Okay, bottom line. Do we check out the book or the animals?

"Should we split up, see what we can find and reconvene at high noon? As I understand it the people residing in that church didn't really like some of us."

male Halfling rogue 6

I would say lets go after the animals. The way those folks in the church were acting they almost seemed dangerous to themselves. Maybe me and Wyth could go back in there some time and we can try again. I dont think they would be welcoming casvian anytime soon though.

Male Human 59/66 hp Ranger(guide variant) 6

"I think those of you who did not make a bad impression should try to look at the book. The rest of us could post up outside the church in case trouble shows up."

Female Human Monk 7

I'm wondering if we should bait the monsters to come to us tonight? Maybe by tying up a farm animal out the front of the pub

Male Human 59/66 hp Ranger(guide variant) 6

"Even if we kill them more will probably come. Tracking them back to the source may work though. I am hoping the man beast shows up."

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

Who do we think can go to the book? Id say exactly two of us should go, Teriwyth and one other, While Casivan and the other two look into the Animals. The book group can rejoin when they're done.

"Very well then, good luck. Whoever's coming with me let's be off, we should be able to return within the hour provided they aren't overly difficult."

Head back to the church with the crystal tomb guy. Gonna osmosize some information. Just saying, I go into the church ready for a fight, I'm not going to be the one to throw the first punch, but i'll finish the fight if it comes to that.

Teriwynth and Alric decide that they are best suited to the social situation and that they both know the appropriate spell for the situation. They open the double doors to let themselves in, finding the room to be roughly the same as before. There are a handful of refugees and faithful here with some priests attending to them. Jakall is present in the room. He looks at you sternly, and turns to the coffin, as if to tell you that he is watching it. Other than that, he does not approach you, but goes back to his work. The two spellcasters cautiously approach the display of the deceased diviner. He is set to clutch the book with a finger holding open a page about three quarters of the way through the ink-bent notes. The front cover faces the sky with the back pages against his chest.

How many times are you casting information osmosis, and on which pages of the book?

Sumatek, Casvian and Edelle set out to track the beasts. It is simple enough to rediscover the signs of the animals just out of town to the west. The three wait until Alric and Teriwynth return to move too far out of town. Perception and survival

Male Human 59/66 hp Ranger(guide variant) 6

perception:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
survival:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 I added the +2 for tracking. If this is not for tracking then it is +9 instead of +11.

male Halfling rogue 6

Sumatek does his best to help the group following the tracks survival 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

He attempts to keep to the shadows while searching as well in case of a surprise visit from the beast-man or his dogs. stealth 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21 perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Casvian Leads the group toward the edge of town following signs from the beasts. He is the first to notice that as the sun goes down over the western mountains, there is a mass of moving life emerging from a distant cave. From this distance, it is hard to make out details, but there are many four legged beasts spreading out, with one creature in particular standing tall above the rest. They are moving slowly, using the sunset to their back to provide stealth. This is a strategy not normally expected by creatures with as little intelligence as animals. In any case, this is a set of beasts moving into town that you are observing.

I have two Osmosis spells prepared, going to do this page

Magnu123 wrote:

I can't really see any other pages so just pick one at random

Teriwynth casts his spell, trying not to look like he's casting a spell at a coffin, as that may send the wrong impression.

Teriwynth:
You are immediately taken back to a moment roughly a year ago. You can feel a quill in your hand as you write, you feel a sense of contentment and a little bit of pride in your abilities. You write "Day 23, Year One -

As we look up into the sky, we often see the stormclouds coming in the distance. They frighten us because we fear the storm, but we must remember that the storms bring precious water and life. To watch the storm is beautiful. To experience the storm, to understand it, that is heavenly.

As you come to from your trance, you realize almost no time has passed, but that the information you gained is now a part of you. Still, it seemed so real. You have to look at your hand for a moment to check that it is indeed yourself and that you do not have a quill in your hand. Unsure where to target next, you pick a page roughly three quarters of the way into the book. Again, you are taken back. This time, however, it is much more recent, and the emotion you feel is an agitated one.

"Day 5, Year Zero-
With the week coming to a close, we reflect. A young miss Here, the words "Young Miss Baldhammer" are written, then scratched out to be illegible. is quite upset that her cat has run away. She claims that a monster stole it. This makes me wonder if we create our own monsters when things don't go our own way. If we let these monsters consume us, do we become monsters ourselves? At what point does the victim become the bully? So many questions. Questions cause us fear if they sit to fester without answers. Like a moulding bread to a starving beggar, the right parts can still provide nourishment and life, the wrong can prolong our suffering and make our lives miserable.

Male Half-Elf Bard 1/Wizard 6

Teriwyth pauses, as if to say something but suddenly stops. Looking over to the priest who is undoubtedly watching him like a hawk, Teriwyth acknowledges him with a nod and turns around, gesturing for Alric to follow him.

Once they're outside Teriwyth will exhale a held breath. "You never get used to that feeling..."

Is the one that is "standing tall" on two legs or just bigger?

It is difficult to tell from this distance, but it appears to be walking on fours in the same way as would a Gorilla. The torso is nearly upright, but four limbs are still used in locomotion.

male Halfling rogue 6

When Casvian spots the group of animals coming into town Sumatek comes closer to the group.

should we head back to find the others before nightfall our strength is in our number. Maybe they got some info from the glassed corpse?

sumatek stays near the others and shadows them weapons drawn and ready.

stealth 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20
perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

Female Human Monk 7

Yes, lets get back. Maybe we should investigate the cave durring the night when it is empty?

Your two groups rejoin at this moment. It did not take long for Alric and Teriwynth to return from the temple, and the time their detour took up was counter-balanced by Casvian and Sumatek's searching for tracks. You now all stand just on the edge of town, watching this small force of beasts bubbling up from the belly of the earth.

male Halfling rogue 6

Hmm this could get rough. Look at em all. We should set an ambush up near where they are entering town. They are used to the town fleeing from them they wont be expecting it.

Sumatek will start to move toward the beasts to intercept them as they enter town. Using a cross road view point from an alley. He readies his poisoned bolts and crossbow

Female Human Monk 7

What is a mass, a dozen or a dozen dozen? One of them we might be able to handle in small chunks the other should get us slaughtered if there is some intelligence behind it

It is difficult to tell, but It's a force of somewhere between 5 and 20. You can't guess more accurately than that due to the movements of the grass from a natural wind, and the sun in your eyes.

Female Human Monk 7

I vote for a set of small ambushes picking off a few each time if we can. So lets aim for an early intercept

Male Half-Elf Bard 1/Wizard 6

Getting fireball ready...

[ooc] IF your groups wants to defend against the perceived siege, you can go ahead and show me initiative, pick squares on the map, and give me your initial actions (surprise round goes to you). Sumatek can find one barrel, high fence, bench, or other obstruction anywhere he likes to hide behind initially.

Male Human 59/66 hp Ranger(guide variant) 6

If buildings in this world offer roottop access I will go to the roof*. I don't know much about ancient buildings. If they don't then I will hide behind something also. The 1 story building works for me. I assuming they are taking their time and I can get to the roof in time.

*I have no RL knowledge of buildings other than modern ones.

male Halfling rogue 6

Sumatek moves to a chokepoint between to buildings as quickly and quietly as he can stealth 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36 and prepares to fire his handcrossbow when any beasts come into range. He stands on a large barrel to peer over the high fence joining the buildings to see if any are passing ths way. perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

initiative 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

I am still collecting information. I think I have been crossposting into the discussion area. Sorry about that.

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

We all should probably climb something. We can take them out from the roof with range.

Male Half-Elf Bard 1/Wizard 6
Edelle Flexhorn wrote:

"Sorry, I'm not an authority on Combat Tactics. I thought it best for those competent in such matters to make battle plans."

Alric wrote:

"That sounds like a good Idea as any, highground and all"

Female Human Monk 7

Which high ground? We haven't chosen where we are going to run off to an intercept them! I think we should try and intercept them before they reach town and pick a few off. Then attempt to deal with the remainder when they get to town.

You can see no movement in the grass. The sun sets behind the mountains, leaving a blood-red stain on the sky. Your group, for the second time today, faces a disagreement. Anyone without low-light vision cannot see out into the distance where the animals are hiding anymore.

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

We can probably shoot them from the rooftops at the edge of town, or from the tavern's vantage point. As for you Edelle, youre probably fast enough that you could run and jump to any place about here, so it matters less where you start out. I can still see the creatures for now, so Im going to find a way up. I have a spare bow for anyone who can shoot. Casivan, will you be alright in the dark?

Male Half-Elf Bard 1/Wizard 6

Teriwyth shrugs his shoulders and says "I'm not quite as mobile as some of you so I'd rather perform a supporting role from one of the fringe buildings." Teriwyth holds his outstretched hand out to Edelle palm up "I have a smidgen of magic that might aid you if you decide to confront the creatures directly."

Bulls Strength, +4 Enhancement Bonus to Strength, 5 Minute Duration.

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Climbing to K 109
Climb 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Male Human 59/66 hp Ranger(guide variant) 6

My climb sucks. I will try to go inside a building and shoot of out a window on a higher floor. If the second story building has windows at the top I will do that. If not I will hide in the streets.

init:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

stealth if needed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

If there are windows upstairs I will use one of the two story buildings. I prefer the one at L112

I will hide at K 125 if there are no upper level windows.

Female Human Monk 7

Nice chat, good to see we listen to alternative ideas and discuss them. At this rate I'm not sure I'm on your side guys. We need to talk after this . . .
Initiative:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Thanks for that buff Teriwyth, we'll need to chat about strategy later <smiles>
Edelle jumps up onto the roof at Q109, and feels confident at poking animals below her with her Bardiche
Jump: 1d20 + 6 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 12 + 2 = 23
Might need to take a moment to get up there

Sumatek remains hunkered down, waiting for the assault. Alric, Edelle, and Casvian make their way up to vantage points.

Casvian:
That building is unlocked and you can hear a family eating within. You're not prevented from going in, but there may be social implications later. Do you still want to do it?

Alric and Edelle need to try a second time to reach their intended positions.

Teriwynth is the only one who remains out in the open. after delivering Edelle a magical boost. He honestly feels a little exposed. The night remains disturbingly quiet as shadows begin to play tricks on the eyes.

I don't want to do anything illegal or immoral.

I will try other buildings within a reasonable time limit. If I can't get into a building that is not being used I will hide at the spot I indicated before.

I will then cast Longstrider(now while they are still pretty far away. Hopefully those things are not too fast.
I will cast Gravity Bow once they are in attack range.

Female Human Monk 7

Pausing and calming her self Edelle attempt to get up in a much less flashy way, jumping to grab hold of the roof line then pulling her self up:
Jump:1d20 + 6 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 12 = 36
Pull up: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Spoiler:
Ooops jump is Dex based, shouldn't have added the strength bonus last round

male Halfling rogue 6

Waiting in the deepening shadows sumatek pulls the other two poisoned bolts from his pack and lays them nearby to reload after he fires. He peers over the fence and listens intently for any sounds from the beasts
perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 as he waits

I am still stealthed from the previous roll I was updating my perception for the changing amount of light

Has the moon risen yet?

Teriwyth rests his hand on his rapier and looks up at the sky, exhaling deeply he begins going over the incantation in his mind hist to make sure he has it in the right order and prepares to throw fire. He looks out towards the tall grass, scanning for any unfamiliar movement of the four-legged variety.

Sumatek and Teriwynth listen as best they can to the night air for anything out of place. Teriwynth peers out into the darkness, with the sliver of light after a new moon providing almost no help.

Casvian moves to the next building to see if it has been left unoccupied. Fortunately it has been, and the door is unlocked. Casvian makes his way in and up to the second story window. From this vantage point, He cannot see much of the fields, but he is in a good position to deliver cover fire in case of a retreat.

Edelle tries again to get to the rooftop and this time she succeeds easily.

Alric also shimmies up to the second floor of his building and he has a hand on the roof, but he is not yet all the way up.

The night remains eerily quiet. A wind from the sea blows over the town going north. Casvian and Sumatek feel their fingers tighten around their weapons, eager to launch their arrows. Impatient.

Teriwyth looks around aimlessly, his gaze settling on the moon. He begins whispering to himself

Whisper Whisper:
Perform Oratary: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18:

Art thou pale for weariness
Of climbing heaven and gazing on the earth
Wandering companionless
Among the stars that have a different birth

I believe you mentioned that beat and rhythm were never pleasurable to the ears but poetry is valued for different reasons. It would be exempt from the rule correct?

Teriwyth shaken from his daze gazes up at Edelle leaning out the window. He walks in that direction, motioning for a pebble on the ground to float into his hand (Casting Mage Hand), he causes it to come to light (Casting Light) and sends it hovering upwards to Edelle (Once again with magehand).
