In short, this homebrew was intended for beginner GM's. The story contains a variety of elements in sequence that gradually go through different terrains, battle situations, and other challenges to allow a DM to become familiar with the rules.

One devil ignores the combat altogether and begins digging into the flesh of the giant who has died upon impact from the fall.
Guthar pulls out his rope from his bag and attaches it to an outcropping of crystal that seems sturdy. He notes that the cavern wall seems particularly slippery. It's almost frictionless entirely.
The giants return attack against the abishai devils now, ignoring your group for the moment.

edit:I just realized I miscalculated my HP. I dropped out of rage before I drank the potion which puts me at -6/62.

Stabilization check DC 16: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27 should have been made last round. If I fail then I have to go against a DC 17 for this round.

Stable but useless. :)

Let's seek some refuge from that battle down here, maybe we should abandon the cart, and hope the giant's lose and the flying demons have no use for a zombie horse and cart?

The tunnel down which Thervold is currently hiding gets smaller as it goes. The cart may be used to block it off so that the giants and devils can't follow if the horse runs full tilt to jam the cart in.

Guthar is unconscious, but he is 40 feet above you outside of the cavern.

I actually wasn't able to heal you, remember that your first action was going to be to climb down, but you're down OUTSIDE the hole.

It's a new character and you wouldn't have dropped out of rage mid-fight knowing that you were going to pass out. I'll let you ret-con this once so that you can consume your potion and remain conscious.

Thervold casts a detect magic spell down the tunnel ahead of him.

Alric gets up and moves to the entrance of the tunnel area. Ceasing to focus on maintaining the illusion. [/ooc]3 rounds till fade away[/ooc]


Edelle suggests that the group take refuge down into the tunnel, and Alric moves to the entrance next to Thervold. Thervold begins to scan down into the tunnel. The entire area is alight with magic auras of various schools. This all occurs over the noise that pervades the area. Edelle is uncertain if everyone has heard her, but the group looks to be all of the same mind.
The abishai and the giants continue combat. each side loses one of their own, and the devils are beginning to pay closer attention to your group again. One devil swoops in to attack the distracted Thervold, stinging him with a tail barb 5 damage and 1 Strength Damage
Teriwyth stands by with a healing spell prepared as Guthar begins his descent. He attempts to stay out of the way of the combat, and they ignore him for now. Guthar drinks his potion and manages to tie off the rope this round.

Delay


Edelle comes into the tunnel while inflicting some damage on the abishai as she passes. Her first two attacks hit, but the others do not. She notes that the creature's wounds crackle like the flames of a fire, and begin to reseal.
Alric waits a moment, choosing to hold back on attacking until it is absolutely necessary.
Thervold casts his spell next to the devil, provoking an attack of opportunity, but the creature instead hits one of Thervold's mirror images. Once invisible, Thervold retreats further into the tunnel.
Three of the abishai attack the cornered giant together, making quick work of him. The giant is almost down, but the brute still has one more mighty swing left in him. The green and red devils have focuses in on your party and they begin to attack Alric. The red devil's stinger and two claws hit him. 19 damage, 4 of which is fire The green devil is less successful, only managing to bite Alric. 2 DMG
Teriwynth decides to wait for Guthar on the other side of the cavern. He glides along the crystaline floor like ice. He is less graceful than he would like to be, but the green abishai is too focused on trying to hit Thervold as he disappears.
Guthar continues his descent, making decent progress. He is half way down, and the consideration of dropping the remaining distance comes into his mind. It would only be about twenty feet by his estimation.
The last giant standing unleashes a powerful shout that reverberates through the chamber and down into the tunnel. As he swings his club at the Blue Abishai, you can see his mouth foaming. Finally, the creature collapses, unable to do anymore, but the blue abishai goes down too, disappearing in a burst of electric energy.

it's not. I believe Alric was referring to a 5ft step around a hard corner.

When Thervold realizes he's gotten ahead of the group, he doubles back and readies a lightning spell for the flyers.


Alric slashes furiously at the red abishai, landing some pretty powerful blows, but the abishai is not ready to return to its own realm just yet.
Thervold prepares an attack in his invisible state in case Guthar has any further trouble getting to the group.

The devils at the giants are content to remain there for now. The red devil returns the full attack against Alric after landing. It sinks in with a claw and a bite. 8 dmg It looks like a scorpion in the way that it holds its tail poised. The green devil similarly attacks, but it targets Teriwyth. This one stings Terri with his barbed tail and follows up with a claw attack 8dmg +2 STR dmg
Teriwyth steps back to allow his martially proficient companion in, but not before launching his rapier at the devil using hand of the apprentice. He hits, but does not seem to harm the outsider.
Guthar finally slides down to the cavern floor, and he is fortunate enough that the carriage blocks the view of his descent. He has a path now straight to the carriage, or into the tunnel. As he approaches, he notes the damage that Bruno the horse has taken both from the giant and from the fall.

Alric performs another full attack against the red devil, missing each strike. He continues to step back into the tunnel.
Thervold, not wanting to fry his allies with lightning, continues to wait for an opening where he can safely fire his lightning bolt.
The devils continue their assault. The frying smell of wounds tells you that the red abishai is slowly mending itself. Perhaps this draws focus enough away from his assault that the devil only hits Alric twice. 5 damage . The green devil is much more successful as Terry's defenses against such attacks are limited. The stinger of the green devil's tail saps Teri's strength as it tears at his flesh, and the creature's claws are no more forgiving. 4 more strength damage, and 10 more HP damage
Terry returns fire, using inspiration from the crystal caves. He steps back and scrapes his hand along the cavern wall, peeling off chunks of crystal which form into sharp shards and spray the abishai at his direction. The devil is unprepared for this attack and takes full damage.
On Edelle's turn, she steps up to attack the weakened abishai, with the dice finally on her side, she brings down the red devils with her first swing and then focuses on the green devil to clear the way for Guthar. She hits on almost every strike, her graceful movement almost dance-like. The green and the red abishai vanish into the ether with bursting smoke of their respective colours.
Seeing the opening, Guthar runs up to the rest of the group, preparing to have his mount charge into the tunnel and plug it with the carriage.
Thervolds sees an opportunity to aid and runs up to the group with another spell in mind. He taps Alric and gestures for him to stay put, signalling to Guthar to come closer. The rest of the Abishai move in to the tunnel, apparently having seen Guthar crossing the cavern. When they come, they move adjacent to the group and sniff around confused, as though they can't see the potential meals before them. Thervold gestures for the group to quietly move back. as the abishai begin to inspect the carriage. Finally, with everyone in position, Guthar calls for Bruno to come running into the tunnel. The horse obeys instantly and comes toward the group from a distance, with the devils in hot pursuit. With a loud crash, Bruno's carriage impacts the walls of the tunnel and the carriage forms an effective barrier. Unfortunately, the damage from the impact was enough to finish off the horse. The group is now safe from the abishai, but it appears that the only way out is further in...

Thervold brings out a handkerchief and wipes dirt off his face as he starts moving back deeper down the passage.

Im curious how you intend to collect. Alric quips as he kicks a blood stained crystal with his boot.


The group collects their equipment and moves further underground, leaving behind the cart and the devils that wait there, feeding on the giant's flesh. The crystals seem to be reflecting light from a distant source and everything is covered in a soft glow. Teriwynth conversed with his companion

Feliss:
"This is the place. I am sure of it now. Something powerful is here. Chaotic, powerful, and something sinister. "

With the battle and the wind left behind, and with the humming of the hills surrounding you, your conversations bounce off the wall and seem to meld with the ambient noise. After a time you hear something distant like a call and answer.

The Sound

The sound is almost hypnotic. I agree. Lets rest here until all is healed. Can your "friend" sense anymore of what is ahead?


The group settles in to rest. The ambient light of the crystals dim as well, down to a gentle glow. The cavern is surprisingly warm and the crystal though hard, are comfortable and inviting. Feliss is unable to deliver any more information other than his certainty that something powerful lies within.

What's everybody at hit point wise? Before we rest it would be a really good idea to heal up. Not sure what the charges are at but I burned two off of Alric's Cure Moderate wand last fight.

Rubbing my hands together I apply the heat to my injuries and heal all but the last of my bruises. no ki left till I wake

woops applied to much ear plug bonus, my save should only be 31, but I think that'll still save :)
