I totally wasn't! I was waiting for lunch to post it though! hehehehehe

Well, Freedom City, much like the the Kirkman universe of Invincible, draws from the mainstream images and icons created by both DC & Marvel.

Now, I am the first to admit that I do enjoy Captain Marvel, primarily because he is one of the more consistently heroic superheroes, and has yet to be significantly damaged or tarnished by being drawn into gritty re-boot like some of the other iconic heroes.

My idea certainly pays homage to that archetype, with his backstory likely to involve an orphan from the Terminus Invasion being rescued and brought to Mt. Olympus, a mythical place rather than a geographic location, and essentially raised by the gods to represent them as an archetypical demi-god, or classical hero.

At least that's the concept at this point. I expect a fair amount of good natured ribbing, but I can take it. Also, that image is just too cool to pass up! :)

As the old line goes, "You ain't gettin' paid for this. Steal shamelessly!"

@Honor Guard I agree that is a great picture and I enjoy homage characters myself.

So far we have a great group of potential heroes.

Just as a reminder

May 5th is the last day for being entering some type of character, but you can make changes on your character and get them finished all the way though May the 8th or until you say your character is ready.

Remember we are building a Super Hero Team in the long run.

I am really excited for this game and im going to put in extra time on the Obsidian Portal, is there anything more your guys want on there or anything else I can do?

We have till the 5th? Dot.

I love superheroes, comic books, and everything related.

Personally, there are a lot of parts of 2nd Edition I like better than 3rd. 3rd did some cool things, and made a lot of complex aspects of the game much simpler. Simpler can be good for some players, but can also stifle some of the opportunities to make your character really specific and creative. I also disliked that by default rules, 3rd made death almost impossible, so there was both no risk in combat other than defeat (and the eventual 4-colour capture and elaborate escape cliche), and no way your angst-ridden 90's era anti-hero (if that was your thing) could actually kill anybody. Personally, I like death to be a genuine risk, and I like whether you use lethal or non-lethal force to be a choice, and not defaulting everyone to the same denominator. Choosing your tactics make the morality of playing a hero or anti hero that much more interesting. The contrast between the two camps always makes for some interesting RP as well.

I have a couple of ideas, but I'll have to dig out my 2nd Ed PDF's off my backup drive when I get home before I can take a look at the crunch.

Just for the record, it wasn't criticism.

BTW, Does anybody want to start building some possible character connections?

Sorry, I have too much games running (and some GMing), I won't join this one

Well, I'm new in town, but I'm willing to run into somebody.

Having been among some of the first students to Claremont and even serving as an auxiliary member of Next Gen, Asif, under his earlier moniker, would have befriended many of their students and anyone else who would've aligned themselves to claremont's cause.

Does anyone else have any connection to the Freedom League? My character isn't really a member but was invited to the city by Daedalus so we might have met through that organization.

As a group you dont need tie ins to each other just tie ins to Freedom City and the Freedomverse.

@ Echo last year was the first year of Grads at Clairmont.

The concept has changed significantly but I give you, Invictus!

Background: In 1993, Omega and his Terminus forces invade our dimension. During the invasion, Centurion sacrificed his life to shatter Omega’s support armor and force his retreat through his dimensional portals.

Prior to the invasion, the billionaire genius, Maximillian Mars detected a spike of dimensional energies, and against his better interest he approached the Freedom Force to warn them of the impending danger. Mars was known to the Force as a super villain, the Commander. Under careful observation he worked with the force to protect both Freedom City and the world from Omega’s forces.
The Commander witnessed Centurion’s sacrifice first hand, as well as the power of Omega. Ever pragmatic, Mars decided with the loss of Centurian, there needed to be someone, some-thing, that could deal with the amount of power. He collected small samples of Mark Leeds DNA and dedicated himself to cloning the Centurian, so that there would be someone who would be able to stand against Omega’s forces when he inevitably returns.

Naming the project Invictus, latin for unconquerable, Mars worked steadily towards producing a viable clone. He discovered that Centurian’s DNA was largely human, but had been infused with energies very similar to the energy signature he discovered prior to the Terminus event. He used his wealth, influence and new found legitimacy to acquire salvage from the Terminus forces, studying the energies themselves and the effect they had on genetic material. Mars worked alone in the genome laboratory, though he recruited specialists from a variety of fields to assist in his research, though each specialist was working on their specific portion of the process, unaware of the other components, and thereby unable to deduce the larger project itself.

In 2002, ‘Centurian’ returned to earth after revealing that he had been trapped in the Terminus dimension for almost ten years. It was discovered by Chase Atom, of the Atom Family, and the Freedom League that this was an imposter created by Omega to infiltrate earth’s heroes and prepare for a new invasion. Chase Atom reveals the deception to the public at large, and with the assistance of the Freedom League this ‘Alpha Centurion’ is trapped in the Zero Zone.
This imposter was not in fact an imposter created by Omega, but in fact, the first cloning attempt performed by Mars’. He had utilized series of holographic flashes, the subconscious stimulation and memory implant procedure unfortunately created a psychological and emotional imbalance in the ‘Alpha Centurion’. He therefore scrubbed the process, and manipulated his creation allowing it to be both discovered, and captured by Chase Atom. As Atom is at least the intellectual rival of Mars’ he had his own suspicions, but as there was no evidence, he did not pursue them.

With the new data, Mars realized the process of implanting memories and experiences into the clones psyche resulted in psychological imbalances. With the assistant of Dr. Ankita Suresh, Mars was able to perfect the memory implant procedure. Though this required that Dr. Suresh have direct access to the subject, he was able to do so while preserving his anonymity from both the subject, and the Doctor herself. Mars combined his work with Dr. Suresh’s work on cortical stimulation to develop a subconscious education system that would allow a more gradual formation of the subject’s psychological and emotional states.

Markus was born May7th, 2004, and Dr. Suresh was able to begin the program that would allow him to gain full consciousness, and intellectual maturity. By this point in the project Mars had become so convinced of his eventual success that he revealed himself, both to Dr. Suresh, and to the subject, Markus. Mars became the clones mentor, and father figure, while Dr. Suresh, in many ways, became the young man’s mother. Through the memory implant procedure, as well as his on going holographic education Markus learned of the outside world, and yearned to be a part of it. Mars himself was absolutely determined that Markus not yet reveal himself to the world.

It was then that the dreams began, Markus dreamed of a woman, in his dreams she appeared as his wife, yet he knew the only woman he had ever met was Dr. Suresh. After speaking with Suresh, she was able to realize that the cloning procedure had resulted in a level of genetic memory, and the young man was experiencing memories directly from Centurion’s cellular consciousness. She encouraged the young man to learn what he could from these memories, as she felt that the memories of the hero would be nurturing as compared to the pragmatic mentoring he was receiving from Mars himself.

Weeks later Markus awoke in his rejuvenation chamber in Mars’ secure lab, desperate to discover more about Marcus Leeds’ life he flew at super sonic speeds to Centurions arctic Sanctum. On approaching the hidden entrance scanners decades old recognized their creators DNA and allowed the young Markus access. As the Freedom League was aware of the Sanctum, his entrance set off alarms at Freedom Hall. Thus it was that Captain Thunder and the rest of the League arrived at the arctic to discover the young man perusing Leeds’ personal library. After a brief skirmish, in which the young man was eventually subdued, he revealed his origins to the League, though he left out any indication of either Mars’ or Suresh’s involvement in his creation.

Captain Thunder, Bowman and Johnny Rocket thought it best for the clone to be incarcerated until they could determine the origins and circumstance of his creation, while other members of the League, specifically Pseudo, Lady Liberty, and Daedalus thought it may be better to enroll the young man in Clarmont Academy where he could be kept under close scrutiny by Duncan Summers.

So in with the League as his sponsors, Markus Anthony enrolled at the Academy. When Mars discovered that the results of his creations actions was the increased scrutiny of the League he withdrew from the young man’s life for a time. Unsure of what the young man would eventually become, he was pleased that he had had the foresight to encode within Markus' very DNA a crippling weakness to Argonite gas, which only he would be able to replicate. However, Suresh contacted Markus through encrypted email, and was a help in the early days of his academy life.

Her continued communication, allowed the young man to excel in his studies. He did not socialize much with his fellow students, as he maintained a certain distance, he had only had contact with Mars and Suresh during his formative education and so the chaotic crowds of the academy were both intimidating and embarrassing to him. Due to Captain Thunder’s opinion of him, Markus had several run ins with the Captain’s son, Bolt. He did manage to bond with Nereid, her understanding of the weight of the crown of Atlantis mirrored, in many ways, Markus’ own doubts about his ability to carry the legacy of Centurion.

Due to his unique physiology and the fact that he does not need sleep as we know it, Markus was able to simultaneously take night courses that would allow him to graduate the Academy with his teachers degree, and a bachelor degree in Civics and History. On graduation, Nereid presented Markus with a gift, a costume made by Atlantean tailors, regal and noble, she encouraged him to continue on in heroics and become the hero that she knew him to be.

And so as Markus Anthony accepted a position with the Freedom City School Board as a part time secondary school teacher, that evening the hero known as Invictus was first seen in the night sky over Freedom City.

Complications:

Motvation: Responsibility: With whispers of Centurion's heroic deeds ever present in his mind, Markus Anthony has devoted his life to trying to live up to the ideals of Centurion. He realizes he has much to overcome on the path of the hero, his very birth leaves doubts in his mind, and the minds of others, as to whether he was created to be a weapon, or a hero. He strives to overcome those doubts in actions and deeds.

Enemy: As a legacy of the world renowned Centurion, Invictus will accumulate a number of his nemesis. Overshadow and his Shadow organization, Nacht-Krieger, Black Star and the Crime League would all love the opportunity to humiliate the legacy of their own greatest rival. Over course above all of them looms the world destroying shadow of Omega.

Honor: Path of the Paragon: With the memories of the formation of both the Liberty League and the Freedom League, Markus strives to use his abilities in a manner befitting a true hero. He will always begin an encounter ensuring that innocents and bystanders are safe, as a student of civics and the societal responsibility he will always assist the police, and never cross that line.

Identity: Markus Anthony: Markus maintains a secret identity as a secondary school teacher, unfortunately his ability to hear radio transmissions, and various calls for helps will often distract him and he strives to maintain a balance between his responsibility to his students and to the citizens of Freedom City.

Obsession: Secrets of my Birth: Markus struggles with the true motivation of Mar's in his own creation. His is obsessed with discovering the reasons and secrets that his ever pragmatc father keeps from him in that regards. Mars' recent silence since his enrollment in Claremont frustrates his attempts to confront his father and discover the truth.

Power Loss: Argonite Gas: Mars, foreseeing a time where his creation may possible work at odds against him, encoded into his DNA a debilitating weakness to a manufactured nerve gas that is the exclusive patent of Mars Tech. The gas is a failed attempt at a non lethal nerve toxin, and as such the project was shelved and not viable on the commercial market, unless it becomes known that the toxin can incapacitate and even eventually kill the new hero, Invictus.

Quirk: Daddy Issues: Markus wants to believe in the inherent goodness of his father, and despite some disagreements with his methods, Markus, trusts in his father. As such he suffers a -5 circumstance penalty on any Sense Motive checks against Maximillian Mars.

Relationship: Several: Markus maintains several key relationships in his life, the first is with his father, Maximillian Mars. Suffice to say it's complicated, but he loves and trusts the man, despite any evidence to the contrary. Secondly, it was with Dr. Suresh's help that Markus was able to excel at the Academy, and he has come to respect and value her opinion on matters of the heart, and will often seek her out for advice. While he has developed certain feelings for Nereid, he has yet to admit them to her, as he feels that the woman is too far out of his league, but he does maintain a cordial, if flirty, friendship with her and will drop everything to come to her aid. Finally he has come to care deeply about the students of FDR High School, and while he maintains a secret ID, unknown to him some of his students have come to suspect he actually is Invictus, though out of respect for their teacher they will often cover for him to allow him to continue as both a hero and their teacher.

Rivalry: Captain Thunder & the Atom Family: Due to the circumstances of his creation, both Captain Thunder, and the Atom Family have their doubts about Invcts' true goals. Unaware of Mars' involvement in his creation, they feel that the young clone is either a key part of some larger plot, or up to nefarious deeds in his own right. They will do little to openly confront him, but they are there ever present waiting for a moment in which they can prove their suspicions.

Secret: My true Purpose: Markus is truly unaware, and at times actually afraid that other's suspicions about the purpose of his creation and Mas' intentions in creating him are right. He struggles with the fact that he may be a weapon, or that he may at one point betray those that he holds dear. As such he can often become withdrawn and sullen with too much introspection.

And there you have it, my submission! If you have any comments, concerns or questions I'd be glad to hear them. As for ties to other characters I purposely ensured he ended up at Clarmont and he could very easily know other Alumni of the Academy.

@Honor Guard I have some bad news for you I have changed the time line for things that have happened its over at the obsidian portal.

I like the idea but things have been changed so your dates dont work and or line up.

Ideas I have!

The main idea I have would be for a Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic type of super genius, whose experiments resulted in unintended super abilities, somewhat in the manner of the aforementioned Mr. Fantastic, with a bit of Dr. Manhattan or Dr. Doom thrown in.

I am thinking of a former child prodigy, who went on to be a well regarded scientist, experimenting with teleportation. Shifting himself through Space-Time seemed to result in some sort of awakening. He was thereafter able to shift himself through time and space at will, without any machines or devices required. No examination of his physical body would ever yield any reason why this might be, as all tests indicates he was, and continued to be, a completely ordinary human being.

I see him being very scientifically minded, and his powers also reflecting that; though the mechanism by which he does things would be unknown, his actions would all also follow the laws of physics as they are understood. That is to say, he must obey the inviolability of the speed of light, conservation of mass and energy, and though he might manipulate both time and space, he could never for instance reverse the flow of time (no time travel abilities).

Power Scheme: Teleportation, in a variety of manners, including Site to Site or Portals. He also has various time and space dilation powers, such as altering his relative speed of travel in time in order to achieve a super speed or healing effect , range attacks by causing Space-Time distortion waves or even Spacial Sheering effects. Lastly, I see him his most iconic ability as being able to appear in multiple locations at once, and be able to act independently in each of those locations (quasi-duplication).

Aside to the GM:
This last power will need some GM input to make sure it takes an acceptable shape, as Duplication is one of the powers in the book that comes with a note about potential game breaking forms the power can take. Personally, I am envisioning this as Duplication with the Heroic extra, and the Real limitation. All of the duplicates really are him!
Duplication can be found in the core book, page 82, or in Ultimate Power, page 151

Actually, where the default version of Real assumes that all the versions are from different points in time (kind of like fighting the battle through, waiting until you're ready to go again and then traveling back in time to help yourself out in the same fight. I do not want to do this, as mentioned above, I do not see him having any time travel abilities; as far as we presently understand it, time moves in only one direction. He can potentially speed up or slow down a location or person's rate of travel in time, perhaps even stop time in small areas, but he would never be able to reverse the flow of time.

As a result, I am actually thinking of a new limitation besides the one listed:

Real wrote:
Real (–1): All of your duplicates are the “real” you —perhaps from different time-lines or periods. You suffer the worst damage of all duplicates when you stop using this power. If any of your duplicates die, you die as well! You cannot have the Survival extra.

The default limitation tracks damage and such independently for each duplicate/location, then at the end of the battle, you are assumed to have the most severe of all the injuries. This still assumes all the duplicates still exist in discrete periods of time, and other than with death, what affects one, does not affect the others. What I envision would be a little bit different:

Polylocation wrote:
Polylocation: All of your duplicates are the “real” you — existing in different super-positional locations simultaneously, and each interacting independantly. As a result, anything that affects any one of the duplicates that is not a function of relative location (such as binding), simultaneously affects them all, whether it be injury, mind control, or death.

As this is much more severe a limitation that the default Real limitation, it helps a lot to limit the power of the ability, as if you manage to take out the hero at one location, they all simultaneously go down. As a result, it would also need to be more than the present -1 listed for Real

Version 1: -1 As all of the duplicates are real, and existing simultaneously, the power includes the Heroic extra within the cost (instead of being -2). Alternatively, it could of course just be called a -2 limitation, with Heroic a required extra.
Variation 2: -1 in order to account for the increased limitation of this ability, a secondary ability is granted in the form of simultaneous possession. Just as all the duplicates only have one body, so too do they share one set of possessions. Any object carried, picked up, or acquired while existing in multiple locations automatically becomes possessed in all locations! Thus one duplicate at the hq could pick up a first-aid kit or anti-venom, and a second at the battle could hand it to an ally. This kind of works out to a minor teleportation effect, which fits very nicely with his overall theme.

End of aside.

Let me know what you think of the concept, and if it works, I will start on the crunch and backstory.

@Rigor I was worried about the time travel thing but like you said time only goes forward the duplication is Ok to a point it needs to be very dangerous and taxing to your character

The limitation I outlined makes it quite dangerous to perform in any kind of combat situation, as anyone that has played a Summoner or the like will tell you; increasing the number of targets an enemy has to shoot at is normally a good thing, as any individual creature has a significantly lower chance of getting hit. In this scenario however, all of the duplicates are the same guy, with the same hitpoint pool. That means that if a badguy faces 6 heroes, in the form of 10 opponents, fully half the time someone would be attacking the same guy, as 5 of the 10 good guys are all the same person. He would have to be very cautious about using it like that, as if he floods an area with duplicates, he would start getting attacked to the exclusion of everyone else. If a single one goes down, then all of them do. It almost sends up a flare making sure that everyone attacks him all the time, which is probably going to cause him problems, if through the increased chances of critical hits, if for no other reason. It probably becomes the most useful in non-combat situations.

Remember one thing about M&M, is that it, similar to Champions & the Hero system is an effect driven game.

Ask yourself, what is the EFFECT of having duplicates? Being able to flood a lab with duplicates and complete the work in half the time while having sexy time with your wife ala Dr. Manhatten? Simple fix is Quickness with the Descriptor that it is multiple duplicates that allow you to do so.

As an experiment with the mechanics of 3E, I built a Multiple Man type hero, who didn't take duplication, just a variety of effects to simulate a horde of heroes converging on the scene, from Concealment (limited to Partial) which makes it harder to score a hit on him due to a chaotic crowd surging around him, to Impede Movement, to simulate the mosh pit effect, increased strength and grab based advantages to simulate the dog pile. It's all in the descriptor while saving yourself the exhorborent cost of duplication itself. This also allows you to stream line combat so the other players aren't waiting on you to make multiple rolls for multiple dupes.

Just my thoughts on the mechanics of duplication. Hope it helps. :)

Thanks for the ideas; M&M does lend itself to that kind of defacto effect very nicely, and I've used it before as well (such as an area affect disarm power to simulate a speedster whipping through an area and taking the weapons from everyone). In this case, I envision a few more complicated strategies, such as being present in both groups when we split the party, and being able to coordinate between the two; having a presence back at HQ while we are on missions to provide remote support, tactical advice, satellite images, computer hacking, first aid, and so forth; as well as the basic effect of double teaming the badguy if the situation warrants the risk.

While the work arounds might duplicate the effects, I don't know if it would be quite the same as what I was thinking, and wouldn't quite capture the character I had in mind. The other aspect to consider is character growth, and while new effects can be established, it does not lend itself as easily to the organic development of new uses for powers that comic book climaxes are famous for.

Duplication is not actually an expensive power in terms of points, it is generally more an issue of gameplay and whether it becomes unmanageable for the GM. The work arounds you suggest are good ones, and I might even be able to find ways to do the other things I've suggested or capture the flavour of duplicating, but if the GM decides he doesn't want duplication in this game, that'll be fine, but I'll probably go back to the drawing board for a fresh idea.

In a PBP game I dont think Duplication is as problematic as it is in other games of you hogging all the actions. Duplication is fine

One thing you may want to consider when posting is having an easy way of designating which duplicate is which and doing what.

I imagine the burden for a duplicator in PbP is on them as they just have to type out a lot more information with each post, while the rest of us just have to read it to see what is happening.

That is a good point that might be a lot of aliases LOL

I am wondering how I can post pics of maps and things like that. as you all know im a PBP rookie

The two main methods I've seen are using a Google Docs spreadsheet (set the cells to squares and use drawing tools) and Roll20.net. Roll20 is another application to learn, but it works reasonably well. I'm not sure if it has a limit on map size, though. Outdoor superfights may be too much.

I was hoping for somewhere to upload them out of books and things.

Im just not sure

Roll20 lets you upload them. For modern day, you can use real-world map images for exteriors. Googling should also help you find plenty of free map resources for interiors.

I wasnt sure if Photobucket or something like that would work or the Obsidian Portal just make a wiki with the uploaded images

Use Google Draw for the maps. I've been using that for my pbp games. Here's an example: Cavern of Ancestors If you make the google draw editable, people can move their own tokens, which makes things very easy. With a little work, you can add numerals and letters on the grid so people that can't move them (connecting via phone, etc) can give coordinates.

So here is a question how can I take the photos out of my PDFs for NPCs and Maps and be able put on the sites.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Maps Subscriber

I am more familiar with Roll20. It lets you upload maps and then position them on the grid provided. You can as the GM adjust the size of the maps within limits but usually big enough to cover a city block. Potentially using separate maps for different areas if needed or simply making the squares bigger than a single character.

My wife is running us through the Iron Gods AP and has me load and align to grid the maps from the PDF.

Im toying around with all these programs cause we dont need down to the foot details just where things are for the most part.

I will accept any help with this that you guys are willing to offer. Like Ive said im new to this.

With google draw, you drag and drop the image of the main map, and then drag and drop any kind of token etc on top of the main map. Tokens can then be moved on top of the map.

I've been taking pdfs and converting them to png using gimp which is free, and pretty easy. Google Draw also doesn't require that someone create an account. You can allow anyone with the link to edit, and just share the url.

Broadway

background:

Jason Berenzhin was born to Cassandra and Jacob Berenzhin in May of 1990. Cassandra a well-known Broadway actress and Jacob an up and coming geneticist working on the human genome and brain function for the NY base think tank FutureNow. Growing up, Jason showed signs of heightened intelligence, which his father was extremely proud of, but that pride turned towards resentment, when, at a young age, Jason started to take after his mother.

The young man became a staple at his mother’s shows, often seen in his mother’s arms backstage at both rehearsals and performances. Before his tenth birthday, Jason was somewhat of a media darling, and when he started to display musical talent as well, the press ate it up. Duets sung with his mother hit the internet, and the cherubic Jason soon became an upcoming star.

All the while, his father put up a pleasant front, but seethed inside. This was his son, HIS legacy.

Soon after his twelfth birthday, Cassandra accepted a role in a national touring company, and despite protestation from Jason, who wanted to go with her, she left for the road, leaving Jason in Jacob’s care. By all accounts, Jacob was an excellent father. Jason never wanted for anything, and his father was always there when Jason needed him.

But appearances were deceiving.

Jacob began slipping solutions of his own making into Jason’s food and drink. Solutions that were designed to enhance Jason’s brain functionality. It was Jacob’s line of work, after all, and if Jacob could trigger something in Jason’s mind, he could rid Jason of the foolish notions of stardom, and Jason would become HIS son once again. Over several months, Jason consumed his father’s concoctions, and they seemed to be working. His grades improved, he was performing above the highest levels of the classroom, and indeed seemed to be his father’s prodigy. Much to his father’s liking, Jason started to lose interest in the performing arts. There was only one thing left to trigger all of Jason’s higher brain functions. Or so his father thought.
Jacob took Jason to his lab under the guise of showing the boy something remarkable. He wanted to show Jason how they had been able to use ultrasound coupled with laser and magnetic resonation to map the brain. Even promised to show Jason a map of his own brain. The youth was happy, more interested in the fact that his father seemed to actually want to spend time with him now. His mother had been gone on tour for a little over two years, coming home occasionally, and on holidays, and he missed her, missed her music and the theatre, but bringing that up with his father always seemed to put him in a funk. The arrived at his father’s lab, and after the grand tour they went to his lab and Jacob showed Jason the machine.

It looked like something out of a science fiction movie. A helmet of sorts, with a cacophony of wires and electrodes attached, which then fit inside a golf ball like apparatus about 15 feet wide. Jason looked at it and chuckled. “You want me to stick my head in THAT?”

Jacob smiles and nodded, “Yes, and it isn’t going to do anything. Here look.” He flipped on a series of machines and a holograph appeared, showing what was obviously a human brain.

Watching, Jason saw several sparks which lit up sections of the projection. “Whoa…now that’s cool!”

Jacob nodded, “That’s my brain. We scanned it yesterday, and what you’re seeing is sections of the brain at work. We get live feed, which allows us to map never seen activity in real time.” He grinned at his son. “How about we see how you do?”

“Just try not to be blinded, dad!”

Jason took a seat in the barber chair type seat while his father adjusted the helmet. The whole of the apparatus then slid back, and up until Jason’s head was inside the ‘golf ball’.
Jacob knew that the Australians made breakthroughs in healing lesions caused by Alzheimer’s using ultrasound, and had studied their findings. He took that breakthrough a step further, and thought that he could unlock portions of the brain that were normally mostly dormant. The machine fired up, and soon the holograph showed Jason’s brain, and Jacob was pleased. It showed more activity already than any of the scientists who had sat in the chair had. Jacob knew if he just made a few changes, Jason would rival the greatest minds out there. He directed the ultrasound to fire at a few locations.

Jason screamed.

The white hot agony in his head allowed for no other response. His limbs locked in place, so he couldn’t even reach for the helmet, or try to escape the device. His screams lasted until he no longer had a voice, but his mouth still remained open trying to expel the pain. Mercifully his father shut off the machine, and the pain stopped as Jason fell unconscious.

“Gods, Jason! Jason, what have I done?” Jacob rushed to his son’s side, and lifted the limp body from the chair, Jason was breathing, but showed no other signs of any conscious activity. “No, no, no, no!” Jacob moved Jason to a gurney, and then turned. He had to erase the recording of what he’d done. He went to the console and pulled up Jason’s holograph, and started backward from the point that Jason fell unconscious ~Just try not to be blinded, dad!~ a fitting warning. Jacob looked at the holograph and Jason’s mind was lit up like a nova. Jacob backed up to just before he had started the ultrasound manipulation and erased the whole of it.

Jason woke up to the sounds of his screams again, and sat bolt upright in his…hospital bed? He looked around disoriented, and saw the broken glass everywhere. As well as a team of doctors rushing to his side, with his parents just behind them.

It had taken two weeks for Jason to regain consciousness after ‘the reaction’ as the doctors called it. A combination of chemicals had interacted with his father’s device, which caused swelling of the brain. The swelling had gone down, and the doctors seemed amazed by health of the boy’s brain now. Marveling on its response time. The doctors did more tests, and came up with a list of chemicals, from common teenage dietary consumption that interacted with the machine, and warned that they should be avoided if Jacob was to do any more tests.
After his son was released, Jacob handed the doctors a large envelope, but they pushed his hand aside.

“We have no need of your money Doctor Berenzhin. There will come a time when we’ll need your help, and when that time comes, you’ll help. You wouldn’t want your wife and son to know what really happened, or what those chemicals really were, would you?” The greasy smile from the doctor spoke volumes more than his words. The only other thing that Jacob noticed when the man reached to shake his hand was the strange snake tattoo that coiled around his wrist.

From that point forward, while Jason still maintained excellent grades, he seemed a normal student. Much to his father’s hidden chagrin, Jason took an interest in music again, and seemed to start having greater success than before. As the years past it became apparent that here was something to his voice now, something that seemed beyond what normal singers had…

Complications:
Fame: Jason is an up and coming Broadway Star and has done a few low level films that have received favorable reviews and done well at the box office. While not a ‘superstar’, he does have a level of fame so that he gets recognized often, and paparazzi do take an interest.

Weakness: Jason cannot consume processed chemicals that normally are found in much of everyday life. So, no soda. Junkfood is normally taboo (exceptions being some of the Mexican places that actually use real meat, etc).

If you have maps that you want to use, I can set them up on google draw for you.

There is a program called gimp for taking images of PDFs and making them usable files?

It's a full graphics manipulation program, very much like, but not as powerful as photoshop. If you take the image out of the pdf, and then drop it into GIMP, you can do all the manipulations you need, and save it as png, jpg, etc.

I usually use nitro pdf reader which has a function that will pull all the images out of a pdf file so I can save them as png files which seem to be the most versatile. From there I've used them in virtual table top games, pbp, and even blown them up to use in tabletop games. PNG translates best to resizing without losing resolution.

Both Nitro Reader and GIMP are free.

Be warned though if you extract images from a pdf it extracts ALL images. Border images, page numbers, anything that's a separate image ;)

Most PDf readers will let you copy images. PDFXpress is the one I use and you can copy any section of the page. I then use Irfanview to save them as files and use them on map readers.

I just use Adobe

Which one should I be using and which one is the easiest to use and take maps out of?

Liberty's Edge

Honestly I've always just used the descriptive method and it rarely causes any problems.

look for the camera tool on the PDF reader. It will allow you to copy part of the screen.

What Philo said.

I just use Nitro to be lazy, since it will go through a complete pdf and pull all the images from it.

Using Infraview and putting them on the Portal site in a wiki post so far so good

So far we have a great group of potential heroes we are at 20 either entered or interested.

Just as a reminder

May 5th is the last day for being entering some type of character, but you can make changes on your character and get them finished all the way though May the 8th or until you say your character is ready.

Remember we are building a Super Hero Team in the long run.

For Images try to make them art not pictures of read people.

I am really excited for this game and im going to put in extra time on the Obsidian Portal, is there anything more your guys want on there or anything else I can do?

@Jemal AKA Fortune

Questions:
So how do you appear as one and are both the male and female personalities active or do you change and sometimes male and sometime female

Broadway Image

I am definitely interested, and will try and get together a submission for Generator ASAP. Bio's easy enough, I just have to scrounge together a PL9 version of him in 2e. :)

Later on,
Ghorrin Redblade

@ Kelarith/ Broadway yeah he is defiantly silver age looking

Hey folks, just curious. I updated Invictus' background with the altered timeline dates to make it more cohesive. Is there a way to edit a post or do I just need to repost the updated Background?

Thanks for any help!
