Also still here! And yeah, I'd hate to see FCD go away, but checking through his aliases, he doesn't seem to have posted anywhere on the boards for two weeks now, and was reporting trouble posting before then. At some point, we would have to move on... :/
Garden Tool |
I've received no reply from Fireclaw, so I'm going to have to replace him, and that kinda sucks. Before I reopen the Recruitment Thread and start fishing for a fifth, I have a prospect I'd like everyone's opinion on.
I've very recently met a forumite named Oterisk who seems quite reliable and is apparently an established and reputable player for whom Stiehl9s vouches.
He's interested in joining one of my games (at least I think he is - he was until very recently and I have no reason to believe that anything's changed), so I've invited him to the discussion thread to say hello.
The catch: He's going on vacation for two weeks in early August (i.e. in a little over a week). For one of those two weeks, he won't be able to post at all - for the other, he'll be sporadic. Other than that, he seems a very well-recommended player. I figure we can handle that, well-established and strong as the campaign seems to be so far. Thoughts?

Hey everyone!
I just finished reading your entire game and it looks like quite the adventure so far. It seems like a fast paced escape kind of game. The funny thing to me is though you have been posting since May, your characters haven't been acquainted for more than a couple hours, so jumping in at this point or soon after as the case may be would be pretty easy.
Just to introduce myself, I am Oterisk. I started gaming 16 years ago and about two years ago our home group finally made a switch from 2nd edition to Pathfinder and I haven't looked back. Since then I've been fairly active on the boards and have written three guides for prestige classes. I've done a couple of PBPs that have died, including a high level one with Stiehl9s.
I think I would be interested in jumping into this one, even though I tend to shy away from "evil" campaigns. I can do neutral, and this one basically seems like it is just plain survival and perhaps revenge/justice on those who set you up. I can dig it. It looks like we have a pirate, a mercenary and a thug left alive and active. I am thinking of a wizard or an alchemist because you guys are a little weak on the magic end of things.
That is if everyone is cool with me joining up. :)
Garden Tool |
It's not an evil game, it's just a non-good one.
The "dedicated magical problem-solver, knowledge-monkey, and healer" role is the one that just fell through. Unfortunately, the group has access to no healing at this point, and the only spellcaster is multiclassed and:
a.) temporarily dead,
b.) more of a blaster than a fixer
Alchemist sounds great, wizard almost as much so. The opinions of your fellow players count more than mine does, though.
Shisumo |
I think I'm playing the only actually-evil character in the group, and Kamlann's... well, not exactly evil-lite but he's definitely not mustache-twirling villain (or, for that matter, likely to double-cross the party... once he's willing to admit there is a party, anyway...). We could really use a healer, though, without Jelani - that's where I'd want to see you angle your intentions. Unfortunately, wizard and alchemist are both pretty terrible at such things, though there is an alchemist build that can do it kinda...
Seamus Haggrathy |
I'd chime in and say healing would be nice. I'm actually a fan of Oracle as a class but I wouldn't want to force you into a slot. In fact, should Seamus bite it (a distinct possibility it appears lol), I'd talk to Garden Tool about coming back with an Oracle if allowed.
Oterisk |
I actually played an alchemist who was the primary healer in our group. It did require us to pick up a few extra items on occasion, but otherwise it worked out alright. Infusion helps with healing, and a Mindchemist is about the best knowledge monkey that can be found. I would also go with smoke bombs as well (as an extra discovery feat) as a gateway to some fun bomb effects.
I could be persuaded to play a druid as well, I've had my eye on a Eagle Shaman for quite some time. He would be way light on the knowledges, but would be able to heal a little better. I don't have much invested in a character yet so I'm pliable at this point.

Thanks Stiehl9s. Whenever a character dies in my tabletop game the other players want that player to run a character that meets the needs of the group. I never encourage it, I always tell my players to play what they want, it makes the game better plus there is nothing worse than playing a character you do not really want to play.
Oterisk |
Well, I will think about it. I have a busy night tonight and I will submit a build tomorrow. Since I am going on vacation, my workload is a bit higher than usual and I ate up most of my available time reading your thread and discussion.
I appreciate the encouragement Dennis and Stiehl9s, but to me, making a character is like eating at a well stocked buffet. There's lots of things I like and I won't be able to eat them all. But I understand your concerns and I wish to assure you. I won't choose anything I wouldn't want to play for a while.

Piton Sharpfeather- 3rd level N Human Druid (Feather Domain)
Piton is a bit of a hot headed young druid who is currently tracking down a pirate who likes to shoot birds for sport with his crossbow. His purpose is exact revenge for all of the destruction he has caused. He cares more about animals than people, and isn't afraid to say so, although he will ally with them if it suits his purposes.

Jesus. I can see this already.
Piton: "Sen Dendragon. For your crimes against nature and against the living inheritors of the seas and skies of the Inner Sea, I must avenge those dozens that you have slaughtered by your own death at my hand."
Dendragon: "That so."
(combat ensues Twang! Clack.)
Dendragon: "Just out of curiosity, kid - before I kill you, y'know - who'd I hit that's got you all suicidal?"
Piton (panting and injured): "For your imminent demise you may thank only your pointless and merciless slaughter of the gulls and birds of the Shackles and coastal regions all over the Inner Sea nations."
(the combat pauses)
Dendragon: "...what?"
Oterisk |
Piton (striking anime pose): "And now my friends, demonstrate the power of nature's might!"
Dendragon (firing crossbow while Piton Summons): "You seriously need to get out more, kid."
Piton (getting shot again): " Ugh!"
Dendragon (making note in book): "And that's twenty. Darn druids breed like vermin."
Seriously though, he is from the Napsune Mountains near the Sodden Lands and he holds a grudge against most civilizations for their "waste". His mentor told him not to go, but he went anyway, half because of this foolish errand and half due to his insatiable wanderlust. He is a bit less of a serious character, but he isn't quite that bad Garden Tool. I do like to have fun with my characters though, so be warned.
Oterisk |
I do have one thing that I do wish to say.
I don't want to ruin anyone's appreciation and enthusiasm for the game you are playing. I do know that every time you enter someone else into the mix it will affect the sum, and I know that usually people have some choice in the matter of who they are gaming with.
For that reason, and since from what I understand I wouldn't be starting up until after I return from my vacation about a month from now, I will post two more characters with varying skill sets and personalities and you as a group can decide whether or not you would like any to join you or not at all. You can take your time to decide about who you would like and I can guarantee that it won't affect me negatively no matter what your decision. Also, don't worry about how much work I put into this. I really enjoy building characters, so it is no skin off of my nose. If you decide to invite others to do a tryout as well, I won't be upset at that either.
If I do join, I would want it to be enthusiastic and unanimous. It is a game after all, and I don't have time to have animosity and stress when I do this for camaraderie and relaxation.
In summary, there's no rush. We can take our time to make any proper decisions about something you have put a lot of time and effort into.

Btw, I'm still following the game, except for a few days, thus missing the latest recuitment round. (Ah well.)
I hope nobody else drops out, but if so, please consider me for replacemnet then.

@ Shisumo - great Howard Stern reference!
@ Nimt - Glad to have an audience. As far as I know the recruitment for Garden Tool's Delving the Drowning Stones is still open. Hurry up and hop in!
@ Oterisk - Thats a more than fair offer. Im already liking Piton though. Could be because I have a friend that raises & races homing pigeons (you might not believe the $money$ involved) so could see him taking revenge on the 'hawks' of the world. But I love to vote on things so Id be happy to participate in the choice.
Shisumo |
So... I'm thinking about starting a Shattered Star PbP when the AP releases next month. Rather than do an open recruitment, I'm just going to try to build a group out of the players I'm already playing with. So if anyone in this thread is interested, send me a PM and we can discuss the details.

Syndir, thank you for the hint, unfortunately recruitment was already closed.

Yeah I'm still here, been watching the boards but I didn't think you were waiting on me. We're headed to Sargava but I didn't necessarily think that would warrant any significant response. I was waiting for the next bump of us arriving or something happening. Given Seamus's current predicament, any port is as good as the next. Unless the name Endymion was a reference that I totally missed and should be alot more worried or excited about.
Garden Tool |
Heh. Sorry, I'm relatively new to Golarion, so I tend to assume everyone around these parts knows more than I do about names and places.
EDIT: Arronax Endymion

A quick announcement: FireclawDrake will be rejoining us with his original character, Jelani. As a group, it seems the most popular decision regarding the return of FireclawDrake would be to proceed with a six-man party including both Jelani and Oterisk's yet-to-be-determined character. If Oterisk and FireclawDrake could sound off here in the discussion thread, we can talk about the specifics of Jelani's reintroduction, and whether or not Oterisk would like to change his concept now that the group can expect to have some healing on board again.
By the way: this will bump your APL up by 1, which will make encounters somewhat more difficult going forward. Watch out, everyone.
Jelani Guldis |
Hey guys, want to apologize for my sudden disappearance. There were some medical issues (which have now been resolved), and I really could've come in here to tell you guys, so I apologize for leaving you all hanging. Thanks for giving me another chance. Hopefully things will be better for us going forward xD.
