The Undead fellow seem unconcerned with your conversations and answers the last one addressed to him by Alexander. "I know that I had the only bridge over this river."

Alexander sighs, Of course it is. Anything else? Something useful, I mean. He frowns as he thinks, Soren, how are our maps? If I recall correctly we only have about, what, twelve more miles south to finish out the charter?

Hexes are 12 miles? So one more south should get us to our "60 mile" limit?

Soren, who had remained quiet through the whole "exchange", nods.
Yeah. As for my two copper, I say we throw the damned body in the river and be done with it. This isn't getting us anywhere.

I agree with Soren, we need to dispose of them anyway and the river is as good as any.

Thaliar's mouth turns to smile as he hears the others more or less echo his words. He doesn't say anything though, that would be giving information and apparently they'd rather stay in the dark.

Your group makes good time back to the Stag Lord's fort and retrieves his body. You then head back to burned bridge area and toss the body in the river. As soon as you do so, the undead makes another appearance as he grabs hold upon the the body and drags it down into the water and his watery voice chuckles: "Now it is your turn to burn."

After both bodies are gone from view, the gear and clothing from the undead wash ashore, now in pristine condition instead of the burned and waterlogged condition that they were in before.

Gear includes: a ransuer, a pouch with 47 gp and 32 sp in it, a set of masterwork leather armor

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Andrea uses Detect Magic to see if the polearm is magical.

Well at least we have an unhaunted river crossing that we can rebuild,

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

Alexander chuckles as the equipment washes ashore and shakes his head, That was all you had to say dead man. He shrugs and laughs as he collects the gear. I thought this would go without saying, but apparently it must be said. You all know we're being watched, correct? He pauses a moment, looking around the group, but doesn't wait for an answer. It is far more important how we handle situations than the outcome of that situation. I was willing to handle this matter of the Stag Lord's body...for free even. But why not ask for something? He frowns and shakes his head, And of all people, you should know better than that, Thaliar. If you don't, you should at least know better than to undermine a negotiation. Even if you think nothing will come of it. Hell, especially if you think that. Because your actions meant that nothing could come from it. I don't care if we argue, disagree, or even fight each other. But we don't do it in front of others. He pauses again and rests his hands on his sword belt. Additionally, there is never going to be a time when we act under threats. We cannot afford to, even if it's just to make a situation easier. We are being watched, and even if you're not aware, there is such a thing as reputation. He sighs as he continues, I was willing to throw the Stag Lord in the river...even for free...and even though it cost us a day of travel...right up until the creature threatened us. Then we had to make it clear that we were not responding to threats. He smiles wryly, You especially, Thaliar, need to learn that winning and being correct aren't goals in a social interaction. Neither matters if you don't get what you want. Think about this. Learn from it, or do not. But whatever you do, stop opening that fool mouth of yours when we're trying to accomplish something.

Male Elf Investigator (Mastermind) 3

Thaliar seems to grow angry for a moment but then he simply sighs, "Normally I would agree with you on this Alexander. In this case, however, you made one grave mistake: You assumed you negotiated with a creature with free will and an intact mind."

"I didn't say this in front of it as I did not know if it could still be offended. That thing existed with the sole purpose of enacting vengeance upon the Staglord. There was nothing else left of it. Negotiating is useless if the other party is incapable of truly caring about the outcome. If the Staglord rotted away in his fort this one would simply have lingered here for eternity waiting for a day that would never come." He paused there for a moment, "I know how to negotiate, I spend years making deals with fey in the Gronzi. It is, however, impossible to negotiate with a being that doesn't want anything. This undead didn't want anything, it simply did what it was made for."

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

Alexander looks blankly at Thaliar, You still don't get it? That's... He shakes his head and chuckles. sadly, expected. He turns and mounts his horse.

Loot updated.

It looks like we've been out exploring for a week-ish? How long does it takes to explore a hex? One day or two? If it's been a week, I suggest we head back for a short break.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Still full up here and ready to check more hexes

Male Elf Investigator (Mastermind) 3

"I get that you are paranoid and believe we are under constant scrutiny and you need to prove yourself because of it. Grow up. We're not that important. You are not that important."

He sighs again, "You wanted to negotiate simply to make a point, even though there was no point to be made. If you want to waste your own time trying to make useless points that is up to you, but make sure it's just your own time you are wasting. We are not at some noble's court." His voice sounded like he was teaching a lesson to an insolent brat, which was all Alexander was at this point.

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

Alexander chuckles and he turns in his saddle to look back, Oh, my apologies, I didn't mean to give you the impression this was a discussion. He says, as he readjusts himself and begins to ride forward. That's my fault.

Soren, we'll need to find somewhere to camp for the night. It seems like it will take about a week to search and map the rest of this area south of the post and north of the river? It'd be best of we head back to Oleg's and pick up more food. We can probably stand to stay out a bit longer, but it occurs to me that we could use a few scrolls, given our recent...encounters.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

My healing wand is near full and I still have my spells and plenty of food.

Male Elf Investigator (Mastermind) 3

"Oh no, I apologize. I had forgotten who I was speaking to." Thaliars voice oozed cynicism.

Fool. With such an attitude it was clear the man had been spoiled as a youth and as such he still behaved like a brat. It was time he was taught a lesson in humility. The issue there was Radomir. That poor imbecile followed Alexander like a lapdog. Perhaps there was a way around that, it would require some planning.

Unless someone can forage for me, I will certainly need the food from Oleg's. And being out here isn't exactly wonderful, especially given the time already wasted collecting a body for nothing.

Let us wait until later until you duel.At least bets can be placed.

With the sun setting as you finish the task of dumping the body into the river, you make your camp near the ruined end of the bridge. Since this area had formerly been "guarded" by the undead, it proves to a rather quiet and relatively safe place to spend the night.

Has the party chosen a direction?

Soren chuckles.
All you had to say was that you were hungry, Eduard. I'll head out while you all make camp and see what I can bring in for dinner.

The woodsman dismounts, and takes his bow and a quiver into the woods.
Hell, I would've headed out even if we had a month's worth of dried deer. Too much talking. Why do people always insist on trying to say things in the spaces between words? If you want to fight each other, then just do it, for the gods' sake.

His thoughts remain on the subject of his umcomfotable-ness being so close to other people all the time, and it shows, as it hampers his ability to hunt for the evening.

Since foraging seems more difficult than expected, might we consider a pack animal if we plan to keep exploring for long stretches away from Oleg's? It may slow us down, but it would allow us to keep plenty of food and supplies, Eduard says as he sets up his bedroll at the camp.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Excellent idea, also if we find something valuable out here, we won't need to overburden the horses.

We do have plenty of extra horses. But a few rabbits and whatever Radomir finds will do for tonight. It should only take us a day to get back and we can load up more supplies and head right back out. Alexander says as he builds a fire.

Aye. As we venture further into the wilds, returning to Oleg's will be more difficult. It will do us well to plan accordingly.

Radomir manages to hunt down a small deer to add to the food for dinner and the group is reasonably well fed for that night.

Come morning, the lot of you begin an uneventful trek back to Oleg's. Having recently traveled in the opposite direction, the way is still reasonably clear of any obstructions.

Handwaving unnecessary travel time back....

Once you reach Oleg's again, you see further evidence of civilization come to this land. Not only have more trees been cleared and the rest of the buildings in the fort finally fixed, but there even seems to be a new set of traders in a covered wagon in addition to what looks like a small group of Erastil's faithful in the middle of a pilgrimage.

Oleg will happily greet you guys at the gate and wave you into the fort. "Welcome back friends. This old fort is finally starting to come back to life again. We've finished up all needed repairs, made some headway into expanding to fort and are see some new traders and visitors to the area."

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Excellent. Andrea pulls out a map and shows Oleg. we managed to find an old ferry at this spot that was haunted. The haunt was disposed of and now there can perhaps be another ferryman stationed here when development reaches the area.

With the Stag Lord's fort cleared, we can perhaps have it set up as another trading fort or outpost.

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

Oleg! Alexander calls out with a smile and a wave, Good to hear! We're only back for a short bit to get supplies and head back out. I think the plan is to finish up mapping out the south. He dismounts and looks around. Quite a few people you've gathered. Alexander chuckles and pats his horse, We might need to borrow a few hands to clear out the southern Fort. It might prove to be a useful place to settle down. It's on a river and lake and pretty defensible. Not a bad setup if we can establish a path from here to there.

After cleaning down his mount and storing his gear, Alexander goes to check on the new "workers" at the Fort, making sure that they haven't been causing any problems.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Andrea buys a few more rations and is ready to continue.

I think I have forgotten to mention that the ranseur is a +1 weapon if you looked the undead fellow's stuff with detect magic.

Alexander finds that the new "workers" have been behaving themselves so far and have done a decent job of assisting in the expansion of the fort.

During the talk of the ferry and other fort, Oleg darts off to grab his own map and adds the areas to it, trying to think of the best ways to connect all three. "Having both forts and a ferry all under the control would certainly lockdown any unwanted intrusions into this area. Certainly make it safer for travel and settling."

Did anyone else wish to do or buy anything before continuing on?

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

We'll be spending more time out there, so Andrea had the idea to bring one of the pack mules out with us. You wouldn't happen to have some decent tents for sale, would you? He calls out to the others, Andea! Soren! What do you think we need for supplies that we don't have? We've got a pack mule, a couple of shovels, and saddlebags. We could bring the fishing poles...just in case? He says with a shrug. Maybe some extra rope.

Oleg, we're going to need plenty of food. It might take us some time to clear out the Fort and set it up. Maybe we could get some help from Kesten and his men once they finish up their work here? In any case, we've got some mapping to finish up.

Male Elf Investigator (Mastermind) 3

Thaliar lets Alxander do the talking with Oleg and instead moved inside and passed by Svetlana to say hi before moving to his bunk to stock up on some of the alchemical reagents he had run short of on the road.

Afterwards he moves back to the area where the others were convening, "Will we be spending the night here? I think we can all use a good night's sleep and some of Svetlana's great cooking."

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

I would like to, no sense running off right away, but after we head out we should push to finish the map.

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

Alexander nods, That sounds good to me. We have two large areas of our chartered area to finish. To the south, and what's west of the forest. We can spend a week or so to the south and I think Soren and I will have all the notes we need for a solid map. The west will require a bit more time, I should think. We could spend some time working on the fort to the south before doing that. Or we could just get it over with while others fix and clean it for us. Alexander shrugs, Both have their advantages.

Male Elf Investigator (Mastermind) 3

"We could start by finding the quickest route between here and the fort, preferably without going through the woods. Open road gives less opportunity for new bandits to move in." Thaliar sits down next to the others, sorting out some reagents on the table in front of him.

"Might just be me, but that fort looked like it needed a lot of work. It might be worth it to attract someone with an eye for such things."

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

I agree with Andrea. We should know the area before we lay claim or defend it. We may find ourselves with our boot in a hornet's nest if we do.

He ponders for a moment, clearly working hard to come to decisions. With the map, I could lay out areas for possible fortifications.. once we have the resources..to control and maintain the peace in the region. It is a long-game solution, but it would be best to prepare, now. It might even help us focus our efforts in exploring the area.

He breathes deep and gives a small sigh, clearly exhausted from having to concentrate for so long.

Male Aasimar Bard (Animal Speaker) 6 , HP 46/46, AC 22 [Touch 16, Flat 17], CMD: 23 Init +4, Perception +0 (60' Darkvision)

Alexander nods, Very well, we map first. I'll talk to Oleg about finding people to work the other Fort an, if we find a path, maybe try to expand it for safer travel. He stretches and yawns. Now, we should get some of Svetlana's food and find a cot. Better than sleeping on the ground!

Andrea has a hearty meal and settles down for sleep so she can be ready to head out in the morning.
All set to head out

Oleg answers Alexander's questions: "Of course we have some tents here. I've always been sure to keep a supple of all the core items someone traveling through the woods might need. Off the top of my head, I think that I have a couple one person tents, about 5 two person tents and one pavilion. I also have several large, oiled clothes that can be either underneath a tent or to just stretch out between tree branches to provide some cover. I have plenty of rope for sale too. I think you all brought back a large amount of rations from that stag lord's fort. It all looked safe and completely edible."

"As for Kesten, cleaning up and manning the southern fort would likely be a good job for him. He really wants a job with a bit more authority. Might be that he could even write back home for a few more guardsmen to come out here and join him if they actually had something to do."

Oleg will walk with your group over to the table area where Svetlana is laying out a rather large repast. "Welcome back mighty explorers. Please, help yourselves to something to eat. No doubt you're tired of trail food by now."

After the meal, your group can find actual beds to sleep in for the night and then spend next morning preparing to head out to explore once again.

You guys are heading to the South first?

Andrea awakens ready to finish their map in the morning

Bright and early in the morning, the group sets out from Oleg's yet again. This time with the intent of finishing up the explorations of the southern boundary of their charter.

The group first head down along the edge of their explored territory, ending back up at the ruins of the bridge crossing where you put that undead to rest. Knowing that area to be explored and likely still cleared, you go ahead and camp there for the night, wanting a good night's rest before continuing on into new lands.

After an uneventful night, your group wakes, readies itself and then continues onwards into fresh territory. You ride over hills sparsely dotted with vegetation and stunted trees, which makes the old sycamore you spot stand out all the more. The tree itself must be a good 100 feet tall at least and can be seen from a great distance.

knowledge local dc 12:
The 100-foot-tall tree is a well-known landmark and is visible for miles around—but is also well known to be infested with mites.
