. He doesn't deign to move, but slices expertly at Leo.

Minor point but since Leo got critical hit by that shadowblade his longsword's retribution ability does +2d6 damage to that foe when he hits him after such a critical and does an extra 2pts of damage! By the way does that retribution ability apply through out the encounter of just the turn after Leo was hit by that critical?

Not a minor point at all and thank you for raising it. I'm not sure about the retribution ability and will check. Gut instinct suggests it applies only for the turn after the hit in question, but I may well be wrong.
EDIT - Compendium says the following:-
"Whenever an enemy scores a critical hit against you, your next attack with this weapon against that enemy deals +1d6 damage per plus of this weapon. The effect ends at the end of your next turn."
This turn only then, but good enough. Roll yourself some extra damage Leo :D

Spoiler:
Got a replacement for you in "Winter". You can retire at will. I'll run you to the end of the combat and find a good exit for you. Unless you would like to do something more spectacular yourself?
"Surrender is no option for us. We shed our blood for the greater glory of the Dreamer. Our lives are insignificant."
"I agree!" Snaggletooth calls out to the shadowblade. "Your lives not worth anything, that why you so eager to die. Me, I got lots of things to do. So I fight harder than you, because I want life."
REV
Spoiler:
do as you see best. I got nothing left to do with gilliam. I don't even like him. Have him wuss out and run away scared. "I didn't know it was going to be l-l-like t-his." Or whatever you want. thanks for understanding and not holding it against me.
"You fight harder to live in this squalor you call life? You see nothing. We see beyond the stars, into worlds beyond anything you can comprehend. We see through blue fire."
"Squalor! You can life squalor? You never live with kobolds then! kobold caves, that squalor! Nobody have enough food or clothes, everybody steal from each other! Life is good now!" He calms a bit. "You still not fight with all heart because in heart you want death. Death is good thing for you. Death is bad, I think, I almost die twice, I not want do again."
We've all got into games we thought would work for us and haven't for one reason for another. Don't fret about it. I'll think of some suitably good ending for him. Snaggletooth is 100% fun though. That's one character changed out of all recognition. From kobold cannon-fodder to hero - a great story.
"If death is the path to the Dreamer then I will follow it gladly. You speak of the squalor of a live unlived. You know nothing."
The shadowblade's eyes start to glow a familiar, sinister blue.
"Caine, you want to help kill Robed One? Pretty Man and Leo can kill Shadow One by themselves. No more archers come from cave. They all dead, I guess. I do more damage if you help." Snaggletooth asks his companion.
Rev
Spoiler:
I thought so, too. That's why I kept Snaggletooth instead of making my "Hawkeye-inspired" archer that I was going to. (cocky, alpha male, thinks he's a ladies man, that's Hawkeye from the Avengers) I think I made the right choice. I'll do an archer next time.
"What so great about Dreamer, Shadow One? He give you lots of gold or females? Or does he promise to give you something only after you die? Kobold Shamans promise that. They say, 'Kill for kobold god and do what he tell shaman to tell you to do and when you die, you get riches and power and happiness.' I not listen to them. They just use you for own end and not give anything in return. Bad deal, I think."

Erik then almost absently slashes at the tiefling's back, his blade releasing notes of power to inspire those who attack the shadowblade.

are we blind before we attack? in other words are we taking a -5 to hit him or is it after we OA him, then we are blind? just trying to clarify. my OA is 28 and 6 hp damage. (or 23 and 6 hp damage)
Erik Annadar(Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc)
We've been wailing on this guy forever, isn't he even bloodied yet?! Also, assuming Leo still has him marked, he would have taken damage from the mark again. :)
"We can't let him get back inside the cave!" shouts Erik, taking a swipe with his songblade as the tiefling escapes, despite the consequences.
Opportunity Action: Basic Melee vs. S1; 20 vs. AC for 8 damage and on a hit, I gain 3 temporary hit points from my previous War Song Strike.
In case it was missed in the earlier message the retribution ability rolled a double 1 for 2 extra pts of damage and if he struck Erik then the divine challenge Leo has up effects him however Leo won't take the OA at this point as he's more concerned with whom the shadowblade is calling to
Instead of taking advantage of his fleeing foe Leo paying attention to his words shifts to try and see who or what the shadowblade is calling.
"Anyone know what he's trying to call forth?" he asks the others.
Yes - apologies. Less than clear. You're blinded after the OAs. Both of which hit him, along with Leo's collateral.
Snaggletooth and Erik's blades lash out and divine retribution hits as Leo's challenge is ignored. Barely alive, the shadowblade remains poised and oddly triumphant at the mouth of the cave.
And may I say, on behalf of monsters everywhere, that shadowblade 1 has done me proud.

Shadowblade 1 - bloodied. Very, very bloodied ...
Perigia runs up just behind Mirth (M9). "Freeze," she shouts as she blasts the shadowblade with Chill Strike.1d20+8, 2d8+6=[18, 8], [7, 3, 6] 26 to hit, 16 cold damage and he is dazed until the end of Perigia's next turn.
Perigia's attack is too much for the shadowblade. Blood turns to ice and he drops to the ground, leaving the hill filled with nothing but bodies and an eerie silence.
Out of combat. 537XP each taking you to 8580 total. Please use any healing surges and whatnot and decide what you want to do next.

Everyone remember to add +4 to every surge you spend during the short rest while Erik plays.
Erik spends 1 surge to get to full HP. Now at 7/10 healing surges.
Erik is obviously relieved when his sight returns but rallies quickly.
"Not too terrible thus far. How is everyone doing?"
Erik will take his flute out and play softly while moving around the battlefield and checking the bodies of fallen enemies.
Erik's search produces nothing in the way of useful equipment, but he notices that the ambush party all sport medallions bearing a stylised flaming eye. Snaggletooth will recognise them as companions to the ones he saw earlier on warriors you met on the road.
"Leo, pay attention!!" Snaggletooth dresses his large companion down. "You could have finished Shadow One without him warning friends!!!" Snaggletooth can only turn and watch his enemy run up to the cave and yell in. He slaps his forehead and says, "Looks like fight not over yet."
then after Perigia finishes him off
"Good job, Fire Lady!"
notices Erik examining the medallions
"Other attackers have those necklaces. You think it means something?"
