Nilah notices that one of the goblins is still breathing. She points to it...

"Khasos! This one is alive and I don't know goblinspeak. Force it to tell us if there are more of them lurking around."

She kneels down next to it, holding her claws near its head and neck, waiting for Khasos to question it.

Tuva continues trying to help deal with the fires.

Wise words, Tyrek

Tyrek:
You notice the two guardsmen lying unconscious near the fallen goblins, though you cannot ascertain their condition as your attention is drawn to the fire which is burning even brighter than it was just minutes ago. You are no stranger to the elemental dance of a burning building however, and you surmise that this blaze must have begun to burn on the outside of the building. It is creeping ever inwards, and you think that with a helping hand or two you may be able to utilise the abundance of snow to fight the blaze. You also recall that most warehouses of this size keep water barrels nearby just in case this exact scenario arises.

Tyrek searches for barrels using his superior intellect: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

You find some water barrels nearby, with pails available to toss water onto the fire. With some help, you're sure you can suppress the fire in a few minutes.

Tuva:
The fire is beginning to burn out of control, but you can see Tyrek is calmly observing the situation.

Tuva Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

You notice a nearby cache of water barrels and pails, a sensible contingency to keep in a warehouse district in case a fire breaks out.

Do we know if there are any occupants of the burning building? Tyrek doesn't really care too much about these peoples' property. He would probably try to save living creatures though.

The short Illuskan gestures by the burning warehouse. "I guess we could use the water there to put out the fire." Tyrek scours about for more goblins with a scowl before his shoulders slump and he moves over to the water barrels.

You can't tell if there are any further occupants at this point. Because of your high intelligence roll when investigating the fire previously, I'll allow some further information in a spoiler below.

Tyrek:
At first you think that the goblins must have set this fire from the outside of the building. Upon closer inspection, based on the score marks and deformation of the wooden walls of the warehouse you can clearly see that the fire started inside the warehouse. It seems the goblins were blasting their way out (which would explain the rumbling sounds Khasos heard earlier).

"Hey, these two guards are still breathin'!" Griff kneels down and slaps them lightly across the face, trying to wake them up.

Noticing the fire growing out of control, he looks back and forth between the unconscious guards and the blazing warehouse, and decides that preventing the fire from spreading is a higher priority. Running to the fire, he begins to help Tyrek and Tuva put it out.

I'm not sure whether he's strong enough to just pick up a water barrel and start pouring or he needs to find some buckets.

Griff tests the weight of one of the water barrels; it's very heavy. Still, he manages to move one closer to the fire, and after a few minutes you all manage to quell the flames.

The guards are still breathing, though one is looking decidedly worse for wear than the other...

When Griff points out the wounded guards, Tyrek scowls and rolls his eyes at a look from Khasos. "Yeah, yeah..." The small illuskan strides over to the more wounded guard and kneels down next to him. With a deep breath, Tyrek closes his eyes and holds his burn-scarred hands out toward the man...

A gentle warmth flows from one man to the other and the guard's wounds begin to close.

Presuming Nilah got Khasos' attention and he tried to extract some info from the goblin in its language... I'll let him finish up that thread and move on to help with the fire.

Nilah leaves the barely living goblin for now to go help Griff move water barrels closer to the fire. Her frame is not the strongest, but more hands can only help.

Strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 ugh...

The fire has finally died down, leaving the outer walls of the warehouse charred and fragile.

Tyrek and Tuva attend to both of the wounded guards; as the healing magics begin to take effect one of them remains unconscious, though his breathing is clear and strong. The other sits bolt upright.

'Huh? What happened... he mumbles in confusion.

'Oh, the goblins... Thank you for saving me and Bron here. I'm Rieg, one of the harbour guards. Me and Bron were just doing our rounds when all of a sudden this wall exploded and these bastards jumped out. We probably would have died if you hadn't come along...' he says appreciatively.

Griff's eyes light up at the thought of having town guards in his debt."Yer right, you could'a been in a lot o' trouble if we didn't come help. That's gotta be good fer a round o' drinks or two, right?" He licks his lips in anticipation.

He "accidentally" kicks the last goblin as he walks by, then stops suddenly. "Wait, you said they jumped out from inside the building? Maybe we should go check in there to see what they were up to." Looking over to Khasos, he asks, "You can understand him right? What does he have to say about it? And who is that Volgnslug guy or whatever his name is?"

As he's asking these questions, he begins roughly going through the goblins' pockets looking for anything worth taking.

'We've had plenty of strife with goblins lately, but mostly small gangs harassing the Palisades up outside the town proper. This is the first lot we've had down here in the harbour. Makes my guts churn just thinking about how they made their way in down here...
He speaks with a quivering voice. Rieg appears to be only young, maybe 18 winters old. His lanky arms and ill-fitted armour imply that he's not much of a warrior, and his pale face and wide eyes accentuate the fact that he is no veteran.

'Youre thinking of ale at a time like this... Of course, a few drinks is the least I can do to repay your kindness.' he stutters to Griff.

The goblin begins to groan and mumble as it regains consciousness...

Nilah remembers it and returns to its side. "Do you understand the common tongue, you wretched little nuisance? Your friends are dead so you get to answer for this destruction and provide us with all relevant information about your kinds' operations in the area."

She spares no anger in her demeanor.

Tuva says, "This guardsman needs medical care. We should get him out of the snow."

'Thanks for the offer Miss, but don't you worry about me 'n Bron. I'll drag him back to the barracks and get him looked after. You could do me a favour though... I mean, another favour. You've already helped me more'n I ever could've asked...' says Rieg as he stands up and brushes the snow off his clothes.

'Look, I'm gonna level with you. I barely know how to swing this spear, and when those goblins got the jump on us I thought I was done for. I'm supposed to investigate any strange happenings on the docks; this sure as hells counts as a strange happening but I'm all shook up 'n the thought of finding any more of these critters in that warehouse scares the life outta me. You lot look more'n capable of handlin' yourselves, reckon you could do it for me? The cap'n would be much more gracious in letting me off the hook if I told him I got one of the mercenary companies to take a look while I made sure Bron was ok. Please?' He stammers, tears welling up in his green eyes. In this moment you see him for what he really is; a scared boy trying his best to do what's right for his home.

As the goblin stirs, Khasos begins to question it in it's native tongue. His stern demeanor obviously frightens the creature, and after a few minutes of conversation the half orc turns to the rest of the group.

'I didn't get much out of him. He tells me his name is Chiglet, and that he is part of a small contingent of scouts who have made their way into the docks. There are four others; Vghotan is their leader and he is awaiting the return of these three underneath the warehouse basement. It seems they are accomplished sappers, and have utilised a network of old caves to mine their way into the harbour district.'
says Khasos, a look of concern etched upon his face.

"All right... but stay together!" says Tuva. "I am no warrior... someone with a blade or bow should take the lead."

I'm assuming that you guys bound Chiglet so that he can't run away. Are you taking him with you, or leaving him for Rieg to escort to the barracks? Bear in mind that the young guardsman will have his hands full with his wounded companion, Chiglet may take the opportunity to escape...

Anyways, this part is for Tyrek and Griff:

As you enter the warehouse, it is obvious that the goblins have been excessively thorough in their inspection of the stores here. Barrels and crates are torn open and turned over, spilling precious winter foodstores all over the floor. You note that the creatures have been sampling the goods they found here; a number of pieces of half-chewed dried meats and fruits litter the ground. As you carefully search the building for clues, you discover a few items of interest.

You finally reach the massive wooden trapdoor which leads to the cellar, only to find it has been splintered from an explosion coming form inside. The stairs leading down into the darkness are scorched, yet still sturdy enough to support your weight. Moving with stealth, you both make your way down into the darkness. The rear wall of the cellar bears the same marks as the trapdoor upstairs, and you smell freshly burnt black powder combined with a musty, earthen scent. The cavern awaits, and you quiver with nervous anticipation at the thought of facing the goblin captain.

Griff Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Tyrek Stealth: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (19) - 4 = 15

(Among the wreckage of the warehouse, you discover a first aid crate with two potions clearly marked as healing elixirs (Potion of Cure Light Wounds x 2). You also find a number of weapon racks with longspears and stout wooden clubs, if you wish to claim one.)

For Tuva, Nilah, Khasos and Thadaenn:

Farewelling your two companions, you set off to patrol the harbor district. The snowfall has begun to falter, and the clouds have parted to allow the moon to share it's pale light. As you move to the east, away from the shoreline, you are mortified to discover another pair of guardsmen. These two had no heroes; deep slash wounds cover their bodies and the snow upon which they lay is stained a deep red. A jumble of bloody goblin footprints lead further to the east, and you follow with renewed haste.

As you enter the south eastern quarter of the harbor, your first sight is that of a great wooden ship. It appears to have been recently shored, and sections of it's hull seem to have been hastily removed. You hear a commotion coming from the opposite side of the ship; a mixture of yelping goblin voices and harsh dwarven insults.

"Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!

Tyrek will carry the goblin with him, tied up... in both hands...

Warehouse:
Tyrek quickly sifts through the stuff, claiming only the potions and offering one to Griff. Once they head into the tunnels, the illuskan follows Griff's lead. Tyrek is quiet, but confident.

I'll put any loot we pick up on my profile under party loot. We should probably give the second potion to Nilah later.

As Tyrek looks through the crates, Griff casually leans on a longspear and munches on an apple he had picked up from those strewn about the floor. Taking the proffered potion, he nods his thanks and slips it into a pocket. "This could come in handy later. Never know when the little bastards might get in a lucky shot."

Peering into the darkness of the cavern, he motions for Tyrek to get behind him. "Stay back a bit, I can see better'n you in the dark down here. Maybe if it hears me stumblin' around it won't notice you as much." He tosses the half-eaten apple aside and takes a few experimental stabs and sweeps with the longspear before shaking his head and dropping that too. Creeping into the cavern, he tries his best to stay quiet and unseen.

Griff doesn't take any of the weapons either, just the potion Tyrek hands to him.

Initiative GM: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Tyrek and Griff:

As you venture a short way into the cavern, the scent of freshly tilled earth is ever so slightly overpowered by what can only be described as the smell of rotten meat and wet dog. You press forward, and after a few minutes the tight space opens up into a tunnel more appropriately sized for creatures such as yourselves.

After what feels like an eternity, the source of the disgusting smell becomes violently apparent. A set of stained yellow teeth flash out from the tunnel ahead, belonging to a creature resembling a mixture of a large rat and a mangy hound. The beast snaps at Griff, who deflects the sudden attack with ease before adopting a combat posture.

Almost simultaneously, an arrow flies out from the darkness and strikes Tyrek, bouncing harmlessly off his scale armour. A guttural voice can be heard coming from up ahead; though you don't speak the goblin language it is plain to hear that it's some kind of threat.

-You currently stand in a 30x30ft cavern
-Griff has taken point, standing at the opening to the next set of tunnels (a 10ft wide doorway if you will)
-Griff is in melee with the goblin dog, who stands just inside the 10ft opening.
-Tyrek is 10 ft behind Griff and can move past, provoking an attack of opportunity. Alternatively, you can move adjacent to Griff and use burning hands without catching him in the flames.
-Griff can cast a spell of the punch-o-mancy school on the dog.

Nilah, Tuva, Thadaenn and Khasos:

As you rush around to the far side of the boat, you find your quarry. Three goblins, covered in the fresh blood of the slain guardsmen, have cornered an ancient looking Dwarf up against the hull of the boat. His bald, wrinkled head bears a deep gash and the blood running down his face has stained his bushy white eyebrows. His beard is a wild tangle the color of fresh snow, and you can tell by the fierceness in his eyes that there is still a little fight left in him. He brandishes a heavy hammer, and though he swings with fury it is obvious that he is beginning to tire.

-You all stand at the rear end of the boat, 20 ft from where the goblins are fighting the dwarf.
-The dwarf has his back to the hull, and there is a goblin to his front, left and right.
-A 20ft move will take you into melee range of the Goblin on his left (#1)
-A 25ft move will take you into contact with the Goblin to his front (#2)
-A 40ft move will take you into contact with the Goblin to his right (#3) while avoiding an attack of opportunity. This move can be done in 30ft, but will provoke an AOO.

Go go gadget Tuva! I'll bot Khasos after you take your action if he isn't back yet.

I think punch-o-mancy is the solution here. Let's focus on that.

Griff's fist connects with a sickening crunch, displacing the doglike creature's jaw as it collapses instantly. Up ahead, he notices a dark silhouette raising a small bow. The goblin fires another arrow, which Griff deftly sidesteps. Tyrek, still blind in the darkness, sees nothing.

What a punch! The dog is down, and Griff can see Vghotan standing 40ft down the tunnel ahead. You're up, G-man

Khasos raises his crossbow briefly. "I can't get a clear shot." he mutters, instead stepping forth to begin chanting a hex. The goblin standing in front of the dwarf begins to burn with a silver light, the same light which now burns in Khasos' eyes. Charge attack on Vghotan. I have my standard +5 from BAB and Str, +1 weapon focus, -1 power attack, +1 Bless, +2 charge for a final attack bonus of +8. Damage is 1d6+5, +2 PA.

His hands move quickly as he unsheathes a sword and drives it up into your thigh with two hands. Cold steel bites your flesh, and you feel a pain unlike any you've ever felt before. Stars blink across your vision momentarily, and as you shake them away you see Vghotan lick your blood from his blade with a wicked grin.

Div-Spawn Eldritch Scion 5 | hp 33 | AC 18 t14 ff14 | F+5 R+5 W+4 | init+4 | Perc+0

Nilah carefully, but quickly takes the shortest distance to threaten the closest goblin. (goblin #1). She draws her scimitar and prepares to strike it down.

Movement 20', draw weapon (move action). I believe that's my turn.

Nilah, Tuva, Thadaenn and Khasos:
Thadaenn steps forward and begins an incantation. As the spell completes, the goblin standing in front of Nilah drops its weapon as a thick layer of grease drips from the hilt down onto its clawed hands.

Without pause, the creature strikes out at Nilah, scratching at her face with filthy claws. The wounds sting, though not enough to distract the determined tiefling. She retaliates swiftly, slashing deeply at her foe and catching it fair across the chest.

The remaining two goblins strike out at the old dwarf, opening fresh cuts across his wrinkled forearms.

Tuva, your move. Thadaenn has moved 15ft toward the combat, but you're still clear to close in if you choose.

M Hill dwarf Fighter2/Expert2

This part is for Nilah, Tuva, Thadaenn and Khasos

"Is that the best ye can do, ye filthy sargh?! I'll have yer guts fer garters, ye motherless coxfithers!"

The old dwarf roars in defiance as his mighty hammer swings toward the goblin to his front. It is clear to see that he is tiring, and the blood dripping down his forehead is impairing his probably already poor vision.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Tuva raises one arm and her pet raven hops out onto it. The raven flaps its wings and looks indignant, then turns and quite clearly says to her, "What, that one?" She nods and the raven sighs.

Activating ward hex on Nilah, giving her +2 AC until she's hit again.

Khasos continues to chant, his deep voice resonating through the air. The same goblin who suffered the effects of his hex now raises its hands, rubbing furiously at its eyes as small motes of starlight appear just in front of its face.

Khasos used his stardust ability on Goblin #2. You're up Nilah, I'll post an action for Thadaenn after yours.

Nilah watches as the goblin in front of her lights up like a candle. It gets a concerned look on its face, as it realizes it has become a glowing target.

She smirks, and immediately seizes the opportunity to strike at it..

Scimitar attack, goblin #2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

AC 19 (Touch 13, Flatfooted 16) | HP 12/12 | Martial Flexibility 3/4 | Fort 5, Ref 6, Will 3 | Init 3, Perception 5
Attacks:
Unarmed Strike: Atk +5, Dmg 1d6+5, crit x2, blunt or piercing (because of cestus)

Griff roars in pain as the sword slices into his thigh. Shaking his head as if refusing to feel the pain, he brings his voice down to a low growl. He realizes he can't take another hit like that and puts all his strength into one powerful blow, attempting to bring down the goblin before it attacks again.

Power attack again. (next level I'll get less repetitive, I promise :) )

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Active Modifiers:
Bless: +1 attack, saves vs fear (8 rounds left)
Power Attack: -1 attack, +2 damage
Weapon Focus(unarmed): +1 attack (from flexibility, 7 rounds left)

GM dice rolls:

Goblin #2 Attack vs. Nilah: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Goblin #3 attack vs. Jorun: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Goblin #3 damage vs. Jorun: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Tuvah, Nilah, Thadaenn and Khasos:

Nilah, the goblin you've already damaged is #1. I'm going to assume your previous attack was against him, as you didn't move the 5ft across to strike at #2.

Tuva's raven soars across to Nilah, landing on her back briefly to share the witches ward. Nilah's armour is sheathed in a shimmer, faint white light as the protective magic takes hold.

Nilah reverses the direction of her previous slash, returning her blade to cut deep into the goblin's chest. Its eyes widen momentarily before is collapses into a heap.

Thadaenn begins to move around to the far side of the injured dwarf in an effort to position himself better for another spell.

The goblin which is under the effects of Khasos curse turns toward Nilah, squinting as it struggles to see the swift, graceful movements of the nimble tiefling. It swings wildly, an attack which Nilah dodges with expertise.

The dwarf has no such luck. The remaining goblin easily slips it's jagged blade deep into his shoulder, rendering his right arm useless.

Tuva, you're up again. Nilah, you killed Goblin #1, and #2 has stepped into melee with you.
Goblin #3 is still fighting the dwarf, and a 30ft move into combat with him no longer provokes an AOO.

Griff and Tyrek:

And one punch man has returned!
Channeling the pain into fury, Griff unleashes a mighty punch. He connects fair on Vghotan's nose, crumpling his cheekbones and splitting skin. All that remains of the once-snide expression on Wghotan's face is a bloody mess. Vghotan collapses.

The next part is assuming you search the goblin corpse, and the rest of the cavern. Feel free to outline any further action you'd like to take before heading back up top.

Griff Know(local): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
A thorough search of the cavern reveals much. Griff experiences what can only be described as a moment of clarity, as he recalls a detailed conversation he overheard at the Salty Dog regarding the harbor district (how he remembered such information is bewildering, as he can also recall throwing up in his own boots that night due to his excessive consumption of alcohol). Long ago, Targosian pirates and smugglers excavated a network of caverns which began underneath the harbor and allowed for travel through the surrounding cliffs out through to the wilds north of the city. Though Lord Ulbrec had the tunnels collapsed some years ago, it seems that the goblins were able to utilize what was left of the warrens to burrow into town. A further inspection reveals that the small tunnels the creatures must have used to access the city have caved in; the dust in the air, coupled with the fresh goblin bodies which were crushed in the rockfall confirms your thoughts that this must have happened within the last few hours.

Searching Vghotan, you find a few items of interest. His sword seems as though it was forged for hands larger than those of a goblin. The flat, pointless tip and intricate engravings on the blade betray it's heritage; this weapon is obviously of dwarven make. The goblin also carries a crude map of Targo, and a strange scroll of rolled vellum. The scroll smells of brimstone, and is warm to the touch. Strange markings adorn it's surface, a language neither of you are familiar with. Finally, you find a small pouch containing a handful of precious gems.

You find a masterwork dwarven shortsword, strange scroll, crude map and Gem value: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 2, 2) = 16gp worth of gems
