"I have another alchemist's fire, although its my last. I'm up for a look see, never know what clues we'd miss otherwise... Besides maybe there's somebody in addition to Big Krogs who ahem needs burial..."
Silas Hawkwinter |
I'd like to investigate every room unless there is a strong reason not to. It would be ashame to miss a plot hook because we were frightened of swarms.
Silas Hawkwinter |
"Right let's check this building over here", says Silas indicating area #1 on the map.
He decides to look for a window and take a peek before entering...
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
GM Niles |
There aren't any windows but Silas takes a peek at through the door and the building looks like a bunkhouse.
This spacious log cabin is filled with beds and
a common table at its center. Twitching bodies
lie concealed beneath the blankets in four
of the beds. A low humming sound is coming
from that direction.
Silas Hawkwinter |
"It looks like a bunkhouse, I can see rough beds, four of them with twitching bodies under blankets, maybe undead. I can hear low humming possibly from the bodies, could be another swarm. Luc are you able to detect undead?"
Silas Hawkwinter |
Silas ponders and suggests, "How about Hecktor busts the door down and we wait here ready for them if it's undead. If it's another swarm hopefully Gilmork and I can deal with that."
GM Niles |
Hecktor barrels through the unlocked and unbarred doors and the "dead" bodies twitch furiously....they situp in the beds and you see their lower jaws have been removed! Locusts spill from their insides to form two swarms of the creatures! The bodies fall limp to the ground, the locusts "animating" them having left.

I don't think Magic Missiles works vs swarms :(
Jaxom, Stone-Twin |
Jaxom curses internally. He had never encountered so many bugs in life. Not for the last time he wishes his sister were here. Her icy witchcraft could freeze these bugs solid. It was an unpleasant feeling realizing that his magic could not avail him.

Gilmork scoffs as Payden mentions them being good at fidning trouble.
Rather we're good at solving trouble more than you are, coward. If he ever so much as gets the idea of double crossing us I'll put an arrow through his eyes.
Silas Hawkwinter |
Niles did Silas find anything? He had a good perception roll.
GM Niles |
Inside the building there is a chest that is unopened. Otherwise the room doesn't hold anything that you can see. You said poked your head in, not that you went in to search
Silas Hawkwinter |
"There's a chest in here. Let's see what's in it?"
Hecktor |
"Try detect magic, if you have it? A colleague once took a sparkblast trying to open a chest. He lived, but it took a day or two before he was fully back in action."
Oh ye olde games, not having disable traps or high magic resistance gets you a huge fireball to the face ^^
Silas Hawkwinter |
Silas nods and hums his magic detecting charm, and takes a good look around the room, and the test.
Silas casts detect magic.
GM Niles |
Silas doesn't detect any magic, but finds that the chest is trapped. If tripped a log would swing out of the adjoining wall and smack whomever was standing in front of the chest in the groin area.
Silas Hawkwinter |
"Uhh that chest, I think its trapped! One of those logs probably swings out, or there's a hidden spike or something.", announces Silas. He chews his lip for a while and then asks Lucanor, "Luc, I know you had some, ahhem ...unorthodox training. Did it cover situations like this?"
Silas Hawkwinter |
Silas raises one eyebrow and smiles slightly whispering, "Good notion, but they probably heard me."
Gilmork |
"That trap sounds nasty indeed Silas. Can you see a way for us to safely disarm it?"
Silas Hawkwinter |
Lucanor has a decent disable device, that's kind of my hope. Otherwise try and set it off with a 10' pole.
GM Niles |
Lucanor attempts to disarm the trap 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 the log swings out at him but at least he isn't flatfooted! 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 it hits him square in the naughty place for 1d8 ⇒ 1
