Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Broderus motions his intentions to Treygan at his side and quickly advances at the goblins on the bridge.

Double move to point D-15

Female Human Housewife/1

Round One, Continued

Though the larger goblin appears quite upset at your intrusion on his idyllic pursuits, he rises and brandishes the long spear that was laying beside him, and attacks Broderus. The hit lands and he sneers in goblin as his spear point draws blood.

Goblin Fighter longspear attack vs. Broderus AC 19 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 if he hits he will deal 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage.

Valcrim Goblinbane, your initiative

Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2

As melee is about to be joined, Valcrim drops the crossbow and draws his hammer as he approaches "Lads, keep tha buggers pressed to tha edge, so they cannae maneuver!"

Drop crossbow, free action, move to C-23, draw weapon as second move action

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

So sorry, guys! It is totally my initiative, but for some reason, I thought I was at the bottom of the round. Apologies.

Seiji rattles loose a small vial from his pouch, and springs forward. (Move to C20). He hurls it at the nearest goblin.

Bomb (vs. Touch AC) - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 points of damage to the goblin in C14, and 4 points of damage to the goblin in C13.

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

I forgot to add the damage from Point-Blank Shot and Inspire Courage to that (Bombs count as a weapon attack, according to the Alchemist entry).

That should add +2 damage against both the primary goblin C14 and the secondary goblin C13, but the latter can make a DC 14 Reflex save for half damage.

Summation, 6 damage to both targets, further goblin can make a Reflex save (DC 14) to reduce it.

Round 1

Stats:

HP 11/11
AC16 T8 FF16 CMD14 -2 AC from charge.
F/R/W 4/0/2
Smites 1/1

Treygan charges forward, striking the goblin warrior.

Dice & Actions:

Charge GF, puts me at D15 I believe.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 + 1 - 1 = 12 Charge,Inspire, PA.

Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 11 Inspire, PA.

Female Human Housewife/1

Goblin ref save vs. DC 14 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Round 1, Summary

Having successfully attacked Broderus, the more heavily armored goblin feels quite cocky, but he and perhaps the entire party are surprised when a bomb from Yamamoto Seiji explodes in his face, dealing massive damage. Treygan Gorski charges into the fray, but the shock of this new technique seems to set him off balance as his attack glances off the goblins armor, not penetrating it at all.

Goblin Fighter is currently Staggered

Current Map

Round 2

The lesser goblin, seeing that you have the tactical advantage of portable fire, takes a withdraw action, moving 30 feet away.

Broderus, your initiative

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

His face contorted in rage from being bloodied, Broderus closes in on the goblin fighter and wallops his enemy with all his might.

Broderus
HP 9/12
Special Effects: Inspire Courage (+1 Attack/Damage Rolls)

Move action to C-13
Attack (Longsword) = 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23; If successful, Damage = 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2

Spend round running to move to E-12

Like a boar, the dwarf lumbers past the warriors, his sights on the final goblin "GODS DURN GOBBO MAKIN' ME RUN!? STAND AN' FIGHT, VERMIN!"

Male Halfling Bard 2

I'll stop talking this round at let it linger for two, I'll move forward 20' and take a shot at the runner if I can...

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d4 ⇒ 4

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Since Broderus has since vacated E15, Seiji will move there, then take a move action reloading his crossbow.

Seiji fits another bolt into this crossbow as he hustles across the bridge, eyeing both goblin foes.

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

Treygan will attack the Goblin Fighter if it's still up on his inish. If not, he'll charge the far goblin.

1d20 + 4 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 - 1 = 10 Attack, Inspire and PA; add 2 if charging.

1d6 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 10 Damage, Inspire and PA

Female Human Housewife/1

Wow, pretty sure I intended to post this... maybe it was bizzaro land where I wrote it and it didn't go through...

Round 2, Continued

Broderus's mighty blow fells the goblin fighter where he stands, breaking bones and cleaving flesh in twain despite the creatures heavier armor. It falls with a pained grunt, a goblin curse rolling from his dying lips.

The remaining gobbo as Father Flinthammer, goblinbane, so clearly pointed out is fleeing from your party in abject terror.

The remainder of the team moves forward in their various attempts to end the foul creature's life, but unfortunately, Treygan Gorski's charge is not enough to penetrate his armor.

Round 3

GM Screen:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

The remaining goblin seems to dash for the cover of the brush, and melds with it in his effort to escape.

Perception DC 15:

He's at coordinate C6 and has cover from projectiles.

The green bits are brush and rows AB are considered difficult terrain.

Current Map

Broderus, your initiative

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Perception - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

"In the brush, just off the road!"

I'll wait to see what Broderus and Valcrim do before dictating any action.

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

"Very tricky but not good enough for the eyes of a ranger!"

Broderus quickly pursues the goblin, trying to cut off its escape route.

Double move to C-5

Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

"THAR! IN THA BUSH!" the dwarf hollers and starts circling the bastard to deny it's escape.

Double move to D-5

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

"Confounded brush, where?" Treygan looks for the creature, following Valcrim up. I'd say D6 for me.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8

Male Halfling Bard 2

Joyabraund isn't even going to try to charge after all those tall people. Instead he will stop and look at the goblin bodies and the area around the bridge, I'm just gonna wait here fellas! Too small to run around like that anyhow...

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Cover or not, I'll take the shot. Seiji moves to D9 and fires his crossbow at the goblin.

Clearing the bridge, Seiji falls to one knee and lets loose a bolt at the hiding goblin.

Attack (Crossbow) - 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 4 = 18
If it hits, it deals 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 points of damage.

Female Human Housewife/1

Round 3, Fin

The fierce charge of Broderus, Father Flinthammer, and Treygan Gorski is brought to very little effect as the goblin, despite his best efforts to hide and escape from the previous slaughter, is laid rent by a bolt from Yamamoto Seiji's crossbow.

Combat is now terminated.

Joyabraund, All

In addition to two sets of small leather armor, one set of small studded leather armor, two dog slicers (small short swords), two small short bows, and one small longspear, you find upon the larger goblin's person a ratty scroll, and two potions.

Spellcraft DC 19, or Read Magic:

The scroll is an arcane scroll of Alter Self.

Spellcraft DC 17:

The two potions are of Cure Light Wounds, and Shield.

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Broderus wraps his wound and then exhales a deep breath.

"So the bridge is ours and the enemy vanquished. I think I'm starting to understand your hatred towards these vermin, Valcrim. That one bugger didn't even pull up his pants before firing at us. Disgusting..."

He then looks down at the collection of items Joyabraund gathered together.

"Joya, any luck with that scroll or potions? You know I have no head for magic!"

He finds his hand shaking a bit; stares at it for a few seconds before bringing it down on the hard timbers of the bridge.

Female Human Housewife/1

Also, you can add the goblin's ears to your collection for the inevitable bounty... on the rotting pieces of flesh you're still carrying around in your sack :P

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Seiji holds the potion in the light, examining the liquid swirling within. He turns his attention to the scroll.

Spellcraft (Potion) - 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Spellcraft (Scroll) - 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

"This page contains a spell, 'Alter Self,' which functions much as it sounds." Seiji hands the scroll to Joyabraund. "My guess is that you will make best use of it." Next, Seiji holds up the pair of potions. "One of these will seal our wounds, and the other, will shield us from danger. While these would prove useful to any of us, my thought is that they should go to Broderus, who often moves first into danger, as a scout."

Male Halfling Bard 2

Joyabraund frowns slightly as he takes the scroll. This would have been perfect for our goblin god trick! Bad timing, but what can you do...

Joyabraund paws through the items a second more, Nothing much of value and I prefer mine own gear to any of theirs...

Joya cinches up his bag and moves to leave, Let's go find us some treasure or whatever...and lets see more of that bomb throwing Seiji That was powerful stuff!

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Seiji allows a half-smile. "The mixture is volatile, but I have recently found a stabilizing agent. It keeps it from exploding in flight...or in hand. Yet I could improve it still." His brow twists in concentration for a moment and his eyes drift in thought. He rubs his temple. "But you speak well. We should proceed."

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

"Reasonable suggestions all around. Though I'm curious. Think there might be another camp of goblins out here?" Treygan tries to look for signs of another goblin city as they move.

Male Halfling Bard 2

[b]Oh they're like rats aren't they? I'm sure Valcrim could discuss with us in detail the trouble of truly eradicating goblin's from an area...I would think there isn't another camp for a ways though...sorta territorial aren't they? Tribe wars and such?[/ooc]

Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2
1 person marked this as a favorite.

Valcrim smirks at the halfling "Gobbos be one o' tha most common plagues decent folk has ta deal with. They scurry around until one particularily strong gobbo, or another o' tha goblinoid races, tells them ta follow orders, or die. Then ye get camps an' chiefs like tha one we just stomped out." he explains "I reckon these gobbos be part o' tha same tribe, just out doin' gobbo malarkey."

The dwarf gives Seiji a nod of approval as he passes "Good show, lad. Yer bottled fire be quite tha sight. Made me think o' me forge. Fire an' steel be tha best o' companions, nae?"

Female Human Housewife/1

My amazing husband reminded me when he got up that Shield is a personal spell and cannot be made into a potion, so you have a potion of Shield of Faith instead. Half the bonus to AC, but it still IS a bonus. You also earn 85 experience points

GM Screen:

Encounter Leg 2-1 1d100 ⇒ 38
Encounter Leg 2-2 1d100 ⇒ 31
Encounter Leg 3 1d100 ⇒ 62

The sun continues its slow ascent over the horizon as you ascend back toward the road. It is a warm day, and as the earlier fog promised, incredibly humid as well. You feel about boiling in your various armors as you traverse the rocky cliff face to your destination, looking out along the marsh for any overt sign of danger following you, but see nothing.

You reach the second bridge near lunch, and considering that you watched a goblin pee into the river a little upstream, decide that it is likely better to indulge in your own provisions. Even if this river was not murky, you'd likely wish to stop to boil it several times before you would consider it potable.

GM Screen:

Broderus 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Valcrim 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Seiji 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Joyabraund 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Treygan 1d20 ⇒ 8

Broderus, Valcrim, Joyabraund:
As you are approaching your destination, you see a clearing in the brush line that leads you to believe that the path that you found earlier likely lead this way, and continues further southwest toward point L, but the path to your destination is firm and clear.

If above, Survival DC 11, can take 10:

You note that several of the tracks here belong to what appears to be bipedal humanoids, but... they belong to bones?

Male Halfling Bard 2

He's not THAT amazing if he is robbin us of one of a kind awesome potion goodies! Har! ;p

Joya continues his idle pursuit of the group trying to take in the scene of the adventure for later recounting. Upon reach of the second bride Joya notes a trail, Yeah uh...skeleton feet walk the lesser path? That is bones...of feet...with no flesh, or boots or whatever...they went that way. You god types can kill things like that, yea?

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

"Skeleton feet?" The alarm in Seiji's voice is apparent. "Do the dead walk here?"

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

"I must admit, my own training has not quite advanced to the stage where I can channel the Dawnflower's gifts in quite that manner. Valcrim, how are your own skills?"

Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Survival (Take 10)- 10+5=15

"Yes, Seiji, I'm afraid Joyabraund is right. Here, let me show you."

Still pleased Seiji vouched for him during the distribution of magic items, Broderus waits for the Tian's permission and if granted, takes him by the arm and shows him the bony tracks.

"What does everyone think? Do we continue on to our destination or take a detour to investigate these undead footprints? I personally would like to follow the skeletal tracks."

Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2

Valcrim furrows his brow "Fer fightin' tha dead, dwarves rely more on 'ammers than holy energies. But aye, I can be usin' Torag's Forgelight ta harm tha walkin' dead as well as heal tha livin." he explains then turns to Broderus "Ye be right in wantin' ta rid tha swamp o' such abominations, lad. Tha undead be a mockery o' everythin' good an' decent. So ye got me vote on followin' them as well!"

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

"Then let's hunt them down." Treygan will occasionally scan ahead with Detect Evil, just in case.

Would skeletons DR be common knowledge (or at least enough for my roll)? If so, I wanna try to find a club while moving along as well.

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Seiji nearly recoils at Broderus's touch. For a half-moment, he sees his father in the ranger's face. "I...why, yes, I see." he manages. "Thank you."

The Tian man does nothing to hide the concern from his face as he stares as the tracks made by the skeletons. "This is a problem more immediate than errant goblins. Let us follow them."

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Broderus clenches his teeth as he adds Valcrim's fervor to his own. "Yes, the walking dead are an affront to everything nature stands for and holds dear. They bring only corruption and decay to the living."

He thinks for a moment about that charlatan's promises about Abigail and exhales deeply. Gripping his weapons tightly, he forges ahead on the trail.

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Survival 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

I second Treygan's question. Broderus carries a mace and longsword because he knows some foes are more susceptible to either attack. Would he be familiar with the DR of skeletons as a first level adventurer?

Female Human Housewife/1

Yes, with Treygan's roll, he recognizes that the common skeleton is more susceptible to bludgeoning damage. Also was implied in Valcrim's speech, as he said dwarves use their hammers against them... Though Valcrim has been pretty successful using his hammer to end most threats to you, so... yeah. It should not be hard to find a big stick to hit things with in the swamp with Broderus's 10 on survival.

I have only a few hours with the hubby before he goes to his game today, then I leave fairly early tomorrow, so I'll have a more detailed post and a map up later.

Female Human Housewife/1

As I have already rolled encounters for you...

You proceed down the less traveled path at a leisurely pace. Several young branches snag at your legs, other new growth is simply trampled under your feet as you march south. As you come closer, you recognize the cliff walls, and the now distinctive smell of an exceptionally slow portion of the river. You come to a clearing and see that the river flows into a rather large crevice in the rock face, and reason that it could be an entrance.

However, you find yourself posed with a particular challenge. The cliff face is overgrown with some manner of plant life, which hangs over the opening.

Knowledge Nature, Survival DC 12, can take 10:

You recognize these plants as Nettles, a particularly nasty sort of vine known to sting. Persons simply walking through these vines will feel that sting, and unless they succeed on a Fortitude Save, they will be sickened for 24 hours.

And because I love maptools and making things easier on myself, I will give you your first encounter map ahead of time so you can discuss how you want to enter and where you would like to go!

Brinestump Caverns Map

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

Knowledge (Nature) Take 10 - 10 + 8 = 18

"Take care with those nettles at the entrance." Seiji points to the plants draped over the cave entrance. "Their touch will burn skin, and unsettle the humors."

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

Treygan looks at the plants pointed out be Seiji. "Looks like normal brush to me. Wouldn't have thought to check. Good eye." Treygan pulls out a torch and some flint, lighting it to burn the plants. "Hopefully fire works on them."

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Survival (Take 10) - 10+5=15

Broderus watches Treygan light a torch and move towards the nettles. He frowns and thinks to himself, Not sure how well that's going to work with the plants growing so close to the water and being green and full of life...

He turns to Seiji, "In case Treygan's efforts fail, do you have any acid bombs at your disposal? I'm going to look around the riverbank and try to fashion a spear from the underbrush. If I make it long enough, I'll be able to attack the nettles without having them touch my skin."

Broderus begins scouring the sides of the river for appropriate materials.

Survival 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Craft(Carpentry) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

"I do not have any acid prepared. I could potentially make some, given the proper materials and time, but the spear idea would likely serve our cause better."

Female Human Housewife/1

Back and have had more than five hours of sleep! Hurray for traveling with children under 10. I love my nephews, but sheesh!

Treygan's efforts to burn the nettles are rather unspectacular. The live vines give off a foul odor and thick black smoke rises, but unless he is willing to sit and stay in one spot with the torch for an exceedingly long time, he will accomplish very little other than burning some spots in the vines.

GM Screen:

Wis Check Father Flinthammer 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Wis Check Broderus +5 for nat 20 ranger danger1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

While Broderus is searching for a piece of wood that can be used to make a spear to attack the vines, he recalls that spears do piercing damage and are unlikely to assist in this venture. A long enough stick, however, can be used to gather and hold off the vines for a sufficient amount of time for his party to crawl through, and held from the other side for himself. This solution will also keep from destroying the vine in their natural state, which aside from posing a temporary setback to your exploration, have not caused any irreparable harm of which you are aware.

Oh yeah, in case it was obscure, you did find a long enough stick with your nat 20 on survival

Male Halfling Bard 2

*shuffle shuffle shuffle*

Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)

Using the large stick he found, Broderus parts the throng of nettles and allows his companions to enter the cave.

"Seiji, please take my stick, so I may follow after the rest of you have passed through..."

Since I'm the last person inside, my initial position should be point B-6.

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

[ooc]Assuming we all made it inside without issue.[ooc]

"So, water path left, narrow cavern right. I think I'd prefer a non-water route myself, give my armor a chance to dry." Treygan looks around for anything unusual, particularly in the goblin variety.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 7

Female Human Housewife/1

The stench of mildew emanates from the wet dungeon walls...

The brief exposure of sunlight from the path you have made in the nettles allows you to see that the entrance is indeed narrow, and unless you intend to crowd yourselves, you will have to push deeper into the cave. Once allowed to settle, however, the heavy vines swing for several moments, creating a rather disorientating display of sunlight catching and glinting off of wet rock surfaces. As you move forward, you note that the particularly well worn rocks on the ground are also quite wet, and you must concentrate to hold your footing. The height of the cave is some seven feet at it's highest, and given the varying perspective of the still swinging vines, it appears as though some of you must dip your heads as you venture in further.

In the distance, the sound of dripping can be heard, some falling into the water, others striking against the rock. As the vines settle, Treygan's torch becomes a valuable resource for light, as is only appropriate for a paladin of Sarenrae, and the flame flickers and snaps in two directions as wind comes from both directions presented to you...

{HP12/12 | AC15 T10 FF15 CMD14 | F/R/W 4/0/2 | Inish +0, Per +0}

Just as a note, I'll be stowing my shield so I can torch and scimitar it.

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2

After setting Broderus's stick aside, Seiji scrapes the head of one of his sunrods.

"Two lights may prove useful, in case we become divided." He says, squinting into the shadows that stand at the edge of his sight. "Which path shall we follow first?"
