"The options I had been considering were wagon pulled by two or three horses, buy an exotic mount big enough for me, or simply go without mounts, I hadn't considered having you mounted and myself not be, the idea has merit, but I don't think it's a good one given your lack of experience" using his astral skin armor form Marco has a land speed of 45, swim speed of 75, your option is workable, and if you want to make frequent untrained ride checks Marco could be persuaded.

Marco frowns, realizing he will be the one to slow them down, but sucks it up realizing that while probably not as comfortable a trip, he would likely be faster and definitely more manuverable without a cart, "very well, I suppose it will be I who slows down the group then, I will try not to hold up the group too much,
also going to swap one of my one point customizations for cold resist 5, because he'd be slithering along in the merfolk equilivant of being barefooted, I don't care if there's no mechanical penalty, it woldn't be comfortable, so he alievieates the discomfort
As a note, at 45 feet per round to the horse's 50 I won't be slowing us down much
And DM: since I'm using my astral suit form to keep up with the horses, I'm going to need stats for the guild armor, from descriptions I'm assuming masterwork parade armor yes?
Marco Theseus Cain |
"Once he gets a horse yes"
Marco Theseus Cain |
Marco follows the two of them to the stables.

"I am Marco Thesus Cain, this is Zhardron, we are on a mission with Growly to take out a troll threat, we are in need of a valiant steed for our two legged friend here,"
Marco Theseus Cain |
"Tame would probably be best" the mer answers raise ing one eyebrow at the odd turn of phrase.
Marco Theseus Cain |
"She combat trained? It wouldn't do for her to buck at the first sign of trolls, espically not with such an inexpired rider" he pauses and turns to the rider in question "no offence"

Ahem...
so, Eagun gives you a short briefing on the troll problem. Mostly, the trolls seem to stay out of town, because they eat the people who try and kill them. This makes other people mad, and the process repeats. A decent few warriors have been lost to this, but Eagun seems to assume you're more competent.
"So, any questions?"
Marco Theseus Cain |
"May I have a map?"
icehawk333 |
"Ah. Alright. I have no other questions, other than what are the conditions of our success? All trolls dead, only some? Are we to bring back troll ears as proof...?"
"Make sure the townspeople are safe. Dead trolls are the easiest way to do this."
Marco Theseus Cain |
"Unless new trolls show up, it could also hypothetically be arrivistes to incompetence as opposed to deception, either way we need to get going"
Marco Theseus Cain |
Once he gets a map he will leave in the direction it indicates

nothing of terrible importance happens while traveling. Enventually, you find yourself at the foot of a snowy mountain. Looks like you're almost there... The place you're going to must be on the mountain. There's a clear path up, and you eventually make it up, those of you without cold protection quite cold by this point. You come across a small town, only five or so houses, but the path goes on.
are any of you wearing clearly-identifiable torchbearer garb?
Marco Theseus Cain |
Marco is wearing torchbearer armor.
Marco Theseus Cain |
Marco does so.
icehawk333 |
The cold doesn't seem to bother Growly.
Draconomicon says dragons don't make saves for hot or cold. He'lol care if it becomes damaging.
Being on Marco's shoulders, he also approaches.
the Draconomicon is 3.5. You still save to save vs cold weather if you're out here too long.
"Torchbearers, it's good to see you're finally here. Come inside, it's warm in here, and I can give you directions around the village."
Marco Theseus Cain |
"Much obliged" he says coming into the building.
Marco Theseus Cain |
I am cold resistant! Barely and even that only temporarily, but still
Marco graciously accepts the offered food, but restrains himself from eating his fill as he questions the man on the particularities of the situation, the locations the trolls frequented, a guess at where they slept and lived, their approximate number, anything the man felt would help.
i figure someone almost twice as large as a standard human would require three to four times as much food, though given that his head, jaws and torso are humanoid (and I don't have a bite attack) , that I usually eat in the same way as a normal person, just more of it. While I'm on the subject, I'm going to say that mer (probably) have two stomachs, with a short intestine like structure connecting them
