I see no reason why mage hand could not move a grappling hook into place, so that's alright. There are no real "objects with ample places to catch" (language from the grappling hook entry) on the rooftop of the eatery (it's a flat rooftop with flimsy gutters, and a facade front at the far side), but there are plenty on the top of your inn, and on top of the gambling hall (both are sloped roofs with runoff gutters and decorative parapets).
Remember that mage hand only goes 15 feet per round. The gutter at the edge of the gambling hall rooftop or your own rooftop is sufficient to support the grappling hook.

"If someone moves the bed I can jump it".
Farid is only half paying attention as he looks back out to the hall to determine whether Syndir will make it up or if the guards will reach him first.

I think at that point, then, our best bet is to hit the gambling hall roof - we don't have a lot of time, so I don't think we should waste actions going up when we need to be going sideways. Can we judge what the Climb DC would be if we used the rope to get to the gambling hall roof?
And I remembered the 15 ft move, which is part of why mage hand is the backup plan - it's for when the dice roller kicks us in the teeth again and I miss my throw. :P A 15 ft throw with the hook should be AC 7, so under normal circumstances, I wouldn't worry about it at all - I only miss on a 1 or a 2. But after that fight... Actually, Seamus only misses on a 1 - you wanna throw it, maybe?

Hey, if anyone here considers himself an optimizer (or just clever), help me out in this thread. I'm trying to justify an indulgent barbarian build. : P

I like the idea of the docks as well, plus there is a good chance the person Farid is looking for is somewhere in that place as well. In fact I blame Syndir for my troubles, that Inn was way too nice of an establishment for Farid to be staying in!
Garden Tool |
Remember, the sandman (or someone else) had presumably slain everyone in that tavern before you even arrived. That smacks of divination. And recently-cast, too, unless you're dealing with pretty heavy-duty spellcasters already.
Kamlann, there are no checkpoints between districts, per se. There are no walls either, strictly speaking, but there is a large wrought iron fence seperating the docks district from the higher-elevation districts (like the one you're in). Guards man the occasional fence-gate, but long stretches of the gated "wall" that forms the border of the docks district are unmanned, and climbing a fence is easy. It's about ten feet tall, and it serves no defensive purpose.

Syndir could have sworn that that particular tavern was Farid's idea!
The docks sound good to me. If it comes to it a boat wont be slowed down by the stone.

I need to make an unpleasant announcement. My laptop has been acting a little odd for the last couple weeks, and yesterday it become evident that the issue was less one to be filed under "annoying (mildly)" and more under "catastrophic (impending)."
The good news is, I have my stuff backed up and the laptop is under warranty; the bad news is, I'm about to go offline for probably at least a week while I get my computer fixed. I will have my phone to post with, but things could get interesting, and I might not be completely reliable on my usual daily basis.
Garden Tool |
Let's take a group vote (or split up), then, and arrive at a decision. Front door, back door, window, other? Safehouse, shrine, or somewhere else? Together or seperately?
Also, I have a bit of a good news/bad news announcement.
The bad news: I'll need to be cutting back to about one or two posts a day, for now. I like this campaign a lot and am not withdrawing from it, I'm just not going to be able to post more than once or twice a day. This'll make it all the more important that everyone else also posts a minimum of once or twice a day, to keep things moving.
The good news: I just got my consignment paperwork approved from the Paizo Consignment team last Friday. Your GM, the Garden Tool, is now the founder, lead designer, lead editor, and art director for an unincorporated, non-LLC organization called Abandoned Arts, which will be offering for sale several product lines of Pathfinder Roleplaying Game compatible tabletop game content via the Paizo Store. You can click the link, but there's nothing there just yet. My first couple of products are still pending the artwork I've commissioned.
Writing and producing tabletop games and tabletop game content has been a childhood dream of mine since I was about 10. To have an opportunity to contribute something - anything - to the industry, is literally a childhood dream come true, even if I only sell one copy. This new project is going to take up quite a lot of my time, however, hence the playtime constraints.
Again, I'm not dropping the campaign - this is just a heads up that my activity will be restricted to one or two posts-per-day for now. Thanks for understanding!

Congrats on the accomplishment! You've done exactly what I hope to be doing sometime in the (probably far) future. Might have to send you a PM and find out what the hoops you jumped through are later on.
As to the game, I'll be around no matter how often the posts come. I'm having a blast. For the voting, my vote would be Backdoor and heading to the Shrine. That loadstone is a monumental pain in the ass.
Syndir Apep |
Mad congratulations Garden Tool! That is too cool and definitely a gamer dream come true. Will wait patiently to see what you turn out.
As to the decreased posting...I have no issues here. Truth to tell this game has almost spoiled to me to some games where one post every day or so is typical so at least one or two a day is still awesome.
Very glad to hear that the game will continue as well. Very much enjoying how it started and set on the idea that it can only get better.
my vote is out the back door and straight to a shrine then the safe house.
Jelani Guldis |
Congrats to you Garden Tool! I agree with Syndir, we go at a fantastic pace already, sometimes it's hard to keep up. Either way! Loving the game and congrats to you! Be sure to point us to anything you release.
Backdoor and head to the shrine. Safehouse after shrine. Leave instructions for Gann to direct Farid to us.
Garden Tool |
Looks like we've all decided on the back door exit and the shrine? If someone wants to lead the party out in a gameplay thread post, we'll carry on. Oh, and are you guys sneaking out? If so, give me Stealth checks. Farid, go ahead and give me a Perception check in the gameplay thread with a -10 for distance.
Also: Has anyone seen or heard from Shisumo? It's very unusual for him to miss a day with no warning.

Sorry, real life rather exploded every which way this weekend - huge amounts of work, my wife's birthday party and then taking her to the doctor unexpectedly yesterday morning (the two events were not connected, and she's fine). I'm back, we're good, and I apologize for my absence. Also, congrats and good luck on the publishing gig!
Garden Tool |
Thanks again. If you do check us out, definately come tell me what you think.
If you like it (or if you'd like to criticize it!), consdider writing a review or contributing to the product discussion threads. The biggest challenge we will face is going to be getting noticed on a nonexistant budget. The PDFs are a good value ($0.99 for 2 pages of crunch - literally the minimum price that Paizo would let me sell them for), so if you want to see more... spread the word a little.
Garden Tool |
Noted.
Just a quick reminder since it's been awhile between combats: I don't roll with my modifiers on the table, unless a roll would render a modifier immediately apparent (such as initiative checks and damage rolls).
Otherwise, all you get to see is the die roll, provided it's an on-the-table sort of roll.
By the way: if anyone has checked out Abandoned Arts PDF line, I'm dying to know what you think. Professionally, I can't beg for feedback in the Product Discussions thread, but I sure can at my own table!
(No one is under any obligation to buy my stuff, of course! I'm just curious about what you thought if you did. Actually, if anyone wants a freebie, I'll hook you up. Name one of the PDFs and I'll get you a copy. The catch? You have to write a quick, honest review on the reviews page.)
Garden Tool |
Sounds good. I'll ask Liz Courts to set you up with a free PDF copy of Class Acts: Fighters.
Jelani Guldis |
Generally I don't allow 3rd party of any kind at my table, which means I will (sadly), probably not use any of these. This is further complicated by the fact that I don't allow laptops or tablets at my table (too many distractions), so people have to have hardcopies. Perhaps these will change my mind though...
Since you are looking for reviews, I will take a copy of the Rogue book (as the Cleric book has the most reviews and others in the thread have taken the other classes). Also, I find rogues to be the most boring class in Pathfinder, so maybe this book will be able to spice them up for me.
