Dizzy waited until they were out of earshot from the half-orcs, then asked, "What was that about? I didn't see a woman in a red cloak."

Quinn quietly snorted and shook her head, "If a thief is worth their salt, you won't see them. Unless you know what to look for." That'll teach her for hitting Timothy and mocking me...well that and for trying to take my money. "If I had known that it wouldn't buy us any goodwill with team Zarfu, I wouldn't have put in the effort to give their stuff back."

"Well, at least the Moon challenge isn't far. It's just left out of the market. I wonder what the challenge is?", Jibril gathered his bag and headed toward the moon door.

Perhaps not surprisingly, when they opened the Moon Door, they found a familiar small room with a teleport pad inside of it.

Duncan was dragging his feet, "So..., you..., I mean we..., we're doing this again right? Don't we have enough tiles already?"

He sighed when all eyes were on him, "OK, OK, let's get this over with."

Holding hands, they said the magic words. The room around them faded away, and was replaced by the reek of a bog, and stars overhead. As their eyes adjusted, they saw that they were standing on a sturdy wooden raft, with the teleport symbol painted on it. All around them was a strange, murky swamp. Tall trees towered overhead, with vines, or roots, or some combination reaching back into the water. Clumps of strange vegetation seemed to move in the dim light...or was that just the movement of the water?

Mist rose in thin fingers over the cooling water, catching bits of yellow light that came from....where? Fireflies, perhaps, or foxfire? Occasional flashes of light were almost certainly eyeshine, but they couldn't see from what.

Through the vegetation over head, they could see the pinpricks of stars, and a brighter light fighting its way through the leaves to the east. A full moon was rising.

Their raft seemed to be anchored to the ground below the water, however deep down that was. Tied to a rusting metal ring on one side was a flat-bottomed wooden boat, with two oars stored inside.

Rex reacted to the smell initially upon arriving, his face scrunching. However, he quickly adapted to it. I've smelled worse...I suppose. He looked to the others. "So, I guess the goal is to row this bad boy somewhere?" He pointed towards the moon, "That way, if I had to guess with no information..."

Dizzy stared in wonder at the lush, spooky marsh around them. There seemed to be no shortage of life around - she wondered how much of it was dangerous.

Eyeing the small boat warily, she said, "I have no skill with water craft, and in this armour, will sink like a stone if we go over. I hope you have some skill."

Rex scratched his head and looked at the boat. He also had never really rowed before. However, he knew some of the slaves who were strong, but not wanted by the coliseum, went to galleys to row boats. So, he shrugged. "I guess, how hard can it be? Maybe just try staying to the center if you are worried about your armor being to heavy." Carefully, Rex climbed onto the boat, then offered out a hand for the others.

Jibril waited for Dizzy to move to a place she seemed most comfortable and tried to haul up the anchor, "Towards the moon seems like good wisdom Rex. Watch for eddies, they could mean stones just beneath the surface. Stay as far from large trees as possible. We may be able to avoid the worst of the roots." Jibril then shot one of his durable arrows into the middle of the raft deck. "Something to hold onto. It's quite strong." He layed his bow next to him, stuck in three durable arrows softly near it, and grabbed an oar.

Quinn's nose wrinkled in disgust at the smell. This place definitely reminded her that she was a city girl who didn't like being so up close and personal with nature. Especially with the stench and the bugs.

Rex grabbed the other oar, "As you wish, m'lady.." he said with a chuckle to Quinn.

Team Orra made their way into the swamp boat without incident. Dizzy stayed in the middle, holding on to Jibril's arrow. Her concern about sinking was well-warranted, and she stayed as safe as she could.

With Jibril and Rex on the oars, Quinn in the prow and Duncan in the stern, they paddled slowly towards the moonrise. The trees slid silently by as their boat moved easily through the water. At times the foliage ahead was too dense to allow light to penetrate, but then they'd pass by a particularly large tree and get a fine view of the slowly rising moon.

Quinn didn't like how dark it was. It's not like whatever was lurking didn't know they were there already. She pulled out her ioun torch and sent it into orbit around her head.

As the torch cast light and shadow, something caught Quinn's eye. At first she figured it was a dead log floating in the water and nothing to be concerned about. But there was something odd about it that put the rogue on edge. Then she realized what it was. It was moving towards them with purpose. It was going to ram them!

"Brace yourselves! There's something in the water and it's coming towards the boat." Quinn pointed in its direction. "Anyone know what that is?" She was already pulling out her crossbow and loading it.

Jibril moved in a big circle: at nine o'clock he hauled the oar out of the water, at noon he tossed it high over to Rex, at three o'clock he began to crouch low grabbing the first of his stuck arrows, at six o'clock he crouched grabbing his bow, and then back at nine he notched it looking for the wake of some water-bourne creature.

Dizzy clung to Jibril's durable arrow, hoping to stay stable in the middle of the boat. As the others reacted to a threat that she couldn't see, she cautiously rose to her knees, hoping to catch a glimpse of what kind of foe they were facing. "What is it?" she cried.

The "log" certainly did seem to be on an intercept course with the boat. It was roughly nine feet long, and the surface was bumpy and rough. It was impossible to tell colour in the moonlight - even Quinn's wobbling ioun stone did little but shed a little more light on it.

When it was several feet from the boat, Quinn's light flashed on a pair of yellow eyes, the vertical pupils narrowed to slits and pointed their way. It appeared to be a reptile of some type, likely an alligator or crocodile. It realized that it had been noticed.

Meanwhile, Duncan noticed a small island on the other side of the boat. It appeared to be larger than most of the squishy hummocks of land that they'd seen so far. It was covered with sharp-looking reeds and thorny bushes. The island was at least forty feet in diameter, and was about sixty feet away from the boat.

Dizzy leaned forward and placed one hand on Rex's bulging biceps, as he rowed hard towards the thin safety of the island. Placing her other hand on an stylized bull etched onto her breastplate, she called upon the blessing of the goddess. A rush of strength filled the already muscular man, and he was able to row faster to shore.

Jibril stared at the swimming reptile, trying to figure it out. It was almost like a swamp-croc, but its snout was strangely truncated. And surely those legs looked a bit too long? Hard to tell with it mostly underwater.

Either way, it was clearly a threat, and his arrow struck true. It didn't penetrate far into the tough scaly hide, and stuck up, quivering.

The creature reacted by diving beneath the surface of the murky water. For a few breathless seconds there was silence, except the creaking of the oars as Rex paddled. Then, as some of them were expecting, there was an almighty crash up against the bottom of the boat. The small craft lurched up several feet before crashing down into the water again. Everybody staggered, trying to stay upright. The wood groaned as if in pain, but the boat held together.

The water frothed with bubbled, but there was no sign of the creature.

As the creature crashes into the boat, Rex was so furiously rowing the jolt caused the oar to momentarily slip from his grasp. However, he was just barely able to hold on and stay in an upright position. This only spurred him to keep on rowing, giving barely more than a grunt in response to those giving him words of encouragement.

The summoner was fully distracted by keeping his lights on the island, to help Rex navigate, and didn't have a hand on the boat when the creature struck it. Stumbling hard against the side, his momentum carried him out and over the side.

Duncan cried out as he hit the water, and scrambled to reach for the side of the boat. However, his fancy clothes were not meant for swimming in, and he quickly became entangled in them. Jibril managed to grab his hand, and the helpless human was dragged in Rex's wake for a few seconds. However, even as the boat bumped into the island, Duncan's eyes went wide in pain. He let out a cry of horror, then was pulled from Jibril's grip and under the water.

The water frothed and churned for a moment, then everything was still.

Dizzy leapt towards Jibril, trying to help grab the handsome mage, but it was over too quickly. Heedless of the danger, she almost threw herself in after him, and it was only somebody's hand on her ankle that prevented her from a quick death by drowning.

"Mebbe he's been taken hostage," she said, her voice panicked. "We can get him back, right?"

Team Orra was able to disembark without further difficulty. They pulled the boat completely out of the water, then waited. The waters lay still and silent. The moon continued its steady rise, hidden for the moment by the thick foliage of the trees east of the island.

The island, or islet, was small, squishy, and seemed to be bobbing every so slightly in the water. The ground was a mix of sticky mud and thick, rotted vegetation. A few stunted trees grew near the top, but the reeds and cattails were over six feet high in places.

But part of her couldn't help feeling like the sun had set on their team. But it was okay because she excelled in the dark - at least in the city she did better in the dark. This squishy islet was disgusting.

Hearing the water being slapped, she whirled around and hissed, "What are you doing? That thing isn't necessarily part of the challenge and killing it won't bring Duncan back! We find the token and get out."

Jibril stopped slapping the water for a second and his shoulders fell. Without turning around to face anyone, "Unless the tokens are on this mound we must get back on that raft. At least for Dizzy's sake I'd like to fight that thing on land. If this doesn't work we will have to sneak past it.", then he went back to tying to draw the creature out.

Rex approached Jibril cautiously, "Well, why don't we back away from the water until we figure out what we are doing...If its just an animal it might just move on..." Rex trailed off, not wanting to be insensitive. Now that it's been fed. "It might just move on..."

@GM: Is there anything worth exploring on this island? Or is it just a mound that we can see pretty much the whole thing already?

As Jibril and Rex spoke at the water's edge, Quinn poked around the squishy islet. It certainly seemed to small to hold any surprises. But the vegetation was surprisingly dense in areas, and she had to be careful as she looked around.

After a few minutes of "exploring", Quinn caught sight of movement at the water's edge, on the back side of the island. Her breath catching in her throat, she saw a man, half in and half out of the water, almost completely covered in rotting vegetation. He was unconscious, but she could see the gentle rise and fall of his chest.
