Simon rushes up to the part of the tree that is on fire, causing it to rain upon the part of the tree that is on fire. While it dumps a lot of water and makes some of the flames sputter, it simply isn't enough water to put out that big a fire.
By my reading of the spell, you can either make it rain, or make water appear in containers. Rain isn't a focused enough force of water to put out the blaze.
GM_Verdigris |
Kast's spell heals Katarynne just to consciousness. Grey-green fungus still threads through her skin and hangs from her extremities, though her eyes look clear, for now.
"The tree......" she whispers hoarsely.
Nimeon is up...

Round 9 summary
Dorial glides towards the opening to the tree. Descending, she places both feet on the ground as she returns to her human form. glide is a move, turning back is a standard Othoe launches a force missile at the prone Katarynne, sending her slipping towards death. Simon rushes to the tree, creating water on the fire. It slows it, but doesn't put it out. fire doesn't spread this round Nimeon rushes to the opening of the tree, peering into it's dark interior through a curtain of fungus. Kast rushes to Katarynne, undoing Othoe's magic. Katarynne wakes, mumbling about the tree. Chrystosm spies the broken water system of the old papermill and tries to juryrig it to get water for the fire. will take another round, but the DD roll is good.

"We're really all rushing into a burning magical tree covered in dangerous fungus?"
Othoe straightens his vest, "OK then."

Kast casts Protection from Evil on Kataryenne.
That was a nice hug from Fleur.
PAY ATTENTION!
She smelled nice.
Save this one, then maybe later you can stop and smell the roses.
Soldiers sacrifice.
Kast bows his head, focusing on saving the fey.
GM_Verdigris |
Oops, I doubled Dorial's round. Her actions that I put for last round, happened in this one.
Nimeon Strikes a sunrod at tree's entrance, and advances in search of the rest of the townsfolk.
The fungus tries to claim Katarynne's mind again, but Kast's dedicated care seems to keep it at bay. While not gone, Kast's work seems to have freed her mind from its grasp, at least for now. She raises her head and speaks, though it costs her much to do so.
"The tree...never did I think to say such...but you must kill...the tree..."

Simon continues to pour water on the fire, keeping it under control.
Kast, having done all that he can for the huldra, calls for Fleur and stalks off to the tree.

GM_Verdigris |
definitely can't be tripped. ;)
Simon's attentive care keeps the tree alive and the fire contained.
Othoe's missiles slam into the vine, making Bricks dance like a marionette as the roping fungus herky jerks inside of him.
He tries to talk, but his words come out like so much mush from around the thick, writhing cord filling his mouth.
the missiles do seem to affect the rope holding Bricks, and to a less degree those holding the others. It just doesn't set him free at this point.
The fungal vines writhe at the presence of new meat, the one holding Jaryd's corpse slipping slickly out of him to attack the closest new source, Nimeon.

Round 12
Kast limps into the tree, trying to push out of his mind what it would mean to never walk out of it again.
I would never know her.
Kast gulps back the fear from that thought and focuses again on the task at hand, on perfection, on saving lives.
Kast sizes the vines constrict the villagers.
He swings at the ones around Ubert, hoping to free the man he barely recognizes.

Kast swings at the vine working its way through Ubert. The thick fungal rope jerks the man around, but can't escape the mighty Quill as the blade cuts a huge gash in its flesh.
Chrystosm's attack hacks into the vine in Zephram. The man's gasp becomes a groan as the vine wriggles against Chrystosm's blade.

Round 12 summary
Dorial activates her hairpin and tries to hit the coil affixed to Zephram but misses. Othoe hits the rope running through Bricks with a full set of magic missiles, damaging it, but causes his friend immense pain in the process. Simon continues to water the tree, keeping the fire in check. The vine within the dead elf at the far end of the room, pulls free to attack Nimeon, but misses. Nimeon swings at the the thick fungal cord that just attacked him, but misses worse than the cord did. Kast attacks the one holding Ubert, nearly, but not quite severing the coil from fleshy pulsing wall. This too seems to cause the man immense pain. Fleur tries to tend to Katarynne. Chrystosm nicks the rope holding Zephram, at least beginning the process to free the man.

Othoe changes tack. He leaves the injuries to his companions, and instead tries to soften the blows on poor Bricks, trapped in the vines. He draws a scroll, casts Infernal Healing, steps up on Bricks and touches him with all the healing graces of Asmodeus.
"You'll live my friend, just hang in there. This is going to hurt before you're free."

Bricks jerks against the slow sizzling burn that is Asmodeus' healing. His cheeks gain a tinge more color and he nods around the coil that has him pinned inside and out.

Round 13
Kast's next vicious strike severs the cord holding Zephram up, dropping the man to the floor. The severed piece crawls free, one end lifting up as if seeking a new target, then dissolves into a fine green dust.
Katarynne, still wobbling, but insistent, moves to Simon's side.
"Stop, Favored Friend. The Tree..." Her voice catches, the words catching in her throat. "It must die. Let the fire take it. Let it go." She reaches out, nearly touching him, but sees the fungus coating her hands. Though dormant now, it's not dead, and could still prove contagious even now.
Fleur gnaws at her lip, worrying for those inside. Finally, she can stand it no more and creeps close to the entrance, whispering on the wind.
Chrystosm is up, then the tree
