The door to the Golden Piton burst open, sending a gust of cold wind into the barroom, blowing out several candles and instantly souring the mood in the room. Every bystander in the inn wears a look of alarm but no one voices any such concerns. The familiar hooded lizardman strides confidently into the inn, followed closely by a gaggle of lackeys -- both human and lizard. Seeing the party so conveniently gathered up at a table he and his group make their way toward your table.

The leader's slippery voice breaks the silence, "sssssYess. You've got a ssslot of nervessss sshowing up here. Thissss is our city, and we--" He stops short as his reptilian eyes are drawn to the veracity brooch on Catcher's cloak.
"Thisss... this cannot be!"

Another figure enters the inn. This one seems out of place among the sea of green-robed worshipers; he is an elf wearing an expensive robe of the deepest blue -- and wearing a look of malevolent hatred on his face so palpable you can almost smell it. He dusts off errant snow from his shoulders and sits at the bar, never taking his eyes off of your group and the growing scene of potential conflict. The bartender turns away from the lizardman and hustles to pour the new arrival a drink. He pours a glass of wine and backs away as if it were a venomous snake.

The robed lizardman looks hard at the blue-robed elf, pauses as if to say something, then turns back to the group. "I don't care ifsss you think you iz one of ussss, I will see you all dead!"

Oh goodie. Round two with the scaly ones.

Gromff hops off his chair and stands in front of the others. "Why don't ye through a hissy fit some else ye walking eel, lest ye want a dented noggin."

If they have weapons out he draws his, otherwise he folds his arms over his chest and glares daggers. This might just work out for them if they played their cards right. They could talk up the misunderstanding or point out the lizard was seen making a deal with one of the devil's representatives. The elf at the bar seemed to be important but this was a weird way of administering justice.

So fast! Roland did not imagine they would come after them so quickly, since they would need to gather another group of thugs to face the good guys. It seems they have a large group indeed. The barbarian was about to tease the man into combat, but after his friend's comments he decided to tease him out of combat, just in case the blue man is someone important. "What? You're mad about that little nothing? Common man, that's water under the bridge! I see multiple things going on here in your posts. Does anyone want to try a diplomacy check? Intimidate check? Initiate combat? Something else entirely. I need to know the answer to some of these before I respond properly.

Tactical Map

Gromff,
I forgot to answer your question from two posts up -- you are armed. We can assume you have possession of the adamantine morningstar since it is only lunchtime and Catcher hasn't yet had time to begin her enchanting.

RE: your sense motive roll -- The lizardman is itching to fight. You think he will attack at any given moment -- that said, you sense great trepidation from him because of the elf at the bar. In fact you keenly sense that he might have attacked you already if it weren't for the unsettling presence of the blue-robed elf. You sense one more thing--the lizardman is furious that your group isn't intimidated by him and his posse.

The lizardman seems at a loss. He is visibly trembling with anger, but is restraining himself for some unknown reason. Miro's guileless calm is angering him further; the attempts at diplomacy are having the opposite intended effect. His forked pink tongue flicks out again and again, tasting the air for any scent of fear.
Catcher I'm assuming you're still in possession of Gromff's veracity brooch because I don't recall any RP or discussion about it other than your initial examination.

After a few tense moments he takes a swipe at the table, knocking several of your lunch plates filled with half-eaten food to the floor. He then says "Exsssscept the girl, you all are under arresssst. I will have your headssss for your crimesss. Come quietly or thissss will get ugly...sssss"

The blue-robed elf's eyes go wide, as does his malevolent toothy smile. He is clearly thrilled about something.

Now hearing that the each received payment (and therefore veracity) followed by the presentation of another brooch and commendations, you fear that the poor lizardman's primitive reptilian brain might burst a vein. He suddenly looked up and screamed in frustration, knowing he'd be beat.

"Thisss isn't over, mammal-flessssh." In draconic he then barks "Czaress!" which means "depart". His large posse slowly makes for the door followed by their deflated leader.

The elf at the bar begins laughing uproariously. It is an ugly, joyless, vindictive laugh. He turns back to his wine and gulps it down in a few swigs in a most un-elflike fashion.

Through the entire altercation the half-elf merely watched on, ready to fall in with the group no matter the outcome, his hand at his side and his thin fingers gingerly brushing the fletching of an arrow at the quiver on his hip. He knew his weaknesses, and adding his own comments would do nothing to ease the tensions in the room. He wasn't fully aware of the history between the party and this lizard, but obviously they had crossed paths before in a less-than-friendly manner. What a shocker there.

His eyes moved over the strange figure at the bar, and he wasn't sure what to make of the man. He was obviously someone of importance, but he remained quiet through the conflict, merely sizing up the group rather than interfering with the potential clash. The man commanded a certain amount of respect, or was it pure fear, based on the reactions of the barkeep and those around him. Based on the man's reactions it was almost obvious that he wanted to see the two groups engage in a fight.

It's almost as if she's trying to get us killed.

At the inevitable verbal battle that ensues once the lizardmen exist the Golden Piton the half-elf rolls his eyes. It had become tiresome already to listen to, and far too common. "Please, do you two always need to be at each other's necks? I think it's obvious we have bigger problems. Who were those creatures?"

Hearing the man in robes speak, Adakos turns his attention to him. He had no idea of the statements were true or not, but he was curious about this one.

Catcher,
You were walking away from the inn, still angry about the exchange with your friends, and so your attention wasn't on your surroundings.

Catcher walked down the lane, still upset over how her friends treated her just moments ago. In broad daylight and with no reason to feel afraid, she suddenly comes under attack! Two twangs and two bolts fly out from a shady alley and pierced the mage's skin deeply, almost knocking her over from the force of impact. Looking to the alley Catcher saw multiple figures hiding, some crouching with crossbows in their hands.

Gromff was all prepared to say no in the most determined way he could when their resident wizard screams in pain. Durned fool walked right into the lizards hands not doubt. She couldn't have gotten far but that was too far for his liking right now. Out of the pouch at his side he pulls a horn and blows a tremendous note.

Move to get Horn of Fervor. Standard to blow it. Forgot what it does though. I think it gave all allies that hear it a +10 to movement for some amount of time.

This guy, is he all there? Or does he really think that his haughty actions will elicit a favorable response from strangers.

Adakos, suddenly hearing the cries of pain, deftly moves to the door, following the others, his bow in his grasp.

Only a matter of time...

What? Who would attack me like this? The mage thinks her thoughts snapping from vegence plotting to her own survival.

What she would have done first was to run back inside, but her 'allies' had hurt her in ways the bolts would never be able to.

And if she fleed her enemies would have time to hide again. This against her best judgement she would stay.

The mage move back some feets while casting a protection spell.

move to get away from them and cut any straight line to avoid charge, standard to cast mage armor, free action to drop on the ground for bonus against ranged attack. AC 17 (21 against ranged).

Tactical Map

No map for this one, gang. Not enough worthy combatants to make it worth the time.
Gromff, you are correct. "Horn of Fervor, it (now) has 4 3 charges left. Standard action, use 1 charge to give allies who can hear the horn +10 base movement for 10 rounds.

Roland leaps up first and runs to Catcher's aid. Not waiting to see if the door was locked or not, he swung his hammer at it, smashing the door and some of the frame to splinters.
Miro, hot on Roland's heels, has a clean egress through the newly-made portal.
Gromff & Adakos both follow suit, leaving the barroom in haste.

The party sees Catcher lying on the ground, lowering her profile to make herself a smaller target. Her clothes are torn by two protruding bolts, each leaving a spot of blood-wet cloth clinging to the mage.

Her attackers can be seen across the street hiding in the shadows of an alley where they are using crates for cover. Seeing the vicious retributive heroes emerging from the inn, they make a hasty retreat deeper into the alleyway. It looks like 3 or 4 enemies.

Actions? Giving chase? Letting them go?

Obviously not letting them go! :)

How far are they at this point? Can any features be made out? I.e. are they human, lizardmen, etc.?

Adakos emerges from the inn and takes in the scene before him. The cowards running down the street in fear had attacked Catcher in broad daylight! Quickly he moves to the woman's side, leans down and checks her injuries. Heal Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 "Catcher, can you stand?" he asks, noting the bolts protruding from her body. The injuries didn't look life threatening, but the bolts were deep and he had no doubt of the pain involved.

He tenses himself, ready to give pursuit, but giving the others a chance to close the distance without him getting in their way. He wasn't worried that they could outrun his aim.

These guys don't make many friends.

Miro nods to Catcher, speeding down the street after the ambushers. If they are clumped up, he casts a spell at them to make their egress even slower. If not, he double moves, moving to an opposite side from Roland, trying to herd them and cut them off.

Roland moves past the hurt wizard and after the closest target. With his increased speed it should not be a problem. He rages when close to the enemy and will use all his movement and abilities to prevent the monsters from escaping. No Escape, AoOs and Step up. After all, he warned the cultist about his abilities, but they should taste it.

Not sure how we are doing this without a map or an init roll, so posting what would be my follow up actions.

On Catcher's word, the half-elf nods and sights down the fleeing thugs. He takes aim and lauches a volley of arrows towards them down the alley.

Attack #1: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 = 16 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Attack #2: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 11 - 2 = 21 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Attack #3 (Haste): 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 - 2 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Not sure what variables are active for this, but he isn't using Deadly Aim because of the potential cover from allies. Without cover he'd go full attack with Deadly Aim. I'm guessing these are lizardmen, but if they are humans then there's an additional +2 to hit and damage. As long as they haven't left 110' distance they are still in his first ranged increment.

I can do a map if you want one GM. We could also use something like this

Tactical Map

Thank you Roland, but it won't be necessary this time.

Adakos runs to Catcher's tumbled form to check on her health. She is certainly wounded by not remotely near death. Scanning the scene for enemies, his gut ranger instincts tell him that the 3 men in the alleyway are humans, not lizardfolk.

Catcher loudly calls for chase, then fortifies her friend's abilities with an arcane buff - crimson light waves flash around all of her friends then wink out a moment later. Haste rocks!

Adakos looses a volley into the alley, one arrow hitting each man squarely in the back, but they continue their attempted escape.

Miro is the first to run up. He easily outpaces the men with his magically enhanced speed. Taking advantage of the narrow alleyway, Miro places his signature grease on the ground in front of the men. All 3 of them slip and tumble to the ground in heap as they enter the area of effect; their forward momentum gave no chance to carefully trod the glossy ground.

Gromff and Roland both reach the fallen men seconds later, their weapons raised in angry retribution. There is little chance to miss here considering they're prone, you guys are buffed, they're wearing little armor, etc etc. We'll assume you hit. Blood flies as the pair bashes the pathetic fleeing would-be assassins.

Gromff, Roland: are you guys going to keep any of them alive? You have the upper hand here.

Tell-tale leathery heavy flapping sounds seem to be drawing nearer. The skirmish has drawn the attention of something draconic. Adakos and Catcher, neither of you are in the alley and therefore can see that there are two drakes flying in to investigate. A forest drake and a fire drake. They are flying extremely fast and will be here in seconds.

Roland raises his Earthbreaker to exterminate the last bandit who raised against Catcher! If anyone needed to attack the wizard, it would be Roland and no one else! But someone can get in the way, if you want.

Roland and Gromff both recognize all three of the men as being part of the lizardman's posse back in the inn just minutes ago.
