Also, I can also rework Virog into a fighter if we need me to. As much as I love playing my toolbox casters, they already make up 60-70% of my PFS characters. After surviving the ambush, the PCs are able to leave the Shrine of the Failed and deliver Eylysia’s cache to the Grand Lodge. The crowd gathered around the Starstone Cathedral has disbanded, and many of the locals are still horrified following Sir Reinhart’s attempt to vault the chasm on horseback, which ended with a fall into oblivion.

Drandle Dreng personally thanks the PCs for their successful investigation, indicating his interest in their future careers as Pathfinders. If the PCs have yet to complete their Confirmation, the venture-captain promises to speak with Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine to have the process expedited. Dreng assures PCs who have already completed their Confirmation that they will receive further assignments soon.

I'm good with either trying to recruit one more, or running with the group we have with modifications. If Virog rebuilds, do we have anyone to heal? Swash, Invest, Kineticist, Monk...

I think we need another or we've no caster.
Right now we've got two cannons, one caster, one skill monkey and one support character (Mivvy is going to go heavily into bard, but secondary muscle is a good start for my swashbardler). We need someone to go toe-to-toe with foes, whether that's a Druid, inquisitor, paladin, fighter, whatever...

The invitation delivered last night was remarkably simple, especially given the importance of the occasion: “Start where it all began. Meet us at the Pig’s Paunch one hour before dawn.”

The Pig’s Paunch is a run-down building with a faded sign of a large pig standing on its hind legs, arms folded above a corpulent belly. Inside, the air is thick with the scents of human sweat, stale tobacco, and leftover food. In the center of the room, surrounded by inebriates sleeping off their revelries, a familiar elven man stands high upon top of a large round table. “Welcome! Welcome, my students! Please, have a seat!” With that, Kreighton Shaine, the Pathfinder Society’s Master of Scrolls, nimbly drops down to sit cross-legged on the table before looking about the tavern with a sense of reverent wonder. “Can you believe it? It all started here years ago—well, over four hundred of them at least. Under this very roof the Pathfinder Society was born. But today! Today you will begin your Confirmation! Master Farabellus, Master Zey, and I all agree you each have shown your worth and dedication to the Society, so there’s no better time to see if you can handle becoming full field operatives. Allow me to introduce you to Janira Gavix,” he says as he motions for an excitable halfling woman to approach. She wears a large backpack and carries all manner of tools, pouches, and scroll cases around her waist. Shaine continues, saying, “Janira here will be going with you on your Confirmation. She was one of my brightest pupils and will no doubt be an invaluable resource on your journey, for she discovered the caves you are about to explore during her own Confirmation.”

Janira speaks up in an enthusiastic and cheerful voice, “Greetings, aspiring Pathfinders! Six months ago, while I was mapping cave entrances in the foothills of the Kortos Mounts, I witnessed a lone gillman entering a concealed cave. I thought little of it at the time, but I saw another one enter the cave again a month later as my Confirmation stretched on. A few days later, after I completed my assigned task, I entered the cave system, but was unable to find the gillmen.”

Master Shaine hops to his feet. “Initiates, for your Confirmation, you will travel to these caves to explore and document its many passages. Additionally, and most importantly, you are to learn what the gillmen are up to in there. Oh, and you need to come back alive as well.” With these parting words, the Master of Scrolls jumps off the table and strolls out of the building while humming to himself.

You have time now to ask questions of Janira, as well as to introduce yourselves. Especially the newcomers.

The very tall figure appears human, but washed-out in colour. Long grey hair and lightly coloured eyes frame a face that has a non-binary appearance. The intricately-embroidered armoured coat about their shoulders makes up for the pallor, a garish blend of metallic threads and bright hues draped on their frame. A large sword handle poking out from behind their right shoulder blade echoes some of the metallic hues, though its worn handle and scabbard speak of years of use. Where they sit, the aromas of the Pig's Paunch seem less pronounced, as if some slight disturbance clears the air. The eyes have a shimmer as they speak, but the blinks seem to come too slowly to meet their gaze for long.

Virog shuffled over, realizing that their motley crew had altered since it had last gathered. He extended a hand towards Drea, leaning back slightly so that he can look up towards their face. "I'm surprised the society hasn't done something to memorialise its origins here. Something grandly symbolic. Or perhaps it has?" Mivvy smiles at her own joke.
Mivvy offers the newcomers a polite smile, How delightful to meet you both! I haven't been to Wati for years." She throws back her head, "Goodnes, the food! You cannot get dates anywhere like the dates in Wati."

She looks around. "I thought we were awaiting one or two more," Janira remarks.

A figure charged into the run-down pub, skidding to a halt inside and whirring around to slam the door shut behind him. He was a Human male, with dull blue eyes and a visible beard that seemed to be growing back. He was dressed in a dark green traveling cloak and visibly armed with a bastard sword and shield. A holy symbol of some kind hung from around his neck as he kept himself braced against the door, panting.

There were a few seconds of intense silence, then the door thumped loudly. It sounded like something crashed into it. After that, there was silence again. Controlling his breathing, he slowly pulled the door open and peered outside, leading to him poking his head outside, then breathing a sigh, closing the door behind him again. He turned to face those already inside and put on a friendly smile, speaking in a pleasant, baritone voice, "Hello there! This is the Pathfinder Confirmation meet-up correct? "Good tidings," the sylph intones.

"Have we our quorum? I am prepared to Find the Path and Confirm it."

Their unflinching expression and achingly slow blink makes it difficult to know if there was a shade of humour to the comment.

“On to the details of the mission at hand,” Janira says with an eager grin. “After reviewing my mission reports personally, Master Shaine believes it is no coincidence that each time they entered the caves it was during a full moon, so it is also no coincidence that you have been called here now, just a day before the moon is full again. We both believe that tomorrow night is our best chance to find out why these caves are important and what exactly the gillmen are doing in there."

After a breath, her excited speech continues. “The caves we’ll be travelling to lie under the base of the Kortos Mounts. We’ll need to spend every minute of daylight possible to reach the caves by foot, crossing over the Cairnlands, taking the paths to Diobel, and finally making our way through the wilderness. With any luck we won’t run into any of the local inhabitants. Once in the caves, we’ll need to work together to explore and determine whether any gillman are present or have been recently. Keep an eye out for any other clues that might hint at the caves’ significance, too.”

"The full moon? I hate to be making too much of a fuss but I hope there is no suspicion of lycanthropy amongst the gillmen?" Myvanwie pauses thoughtfully. "Perhaps I should inquire after some silversheen?"

Janira laughs. “I know what you’re thinking, but I have no reason to believe the gillmen activity has anything to do with lycanthropy.” After another brief moment, she says, “Now, before we head out, if there aren’t any more questions, we should take a moment to go through your gear and make sure nothing important gets left out.”

She checks to ensure you all have some materials, including healing supplies, rope, a splash weapon or two here and there, and just general adventuring equipment. Finding everything in order, she states just how important it is that you conform to the ideals of exploration, cooperation, and reporting.

The journey through the City at the Center of the World is swift and without incident, and before long you are trekking across what a less charitable sort might call wilderness. Most of the journey is uneventful, but Janira points out landmarks such as siege towers, distant mountains, and distinct flora and fauna along the journey to keep you all upbeat and spirited.

As the party progresses deeper into the forest, the trees towering overhead begin to shield most of what remains of the day’s sun and the vegetation beneath grows denser. Janira pauses a moment and pulls out an intricate silver compass emblazoned with the Pathfinder Society logo: the Glyph of the Open Road. “I received this wayfinder when I successfully completed my Confirmation. Should we be successful on our journey, you will get your own as well.” She flips open the device and holds it in front of her; the initials J. L. are engraved into the inside of the device’s lid. After studying the compass inside for a moment, she remarks, “We’re on the right path. We need to keep heading northwest past those large rocks up ahead.”

Most of the trees in this section of the forest have trunks that are too big for any creatures to share their space. Sporadic patches of light undergrowth provide areas for creatures to hide while restricting movement for those passing through. A large rock outcropping to the east rises nearly 20 feet above the forest floor, and a small sinkhole to the northwest drops off sharply, descending to the ground 10 feet below.

Janira looks at Drea, and for a moment her gaze shifts somewhere beyond. "Yes, it is my name. I may not always have been Janira Gavix, but that's a story for another time. This is about your stories, and the stories of those who came before. This is not the time for my story to be told." She gives a sort of half-smile, a knowing expression which hides secrets untold, success, tragedy, and myriad other emotions just behind the eyes.

Without warning, Janira's eyes dart around.

Perception checks please, everyone! And then initiatives too. Make sure your minis are on the map and your perception will determine whether or not you act in the surprise round.
