Zeyram |
Pointing to the dead carcass, Zeyram asks “Now that you have a mostly intact sample is there anything more you can tell us about the space lions?”
GM SFS |
Cade sees the two over-large eyes of the Space Goblin staring back at him through the plexiglass helm, and it seems like a tear in the corner of an eye: poor little thing...
re. Zeyram's good idea: any who observe the carcass can take another crack at the DC11 Life Science check to recall knowl'.
Hawthorne the Innovator |
Hawthrone moves cautiously into the intersection, around the goblin corpse, and on to the port hall.
I'm sorry. I didn't see that one coming, either.
"Not to worry. We fared much better."
"Be careful to conserve your resources," Hawthorne says out loud. "We have a lot more to cover on both the ship and the rock."
Cadence Rem |
”We can always withdraw to the other ship. We’re still pretty close to Absalom, so we could sleep in our own beds, do a little shopping and then come back.”
GM SFS |
The little floating skull does some close ups of the "space lion" and the Space Goblin and then moves back up to the ceiling and comes bobbing along after Hawthorne as he moves into the port side corridor, stepping over the dead goblin.
Ahead, you see that the port-airlock's inner door is closed.
To its left, towards the aft of the ship, another door is open.
Behind it you see what seems to be some kind of cargo hold.
Cadence Rem |
”Hawthorne,” Cade cautions, ”Shall we try the bridge first? See if we can get the lights up and the life-support whirring?”
Zeyram |
“We should try to shut the doors to engineering first. Then go to the bridge.”
GM SFS |
Zeyram sees that you can open a little trap to the side of the doors and pull out a small crank to manually close the doors.
Most probably you can do so for each set of doors Individually.
Hawthorne the Innovator |
"Unless they trap us on the bridge before we have a chance to restore anything," Hawthorne says with glum caution. "We probably don't want to lock ourselves out of our escape route, either."
GM SFS |
As you exchange some thoughts over the communicators, and look around, you see that the door to the aft-side room on the starboard-side corridor is open too, like the one in the port-side corridor.
You see the openings to port and starboard between the generators in the main corridor in front of you.
And, up front, the door to what must be the bridge - with some lights twinkling inside - is also open.
So, what is your decision: to move up the main corridor to the bridge?
But close or leave open the double-doors behind you that lead to the power-core casing room?
Hawthorne the Innovator |
Keeping his rifle at the ready, Hawthorne creeps over to the edge of the port doorway and peeks inside.
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 4
He kicks a loose bolt on the ground that he failed to notice.
Should have just taken 10.
Zeyram |
Zeyram takes up position to watch the starboard and forward passages as Hawthorne moves down the port passage.
stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
GM SFS |
Hawthorne peeks inside briefly, pulling his back rapidly.
He sees that this is most probably the Acreon’s port cargo hold.
He spotted what seems to be the ship’s supplies.
Zeyram sees nothing moving... other than a bolt that, for some reason, starts to silently roll down the metal floor of the ship's corridor.
'Big Jim' |
"Buster and I will get to shutting the door, you guys keep on scouting" Jim gets to work.
GM SFS |
Big Jim, can you move your minis over to the port cargo hold door, then, if that is what you are closing? Or else tell me which door you are closing?
'Big Jim' |
Should be right now :)
GM SFS |
Big Jim closes the door to the port cargo hold.
Where to now?
'Big Jim' |
"We got some bumps and scratches, but perhaps the bridge is worth checking?"
Cadence Rem |
Cade moves nervously forward, toward the bridge.
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Probably want someone with some fighting capacity up with me.
On phone so cant do map.
GM SFS |
I moved Cade to just before the intersection with the small corridors to port and starboard.
Zeyram |
"Let's close the starboard hatch as well, reduce the directions those sneaky space lions can come at us."
Zeyram shifts position to cover the starboard hatch.
Xyklik Cold-Scythe-In-Harvest |
Xyklik moves up toward the bridge.
"The talkative Vesk can close the other door. I will clear ahead once finished."
He aim his laser rifle down the corridor and waits for the signal to move.
Will wait for Jim or someone else to close the other door and then move down the corridor to the intersection.
GM SFS |
Xyklik sees that the narrow corridor to the port side - top of map - has one closed door, the first on the aft-side of the port-corridor.
Whereas to the starboard side- bottom of map - also has a closed door, the one to the fore-side of the starboard-corridor.
'Big Jim' |
With some cover being provided by Zeyram, Jim moves in with Buster and secures the other hatch.
GM SFS |
Big Jim moves down to what seems to be the starboard cargo hold, with Buster in tow.
As the Vesk comes up to the open door, he glances briefly in the room, spotting what seems like some kind of science lab, amidst piles of rocks and mining equipment.
He focuses on the door panel, moving to manually seal the cargo hold when--
--the shadows seem to move, and two "Space Lions" appear before Jim's eyes!
One, with orange-hued eyes, leaps right through Jim's space, barely making it over his shoulders, and landing behind Jim.
The other, with yellow-hued eyes, comes up close to Jim, and snarls.
Big Jim sees that there is cunning in these creatures eyes, and they are obviously not animals at all, but very smart.
It also seems they fancy Vesk meat!
Jim reacts...

'Big Jim' |
Jim just hoofs it right out of there, not keen on being cornered or having everyone fight in a small corridor again!
GM SFS |
Jim moves back and away from the two "Space Lions" that snap at him as he pulls away-- orange-eyes is still turning around from its leap and lunges in the wrong direction, biting before it makes its turn, totally missing Jim.
Yellow-eyes makes a solid attack, crushing Jim hard with its teeth, even drawing Vesk-blood. 8 damage
As Jim is hurt he lets out an instinctive grunt, that you all hear on your Comm Units: something is up.
Jim: you can talk as a Free Action, to give the others a heads up
Also: Buster can act in the surprise round (Limited AI, page 75 CRB) - shoot or move
Cade glances over his shoulder, and sees a hurt Jim come racing out of the side corridor--

Ahhh nice catch, I assumed Buster couldn't, thanks for the tip!
"Space lions, they aren't goblin rats!"
Buster moves away too!
Cadence Rem |
”Desna’s tears!”
Cade shakes his head and calls in a little more magic, leaving a slick of grease across the floor under the closest lion.
On phone again, so can’t edit the map.
GM SFS |
I moved Cade up to the first place he can see where to cast Grease. And placed a square of grease for you in the back of the corridor.
Can you please give me DCs for your spells and such, so I do not have to go seeking the info' (which is not on the character sheet either). Is the DC 14?
__________
Cade moves up upon seeing Jim come out, hurt, followed by a chipper Buster, who just drives out into the main corridor.
Spotting the two critters, Cade casts a spell, dumping a load of space-engine grease at the end of the corridor.
The orange Space Lion slips in the grease, and falls prone.
Shaking its head, the creature gets back up, and then tries to move down the corridor, managing to do so without slipping, by moving carefully and slowly through the greasy part... it leaves black paw-prints behind it as it comes up to the corner, and stops, turning its head towards Zeyram.

The Triunite lines up his shot and fires.

GM SFS |
Hawthorne's shot hits the beast, grazing it but obviously doing some damage.
Then its companion, the orange-eyed one, climbs up onto the wall beside it, and then exits into the corridor by moving along the wall, half-way up, climbing its way past the grease on the floor, before climbing back down and moving up to Buster.
Buster who now acts... along with Big Jim, Xyklik, Zeyram and Simagus.

Zeyram takes a guarded step out of the reach of the orange creature’s claws and fires his arc pistol at it.
Static Arc Pistol: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Electrical non-lethal damage, Photon mode: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Xyklik Cold-Scythe-In-Harvest |
Xyklik whirls around when he hears blaster fire and screaming erupt from the hall behind him. He hustles up to the others and aims his rifle at the visible space lion and pulls the trigger.
"How many could there be..." he says between bursts.

GM SFS |
Botting Simagus reacts to the attack, and moves up through the Power Core room, coming up beside Buster... where the android aims its laser rifle at the orange-eyed beast, shooting at it. Alas, the shot misses, going high.
The "Space Lion" also avoids shots from Buster and Xyklik, whereas Big Jim's pistol does not even fire, the cartridge being a dud!
But, though the orange-eyed "Space Lion" avoids all these shots, it is hit square and hard by Zeyram's arc pistol.

Hawthorne is unable to get a clear view, and so his shot goes wild.
The yellow-eyes "Space Lion" steps forward, beside its companion, and grabs ahold of Big Jim, biting at his chesk, hurting the Vesk once again. 6 damage
The multiple bites and loss of blood get the best of Big Jim, who collapses to the ground, before the two creatures.

"Any chance these space lions are susceptible to fire?" Zeyram asks over the comms "If so, everyone else needs to get more than 10 feet away from me after my next shot."
Will wait for replies before acting. Sort of need to know which direction others intend to flee before my guarded step.

Stepping away from Zeyram a bit more into the safety of the other room he unleashes another shot of the rifle into one of the lions.
