I can create water! Makes a spit bubble. Okay, admittadly, this may take a while, and you may smell like spittle, buuuut. makes another spit bubble. You wake up with a terrible headache. Last night was pretty crazy, you have to admit, but completely worth it. Yeah it started out kind of rough – obviously you went to the wrong tavern. What a bunch of low-class ruffians! Still, it took a while, but you found someone who knew your father! Sailed with him, in fact! What a great guy! The stories he told were amazing! Hard to believe you never noticed your dad had an eyepatch and a pegleg. Or a daughter. But the drink he brought you was incredible! Real pirate grog! Really strong, though. Knocked you right out. Come to think of it, where are you now? This definitely isn’t the tavern….

Aldous:
You wake up with a terrible headache. Still, that’s a small price to pay for the incredible time you had last night. Stories, singing, making new friends! And one friend in particular… You don’t remember what happened after you helped her to her room: you both were pretty wasted. Still, she’s lying beside you now, so it must have been good. Although the bed’s awfully hard – wait – these are floorboards! Kinky! Actually, come to think of it, this doesn’t look like her bedroom…or your bedroom…or a bedroom…more like a cargo hold… What the hell happened?!?

Cuddles:
You wake up with a terrible headache. That’s strange – you didn’t drink any more than your regular 6 buckets of alcohol. Never given you a hangover before… Still, last night was a lot of fun. So many people to hug! In fact, some of them are here with you! This is so awesome! Wait… what is this place? It’s just a big empty room. And why is the room swaying slightly back and forth. And why does the air smell so salty? Something’s not right….

Enya:
You wake up with a terrible headache. Last night was so much fun! Singing, drinking, singing, otter fun, singing, making new friends, singing… Best. Night. Ever!!! But this is seriously the worst hangover you’ve ever had. And you’re most definitely NOT in your room at the tavern. In fact, you’re not even in a bedroom – it’s more like a cargo hold or something. And where’s Mica? Oh, shit! Where’s Mica???

River:
You wake up with a terrible headache. Yeah, having that drink was a bit of a mistake… Better stick with water from now on. Still, you did have a great time last night. Who would have thought you’d meet someone else with an otter friend? And they hit it off so well! And – Hey! – your new singer friend’s here too! Wherever “here” is, anyway… Yeah… Where is “here”? But, more importantly, where’s Arirai? Oh, sweet Irori, where’s Arirai???

Tao Sheng:
You wake up with a terrible headache. Last night was nothing like you’ve ever experienced. Beautiful singing, pleasant company, the sweet air of freedom, and wonderful food. Oh, heavens, the food! Such delicacies! So nice of that lady to buy them for you. It must have been very expensive. It was probably too rich for your humble stomach, though, since you passed out shortly after finishing your meal. Wait a minute…where are you now…this looks an awful lot like something from your past… A cargo hold? What’s going on?

As your eyes adjust to the dim light, you realize that you’re not alone. There are six of you in total – all people from the Formidably Maid tavern last night. They all seem to be in the same condition as you – slightly the worse for wear and just waking up. You also realize that – except for your spell component pouch – your gear’s gone. That includes armor. What the hell happened? You each have time for one post, then things start happening….

As I wake I am glad to see that I am the first, as my skin has a blue colour to it, I quickly concentrate and watch the blue fade into a soft Elven flesh colour. I then look around the ... room? Seeing the others I am relieved that I am not alone, I look to my shoulders and breath in sharply as I realise that he's gone, I spin my head around left and right frantically trying to find him. When I can't see him I get a little upset and take another look around the room, this time being more careful to see everything.

I notice that everything has been taken from me, not that it was much, that I am not too worried about, I whisper out quietly, "Arirai ... Arirai, where are you? Don't leave me now my friend." I start struggling to breath a bit.

Y.B.D:
As I look around for Arirai and call his name I hear a very familiar voice, "I'm here, don't worry. Just remain calm and breath."

I nod and take a long, deep breath and then run my tongue across the roof of my mouth and over my dry lips to moisten them, "Okay my friend ... Why can I taste Nutmeg? I didn't eat any last night ... unless ... someone drugged us all?! Do you know who it is my friend?"

Y.B.D:
"No, I don't know who. But they will reveal themselves if you're patient and remain calm."

]Would that include my Furs? They are my clothing, otherwise I would be naked. Also, I can't hear Arirai, nor can I talk to him ... however the voice I hear in my head I believe is Arirai, when in actual fact it is my own voice. Another part of me that is trying to protect me. I have been watching The Batman animated series and just had inspiration from Scarface and the Puppet Master ... somehow they have weedled their way into River now. Is that okay?

Tao's eyes begin to fill with tears as rage fills his whole being. Four days. It has only been Four days and I am back in chains! He takes a quick look around frantic to find a tool he can use to break the chains.

Tao takes a look around and takes a quick account of the orientation before checking if the others are okay, or at the very least breathing. He first moves to the most familiar face (River) and checks on her.

Sitting up, Al looks from person to person. Looking to Tao Sheng,who was already moving, he remember him most clearly other than Enya.

Whispering, "Did I hear you say you had been a slave on a ship? This feel familiar, because I don't like the looks of it."

Smacking his lips, he looks about, wishing there was a bucket or a container or something for him to pour water into.

Al thinks that is all too familiar, since he had heard many people who were taken advantage of by misbegotten souls were often drugged in just such a way. Just because you enjoy things, doesn't mean you don't believe in modesty where modesty is due, as he does this, he makes a point to look at each of them, to see if there are any wounds that need tending.

Cuddles awakes to a pounding head and a dry throat. He moans a great deep moan and flops over, to fall straight onto the floor. Why is the floor wood? For that matter, why is it moving? He mentally counts the number of barrels he had last night, looses track twice, skips three once, and decides it wasn't enough for a hangover. The floor really was moving. He lifts his head slowly. He licks his lips and tries to get some spit going.
What's that taste? Nutmeg? Poison! He's had a few run-ins with the sleeping poison. Usually the would-be poisoners didn't use enough and had gotten a good, hostile hug for their trouble. These ones had gotten it right, finally.
He feels around his person. Nothing. Not that he had much. He quickly checks his forearms. A lump rises in his throat, threatening to choke him. Finally he finds the scarf he keeps wrapped under the sleeve of his left arm and breathes a sigh of relief. It's still there. They didn't take it.
He finally looks around. Enough to realize he's not alone. Several humans and an elf are with him in the moving room. What is going on?


Enya Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Enya's slow to wake up. She drank so much last night, that she doesn't even taste the nutmeg. Besides, she has bigger concerns. Where's Mica?!? Just as she begins to flip out, she's interrupted by the sound of heavy bootsteps approaching. A moment later, your room’s top hatch is thrown open. Your eyes burn as a lantern is thrust down, and you hear the crack of a whip. ”Still abed with the sun over the yardam? On your feet, ye filthy swabs! Get up on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan flays your flesh into sausage skins and has Fishguts fry ye up for breakfast!”

As your eyes adjust to the light, you see the whip wielder: a tall, dark-haired, rough-looking man. He sports a cruel smile as he cracks the whip in your direction and motions toward the ladder. He looks impatient and a little angry.

Intelligence DC 10:
You’re positive you’ve seen him before. Pretty recently, in fact. Wait – wasn’t he at the bar last night?

Over the man’s shoulder, you see a half-dozen other thuglike characters fingering saps.

A bestial rumble starts in Cuddles's chest. He was at the tavern, filthy poisoner! He flexes his hands and looks like he's about to spring before he notices the stick-man's company. He pauses for a moment to count. It only takes him two tries this time (Forget three all time. Need remember three) and he decides that the odds are a little too stacked, even for him.

His hopes were then completely dashed as he heard the crack of the whip. At this point, his whole body slacked and his head bowed as he took on the subdued posture he held for most of his life. He took a moment to look up at his new masters and...

I... I know him... The bar! Was he watching me, Us, the whole time?!

His face burned and his whole being begged to charge and tear this man's heart out. The only thing that stopped him was the big half-orc's hesitation caught out of the corner of Tao's eye. He looked around once more, this time carefully.

The sound of your teeth can almost be heard by the room as he takes count. A sigh of defeat then whispers through his teeth as he retakes his submissive posture, although scowl on his face relays a different message.

Alain pauses hopefully, "Anyway, I didn't sign on with this ship. If you could take me to the captain I'm sure it can all be straitened out."

Shaking his head, he feels very uncomfortable with the entire situation. Looking to Cuddles, he whispers softly.

He brushes himself off, his chest bared, tattoos run up and down his arms, a chain wraps around his left arm, moving over his chest, where it is locked up. The right arm is covered with thorns, a budding rose opens on his shoulder, a wasp hovering above it like a bee.

Cuddles hears soft words floating into his ear. He looks to the human with the pictures on his chest. He's not sure what the poisoner was getting or why it was coming, but he understands that the human agrees that attacking is a bad idea.

Tao lowers his scowl making sure not to provoke his captors any further. In his experience, when one steps out of line, it was common place that all got punished. Obediently and non-threateningly, Tao begins to move forward toward the ladder attempting to make eye contact with the others that they should follow suite.

As I lay there mumbling to myself and seeming to have half of a conversation, Tao shuffles over and checks me over. "Never before have I felt so ... so vulnerable." As he is looking me over I am looking into his eyes, tears forming, "...Why were we drugged, what do they intend to do with us?"

Once Tao feels that I am not in any danger of injury he goes over and checks the other passengers, when the man who was flirting with the other Otter woman comes over and places his shirt around my shoulders as I sit up. He makes me jump to start with but once he has placed his shirt there he then head back to check on the others also. I pull the shirt over my chest and together at the middle, then slowly start to do it up.

That's when I hear them, the footsteps that sound like cannon blasts and then the eye scorching light burns into the room, I use one hand to cover my eyes from the brightness. Once my eyes have finally adjusted to the new light I lower my hand to see who is shouting at us and calling us filthy swabs. The cracking of the whip has not effect on me, I have heard worse and just think the noise is annoying.

Intelligence : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 (Damn, what a waste of a natural 20!)

I look at him again, "You ... were at the Maid last night, how and when did you drug us? I didn't have any of your food or drink, all I had was th ..." I stop talking and a confused look plays across my face, "... Who is Captain Harrigan and why are we on a boat?"

Unfortunately as I haven't got Arirai with me at the moment, I can't commune with him to learn my spells. So the only spell I can cast right now is Read Magic as I don't have to commune for that one.

Boat? Of course! Cuddles hits himself on the forehead (a blow that would level a normal person). He could see it now. The wood, the salt, the motion. It seemed so obvious now.

The man's whip cracks out like a viper and scores a nasty blow on Alain. take 4pts nonlethal damage "I don't care who your father is, you little twerp! You're a Wormwood crewman now! Now get moving! I don't got all day!"

At River's confused questions, he grins evilly. "You're a curious one, eh? I like that.... I'm chock full of secrets; maybe I'll show you some tonight."

Alain recoils in shock, "OW! Hey, why did you do that?" He will stumble towards the stairs, "no, it's the gangway, they'll never respect you if you don't use the correct lingo."

The fact that he's on a boat has made Cuddles more comfortable. He likes ships, and has worked on plenty when they were docked. He strides forward takes his place just behind a meek human.

Tao gritting his teeth as he hears the crack behind him and the groan of protest from Alain.
Remember. Leave it be. Follow suite. Be patient.
He takes a deep breath and speaks over his shoulder, not looking at anyone in particular.
We should aww(all) do as we aww(are) towed and go up stez(stairs).
Tao grits his teeth once more. The stress of the situation is forcing out his strong accent again.
Focus damnit. Speak slowly and concisely.
Stairs... We are obviously outnumbud and outmatched. Oua best bet is to follow theia owdus. It will be less painful fo all of us if we do.


The whip man gives a cruel laugh at Tao's words. "I like you boy! You know your place. You too, greenie!" he adds - looking at Cuddles. He points the whip at Aldous and River. "You two! Quit draggin' your lazy asses and get up here! Or I'll stop being so nice...."

Got an update from Enya. Normally she'd be freaking out about her missing otter and burning hands the crap out of everything with her SLA. However, seeing Cuddles cooperate has convinced her that it's better to go along with them - for now. She's currently following Alain up the stairs.

I stand beside Tao and nod meekly whispering into Tao's ear, "Okay, but if he's expecting me to do heavy labour, he's in for a surprise. I'm not that strong." I follow Tao up the stairs and as I pass the man I glance at him, "Where's Arirai?"

Cuddles looks around when the man calls someone "Greenie". He doesn't know anyone called Greenie. Maybe one of these humans is called Greenie. Humans have weird names anyway, it fits.
He follows up the stairs, the sea-weathered boards creak in protest as his 330 pounds tests each of their integrity in turn.

Aldous doesn't hesitate, offering Enya a hand before heading quickly over to the stairs, pulling Alain up to his feet as well.

"Come now, it appears we have work to do."

At which point, Aldous moves up the stairs, following behind River, Tao, and Cuddles. Making sure he sizes each and every person up as he goes.

Sizing up:
Aldous has an 18 if he takes 10 to Sense Motive, or I can roll it. Not sure which you would prefer for checking these guys out, but he intends to watch each and every person he sees that is not obviously been pressganged.


Yeah, you’re on a boat. A big boat. More of a ship really. The men usher you roughly onto the main deck where you see you’re in the middle of the ocean. Many miles behind you, there’s something hazy that might be land, but it’s too far away to be certain. There’s approximately 20 people on deck (that’s 4 hands worth of fingers, Cuddles), and they’re all looking at the high stern deck where two figures are standing.

The first: a tall Garundi man with a shaven beard, eyepatch, and muscles that rival Cuddles’ in size is clearly the captain. He speaks, ”Glad you could join us at last! Welcome to the Wormwood! My thanks for ‘volunteering’ to join my crew. I’m Barnabas Harrigan – that’s CAPTAIN Barnabas Harrigan to you, not that you’ll ever need to address me. I like talk, but I don’t like your talk. Follow that rule, and we’ll get along fine.

Oh, and one more thing: even with you new recruits, we’re still short-handed, and I aim to keep what crew I have. There’ll be a keelhaulin’ for anyone caught killing anyone. Mr. Plugg! If you’ll be so kind as to make pirates out of these landlubbers, it’ll save me from having to put them in the sweatbox for a year and a day before I make pies out o’ them.” He then walks away, leaving you under the care of the second man.

This man – you assume he’s Mr. Plugg – is younger and has lost most of his hair. He carries a cat-o’-nine-tails and waves it in your direction as he yells, ”All right, you lot! Up the mainmast! Get to the crow’s nest, and be quick about it – I don’t have all day! Come on, then, hurry it up!”

If you participate, I will need multiple Climb checks (DC 10). The mast is 60ft tall. First person to reach the top wins! Normally, you can Climb at 1/4 your speed (8 checks minimum). If you attempt an Accelerated Climb, you can move 1/2 your speed (4 checks minimum) but take a -5 penalty to the roll. Keep rolling until you reach the top; I’ll retcon if necessary once everyone’s done. Don’t worry about falling damage if you fail by 5+. As I said, I’ll figure out the results once we have a winner. Aldous:
It's pretty obvious that there are 4 other brand-new crewmen (aside from your group). They look very similar to you - nervous and confused. Aside from them, you have your typical pirate types. Male, female, dwarf, halfling, half-orc, human, etc. After the captain's done speaking, they watch you with expectant expressions. Looks like they're sizing you up.... Is that what you're looking for?

Unrelated, I'd appreciate it if you could put your vitals in a spoiler tag so I don't have to go through your profile to find - say - your HP. Thanks. :-)

I listen to the captain shouting orders, but say nothing. Then I am told to climb a very tall pole, "Well that's not going to work. But here goes." With that I place my hands onto the mast and begin trying to scale it.
