Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook |
"Well, she's tied up and gagged already, so we don't need to do that. Of course, if she transforms into a werewolf, the ropes might well not hold her when she changes. Since she's no one important, we could just execute her out of hand to be safe. Really, it's up to you, my Lord. You are the final word in this land."
Eduard Petrov |
If we can find a way to keep her controlled, I would certainly wish to study the infection. But public order matters more than idle curiosity. And I'd seek to have her kept isolated far from civilization either way. As I said before, I'm not opposed to simply putting her to death.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Alexander shrugs, Very well. We'll camp here tonight and Andrea will learn if she is infected in the morning. If so, then you may do with her as you wish, Eduard. Study her...or not.
The Winds of Fate |
You all settle down and make camp for the night. The young woman remains unconscious until the full moon begins to rise in the sky. As soon as its light shines upon her, the woman's eyes open up and she begins to scream through her gag. As you watch, her skin begins to sprout fur and her new, sharp teeth cut through the gag in her mount, allowing her to let out a long howl.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
The new werewolf struggles against the ropes binding her, but she is as yet unable to break free and howl again in her frustration.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Alexander chuckles, Looks like it. He watches the girls struggle for a moment. Let's see if she can get out of those bindings. If she survives, Eduard can have her. If not, he shrugs, then she does not.
Eduard Petrov |
After preparing spells in the morning, Eduard will attempt to cast Charm Person on the woman and then wake her up.
DC 16 Will Save
Assuming it is possible, he'll start talking to her, So, do you remember who you are? And do you remember what happened to you last night?
The Winds of Fate |
For spell: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
For memory: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
It is possible to wake up the young woman, though she appears to be very physically weak and still wounded right now.
"Who I am? Of course I do sir, my name is Leah. Please, why am I tied up like this? The last thing I can remember is being attacked some huge, furry beast. I don't even know what night that happened on."
Leah now begins to cry, being scared, hurt and confused about what was going on.
Eduard Petrov |
Eduard nods to Alexander, turning then back to the woman. Leah, you don't remember waking up? You are what we call a lycanthrope. More specifically, a werewolf. He motions to the rest of the party, We killed the werewolf that attacked you because its erratic attacks and uncooperative behavior made it a threat to the kingdom and to public order. You are tied up because we are discussing what to do with you. We are concerned that if you can't remember things, you may not be able to control yourself. While a werewolf ally would be useful, we do not want to risk public chaos.
Eduard turns back to the group, Does anyone know if her alignment has changed? Or if a lycanthrope shifts alignments when they shift forms?
The Winds of Fate |
"A werewolf?! I can't possibly be a werewolf, I don't even like dogs! If you really killed whatever attacked me, then good. I thank you for that, but please let me go. I would never hurt anyone."
Alexander, your previous roll for Knowledge was high enough that while you know that while most werewolves tend to be of a chaotic evil mindset, a werewolf can be be of any alignment, though they may be more driven by their wolf instincts than rational thought.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Alexander frowns, The best way through this, child, is to accept it. If we can help you, we will. But, if you refuse to be helped, it will be more difficult for all of us. He smiles down at her sadly, Eduard would like to study your condition. Unfortunately, you are dangerous to everyone around you. This is especially true on nights where the moon is full. The man crosses his arm and scratches his chin. This situation could be beneficial to you. While you cannot return to your family and friends, working for us has its benefits. We can keep you safe while Eduard conducts his studies. Perhaps even provide tutors and trainers, and eventually, when you can control your condition, you can be of service to your country and not a danger to those you love.
Othniel Laurentius |
Stepping forward, Othniel shakes his head, sadly. "I can assure you, dog-lover or no, you are a werewolf. You may not remember it, but we saw you transform last night. Look at your leg. That creature bit you and passed its...condition on to you. As my lord says, accepting it is the best thing for you now."
Radomir Shax |
It would be an honor to use your condition in the service of the Kingdom. Besides, there are... other ways to deal with your affliction
Finnegan "Devilbow" Rook |
As she seems to begin acceptance, Finnegan feels a sense of relief. He'd never liked killing women out of hand, and while it would have been necessary in this instance, he was glad they'd found an alternate solution.
"You have chosen wisely. This new life will be hard, but you will find a new sense of purpose in it, and emerge a superior person for it. Acceptance is the first step to mastery - as I myself have learned."
Eduard Petrov |
Eduard chuckles softly, We will probably need to lock you in a silver cage, but it will be gilded indeed. And there is no reason for it to be small. Perhaps a silver-lined room to keep you in.
Is there a place for us to store her that is a building in our territory that isn't within "rampage" distance or a town?
Alexander Orlovsky |
Alexander nods, Yes, indeed. Perhaps even just a solid wall with some silver to keep you safe. But, it shouldn't require you to stay inside always. I'm sure we can come to understand your condition and, if possible, you'll only lock yourself inside for the night. With time, and some hard work and study, anything is possible.
Radomir Shax |
Radomir stays quiet as the others talk. He keeps his glaive at the ready, in case the woman tried to attack his Lord or the others. It is good that this woman was bound to serve King Alexander. She is a criminal, and her life is forfeit to the Crown. King Alexander, in his wisdom, chose to commute her sentence, and allow her to serve rather than be executed. Thus, she shall repay her debt to society. Justice is served.
My lord, these are just and proper acts. You set an excellent precedence for the law. Those who are able and can prove useful to the crown could be powerful tools to commute execution, as their life is forfeit once they commit a heinous crime.
Alexander Orlovsky |
This seems to be taken care of. Alexander looks around, Radomir, Othniel, would you mind escorting the young woman to her new home? We can work on sending a smith out there and making it more secure. Andrea, perhaps you and I could look for some suitable furniture for her?
Andrea1 |
Indeed, sturdy bed and dresser. When they arrive back, Andrea gets the quarters furnished. Her training should the same that every militia recruit gets at the start, no special treatment. We can then get her more advanced training with Radomir or even Finnegan and Othniel depending on how we wish to use her.
Radomir Shax |
Radomir nods and takes a firm hold of the woman. It's not cruel, but it's not kind either. Once the woman is secure, he'll ensure she's under guard until the blacksmith can make her cell more permanent.
The Winds of Fate |
Seeing as how the woman will not put up a fight and that it is daylight now, you have no trouble with taking her wherever it is you wish. Also, last night was the last night of the full moon, so you have 27 days to get her safely ensconced somewhere remote and safe.
Once you have returned to the city and dealt with the woman, is there anything in particular people wish to do?
Alexander Orlovsky |
While at the market, shopping for some simple furniture, Alexander will sell off the few remaining items they recovered.
Selling the greatsword +1, hide armor, and javelins. Loot shares would be 197gp, assuming they can be sold for the normal price.
Once finished with that excursion, he approaches Eduard about enchantments, discussing a magical headband aimed at increasing his charisma. Also, he's interested in enhancing his chain shirt.
60gp for Eduard to scribe eagle's splendor
2000gp to craft headband of alluring charisma +2
500gp to enchant mithril chain shirt
Total time: 3 days
The Winds of Fate |
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Andrea, the werewolf's ghost will inform you that he was attacked by a wolf while traveling through the forests of Brevoy near a small village whose name he cannot remember.
Also, Andrea, Eduard is capable of crafting a Handy Haversack if you wish to consult him before buying one.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Leaning over the map, Alexander points to the north and west. We still have the matter of drakes in the woods to deal with. Radomir and the Raven's Guard can patrol the roads, at least, and keep them clear for those going to the temple. He moves his finger down to the south and east, Next, I think, we should head out to the east. Though before that, as Andrea mentioned, we should see to matters more local and make sure things are running smoothly.
Alexander Orlovsky |
Alexander nods, Agreed, though we do need to see to matters of state. And we should give some time to Eduard to create his magical items. Perhaps two weeks and we'll ride to take care of this drake issue. Then, turn our attention to further exploration?
