I concur with the emergency kit idea. Your prices are slightly off though. Just the material component for Raised dead is 5K, and you still need two castings of Restoration to remove the negative levels after you come back - those material components are 1K each. So a fully restored dead pc would cost us 7K in mats, not counting the cost of having the spells cast.

Best to build a kit that helps us avoid death for now. Since Ojore can cast Lesser Restoration already we should get scrolls and not potions of that (now watch Ojore loose so much wisdom that he is unable to cast second level spells lol ). And partially charged wands, if available are the most cost effective solution. Pretty sure Lesser Restoration is on Nicoleta's spell list as well.

Seconding or thirding the team reserve and the "wands in lieu of potions" bit. As long as they are on someone's spell list. Most of the groups I have been playing with are using a N+1 method of treasure division. All treasure is divided between N characters plus a kitty. That way there is a reserve that continually refills, and people can still save up for their own desired purchases.

By the way, I did, of course, mean that the giant spider was worth 1,200 in total. That's 240 xp each.

The gameplay thread has been updated with Kargath's considerable knowledge of ettercaps.

Also we are likely only going to be able to sell the jewelry for about half its worth unless we can find someone to simply barter with in exchange for it. That will put us at about 500gp each with 500gp in a shared fund - assuming my appraisal of 6k is accurate.

If we mark the ettercaps on the map we can continue on our original path.
Other options would be to somehow separate them into small groups of 2-3 at a time to whittle them down to manageable numbers.

Cheliax

Gems, art, and other pretty but non-useful valuables "sell" for their listed values. Really, you're probably trading them for the things you actually want, as opposed to selling them for coin, then trading the coin. Currency is fine, but barter is far from dead. Items whose value is something more than "looking pretty" sell for half the listed value.

In additon to making sense, this is my interpretation of the guidelines for building a treasure hoard.

Male Human Magus 5/Rogue 3 (HP 51, AC 21 (25 w/ shield), Touch 15 (19), Flat 17 (21)) Arcane Pool 2/8

Ok, good to know. I was thinking in terms of trade goods (as listed in the equipment chapter) being exchangeable at equal values.

Cheliax

Yep, and gold is a trade good. In coin or in jewelery, a pound of gold is a pound of gold.

@GT - blast and bebother the XP split. but, a dwarf can dream, can't he?

As for gold as a trade good, ah the good old days of coin worth. Some items are worth more than their poundage, for the artistry or wahtever, but when I goldsmith needs material for his next amulet, he just needed to (ahem) liquidate some coinage. ;-)

Cheliax

The gp value of treasure isn't always directly tied to it's weight, this is true.

@GT - just got the AA documents. They look nice. I'll pore over them tonight, I'm sure.

Male Human Magus 5/Rogue 3 (HP 51, AC 21 (25 w/ shield), Touch 15 (19), Flat 17 (21)) Arcane Pool 2/8

Just got mine too. Thanks again GT.

Cheliax

Cool! Let me know what you think.

(Or better yet, write a review.) : P

Will do...and will do!

Just to let everyone know. I have an all-day RL game tomorrow and will be traveling to San Diego most of next week. While in SD, I'll have internet access at night at the hotel.

Sounds fun! An all day game would be great. I am going to Dragon Con next weekend. Plan on playing quite a bid of PFS.

About every 6 weeks, my GM's old gaming group gets together for a 1pm-1am game day. We're all strung out by the end of it, but it's a blast.

Cheliax

Quick heads-up: I am going to be out of commission today.

M: Human Mwangi Gestalt Druid 1/Barbarian 1 || HP 15/15 || AC 20, T 13, FF 17, CMD 16 || F +4, R +2, W +4 || Per. +6 Init +2

Further heads up - I will be at Dragon Con in Atlanta GA this weekend starting Thursday afternoon. My ability to post will be limited most of the time there though I will try to post at least once a day and likely both very early and very late.

Cheliax

Quick update: in court today! Witness summons. Bear with me.

Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Cheliax

Yes. On that note: yesterday was an utter waste of time. Lawyers.

Now then: skum time. Stand by for actions and map updates.

Hey guys, I'm going out of town for the weekend with my wife, I should have Internet on my phone but in case I lose it, I wanted you to know about my absence.

@GT, will we be allowed to buy equipment from Ultimate Equipment? I'm specifically looking at using a Wyroot spear to apply coup de grace to downed but not dead opponents. But this would also mean extra book keeping on your end to track who is actually dead and who is just unconscious once a battle is over. And won't really matter for me till I hit Magus 4 and get spell recall.

And second question, regarding Delay Sneak Attack from the Class Acts: Rogue pdf (which I still need to write a review on). I'm trying to figure out under what circumstance a rogue would ever take this particular talent. I can't see any upsides to it, but can see several downsides. e.g., you still deal the damage, but it happens later, which means if the foe is low on health they could have just been dead this turn instead. Add on top of that if they get healed before your next turn you don't even get the damage.

Cheliax

Sorry for the delayed participation today. Abandoned Arts stuff going on (new releases coming out on multiple platforms). Fridays are rough for PbP, but better late than never!

Also, I totally missed your post (above) bbangerter! The thread never flagged a new post, so I never noticed it!

Everything from Ultimate Equipment is fair game.

Delay Sneak Attack has its applications. Mainly, it's intended to be used to put an opponent in a dangerous situation, tactically speaking, after it is too late for him or her to do anything about it. Imagine the following scenarios:

Scenario #1:
[GM]: The flanking bandit's dagger scratches you across the belly for 4 damage, tearing your armor and pricking you in the gut, but not doing much else.

[PC Fighter]: That's fine, I've got 62 hp left. I could probably finish the bandit off, but he's not a big deal. I'm going to go Cleave the attack dogs before they can do any harm.

[PC Cleric]: It looks like you've got this. I'm going to go over here and heal the mage, he got shot last round.

[GM]: Cool. The fighter has killed one of the attack dogs and injured another two. The bandit makes another attack against him, and hits for... 3 damage, plus 26 sneak attack damage.

[PC Fighter]: What?? He didn't have sneak attack dice last time!

[GM]: Oh. Actually he did. Remember that scratch across your belly? Your intestines start falling out of it. You take 30 damage, on top of the rest.

[PC Fighter]: I fight defensively! Cleric! Help me!

[PC Cleric]: I can't yet! I moved halfway across the board last round! I thought you were fine!

[GM]: The bandit smiles, and tells you that you shouldn't have attacked his dog.

Scenario #2:
[GM]: So are you casting disintegrate on the big, dumb guy or on his little friend?

[PC Wizard]: The big guy seems like the real threat. He did twice as much damage to the fighter last round. I only have one prepared, so I want to make it count. Disintegrate on the big, dumb guy.

[GM]: Actually, he didn't. The big guy is reduced to ash, but the fighter isn't looking so good.

[PC Fighter]: What?

[GM]: It's the little guy's turn. Remember that grazing blow to the side of your neck?

[PC Fighter]: Not this again...

[GM]: Jugular. I guess you guys should have saved that disintegrate. Too late now! The rogue moves in to finish you off. What's your AC again?

I'm sure you can think of 100 variations on those two situations, but that's basically what it's for. Making the enemy think that they're okay (and thus making them spend or waste resources or make poor tactical decisions), when in fact they have a lot of damage coming their way. If you just delivered a plain old sneak attack, they might just heal it up... but if they don't know that they need to heal it up, then they won't. They'll do something else, and then they'll take a big old chunk of damage once it's too late to do anything about it. And then it's your turn to attack again, and... oops! You finish your opponent off - a situation they could've avoided if only they knew about your sneak attack when they had the time to do something about it.

And that's what Delay Sneak Attack is for. : )

Popping in to let everyone know that today is the girlfriend's birthday, and I've got the day off: no posting for me. Not much of a loss since the forums are scheduled for some downtime. See you tomorrow, folks.

It's all fine. It's just that my computer usage on "gaming websites" got me flagged by the IT's at work about three weeks ago. Since then I have to wait to make long posts until after the work day. During the morning/afternoon I have to post via my phone. I'm adapting. Sorry about the slow-down and shorter posts. Honestly the hardest part has been accessing google-docs to lay down spell effects.

Evening guys!

Just want to give you a heads up that my posting will be limited from this wednesday to the next wednesday. My wife and I are going to be in Hawaii for our anniversary. I'll try to post, but don't hesitate to DMPC me if I can't respond. I will be following along, but whatever I do post will be succinct. Thanks!

Sad news, folks.

First, I'm sorry for my absence these past three days or so. My day job workplace has just SERIOUSLY cracked down on internet use in the workplace, and maintaining these threads during the week is going to become an impossibility.

I must, regrettably, resign my GM's hat. You guys have been a great bunch of players, and I feel pretty terrible about having to cancel.

If anyone wants to step up and take over the campaign, I'll figure out what I need to do - just let me know.

Thanks again, guys.

:( - Very sad to loose one of my favorite games. Thanks for all the hard work you did put into this. I'd love the chance to play with you and all the players again. I am not quite ready to take up a game, but I really want do try it soon. Maybe this spring.

I apologize for my silence recently. i haven't been able to access the Paizo forums for days.

GT, I am sorry to see it go as well. Thanks for doing this for us, we enjoyed it.
