Still 5 minutes until time. So you are fine.

If I have any more questions or concerns, I will PM people.

Party time. No, really, it is party time.

And the air thickens with anticipation....

Good luck all!

The Winds of Fate wrote:

Thank you, The Winds of Fate!

Best of luck to all applicants.

And remember to always roll with initiative!

May the Winds of Fate blow favorably.

Best of luck to everyone!

Looks like it ended up being enough submissions for 4-5 tables. Kingmaker is popular. ~_^

Good fortune to everyone. If the event occurs where I do not make the final cut, I wish everyone a great game!

The crowd goes silent as they wait for judges response, hehe.

"This is the worst part, the calm before the battle.'
"And then that battle isn't so bad?"
"Oh, right I forgot about the battle"

I would like everyone to affirm their interest in still playing the campaign by Friday.

If anyone has changed their mind or does not check in before the weekend, I will move on to the next choice down the list.

I thank you all for all of the applications. As you can see I already had to take 6 instead of 5. :)

Awesome - oh, wait, not me. Oh well.

Congrats all.

Congratulations to those selected. Build a kingdom that makes paladins shutter at the mere mention of it's name.

Congrats, everyone that was selected - I like all of your concepts!

Congrats, guys. Go out and conquer!

Aww, shucks. Well, have fun everyone.

Thanks for the invite, look forward to playing the game!

Congratulations to everyone selected!

I am opening the recruit thread back up due to our slayer's absence.

ISO: Ranged fighting type with survival.

If curious about the groups current composition, you may scroll up to the players chose or drop in on the gameplay thread. PCs are currently at Oleg's trading post and I would like to get a new player in before they leave it.

I will have a character ready this evening.

I can submit someone along those line in the next few hours. What do you want in terms of fluff?

I'd like a description of the character and a little bit about their background. Plus, how do you see your character fitting with with a mostly evil group and three potential roles for your character in the future kingdom.

Just made this one for a game I wasn't chosen for. It was a gestalt game so I would need to tweak him but the concept and fluff is all there, couple things like spell selection not done. Let me know.

(Zen archer/inquisitor character who hunts for sport. Can easily mix it up with multiclassing to achieve a similar build.)

Fitting in: he's lawful evil. Lol. As long as he is able to pursue his own sense of self-enlightenment by hunting he's fine. Possible kingdom roles: head inquisitor (obviously), spy master (in charge of it at least), acquiring intel/people/things needed, scouting party leader during wars, or any similar function. He's pretty intelligent and a good tactician.

Edit: He was obviously made gestalt but also a few different creation rules. If selected I would alter those of course (stats were 24 at 1-1, max 20, which can be dropped down to 18, and the campaign feat is basically a trait that was made into a feat). If chosen I'd clean it up and get him set up within an hour, but will leave him as is if not.

I heard there was an opening for me?

Roles and fitting in:

Royal Assassin or Spymaster would fit both in flavor, and with Dex-based bonus.
Marshal would also work out, supposedly.

He would gladly fit in with an evil group, because they would likely not take offense at his "hobby"(see background). He knows better than to judge other people, too. He is good in what he does, but smart enough to know he needs support in other areas. He's not highly social but tends to "live and let live"(except, of course, when he's on a hunt).

Background:

A travelled hunter, Han Yong's prey was usually sentient humanoids. When there's money to be had, he's up for the job.
Mostly, he took on proper bounties, official ones...people who fled and were to be brought back, dead or alive. And here, near the wilderness lands, there were plenty of people who wanted to flee, or disappear.
He brought any and all of those back dead, because he enjoys the thrill of the kill, but he's not so stupid as to break the law to get his fix...unless it pays very well. Now, he heared about this new opportunity, to stake out a new kingdom. No doubt, there would be opposition. There would be bandits. There would be rebels. A great chance to have a very good, and legal reason to partake in his hobby.
He only hoped that he would actually get to enjoy HUNTING for them, because that was half the fun...

Description:

A harsh man, travelling through the wildnerness a lot because of his job, and not quite feeling at home in any place. He stands tall at 190 cm, with about 95 kg of weight, moves very agile(more so than his size would suggest), and has blackish hair and a beard he grooms.

As a player in the game, some advice: Make sure to read the recruitment thread (especially the first post). But there are some other things that came up so it's worth skimming through for at least the GM's posts.

am on it, just wanted to get a first post up ASAP, lest I come back and find the spot filled before I got a chance to post. As for the name, he's an alias originally created for another set, but by all means he should be native to the area.

If the name is offensive, I can just re-make with a different one. But i think other than that, everything is in order.
Evil Teamplayer, check, not following devil lord, check, origin from local, check, build rules followed, check. ranged survival type, check.

Financing scheme:

As others also had suggestion regarding financing of the kingdom, he would also suggest one.

Namely, that prisoners get to take part in a game in a stacked out great wilderness arena, the goal of which is to survive...while visiting nobles, for payment of course, (and himself) get to stalk the area and kill any they find.
The prisoners, starting with knifes, may band together, may build weaponry(bows, spears), may try to escape...it's not a one-sided sport, otherwise there would be no thrill to it.

Ideally, there would be an option for viewing the event as well. I'm thinking a variant on gladiatorial games here, only with an asymetric setup by default. One side is more numerous, ill equipped and fights for survival, the other brings whatever equipment they can afford, pay for participation, and hunt for sport. The viewers may either pay for the best spots, or take the worse ones for free(and possible a public order bonus or crime reduction...since they see where they may end up)

Billy here, everything should be in order.

Description:
Calcifer is a thin wiry man with a murderous heart and lust for wealth. He isn't interested in power by itself, more with with the money he can get with it. He has long black hair and scruffy beard. His skin is pale due to always being covered up. Calcified wears plain black clothing under a heavy black cloak and face mask. A long thin great sword is strapped across his back next to a black gnarled composite longbow and a quiver of arrows with grey goose feather fletching.

fluff:
Calcifer grew up on the streets, he never had friends for long and was often forced to move from town to town, He fed himself by foraging and hunting with a short bow he crafted himself. When he was fourteen a band of mercenaries called The Black Brothers found him and recruited him. He trained and then fought with them for six years. He just recently left the employ of The Black Brothers. Calcified decided to head for Oleg's trading post to self off some skins.

Roles/fitting in:
Calcifer's main interests are making money, killing, and having a good time. As long as he can be doing one of those things he should be content.

As for roles Calcifer could fit well into royal assassin, spymaster, or marshal.

Saw the bit about no eastern flavor. My character would be an inquisitor, but I was solely using the zen archer in the gestalt recruitment as a representation of his discipline in the bow. If it can be considered flavored (or reflavored) to be non-eastern then I would probably multiclass with it to some extent, or can leave it out totally, which is also fine.

The main point is that he was driven to evil by his pride and love of the hunt, and proving himself the best. Becoming the master of the hunt both in skill and position (of leadership) would sit mighty fine with him.

I'll throw Kyra Banior back into the mix, a Sacred Huntmaster Inquisitor of Ghulander.

backstory:

Kyra Banior, Inquisitor of Ghlaunder was boor to a poor farming community in Southern Brevoy. Life was hard but good. Her father worked as a hunter, killing animals for food and fur, and trapping the more exotic ones to sell to traveling traders. Her Mother worked as a seamstress, creating blankets and clothes from the pelts her father brought back to sell and to keep the family warm.
One day however while on a hunt, her father was fatally wounded by a wild Rhino that had come north to graze during the warmer seasons. Worse still, the same Rhino kept coming back year after year to graze, and no one in the community dared trying to attack it, for they felt it was ill to try when a skilled hunter had already failed.

Then during an especially harsh winter, Kyra and her mother’s house was broken into by men covering their faces with bags and masks. They ransacked the house, and took everything of value. The bitter cold of the winter, combined with having no more food or warm furs kill her mother, and she was left alone in the care of the village elder, and old man named Zanthus.

Kyra didn’t know what to think of Zanthus, he has always just been the creepy old man that she avoided, and now she had to live with him. At least she could take some solace in the fact that he was too old and feeble to be one of the men that robbed her house.

She soon learned why he was so creepy, he was a very religious man, but not in any way she had seen before. She had been raised by her parents as a believer in Desna. Though they never attended church often, she knew the stories, and many of the teachings. Zanthus however worshiped in secret Ghlaunder, but instead of hide the fact from her, he told her almost immediately.

She wanted to run and tell someone, anyone that this worshiper of a horrible god was hiding in their town, but he asked her to stay so he could explain himself.

He explained that rarely is it the goal of a parasite to kill the host, for if the host dies, then the parasite dies with it. In nature, does one Mosquito kill a person? No, the mosquito is a nuisance at best, and both creature can live together with little problem. What kills a person is other people, and what kills a community is the weak people.

When there is a plague, is it the wealthy, powerful, influential, productive people that die? No, it is the weakest of the people, the poor, the slow, and the lazy. They drag down a society to their level, and in turn, slowly kill it like a parasite, but this parasite will kill the host, and then it dies. If that one mosquito happens to induce a plague in a city, it is the lowest and the weakest that will die, ensuring that the greater populace, as the host, will live on.

If a plague had wiped out the weak from this community before the winter, do you think people would have needed to rob your house, resulting in your mother’s death? This last part made perfect sense to her, by clearing out weakness, the host can become stronger. She learned much from him over the years about the laws of nature, survival of the fittest and such, until she decided to strike out on her own, but first she would need a strong host, and she knew where to get one.

Waiting for the warmest time of the year, she search and searched for the Rhino that came every year, the same one that killed her father, one that would make a truly strong host. Once she found it, she did not attacking like her father had, she befriended it, tamed it, and molded it into a powerful host and tool for her coming adventures.

character plan:

Sacred Huntmaster gives my inquisitor an animal companion, and I would take the animal domain. Everything I have read says that this would actually get me a second weaker animal companion instead of a stronger animal companion because they are based off the same class levels. If you disagree, let me know and I will just switch to the catastrophe domain, or the spellkiller inquisition.
My plan of the second companion was going to be either a giant slug, some parasite (I couldn't find any, but if allowed I would see about a dire Stirge maybe, or a vermin companion), or a boar (so I could name them Rocksteady and Bebop from TMNT). Kyra herself focuses on ranged combat, using teamwork feats with my rhino like friendly fire to increase damage, and Escape route to avoid damage.

Marshal would be her preferred leadership role, though High Priest, Spymaster, or Assassin would also be fine.

I just made up some roles, but apparently there's a list? lol.

I read all the posts by the DM, but didn't see a set of 'potential roles'. Is it in a player's guide for kingmaker AP or something? I do not have it but could get it if chosen.

I just googled it:

Roles

Thanks. I apparently picked out one or two already. Zaeos would go for:
Marshal, royal assassin, spymaster, or high priest, in that order.

Please click HERE for a link to where you can download the Player's Guide for this AP for FREE.

It is also important to note that you need one of the Campaign specific traits for the game as well that are listed in this guide.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Looked over the player's guide, thanks for the link, looks awesome!

I would pick for the 3rd trait (campaign): Pioneer. Since Zaeos is middle aged, he settled in the wilderness here many decades ago, before most living humans were alive in the area.

Few questions: Would zen archer be considered eastern and not allowed, or would it be ok as long as it's not an eastern flavor to the character? Also, I am assuming the point buy at 25 is the standard one (as in an 18 costing 17 pts?)

ah, thanks for bringing this up. I just realized the SRD wrongly lists "Tough Minded" as a fluffless campaign trait for kingmaker...yet in the players guide it's called Issian.

Not sure if that really fits. May as well just be a bastard of some noble then.
"Mother worked for a local lord in his household. Said lord had a habit of forcing himself on the women working for him. Same he did with my old lady. Says only he could have been the father. Needless to say, the old geezer spawned countless bastards, and acknowledged none of them. Mother died years ago, and the old geezer also kicked the bucket. So I take it, truth is buried with the two of them, not likely his son would be willing to take me in as a brother.
Mark my words, nothing good comes from them nobles. Only way to do proper with them is showing them their place by doing better."

dot for interest.

That's because the SRD doesn't include Golarion specific information (as that's specific to Paizo and not open source). So all references to Golarion are removed.

aye, I'm aware, same thing as with the Gods. Just didn't occur to me that stuff may be there under a different name, which would make it seem as if one did not take a proper campaign trait for someone checking the players guide. thanks though ;)

on another note, I may go offline soon, is there anything else my application would be missing to be considered, before that?(Except for the fact that his background is rather on the shortish side. Obviously I would brush that up more if selected.)

Darius, nope, I think it's filled out enough to be considered.

I wouldn't mind throwing Maralynn back into the mix. I was really hoping to get into this game.

Well, it's not going to be ready by tonight. I wanted to make a Flying Blade Swashbuckler, but I don't have the time that I need. I can have it ready tomorrow. Thanks.

Ok, I have not had time to put together a complete character sheet, but will do so quickly if selected. Here is my submission for this re-recruitment.

May I present Minaene Fainsova - human alchemist.

Background:

Minaena let out a sigh as she looked a the ramshackle outpost ahead. How long do I have to be here anyway. she wondered. Her parents had all but forced her to come to this godforsaken land, or Stolen Lands. Sure, she probably deserved it, and worse, but she would show them, and then she would return to the comforts of Silverhall. Or, perhaps she would go elsewhere and never return to her family. Heck, they had sent her here, why should she go back to their criticism and complaints. Don’t burn the cat. Don’t throw bombs in the barn. Don’t light your brother on fire. Ok, she supposed that her younger brother probably should not have been her test subject, but the priests had managed to heal him, so no harm. Right?

She stretched and resumed her way the last mile or so toward the outpost. As she did so, she checked her gear once more. Flasks, beakers, bottles, lots of chemicals and of course her crossbow. Well, her parents had sent her off with the crossbow, the rest she had stolen from her mother over the past few years.

Growing up had been easy. She loved school, and with a wizard for a father and an alchemist for a mother, finding things to study was never a problem. While she excelled at many subjects, it was alchemy that she truly loved. Her mother began to instruct Minaena at an early age and by the time she was seventeen, Minaena could make most simple alchemical concoctions and was helping her mother in the small alchemy shop she ran.

It was a year or two later that she began to experiment with some of the less stable materials that her mother kept locked up in the back of the shop. Shortly after her sixteenth birthday, she caught a mouse and applied some chemicals to it. She thought the flaming mouse as it squealed running about the rear of the home until it succumbed to the flames was the coolest thing she had ever seen. To say that her mother and father were not pleased when they learned of what she had done was an understatement.

She avoided getting into trouble for the next year, mostly because she performed most of her experiments in the woods outside of the small city. Unfortunately, there was only so long that she could take her mother’s materials before her mother discovered that things were missing. When the missing materials were discovered, it did not take her father long to divine that Minaena was the culprit.

Deciding that the young girl needed some structure and training, she was enrolled in the local garrison to learn discipline. Well, Minaena learned discipline, at least a little, alone with how to fire a crossbow and wield some other weapons. But, what she really learned was that she enjoyed the thrill of the battle, and the sight of blood, at least when it was not hers. On several occasions while practicing with her crossbow, the young shooter accidentally fired the crossbow at one of her fellow trainees, just to see him bleed. The first time or two, the trainer scolded her and the injured guard in training was sent off for healing and medical care. However, when she made this mistake a third, and then a fourth time, it was decided by the commander that perhaps it was not a mistake.

After being “discharged” from the academy, as the commander said, “before she killed someone”, Minaene returned to her parents. To say they were less than thrilled is an under statement. Having recently heard about the Swordlords decision to send groups of adventurers into the untamed lands to the south of Brevoy, her mother and father purchased a small crossbow and gave the girl an instruction - “Learn some discipline, or do not come back.”

So now, two weeks after leaving her parents home, Minaena stands a few hundred paces outside of the outpost referred to as “Oleg’s”, unsure of what to expect or what she should do. With her ability to shoot and her alchemical equipment, she knows she can survive, but on her own she doubts that she will be able to do much more than survive.

I may adjust the ability scores some to boost her Wisdom. She will be reasonably skilled in survival and perception (not +10 or +15, but +4 to +6, decent for level 1). With her Int and 4/level skills, she should be a good secondary skill character along with good ranged and ok melee (about the same as a cleric).

--------

I formerly applied for this campaign with Gileta, my Story Summoner. I really like her, but she does not seem to be what the party is looking for. If the party likes her, the Eidolon can easily be worked as the skill/tracker the party is looking for.

Repeating my post:

Quote:

Current player classes are:

Forgot to list the expected roles for Minaena. Her most likely role would be Magister. If that is taken, she would work well as the diplomat, spymaster or treasurer as well.

Her alignment is neutral, but definitely leaning toward the evil side of things.

Arasmes The Hidden, Human Ranger, NE (Worships Norgorber)

Fluff:
My mother was a princess of the sands, until she had to flee. My father is a dueling master of brevoy, and a fool. He claimed they would make a new life, but all I have ever wanted was my birthright. They named me Dara, for his mother, but that is not who I am. I named myself Arasmes. They say the dragon has two heads in my adoptive home, but to me, there has only been one future. I would not be Dara, the graceful child of her father. I would be Arasmes, the fierce son they never had. I would take my maps and my studies, and go south. It is why we fought, in the end. He lives, by her grace, and I now I flee my home as well. Cursed is my line, to wander in darkness. So in darkness I shall revel. Hear me Norgorber, unspoken lord of secrets. Grant me dominion in new lands, and I will gather for you the lost knowledge.

Roles Arasmes could Fill:

Any of the Dex/Int/Str roles work, I'm flexible. By preference she'd prefer Spymaster or Marshal, but could easily fill in any of General, Assassin, or Treasurer in a pinch.

"So, are we ready to hit the road? Plenty of nice applicants, half of which won't last a week in this wilderness, other half can't handle a proper fight. I'm ready to go any time, so whats the delay?

Pissed because that contracted guy didn't show up? Well, let me just say this much, he helped pay for my travel expenses. Sorry if that caused problems for you guys, but a bounty's a bounty."

Liberty's Edge

Oh, I didn't catch the ranged part.

I might make a ranged slayer, if I have the time. I put one together for Society Play that had been pretty beast so far. I may copy his sheet down and apply.

Question for Ashe..:

I was going to PM this, but I don't seem to get the option when I look at your profile.

You only have several posts up on the board, so I have nothing to judge your posting history by. Can you manage at least one post a day and remain committed to being in a game?

Also, due to your lack of post history, I can't tell your actual gender. I only mention this because I see too many males poorly RP out female characters so I tend to pick those characters less often.

Liberty's Edge

Oh what the hell.

Here is a link to my ranged slayer. If you pick him, I'll make a non society version. Also, a loose backstory (that will be further fleshed if you pick him) is that he is a bounty hunter, but willing to do whatever it takes to get his money.

If a person is wanted dead or alive, and dead is easier, than so be it. If he has to break a law or two to get what he wants, then so be it. As long as he's coming home with more coins than he left with, he's ok.

He's true neutral for this version. As far as roles, spymaster would fit him well. Possibly even the right hand of the king as far as covert missions.

Link is here

Of course, I'd bump him up to a 25 point build and reallocate his gold (since you're giving max) but the mechanics would remain the same, as well as his skills, feats, and whatnot.

Also, I understand your fear of males role playing females. I've seen it go terribly waaaay too many times in the 20+ years I've been playing polyhedral games. It's why I screen all of my games too.
