GM Niles |
Hello everyone. One of our players dropped out of our ongoing campaign and so we are looking to add a fifth player to the roster.
Our priorities are
1) The player can keep up with our post rate, it averages between 2 and 5 posts per day. Sometimes more.
2) The player is invested in our story and can work to enter seamlessly
3) The player is not an optimizer, because we aren't.
If you feel you qualify for our almost 1 year old campaign then go ahead and express interest underneath. Don't worry about posting crunch, just let us know you are interested and read some of our gameplay thread to get a story going in your head.
Currently the party consists of a Bard, Fighter, Oracle and Inquisitor. The players have expressed interest in an arcane caster to give the Bard some help in the spells department.
We are not interested in taking just anyone, we want the right person.

dotting for submission.
Bomber Alchemist
Per background, has a business that deals in potions. So he would be coming to investigate mainly to create an alchemical cure, but also possibly incorporating the disease itself into a bottled weapon and/or formulae.
He is a tiefling, but not evil.
I am very interested in getting into a long term party. I typically post 3+/day.
(p.s. if alchemist isn't a good fit, I am flexible and will play a different class if needed, I just wanna play)
I would appreciate my consideration

I can't find your original character submission was it posted under an alias?
Last time we recruited there was a vote and while I can't speak for the others I personally won't be voting for Eidolons or gunslingers. Sorry if somebody wanted to play one of those.
This has been a really fun campaign so far and I'm looking forward to see who wants to join our motley band :)

I'd like to steer people away from coming at this campaign thinking about their crunch and what character class they wanna play. I'd like them to be interested in playing in a location based campaign with a multiple post per day rate, and then read the gameplay thread and make a character that will mesh excellently with what we have already established.
Let me be clear here.I'm all in favor of playing the concept you want to play. Ask the guys they will tell you I'm a very understanding and allowing GM. However, We have 4 excellent established players in this game. We will not be entertaining anyone who wants to come in and "special snowflake" their way into all kinds of craziness. Read the gameplay thread.

Alright, did the concept I previously mentioned fall within a "special snowflake" type? I am genuinely curious, not trying to be snarky or hostile.

+1 on reading the gameplay thread, however at 70+ pages its really long so I thought some notes might help.
We started off with a big party and played through Hollow's last hope, and cured the blackscour taint plague.
Next there was a big invasion of undead which we fought off, followed by various child NPCs getting kidnapped by Kobolds which seguaed into the Crown of the Kobold king.
We narrowly defeated the Kobold King and safely returned the kids to Falcons Hollow. During the engagement with Kobold King there were hints at a hand behind some of the attacks and a name 'Drazmorg' which turned out to be an apprentice of Tar Baphon before he became the whispering tyrant.
Next we fought off the cultists of Ugothra who wanted to spread the Pallid Plague which threatened man and fae alike. At the end of that module we learned about one of the Seals that was keeping the whispering tyrant bottled up. Apparently a lesser seal was lost somewhere in the vale and its prescence is attracting trouble.
Most recently we ran through the Carnival of Tears, which mentally scarred our characters for life.
Several NPCs in the area are former PCs. Percival the chirugen has become an item with Laurel the herbalist. The deputy Sheriff Gared was a ranger. Most recently Michael our Cavalier has had to retire his character, but in style. He's been been repairing the Dwarven monestry and is about to become the defacto lord of that area.
Future goals of the party are to see a legitimate Mayor elected and to get Gared elected as Sherrif and prevent a war between the lumber consortium and the fae.

GM Niles wrote:I don't know what I'm looking for, I don't see anything from you in this thread.....I mentioned a catfolk sorcerer as a base concept I wanted to build on. How do you feel about that idea?
I'll try and help you a bit:
1. What's your character's name?
2. Are they from the Falcoln's Hollow area?
3a. If they are from Falcoln's Hollow, how did they avoid getting mistaken for a lycanthrope? Also what happened to them during the events of the Carnival of Tears?
3b. If they're not local, how and why did they end up there?
4. What immediate plans do they have?
5. Any long term plans?

That is an excellent and evocative summary. When I read about the seal drawing trouble, my first thought was -- oh, it's like a hellmouth. :-)
1. Name: Jaxom. He would go straight Sorcerer (Bedrock)
2&3. Jaxom was born, with his twin sister Jessa, to Miranda and Benjamin Mason, the local stone-wright of Falcon's Hollow. Jaxom and Jessa were spirited away into the First World while they were still toddlers. It is in the fey realm that they grew up and discovered their sorcery. Jaxom with his connection to the bones of the world and Jessa with her connection to the darker aspects of fey magic. Because they had lived amongst the fey in the First World for so long, the twins didn't value their humanity highly and began to seek ways to become truly fey. Jessa learned of a ritual that could help with this transformation known by a powerful dark fey of Darkmoon Vale and returned to the lands of her birth to gain the favor of this fey. She promised to return quickly to Jaxom who remained in the First World. She has been gone for thirteen moons. Jaxom is now both bored without his sister and worried for her. He has heard that there is quite a stir amongst the fey of Dark Moon Vale and quite a bit of contact with the mortal inhabitants of Falcon's Hollow.
4. Meet the local heroes of Falcon's Hollow who Jaxom has heard good things about through fey circles. See if they have heard of his sister's whereabouts. Though becoming truly fey was originally Jessa's idea, Jaxom wants this as well. However, he is curious about who his human parents might be and what became of them. (He would never admit this to Jessa.)
5. Find and reunite with his sister. Become one of the fey fully.
I can develop these ideas more if they spark any interest amongst the group.

The high concept of a brother and sister abducted by the Fae seems entirely appropriate for the setting.
However, abandoning humanity and becoming truly Fae is a step too far since Fae don't care for mortal affairs and are capricious at best. It's doubtful the party could trust a full blooded Fae and, particularly after the messed up stuff in the Carnival of Tears.
If you don't mind stepping back a little and being merely Fae touched then I think we could work with that. A suggestion would be that the ever capricious Fae tricked you into some kind of bargain, and your Sister will not be released until you do something seemingly impossible for them (an example might be to stop the deforestation of the vale).
What do you think?
Ixos |
Oh, I would definitely be human.
I think there are a variety of fey in the First World in terms of alignment. At least the Eldest aren't all evil, but that's neither here nor there.
I like the fey foundling idea, but am not wedded to any specifics. I definitely welcome feedback.
As for the posting rate, I deal best with engaging games that encourage a decent posting rate. If the games are slow it saps my interest. I definitely can post 2-3 times. In fact, that's one of the draws of your campaign: engaged players.

Agreed, the Fae Queen, Syntira is not evil, although she has a strong aura of chaos. I think she could be best described as an unearthly but fickle beauty.

Local children, spirited away from their parents and later returned fey touched seems perfect. Syntira the Fae queen currently owes the party a favor, and in her mind releasing a captive might be part of the repayment.
I like the idea of the Fae tricking you into accepting some monstrously unfair bargain because the task they demand can align with the party goals which neatly answers the question of why your character would want to join the party. Other reasons could work too of course :)
Ixos |
Hmm. Yes. I like the idea of having been abducted by the fey who serve Syntira. I'll could take the Fey Foundling feat (much better for Paladins, heh). Being raised by the fey, I view myself as her vassal and she has sent me to help you guys as an emissary for her court (and to discover what happened to my twin who disappeared in the recent troubles).
The culture shock of interacting with other mortals could be a fun sthick.
Gilmork |
Seems your sorcerer might have heard of Gilmork, he's working as a sort of messenger for the fae at this point.
That's how he ended up with the party actually, but his reason to travel to Falcon's Hollow and the Darkmoon Vale was because he had followed his dreams as an oracle to the Hollow.
I like the idea of your concept Ixos, as Gilmork is trying to settle the differences between the fae and the denizens of the Hollow, he and you might meet at the fae court/home and have a good way to tie into the group.

Miranda Mason smiled. A year ago she had wed her handsome man and a week ago she had given birth to her darling twins. They were two beautiful peas in a pod: creamy skin, sky blue eyes, and curls the color of turning maple leaves. The fact that they had been born on midsummer's eve was an auspicious sign she knew.
Life was perfect. She stood rocking their cradle under the bright, silver light of the waxing gibbous. She smiled and then went to bed.
The morning light revealed an empty cradle and the lives of Miranda and Benjamin Mason were never the same.
Their twins -- Jaxom and Jessa -- were raised by brownies serving the fey queen, Syntira. The brownies named the girl child Dark-Twin and the boy child Stone-Twin. Their childhood was an endless fey revel. They were weaned on the milk of unicorns. Their days were banquets of dew and flower blossoms; their nights were faery-rings and starlight dances. Their companions were the fey and woodland creatures. The foundlings did not know other mortals, but the brownies told them that they were a blessing of Imbrex and their guardianship an offering to the Eldest.
Whatever other motives that lurked behind their theft, the twins were never told.
As they grew, so too grew their magic. Jaxom drew his strength from the bones of the earth. Jessa, on the other hand, drew hers from ending of the years. They grew to fit their names. Jessa malingered with wicked sprites. Though she is not evil, she is as cruel and capricious as a winter storm. Jaxom, on the other hand was a solid and as patient as stone. the nobles of Syntira's court taught him chivalry and dubbed him their thistle knight. As different as they are, the twins remain united in their affection for each other.
Life cannot always be fun and games. Trouble came to Darkmoon Vale -- disease, undeath, and other stranger things. Jessa and her clique were sent to investigate these dark happenings. They did not return.
Mortal heroes arose and did good service to the fey queen. All debts must be paid, and trouble still stirred in Darkmoon Vale. Syntira called Jaxom to her bower.
"Go my thistle knight, go and seek out the mortals who think themselves heroes. Find the elf, Gilmork. Tell him that Syntira, Queen of Darkmoon Vale, has pledge your leal service for a year and a day to him and his companions. More importantly, find your sister. It is an ill omen that the offering to Imbrex is lost."
The queen tied her favor to his arm and sent Stone-Twin back amongst the mortals.
Personality:
Jaxom is a caricature of courtly chivalry and romance. It is unclear whether the fey court is that stylized or if the manners they taught him are a joke. Formal in speech and loyal to a fault, Jaxom means well but has no experience socializing with people other than the fey.

Looks like you guys are gonna need a rest after this one! Talk about a draining fight...
Hope Payday doesn't do what you're all thinking he's going to do. I don't think you could take him right after this mess.
