Harvest Festival Map

This is where players can refine their character details and establish if/how they know each other.
Please create an alias for your character and put their ratings, move choices, etc. (basically everything noted in your playbook) in the profile. This is also where you'll track your harm, luck and experience.

Some specific elements I'd like some more clarity on--

Arianne: Tell me a bit more about the Collectors. I gather that they collect magical artifacts and that their motives for doing so are dubious. What has Arianne been told regarding their motives? Do they ostensibly collect artifacts for educational/research purposes, to keep them safe from those who would misuse them, or do they openly exploit them for personal gain?
Also, what sort of counselor is Arianne? High school guidance counselor, psychiatrist with a private practice, etc.

Magnus: Do you have a particular breed of monster in mind for your history, or do you want me to "reveal" it over the course of the story? Also, how old is your character?

Some general ground rules for gameplay:

Posting often is great, just remember to give other players a chance to act too, especially during combat. There's no initiative and fights can get pretty loosey-goosey, so I might ask other players what they're doing before I resolve individual actions.

In general, when making a move, describe what you're doing, make the die roll, and (if applicable on a high roll) let me know what extra effects you choose. I'll resolve how they play out. Here's an example.
----
Hunter

Jake pulls a silver dagger from his pocket and furiously stabs at the werewolf's chest.
Kick Some Ass: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7 Spending a point of Luck to make it a 12
Force them where I want them: through the doorway

Keeper

The dagger meets its target as Jake manages to shove the werewolf backwards, through the front door of the house. It howls in pain and swipes back at Jake.
Werewolf takes 4 harm, Jake takes 3 harm
----

Let me know when you level up and select an improvement. Some improvements might require a story justification (a human character won't just spontaneously gain the Divine's teleportation move without some sort of reason).

Don't forget to spend Luck, just be aware that you have a finite amount. You can preview your post before publishing to see your die roll and then specify that you're spending Luck if you so choose.

I will specify when a new hunt begins for the purpose of moves that trigger at the start of a new hunt, and ask you to make the appropriate roll (mostly comes into play for the Initiate).

Got the profile mostly done, just need a few finishing touches.

Phil: In town, are you openly identifying yourself as an FBI agent, or are you acting in more of an undercover capacity?

(0 harm, 0 luck spent 1/5 experience) Human Professional 1.0 (Charm 0, Cool 2, Sharp 2, Tough -1, Weird -1)

I think he's openly FBI but the reasoning for being there is a cover of course. I'm hoping to tie it to someone else, maybe Arianne like they mentioned in recruitment?

You may come up with one if you want. I should have some idea what it looks like and what to look for as im searching for clues, but that doesnt mean i know what it is.

mid to late 20s, maybe.

(0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Initiate 1.0 (Charm +1, Cool -1, Sharp +1, Tough +0, Weird +2)

Profile is mostly done, I still need to pick an avatar and one more move. I'd like to take Fortunes; any complaints about the potential retcon nature of the move?

Collectors: The stated goal is to keep them safe, but... That wasn't part of the actual formal induction oaths, and the mission instructions don't really emphasize bystander safety. (When she thinks about it, that was just what Chris told her... It's possible that was his individual goal, moreso than the rest of the group.)
Arianne's impression is the overall group is fairly small - she met a dozen or so during her time in DC, and the Indy meetings are smaller.

And Arianne is in private practice.

(0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Initiate 1.0 (Charm +1, Cool -1, Sharp +1, Tough +0, Weird +2)

Phil - got any particular backstory in mind?

-wound up cooperating during field work
-wound up opposing each other in the field
-acquaintances from the "normal" side of life
-other?

If I understand Fortunes correctly, the retcon move only prevents one "attack", meaning you can effectively undo one instance of damage during a fight, right? If it works that way it's fine; I don't think you'd be able to, say, prevent the death of an NPC who was killed by a monster attack the previous day.

(0 harm, 0 luck spent 1/5 experience) Human Professional 1.0 (Charm 0, Cool 2, Sharp 2, Tough -1, Weird -1)

Arianne- I think previous cooperation would be most interesting. I have it that this is his first official mission but that's easily ammendable.

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

Profile's done.

(Avatar choices are unfortunately limited for modern characters, so I went with something vaguely close to his monstrous form. Wish I could submit my own avatar artwork, but I understand how & why that's limited. Augh.)

(0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Initiate 1.0 (Charm +1, Cool -1, Sharp +1, Tough +0, Weird +2)

Neonblues - I'm fine with interpreting it that way. Would you see that only applying to myself, or could I e.g. shout a warning just in time to someone else?

Phil - alright, sounds good.

Arianne: Technically as written one could argue that you could only use it on someone else (since you can't really "warn" yourself), but I don't see any reason you shouldn't be able to benefit from it too.

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

If anyone can think of anything, I'd like to have some kind of a pre-existing connection with at least one other character. (Something that would keep me from being shot on sight in monstrous form, if possible..)

(0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Initiate 1.0 (Charm +1, Cool -1, Sharp +1, Tough +0, Weird +2)

We've both been in town for a while, so I'm open to any of the Monstrous history options applying; from my set, I'd suggest "occult investigation buddies", "friends via my cover identity" (if you're having trouble adjusting to the town, maybe you are/were a client?), or "you were described in the prophecies".

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

I'm liking the cover identity one. Maybe I'm a current client of yours, and while you know something of what's going on (Maybe my family knows you/your sect, and they want you to help me), and you're trying to encourage me to come around and put the details all together, I'm still in denial about the truth of the world?

Male (0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) The Wronged (1/5 xp) Charm +0 Cool +0 Sharp +1 Tough +2 Weird +0

One thing to keep in mind about my character is the fact that i fled town after my mother was killed and the house burned down. At the very least id be wanted for questioning as the primary suspect in the arson/homicide case.

I've been in town for a couple weeks at most. I've only recently gotten a job under the table bouncing at a night club and I've attracted the attention of some shady individuals or potentially even the club owner(s) if they aren't totally above the board.

I don't imagine I had much money left over since my trip across the country, so I was important for me to find work quickly. I wasn't picky and with my injuries and record, I had to act quickly.

Hey all, just an update: I think we're pretty much ready to get started (unless there are any other backstory elements anyone wants to flesh out). I'll post the first official story post in the gameplay thread sometime this week, just need to iron out a few details.

(0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Initiate 1.0 (Charm +1, Cool -1, Sharp +1, Tough +0, Weird +2)

Derek, sounds good. Is your family more of the "Ask nicely, and pay well for discretion" type, or the "crude threats are universally understood" type?

Magnus, want to have bumped paths in your couple of weeks here, or shall we just meet in thread?

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

Arrianne: Moreso the former than the latter, I'd say. They're fairly vulnerable mundanes, they don't have supernatural force to use for such threats, though they might have some mystical knowledge in reserve. Money and cordiality buys better silence than threats of violence.

Let's say I've got three primary family members. An uncle, Rob, late 20s, youngest of three siblings (my father was the middle sib, and an older sister was the last awakened member, but she died in recent years). A grandmother, Helen (also awakened, the only other one of the clan who is, but too elderly to fight or perhaps even shift anymore). And a younger cousin, Josie, 11, daughter of the now-deceased elder aunt. All of them know about the family heritage, and are secretly grooming me for the role, since there's nobody else left to take up the hunt. (Josie *could* be, when she's older, but right now, I'm all they've got.)

All four of us live in a big old three-story house, built to house a multi-generational family of 10-15, now sadly dilapidated, with half the rooms closed off or filled with old furniture. A study/library that Helen frequently passes time in probably has a hidden door to a secret room with more exotic weapons, and maybe supernatural books/items.

(0 harm, 0 luck spent 1/5 experience) Human Professional 1.0 (Charm 0, Cool 2, Sharp 2, Tough -1, Weird -1)

Arianne- To flesh it out a bit more before we start, I'm thinking Phil could have been sent to DC to investigate strange happenings. The Collectors could have sent you to feed information for the investigation: True if it's a common enemy or even false info, whatever makes more sense for you. Either way, I don't think Phil ended up finding what the task force sent him to find.

Okay, first post is up in the gameplay tab! Feel free to keep discussing backstory stuff here as needed.

Im not opposed to either.

Hey Magnus, do you just leave the stump exposed, or do you do the clipped-sleeve thing, or do you use any kind of prosthetic hand/assist device?

Male (0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) The Wronged (1/5 xp) Charm +0 Cool +0 Sharp +1 Tough +2 Weird +0

I have three prosthetic limbs:
one that articulates and can be locked in different positions, but is a bit too fragile to use it as a weapon.
One that is simple hook that i can open and close with muscle movements.
One that is a solid metal fist that has been reinforced and can be used like a club.

I keep them in the trunk of my car, typically favoring the articulating one.

Just noticed that I apparently picked one fewer move than I should have. Contemplating either Ancient Fighting Arts or Mystic, though the latter would require having ready access to Use Magic.

I'd be inclined to describe Use Magic for Arianne as having a small collection of magic items on her that she can use; would that be OK?

Male (0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) The Wronged (1/5 xp) Charm +0 Cool +0 Sharp +1 Tough +2 Weird +0

Im hoping im the first one to encounter Derek in the woods. At this point, I think he's the creature that killed my love and mother, as well as took my hand and eye. I want revenge.

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

Oy. Well, I hope it doesn't come to that. (If nothing else, the system isn't super-well set up for PVP...)

Fortunately the circumstances are in my favor. You're unarmed, and I don't really want to hurt you (as long as I don't think you were the one who hurt the person in the woods). Plus, I have 2 armor, so I don't think you can even hurt me with fists or simple, improvised weapons.

Sure, that's fine; I kind of assumed that Arianne has enough basic magical knowledge to be able to Use Magic at this stage. Note that certain magical effects might still require additional components (like chanting or inscribing sigils and the like), depending on how powerful they are.

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

Derek really need to start to figure out how to use his instinctual/monstrous magical abilities to do some of these things. He keeps engaging his worst stats...

Ah well, that's where training in his powers comes in, I guess.

(0 harm, 0 luck spent 1/5 experience) Human Professional 1.0 (Charm 0, Cool 2, Sharp 2, Tough -1, Weird -1)

Derek I know you changed a few times but you're currently in monstrous form, right?

Monstrous (2/5 xp, 0 harm, 0/7 luck spent) Charm -1, Cool -1, Sharp 0, Tough +2, Weird +3

Yup, monstrous form.

Overall, he still has features that look like a teenage boy, fairly normal build, regular haircut, young face, just layered over gargoyle features (horns on the forehead, a heavier brow, small tusks coming up from his mouth, plus wings, clawed hands and digitigrade taloned feet, wings, a tail).

Hey all, in the interest of keeping things moving, I'm going to start botting characters as needed to progress the story if I don't hear from you within the next couple days.
