Realizing by the sound from the western hallway that it probably isn't - or that at least if it is it isn't a very good morning - I grab my bow and arrows and run to where I can see into the hallway.

I know the chances are slim, but still I hope this will be the first real haunt I see here - and not just another out of place animal.

With the roar echoing in your ears, and the sleep still in your eyes, you nearly step in the fire as you rush toward the hall. Peering into the black hallway, you see nothing.

Your shouts are answered with the sound of claws tearing at wood and a distinctly bestial snarl that echos, rippling through the hall.

I let out an audible sigh as I hear the loud crash of metal on the floor. I turn around in time to see Aerrodin with an "oh s$~@" look on his face. I realize that barricading the hallway is more than likely moot at this point.

After giving an irritated look to the fire, I collect myself.

"Let's see what's causing this noise: Lights here here here here." Another set of four lights appears on the fingers of my raised hand. I point my hand firmly down the hallway as I release all four of them in rapid succession.

I make all four lights sweep down the hallway. When I notice them illuminating anything, I stop the first light and then the next one 5 feet further down the hall and so on until all of them are stopped with an even distance between them.

The magical light illuminates a set of double doors at the end of the hallway, The light of the ghostly orbs shows the barrier bending outward under the force.

The crack between the doors shows an eye, reflecting a dark, burning red just under the ceiling, and deep sable fur. The doors begin to crack and buckle.

As the jaws and muzzle of the beast come through you can all see that the creature is not only a massive wolf, but the fact that the creature is armored.

Thia times her throw perfectly, and the chakram slices into the side of the wolf's muzzle, just below the armor covering the top of its head cutting from the tip of the nose all the way back to just under its left eye. Dark blood begins to flow from the slavering beast, as the door creaks alarmingly as the creature's anger grows.

Elijah & Orpheus:

This is a dire wolf. This is a primal beast and is very feared, and for good reason. The creature has the cunning of a wolf, but with much more aggression.

Elijah (with a natural twenty) Would also know that they can be used as guard animals by larger creatures, or very powerful beings

Vinnick Varzel chants quietly, his free hand making arcane gestures in the air. The scroll in his hand crumbles to dust as the shrill cry of an eagle is heard as if from a great distance, and swooping out of the darkness is a golden feathered bird of prey, its wings beating majestically in the still, dusty air.

The dark wolf's massive form finishes crushing the door, and its hulking form pushes through the debris. This beast has armor plating on the top of its head and back, its flanks and chest are covered in the dark metal as well.

The creatures blood drips from the cut as it moves forward. The spacious hallway suddenly seems small and crowded when the massive beast stalks forward...

After a short verse, you draw back your bow to the absolute maximum, launching an arrow imbued with a minute amount of the song, and therefore your spirit. The last stanza is punctuated with the Spang! of your arrow simply punching through the creature's armored chestplate.

It's not like anyone would notice it there! We've smashed doors, we've gotten into multiple fights and we've collectively made enough other noise to wake up the whole house. One said the stairs have an eerie feeling, while going down the hall the overgrown dog just went down cannot be a good idea. so that leaves us the area the wolf came from? Orpheus doesn't look to good, we need to rest. But I worry that if we rest too long, to "mend" our wounds, this damn blasted house may have other things in mind for us.

I roll my eyes at the fussing growing more agitated due to my disrupted sleep.

I just want to sleep, really. Oohh. If only I had brought my darn crossbow. But no.I wouldn't need it at the library, it would only have been a hindrance! Hah! Anyway. Unless we are leaving the house we won't find anywhere safe besides, need I remind who's stomping around in the middle of the night drew it's attention in the first place! Ive slept through thunderstorms quieter! Besides with all the yelling sure enough everything has been alerted by now, wolf or no wolf! Also, the lad needs a bit of help.
I point towards orpheus then let out an exasperated huff. What a night

Convinced I've gotten as close to an apology as I'll ever get from Thia, I round on the wizard, hopping on one foot trying to get my right leather greave on. Why don't these things have buckles!

I'm more surprised that your snoring didn't bring it here sooner. Yes, I brought the monster down on us: yes, I made a blunder that anyone else might have. But we're only resting because you insisted that you needed sleep, and you were spritely enough when you ducked behind Elijah earlier. I'm not saying that we trek half-way across the house and back, but we need a barrier between ourselves and that beast before we sleep. If that door hadn't been there, this conversation would not be taking place. Further... Errrraaah!...friggin' frolickin' elves!... Further, Thia is right. We don't know if it's got friends, or how soon they might attack. We cannot escape, but we must not leave ourselves open.

I sit down suddenly under a wave of crushing exhaustion.

Then, head hung low, I begin again:

I come from a long and proud line: the lords of the Mayweather Chateaux. I left when I realized the doom that we had called upon ourselves. We were all dying, marching to our graves, and yet all we spent our long years doing was protecting our shrinking holdings from those that would someday, eventually, take it all away. I didn't know the purpose of life, I still don't. But I was sure there had to be more. So I left, and took up the only noble cause I could find: protecting life long enough for it to find it's purpose.

I nearly got every one of you killed. I nearly failed entirely. Please, if we wait here, if we stay still, you will all almost certainly die. Please. Do not take this from me.
