Something sinister is stirring in the Thunder Rift Valley. Skirmishes and raids by goblin forces against the dwarven, elven, and human settlements threaten the relative peace that has existed in the valley for the past 50 years. Can the humanoid forces be driven back yet again or will they finally destroy their sworn enemies and rule the Thunder Rift?

There have been recent rumblings of increased goblin activity across the Thunder Rift. It has been more then 50 years since the end of the Sword and Wand wars, what have the goblins and their foul kin dwelling within Thunder Rift been up to in all those years? Leaving nothing to chance the city of Melinir has called upon its citizens and those of the surrounding lands under its protection to a state of readiness. You are one of those that have answered the call.

Please introduce your characters by making a post.

It is a brisk spring morning in the Thunder Rift, the hold of winter has been broken for two weeks and the trees are beginning to show signs of spring. The past winter brought news from those who dared travel the frozen roads of orcs and their kin being encountered. From the dwarven caravans originating in the Farolas Hills news of skirmishes between dwarven patrols and orc raiders has been brought to Melinir. The mayor of Melinir weighed the news carefully from his dwarven friends and requested from his many allies aid and their vigilance. The goodly churches, the neighboring farming communities, and the merchant’s guild responded by sending some of their own to temporarily bolster the Melinir city guard.

Just south of Melinir’s bustling market square a sergeant of the city guard stands in front of two individuals from those allied organizations. Two city guards make their way towards the trio from the docks district dragging what looks to be an unconscious man in chains and a sack of equipment is slung over one of their backs. Unceremoniously the man and the bag are dumped alongside the two and the guards move to stand behind the sergeant. “Found this one here causing trouble at the goat, shipping his sorry ass out of town for a while should do him some good.” One of the men mentioned as he passed the sergeant.

“Agreed Kyle. You two, I am Sergeant Randall Le’Gant.” Sergeant Randall addressed you as he stepped forward. “My brother’s family has informed me that there has been some loss of livestock and buildings over the last couple of weeks on their homestead and those of their neighbors. We don’t have the man power to scour all of the hills north of town for whatever is hitting the farmers out that way. I’m sending you three to meet with Gerius, he should know what has happened recently in that area. Deal with it and return promptly. You will be representing Melinir when you meet with these families; keep that in mind since they help to feed our city. Do not do anything to damage this cities good name or I’ll take it out on your hides.” Randall then roughly nudged the chained man on the ground with his foot. The man lazily rolled over on the ground with a snort and then continued snoring oblivious to what was going on around him. The smell of very cheap ale emanated from the unkempt man as if he’d swam in a vat of it the previous night. “This piece of s!@* is Latovius P. Goldfson, small time thief and a decent tracker when he’s sober. Take him with you and when he sobers up tell him that if he shows up in town before either of you that he’ll spend a year in jail. Any questions?” Randall hands you a simple map indicating the general area of several homesteads in the hills nearby, the Le’Gant’s is clearly marked.

"Thank you Sergeant" said the large holy man who went by the name Markas the Wise. "We shall seek out Gerius." Then in one motion he hoisted Latovius up over his shoulder as if the thief was weightless and then said, "I will relay your words to our friend here. By the time he comes back you may find him to be a new worshipper of Petra!" With that Markas chuckled.

"Oui mon capitain! It is with great pleasure that I Louis Mon ori de Dunis will take this task to hand, it would not surprise me one bit that we find these evil doers and put and end to these terrible raids" Louis says in his thick accent, then turning to Latovius says "Oh ho ho Trop de cheveux du chien, je vois que vous savez qu'il ya un petits fruits verts... The sergeant most likely was listening to Markus

Sergeant Randall removed a key from a keyring on his belt and tossed it onto the sack of equipment that likely belonged to the passed out Latovius. "It's about a six or seven hour walk to my brother's farmstead. You shouldn't have much trouble finding it, stick to the main roads north of town, and head towards the very first noticeable hill to the north east in the distance. Key is for the shackles, see that it is returned to the town hall upon your return." The sergeant smiled and shook his head at Markas's words. "You three best be going, might want to keep the shackles on until he sobers up."

The roads outside of Melinir were well traveled by merchants and farmers going to and from the hub of commerce in the Thunder Rift. The three got some odd looks by those who passed them on the road, but since they were armed no one bothered them and they received a wide berth. About a half hour out of town Latovius began to awaken from his stupor. When the man is set down by Markas, he sways a bit while breathing heavily as if the ground was moving beneath him. After a few moments he stopped swaying and promptly noticed the chains upon his wrists and feet along with the two pairs of boots standing in the dirt near him. His predicament quickly summoned up some sobriety and he spoke to his captors. "I suppose there is a reason why I'm in chains but I'll be damned if I know what it is. Would one of you be so kind as to tell me what happened and where I am? Also can you remove these chains? There's two of you, I am unarmed, I don't know where I am, and the world won't stop spinning." The man stopped speaking as if it had pained him to do so, closed his eyes and held his head in his hands.

Markas was enjoying the leisurely stroll out in the country. What strange companions Petra has chosen for me. Clearly this must be some sort of test. With that thought Markas let out a hearty laugh. "What do you say Louis shall we let our new friend out of his bonds?"Addressing the Thief Markas said, "Latovius, Sergeant Randall said to warn you if you show up in town before we do you will spend a year in jail. We have been tasked to find out who or what is raiding the farmers north of town." Not waiting for a response from the silly Frenchman, Markas took the key and unshackled the thief. "Whatever your crimes were are no matter. Clearly you have been given a chance to repent."

Louis addressing Latovius "Yes Yes by all means, release our camrade for we care not your crimes as much as we care for, how you say... ah! Your special skills, Hmmmm? And of course there is great reward of serving along side me! And with such a task as set out before us there is chance for.... ..... greater rewards, ho ho ho! But I must insist you understand if you try to flee you shall not eascape Louis Mon ori de Dunis!" Louis raises his hand to the road before them "To glory and the rewards it bring iz magnific!"

"So Randall has cast me out of Melinir and into the wilds on a task to redeem myself? I must have really made an ass out of myself last eve to warrant such a sentence." The newly freed man said as he rubbed the back of his head while taking a few deep breaths. He shakily rose to his feet, the effects of the previous night still visibly plaguing the man. A very bloodshot left eye gazed over Markas and Louis, "Both of you appear to know of me, why you are doing Randall's busy work? Did he send along my things or am I stranded out here with nothing alongside a madman and a do-gooder? No offense, but my day hasn't gotten off to a very good start and I don't think it will be getting much better any time soon."

"Hello friend. I am called Markas the Wise acolyte in the church of Petra. I was sent by Lady Enora at the request of the Mayor of Melinir. It is an honor to serve and protect. Our other companion Louis is a nice fellow although I sometimes have trouble understanding his accent."With that he nodded to Louis. "As to your possessions I do not know the Sergeant only mentioned you are a tracker and of course his warning" The cleric thought to himself a tracker might be very valuable in this undertaking. Praise Petra

Mon ami, it iz trouble in the outlying areas, livestock killed, buildings destroyed very very troublesome, no? It could be a small band of kobolds looking to expand their territory in which case we will have to nip it in the bud, small problem possibly. But there is a chance, it could be a much more darker... something larger, something foreshadowing, why else would have they called up so many men around the countryside to come to Melinir? These, these are the things that we can discuss as we make our way to our first contact ! But please Misuoir Goldfson no rush to judgment, my wise friend here Marcas is no more a madman than I am a goody do-er! n'est-ce pas? Come, let's walk, zee fresh air she is good for you. Louis is highspirited and yet his bearing is that of a warrior.

"What is in the bag there then Markas?" Latovius asked, indicating the sack near Louis that the man had carried. The rogue made his way over to the bag, he shielded his eyes from the cloud filtered sunlight while he went. Bending over with a grunt he opened the bag, "These are my things, so Randall does have a generous bone in his body. Who knew?" The man donned some leather armor, 3 daggers and a short sword from the bag before slinging the rest of it over his shoulder. Markas noted that the remainder of the man's worldly possessions couldn't possibly amount to much as the sack was nearly empty. "So all I have to do is wander around the wilds with you two for a few days and all will be forgiven? Well, no sense in delays I've a lovely barmaid to get back to but to be honest I can't quite picture her face or recall her name."

The trio followed the road north from Melinir for the remainder of the morning and into the early afternoon. The numbers of other travelers on the road slowly dwindling away as they walked. By mid afternoon Latovius spotted the first significant hill they had come across off to the north east. The decision was made to leave the main road and travel cross country in the direction of the large hill. It took less then an hour for the rogue's keen eyes to notice a few recent wagon wheel ruts and soon enough they had found a path that the Le’Gant family likely used to bring their cattle and produce into Melinir. "Judging by the lack of use these folks only go to town two or three times a year. They returned this way no more then a few days ago, whether it was these folks that brought word to Melinir we'll find out sooner rather then later when we reach the end of the trail."

For Louis:
If you are planning on using the backstory idea I sent along your character knows that often times folks that live out on these remote homesteads tend to like their privacy. If not using the back story then your character is daydreaming about a lovely farmer's daughter when the conversation went on.

It does my heart good to be out into the country, this area reminds me of the little village where I myself came from. Oh The work it was hard… But was well worth it to live the life you want, to live without interference from outsiders... étrangers, mais bien sûr!! Gentlemen I had a terrible thought that it just... We... Louis looks to both his companions to make sure they're listening We could have a little problem with the villagers. Zee small villages of don't care the outsiders, even when strangers want to help. So we will need to be on our best behavior, or we could find ourselfs run out of town on a rail! Hopefully Le Gant's name will carry some weight no?

Gentlemen I have a long day on Friday so I probably will not be posting until the weekend. Take care. KC

The trio following the trail eventually leave a thick area of low brush and spot the homestead about a quarter mile ahead. It consists of 5 buildings, the bottom 4 feet of which are piled stone with the rest being wooden structures. There are 2 barns which are 30’ X 30’, a 10’X20’ work shed judging by the overhang, a small 20’ X 20’ home and a bit larger 30’ X 20’ home likely for Gerius and his family. The buildings were built in a circle and appear to be in good repair. Cattle trails lead to the west and north from the homestead and several calves can be seen frolicking around in the pen area around one of the barns. Two men hurry from the barn towards the work shed yelling while a woman and 3 children seek shelter in the barn they were near when you are spotted. It doesn't take long before three men are headed your direction with a pair of bows and a heavy piece of timber. One of the men with a bow addresses you, "Who are you and what do you want?"

With smiling face Louis looks at the village as he raises his right hand in greetings and shouts (h)ELLO! We mean you no harm. We are a patrol from Melinir, sent by Sergeant Randall Le’Gant himself, we are to investigate zee losses of livestock and buildings over za last couple of weeks on area homesteads. We are in hopes of meeting with a Gerius La'Gant do you know where he can be found? Louis continues to smile and wave at the villagers, but says in quite voice to his companions Beware, the idiot, there iz one in every village, Oh ho ho! Just when you think everything iz well... as you walk up to greet them, the fool, he shoots you. c'est comme vous ne pouvez pas gagner pour perdre, ha ha

Louis is not taking claims to a leadership role. one of the things I like about playing Louis is that I don't have to worry too much about somebody posting just immediately before me Louis would say what he's going to say, lol.

Also Louis is keeping his hands away from his weapons, but is ready to jump from arrows

"Louis is of another land and sometimes his accent is difficult even for me to understand but he speaks the truth. We come on a mission of peace and goodwill to help our friends from the North." With those words he held his hands palm up in a gesture of peace. Repeating what Louis said,"We seek Gerius. Do you know of him?"

The man who had done the speaking lowered his bow and approached cautiously stopping some twenty feet from you. He was dressed in the simple clothes of a farmer and walked with a noticeable limp to his right leg. He leaned the bow against his side and wiped his brow with a red kerchief. When he addressed you he spoke in a gravely voice, "I'm grateful that my brother took the news of the attacks to heart and sent soldiers to investigate and deal with whatever is attacking the farmers out here. I'm Gerius, head of the Le’Gant homestead and the one he sent you to find. Come on up to the shed so I can sit while we talk." With that the man started to turn and head back to the farm but then stopped and asked, "How many more men are still coming?"

Behind Gerius the group noted that the group's other bowman must have finally overheard just the last part of the conversation with Gerius as he began to quickly look about the area. With eyes full of fear his hand holding the bow trembled slightly as he half drew the arrow back to be ready for whatever attack might suddenly come. It didn't take a battle hardened veteran to realize this was likely the first time the farmer had pointed a bow at anything larger then a deer and he was scared out of his mind.

if you want to try and talk the fidgety archer out of accidentally shooting something please make a Charisma check

Markas followed Gerius but noticed the farmer with the bow and nodded his head to him and said, "Peace to you brother." The Cleric hoped this would put the man and his bow at peace.

Louie does not move, still very pleasant in his demeanor, he addresses Gerius... Misuoir Le'Gant, you invite us in, and yet your men are still on alert? Perhaps I am a little confused no? Are you taking us prisoners? Not really waiting for a response, he continues in a higher tone I know... ze times she be hard, and feelingz not zo good, but still, no greeting for allies... Suspicious ah yes ! for we may not be who we appear to be... then again how can we be zo sure that you are who you zay you are? ... Zo I must ask, what iz your intention? Louie hopes that he has irritated the man in charge just enough that Gerius will make eye contact with him, for then he will see that he is not dealing with a fool, but a brave warrior, who respects the farmers, but is not afraid of them. Louie calmly takes his right index finger and smooths out the left side then right side of his mustache

At the calming command of Markas the worried man relaxes his pull on the bow but remains at vigilant. "Sergeant Randall has many small patrols about the area since the threat has not been identified. He sent these two blasters to you straight away to learn first hand what is going on." Latovius spoke up and his words appeared to bring ease to Gerius's face. The head of the family turned and loudly yelled at the man holding the bow who somewhat sheepishly un-knocked the arrow from it. He spoke as he began to walk, using his bow as a bit of a walking cane. "Clint is a hard working man, a little deaf though. He meant no harm with his actions. Come, I can't stand for too long these days after that damn cow caught me with a kick a few days back. So let's have a seat and talk things out."

Gerius has a seat after the walk back to the work shed while drawing out his kerchief to dab at his forehead. "Jacob, tell Melissa and the kids that everything is all right. Have her bring these fellows some water and something to eat." He asked of the other farmhand, this time he was much quieter then when he addressed the hard of hearing Clint. The man set down the heavy piece of metal he had been carrying as an impromptu club and left for the barn to comply with Gerius's request.

The head of the family spoke to you next, "I am grateful for your arrival, I can always count on Randall to help when we need it. We need someone to figure out what is going on around here and put a stop to it. The Drewvan family was the first to suffer losses, they lost a farmhand and ten cattle. The Bucholtz's the next valley over lost a building and a few cows. The Pearson's lost the most of all, Bear Pearson lost his life and one of his son's was also killed trying to stop their barn from burning to the ground. We have been lucky for the most part, Clint noted that we are short one cow and her calf from the cows we keep near the house." Gerius paused as if he was figuring out how much more to tell you. He gazed out across the hills at the sun already low in the horizon, "Bah! If you don't know already you'll figure it out as you have a look about the valleys. We have the largest cattle operation out this way, our main herd grazes this time of year north of here until the fall when we bring them back to the farmstead for the winter. There's a cabin for our men out that way and we have three or four live out there to keep an eye on them. I sent my other three farm hands to aid in rounding up those cows and bring them closer to the farmstead two days ago. When you come across them tomorrow they could have seen something that would help you figure things out. It's an hour from sundown now, you can bunk in the farmhands building with Clint and Jacob for the night."

The rattle of dishes was heard outside just then and Latovius rounded the corner of the shed and entered with a rather pretty young woman at his side. Latovius was carrying a basket with some food and a water pitcher while the woman carried some bowls, cups, and spoons. The rogue had a charming smile on his face and it was apparent that the two had been carrying on a private conversation since when the woman caught sight of Gerius her face blushed and she immediately looked at the ground. After setting the bowls down the woman promptly began walking back to the house, she paused at the corner of the building and looked back at Latovius and flashed him a warm smile before departing wordlessly.

Male Human Cleric/2

"Thank you for your hospitality Gerius."Before beginning to eat Markas said a quick prayer finishing with praise Petra. "I am saddened to hear of your and your neighbors loss and will do anything in my power to prevent further loss. Can you tell me who was the last to experience any losses? That would be the first place to look as any clues would be the freshest." Markas thought to himself that Sergeant Randall was wise in sending Latovius. His tracking skills should prove to be very helpful in locating the perpetrators of these crimes. Before heading off to bed for the evening Markas had one more question of Gerius. "You have already done much for us but I would ask for one more favor. Can you send word to your neighbors that we are investigating? This could ease their troubled minds a bit as well as the sight of three strangers." After the conversations drew to a close Markas headed to the farmhand's building to get a good night sleep as tomorrow should prove to be a long day.

Louis takes in the events of the day, and evening. He is a cordial guest, and thoroughly enjoys the food. And delights in the interaction between Latovius and the young woman Oh ho ho ze spring iz in zee air! Later before they turn in for the night, he has a chance to talk to his two new comrades in private... Well, well, well, a long days travel and we know just as much as we did when we started out no? He pours from the pitcher into his cup, as he swirls it around and sips, he thinks how the water is fresh, but wine would be better. Gentlemen I want you to know it concerns me that zee sergeant did not put one of us in charge of the others... Perhaps it is unnecessary with only three, but we will need to communicate extremely well with each other... for example tonight do we post a watch? I think zo, after all raids are happening and it seems zee farmers are still unprepared. And then, what of tomorrow? I think we will have to go out in zee wilderness to investigate... Zee cabin to zee north would be a good place to start. And what of you two? What are your thoughts, plans perhaps, I would like to hear them! And with that Louis stops speaking. It may catch Latovius, and Markus off guard at the intensity of how Louis looks at them, he really wants to know their thoughts on this matter.

Gerius informs Markas that all of the news he has is several days old at best but the Pearson's probably were the latest to suffer from the raids. He also states that he is already shorthanded here on the homestead with the amount of work that needs to be done and five of his men out rounding up the bulk of his herd and bringing them closer to home. He can not spare anyone to take a few days and ride to the neighbors. He assures the cleric that if they behave as they did with the Le'Gant's they should have no problems with his neighbors.

Latovius listens to Louis's concerns while laying in the bunk next to the man. "Jacob, do you tie up the four hounds running about the place near the buildings at night?" Latovius asks of the two farmhands resting near the trio while placing his fore-arm over his eyes. "Yes sir, I tied them up an hour or so before nightfall. They bark at anything that ain't a person or a cow. You should have been here two weeks back when a big mother possum tried to get into the corn..." Latovius raises his arm slighltly and one eye stares at Louis, "Nope that's all I needed to know, thanks and a good night to you Jacob!" The rogue rolls onto his side and rests a pillow over his head. "These folks wouldn't survive out here if they weren't partly cautious, the raids and losses probably happened when an opportunity presented itself to whatever is about. Cows or buildings unattended are easy pickings and don't put an arrow into you when you take them. Now, I intend to sleep off the rest of this hangover if you don't mind."

Please only read your particular messages from here on out

Louis:

During the night Louis is stirred from his slumber as Latovius who was sleeping in the bunk next to him rises and leaves the house. Louis notes in the dim light of the fire pit that the man didn't take his equipment with him so he was likely going to use the outhouse. Sleep soon finds the fighter again but as he drifts off to sleep he thinks that he might have heard a woman giggling or moaning off in the distance. In the morning he rouses and sees that Latovius is still sleeping in the cot next to his. The man has a smile upon his face and his hair and clothes are a straw covered mess.

Markas:

Your dreams are visited by visions of a light skinned woman bearing a shield with the symbol of Petra upon it. She beckons you closer to her and when you approach suddenly the world around you swirls out of focus, the land and skies become blurs of light speeding past the two of you. Just as quickly as it started the world rights itself and you both now stand in a fetid swamp somewhere within the Thunder Rift. You know that you are still in the valley because you can still hear the distant roar of the valley's massive waterfall occasionally over the incessant buzz of insects. While you look around at your new surroundings the woman slogs through the swamp past you. When you turn around there is a weathered and moss covered grey stone altar. Upon it are engraved images of death and suffering, motifs of the dark lord Demogorgon, along with many azure glowing runes of power. She places the shield on the altar and for some reason you feel compeled to approach the dark altar. You remove a silver ring bearing three waves upon it from your hand and place it in the center of the shield. Prayers to Petra spring forth from your lips and the ground begins to tremble around you. The altar shudders and then splits into three large pieces, you look up during the earthquake to see that the woman is smiling at you. Suddenly you feel a blisteringly cold force grab you by the left shoulder and spin you around with an inhuman force. Your eyes take in the horrific form of some sort of fiend from beyond the grave. The shock of such a sight rouses you from your slumber with a start. You note that Louis is awake as well and that Latovius is soundly sleeping.

In the morning Gerius sketches out where he sent Christian and Jack to aid in fetching the cattle. Explaining that these hills are some of the best grazing around for cattle. The area has ponds for water and the valleys are sheltered from the winds. He tells you that it is rather hilly land but if you follow the northwest trail out of the homestead you should be able to follow the signs left by them.

Male Human Cleric/2

"Good morning friend Louis. In Petra's name I hope you slept well!"Did Louis have any strange dreams like I did thought Markas."When I finish my morning rituals we should wake up our friend and set out on our mission." With that Markas got on his knees and started his prayers. He then woke up the slumbering Latovius. "It is time to get up friend so we can meet with Gerius and get to the bottom of this mystery. Clearly your tracking skills will be needed."

I am not sure how to progress with things as the game post has gone further than my conversation with Louis. So I will end here until I hear from him.

Male Human Cleric/2

Picking up after receiving the sketches from Gerius

"Well we had better be on our way."Smiling at Latovius the the Cleric spoke,"The quicker we solve this mystery the quicker you can return to the city. Let's follow the Northwest trail and then Latovius you can earn your keep as a tracker."

Louis awakes and seems to be his own orchestra of noises. Bonjour Markas, Eee so - so, I have gotten used to the city and it is so quiet out here in the country, you can hear EVERYTHING... So my sleep it's good, not great but good. Ho, ho ho! Louis catches himself laughing and instantly puts on a straight face, And you? How did Markas sleep? The swordsman gets on with his day and makes the most out of whatever breakfast is served, As the trio gets ready to head out, Louis hears Markas talk to Latovius about heading back to the city and adds Or maybe you prefer zee country no? Za view is zo lovely. He he he! Louis is in very good spirits giggling and laughing and talking to himself most of the day, breaking into a little verse every now and then Quand parfois je me promène en silence avec vous si grands champs de fleurs de pays ouvert j'écoute votre chapitre et les dieux de l'amitié sincère qui vous a fait mon compagnon, mais dans le parfum lourd de nuit enivrante Je cherche vos lèvres pour une caresse garance je déchire secrets à partir de votre chair donnant donnant, grâce au sort qui vous ma maîtresse a fait. The rogue is slower in the morning to get moving then his two companions but once on the trail the man has a light spring in his step that keeps him some distance ahead of the others. The terrain does become more hilly just as Gerius had described with streams cutting through the steep wooded hillsides. It is on the hillside nearest the farmstead that Louis notes many tree stumps long since felled, likely to build the Le'Gant farmstead years ago. The trail the farm hands took a few days ago is fairly easy to still follow for the trio. They for the most part followed a worn trail from years of cows being herded to and from the farmstead to pasture. After walking until mid morning the three follow the cattle track through a thicket just after cresting a hill into a valley and all three sets of eyes notice a flattened grass area far off to the side of the thicket. Smaller humanoid footprints near the flattened area as well as on the trail are clearly visible to even the untrained eye. Louis was giving the flattened grass area a closer investigation while Latovius and Markas were following some harder to read footprints towards some other brushes when the moo of a cow in the distance shattered the silence. That was followed up by a few distant high pitched voices, by the sound of things they were heading down the valley towards you.

What do you do?

Louis draws his sword and yells at the beasties a challenge that will hopefully stop them in their tracks but also at the same time convey to Markas and Latovius an alert to what's happening without giving away their position. En Garde! He shouts This cow, and all livestock of zee valley are under my protection! Surrender, or prepare to meet your fate by zee sword of none other than Louis Mon roi de Dunis! Louis readies his shield and sword while tossing several taunts at the advancing humanoids, he felt confident that these diminutive foes would present no danger to his skills even though he would be outnumbered three to one in the fight. He was caught completely off guard at Markas's charge out of cover to intercept the closest beast man. His companion who wasn't nearly the fighter he was might be overwhelmed and the warrior knew that he had to hurry to his aid before he was overrun.

Markas charged through the brush at the nearest dog/man like humanoids, the fact that there were three such beasts did not appear to shake the resolve of the cleric. Markas assumed it was surprise or possibly fear on the trio of faces that suddenly turned to look at him. His running swing missed the much smaller target in front of him but Markas believed that the crudely equipped and dirty beast wouldn't be able to withstand a solid blow should he manage to land one.

By charging forward Markas did not see Latovius draw a pair of daggers and take off running along the rock wall on a route to flank their foes.

Round 1 done

Round 2 (updated maps to be sent soon along with an action post from the enemies)

DM Rolls:

initiative enemies -1 surprise this round: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 51d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 41d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
initiative Markas,Louis,NPC: 1d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 4

So round two initiative e1,e2,e3,Louis,Latovius,Markas

Round 2:
The two trailing dog men catch up to and encircle the foolish human. They had numbers on this foe and they should be able to quickly take him and the other yapping fool down. What luck to have such easy fame and riches fall into their laps?

e1 attack on Markas: 1d20 ⇒ 51d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
e2 attack on Markas: 1d20 ⇒ 181d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
e3 attack on Markas: 1d20 ⇒ 191d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Markas is clipped on the side by a spear thrust from the second humanoid(2 damage). While the third one lands a blow with his whip the cleric's stout armor protects him from harm.

PC's up Louis, NPC, Markas

Surprised that Markas jumped out between him and the foes, Louis runs to join the fight yelling all the way Oh ho! Markas you are a very selfish man you know, keeping these little ones to your self! But of course I will not stand for thiz, I should join in the fun too! Ha ha ha Ce soir, le fromage est le seul que vous êtes petits bâtards de rat! Louise taunts and rants will last all throughout the battle! Now go away or I shall taunt you yet again another time!

Louis moves to E8 behind the smaller rat "e3" and uses his sword on the critter attack giant rat e3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Str 16 (+2hit/+2dam)
AC 4 chain mail 5 shield -1
1 sword (normal) Normal damage 1d8

Louis's blade nearly cleaves the runty humanoid in half, it could not even manage a final cry of pain so severe was the damning blow.

Latovius sprinted along the side of the rock wall of the valley using the trees to keep him from sight until he emerged from cover behind the three humanoids. A quick look about answered the question he had about how many foes did they face. The answer was just the three assaulting Markas and now Louis. He had about 25' of open ground to cover to get to the backs of the trio of yipping and wildly swinging foes. They were unaware that the rogue was behind them, it would be the final mistake of their lives.

Male Human Cleric/2

Feeling the bite from the humanoid (E2) Markas hefted his mace to return the favor. Attack on Humanoid E2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 A 12 for the attack. Sooner or later Markas will hit one of these creatures! Also question is it just me or are all the Latovius posts gone?

Round 3 (updated maps to be sent soon)

DM Rolls:

initiative enemies: 1d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 5
initiative Markas,Louis,NPC: 1d6 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 6

So round three initiative Latovius,Louis,Markas,e1,e2

Move Silently: 1d100 ⇒ 27

Latovius silently makes his way behind the pair of still standing humanoids who are aware of his approach from behind.

Backstab e1 : 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 121d2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11

The rogues blow fails to find its mark in the back of his target. The element of surprise has been foiled with the failed attack.

Louis, then Markas, then the enemies if they are still living and judging by the parties rolls they will be

Louis moves steadily and assuredly around the fallen foe, all the while taunting his next opposition ( e2 ) Now see what you made me do... Zee same fate awaits you no? Ah ha! S'il vous plaît, Zoot! Zoot! with a swish of his sword, a glare in his eye, and a smile on his face.

Louis moves around dead foe to E/D 8 to E/D9 To confront a new enemy "e2" and uses his sword on the critter attack giant rat e2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Hope I'm moving my guy correctly, I can't see the numbers or letters on the side and top of this map. Did you get my character sheet? KC

Male Human Cleric/2

Gritting his teeth Markas again hefted his mace and brought it down on the humanoid (e2). Attack on Enemy 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 The Cleric felt the blow connect and connect with power. Thank you Petra for giving me the strength and skill to vanquish the foes of these peaceful farmers, thought Markas as he shifted his body to prepare for the next attack.

Markas's heavy blow caves in the shoulder and rib cage of the much smaller foe, the body falls lifeless to the ground.

DM Rolls:

Morale check of e1: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5

Despite the quick death's of his companions the small one's tenacity does not break and it presses the attack on the wounded Markas hoping to finish him off before striking down the other two.
e1 attack on Markas: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 151d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

The creature's whip fails to cause any damage to the armored cleric.

DM Rolls:

initiative enemies: 1d6 ⇒ 5
initiative Markas,Louis,NPC: 1d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 2

Round 4 order e1,Louis, Markas, Latovius
After two failed attempts to remove the cleric the creature turns quickly around before anyone can act and lashes out at the lighter armored target attacking it from the rear. The results are the same with the whip failing to cause damage.
e1 attack on Latovius: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 101d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Louis, Markas, Latovius

Now zee tables, she has turned! And you... are still full of fight, zo much zee better. Have at thee! Ho! Ho! Louis trades insults with rat boy.

Louis moves around the dead foes to the last enemy "e2" or iz it "e1"? and uses his sword to attack enemy e1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

And zo it goes...

Male Human Cleric/2

Utilizing the momentum from his last blow Markas turns and swings at the remaining combatant. Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 So much for momentum lol. Get him Latovius!

Latovius attack on e1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d6 ⇒ 4

The rogue slashes open the stomach of the beast that lashed out at him. A slight cry of alarm comes out of the dying beast's mouth as it falls to the ground and expires. "Kobold raiders, where there are three there are thirty. I'll circle about this valley and look for signs." Latovius suggests to his companions.

out of combat. Where do you go or what do you wish to do next?

Male Human Cleric/2

"By Petra well done comrades! Are any of you hurt?" Leadership Skill +2 for Latovius: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14 "Latovius when it looks safe please look for any sign of where these beasts came from. If we can track them perhaps we can get to the bottom of this mystery" Leadership Skill +2 for Louis: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17 "Louis see if any of these beast have anything of worth to give back to farmers who have lost so much." I believe that only Markas was hurt and not badly so there is no reason to cast any spells as of now. If I am not mistaken and not stepping out of place Louis has a general skill of healing and could help bandage Markas up. Once Latovius has returned from scouting it is Markas' intention to follow any tracks left by the Kobalds hoping that they lead to the swamps and more intrigue!.

After a round of gleeful chatter (to himself) over the recent victory Louis chimes in Oui, I am fine, how are you two? Louis will administer first aid to any who need it, all the while praising their valiant efforts, Then he'll add Latovius, it may be best to search for zee origins of these terrible rat men, no? But of course we should secure this area first! Then I shall search the beasties for anything of value. [ooc] I have this strange feeling of déjà vu !

DM Rolls:

Tracking checks 1-3: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 131d20 ⇒ 3
Move Silently Check: 1d100 ⇒ 85

Latovius makes a lot of racket stepping clumsily onto sticks and branches as he returns to the site of the battle after 15 minutes out looking for trails and signs. "The cattle trail towards the cabin outpost is still easy enough to follow. These fellows came from a different direction, their trail is fairly tough to follow but I think if I took my time we could figure out where they came from. I care not which we choose."

Louis Healing Non Weapon Prof : 1d20 ⇒ 11d3 ⇒ 3
Louis's careful hands do an amazing job at treating the spear wound Markas suffered during the fight(+3 HP restored up to max). Perhaps the fighter might have a job to fall back on when he retires from adventuring? After tending to Markas, Louis was able to find 14 copper pieces, 2 silver pieces, and a whip as the only things of use or value on the kobold's corpses. The whip appears to be almost brand new and was likely purchased in Melinir by a farmer within the last month.

Male Human Cleric/2

Stretching his arms out the cleric says,"wonderful job Louis! I feel better than when we started this journey! I think you missed your calling. Petra will be watching this one."After speaking with Louis, spoke with KC at work it was decided to track the Kobalds. Should the trail grow cold the trail to the cattle could be located easily and rejoined.
