Xerafine: You can detect four faint magical auras somewhere in the area towards the entrance. Well out of your line of sight.
Finnabar: You move quickly down the corridor, passing Jack, Chief Scootscale and Bein. You reach the area where, when you entered there were Kald guards on watch (Y2). The sound of footsteps seems to be coming from the entrance to the Kald lair ahead (Y1) but then stop. As you pursue the shaman, the remaining Kalds move off down the tunnels (to the east), following Scootscale's orders. As you reach the guard area (Y2) you can see Tartuk standing at the junction ahead (where the squares are on the map) waving his arms in what looks like the beginnings of a spell.

Bein doesn't sugar coat it. Too many things didnt add up with the situation. Tartuk was hiding something g from the beginning, lied about the stone man to most likely keep control and urged the kalds into war with the cave livers.
Bein continues to the exit of the cave. Believing the now exposed Tartuk was fleeing l. As he stepped forward he said to the Chief. "To remain in control. To keep you from being the chieftain. He lied about the spirits so that you'd stay fearful and obey him. You were tricked."

So what are you doing Bein? Attacking? Just walking up to join Finn? I need an action.

Apologies
Bein moves forward to catch up with Finnabar, ensuring their leader isn't ambushed by the unseen Tartuk.
Double move if necessary to catch up with Finn.

Jack follows Bein, as the footprints are largely unhelpful.
If he sees Tartuk as he closes in, he nocks another arrow and shoots, as it is quite clear he is hostile at this point.
Hopefully I can get in LOS with one move action. If it takes 2 moves, then ignore the attack. Also, I noticed I had my attack bonus calculated wrong, it is corrected now. If any problems let me know.

Jack moves up to join Finnabar and Bein, followed closely by chief Scootscale. Jack stops and releases an arrow towards the figure of the Kald. The arrow flies forward and strikes him, but the Chief stops with the rest of you and cocks his head quizzically staring at the figure. "You big-people be careful." he says "That is not Tartuk. That is one more magic-picture. He standing on pit-trap. I think he want you to attack magic-picture and fall in."

Jack squints, but as far as he can tell, Tartuk seems quite real. The arrow flies by, and to him, he simply missed. Whether Tartuk is an illusion or not, he does, however, trust the chief to know where pits might be in this area.

Finnabar moves up to the pit trap and the illusion and casts detect magic past it to focus on the corridor leading to the exit and see if there is a magical aura there.
Hymenopterix |
Finn: You see no magical auras in that direction, other than the illusion itself.
Xerafine: You begin making your way around to join the others, maintaining your concentration as you go. Moving fairly quickly (Assuming a double move)]] you come to the turn-off to the main chamber (Y3) [ooc](note that everyone else is at Y2) without seeing an aura.. You can, however, still sense the auras somewhere near the others (out of your line of sight).
At Finnabar's words you suddenly hear a scream of rage from the sectioned-off guard area. As if from nowhere a sudden gout of flame envelopes Finnabar, Jack, Bein and Chief Scootscale and the form of Tartuk materialises 10 ft. behind you pointing a wand in your direction.

Dude, chill, had a busy weekend. Not to mention, "bumping" doesn't actually do anything when you check for new posts from your campaign tab. Sincere apologies for making you wait.

Bein'Meleth Rámalóce |
not sure if i should post this here but here goes.
Finn, the chief and I we have Tartuk hemmed in but if you have a rng attack spell that would be your best bet.
You still have a full 30ft move before you would come up to 5 ft away from Tartuk. I believe you would be behind Finn at at point. Thats how the map appears to me.

Thanks! Unfortunately, no more shuriken and no offensive ranged spells.
Xarafine moves forward towards the battle, but stays out of combat, seeing that stepping into the fray might spoil her companions' chances of dealing a finishing blow to the deceitful shaman.

Seeing the chief fall, Jack waits a moment to be sure no immediate surprises appear, and then lowers his bow. "Let's be sure there are no further false 'spirits' to bother us." He begins looking around the area very carefully--floors, hideyholes, around corners for:

Bein whips his sword, splattering the dead shaman's blood into the dirt floor, before wiping it across a rag and sheathing the blade. He ignored his burns and the smell of burnt cloth as his new tabard burned at the edges. He wiped the soot off his heraldry so that it could stand out clearly as he spoke. "His trechery is no more. The Kalds are free to rule themselves once more under their rightful chieftain." At this he nods to Chief Scootscale.
"What say you Jack is it safe for the tribe to come out of hiding?" As he says this he takes up a defensive position close to the others trusting Jack's keen eyes over his own..

Jack: The traps are clearly defenses put in place by the Kalds and are easy to avoid once you know their location.. Scootscale may not want you to disarm them....
Scootscale smiles with unconcealed glee as the shaman falls. "Tartuk dead now" he says, " and Stone-man broken. Spirits will have no more power of Kalds now! Thanks big people. Many thanks! Scootscales now free of spirits and live good-lives." he's almost hopping with glee. "You stay, I go get rest of Kalds and tell them we free of spirits, then big feast to thank big-people. "Let's do this. But before that, maybe chief Scootscale should free Mikmek and let him join the feast. And if chief Scootscale agrees, I would also want to have a look at Tartuk belongings to see if we can find why he came here."
Jack Ciarathan |
If the traps are clearly the Scootscales', Jack will leave them be.
Jack thanks Xarafine quietly for her healing. "Yes--the question remains, why did Tartuk want to push the kalds into war with the cave-livers? Did not the cave-livers ALSO have some kind of 'spirit' or great being telling them to attack everyone? I think Tartuk may have been part of a larger operation."
Hymenopterix |

Scootscale readily agrees to release Mikmek and the remaining Kalds are quickly gathered and return to the main chamber where they greet the news of Tartuk's demise with joy - The shaman and his "spirits" seem to have been objects of fear much more than of respect or love. As the Kalds gather various foodstuffs Mikmek leads you through to the "Praying-place" and watches as you search through the magic-user's possessions, waiting eagerly until you're finished so that the Kalds can dismantle the shrine and remove all traces of the hated and feared ritual area.

Bein was very pleased with the over all outcome of the conflict. One conniving villian dead and a tribe free to believe as they will again. All and all a success. He aids in the dismantling and removal of the hated shrine, hefting what he could on his shoulder before asking a nearby Kald. "Shall we take it outside and burn it? Show me the way."
Later as Tartuk's mystical gear is being identified he looks to Finnabar and motions to the armor. "Better armor for you milord." He can't help but look intrigued at the amulet's properties are revealed. "I agree that Jack should keep it, however I hope we can make more of this particular item. It would be a decent thing for all of us to have at some point."

As soon as you are finished searching through Tartuk's belongings, several of the Kalds make their way into the room and quickly begin dismantling the shrine and the wooden frame with its disturbing decorations, carting them outside and adding them to the slowly growing bonfire around which many of the remaining Kalds are seated preparing food whilst the juveniles run around playing. It seems like a weight has been lifted from the tribe. Where before they seemed morose and troubled the air now seems open and happy.
Soon several Kalds return from a trip gathering food, bringing wight them various root-vegetables of some type, eggs, some fish and even a few small dead animals. The various items are quickly prepared and, as dusk descends, the smell of roasting meet and vegetables fills the clearing in front of the cave. Although they still seem a little intimidated by you, as you wait for the food several of the small Kalds approach, nervously touching your clothes, your hair and the horses, seemingly especially curious about the hair growing from your heads. Often they approach slowly touch you, and then run off nervously when you turn to look.
Soon Scootscale himself emerges from the cave with a large smile and carrying several leather water-skins. "Here. Drink." he says with a big smile, taking a gulp from one of the containers. "whilst feast being made ready we talk, yes? We talk about Scootscale land and big-people land. I think maybe Scootscales and big-people will be friends, yes? You big people have nice-things, but we Scootscales have nice-things also. Scootscales and big-people be happier if we share nice-things. Yes? You tell me what big-people wanting in this-place? You telling me why so many big-people coming and digging and making wood-caves to live in. We eat. We talk. All happy, yes?"

"We would very much like to call the Scootscales our friends," Xarafine replies with a warm smile. "May this be the beginning of prosperity for both our peoples."
