It's a magic weapon that can skin a freaking corpse we have right in front of us and turn it into armor!!! Common guys, I want a dragon breastplate!
Plus, we can trade it for something else later, instead of just giving it away. The dagger will help us get where we need, so please let's keep it.
Veronica |
OOC, I would not be against keeping the knife. I have some Survival skill, but an aid would always be helpful.
IC, Veronica can be swayed either way. Helping the local community definitely appeals to her moral senses, but if we need it then she isn't against taking it for the cause.
Gromff Hammerhand |
Holy crap, I thought we were going SOUTH of Archdale, not east.
I did too. I'd rather stay away from the Smokey mountains honestly. The devils are currently assaulting the dwarven home there. I'd rather we go south first, then east to avoid them. Maybe check on King's Crown while we are at it. See if the dragon lady's mood has changed.

I don't understand why you don't want to go there, but I'm ok with it, but there's nothing for us in King's Crown man. We've found out what we needed there, and now our faces are well known. The moment we step close to it we're screwed.
Gromff Hammerhand |
We wouldn't be going there but if we do, Gromff might not be able to avoid trying to help. As much as he talks of duty, it is his home and in the vision it didn't look like things were going well. He stuck his nose in here. His home is in even worse shape.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Feel free to post or comment about the dragonhide situation. For now, I apologize for not getting up a 'nudge' post to keep the story moving. I will post tomorrow and do so, getting the party back up and moving on the journey.
To help my upcoming post - Gromff mentioned stopping by Kingscrown. Shall I narrate as if that is your first destination? It sounds like Roland doesn't think that's a good idea!
-What about Sweetwaters? Stopping by there, or skirting it towards Broaklesh?
Roland, just Roland |
I vote towards Broaklesh.
Aside from the coolness I see o real point in using the dragonhide armor. Can anyone make a breastplate out of it?
Catcher |
Kingscrown is where Catcher kinda-date lives right?
If yes, I would like very much to go there and say hello, and maybe who knows get some new spells and magic components as well. :)
Catcher |
Okay.
I know this novella has been going on for quite a long time now.
I’m facing some issues which I don’t really feel like burdening you guys with. For now, I’ll be taking a time away from the boards until I can settle things, couple of days, week at maximum.
I apologize for the inconvenience once again :(
Gromff Hammerhand |
So that's one for south, one for east, and one meh. Looks like Veronica is going to have to be the tie breaker. That or GM can make a call and say something prevents us from going one way or the other.
Veronica |
I say we go back to Archdale!
Just kidding. Actually, by my count, it looks like the count is:
South: 1
East: 1
Not East: 1
So, how about south to Kingscrown (re-provision), get over the river, take a berth around Sweetwaters and head into the wild?
Roland, just Roland |
You need to know. Kingscrown is a city ruled by one of the harbingers, which is a colossal green dragon, which bodyguard we killed in our last meeting (a blue dragon) and since ten we fled the city with a wind walk spell. I really suggest NOT going there. Gromff favor not going close to the mountains, but we don't need to go close to them to reach Brekloresh...
Veronica |
Ah, that is good to know. Yeah, I've only read up to where you guys got the Dwarven griffon riders to take you to the falls.
Ok, so we have plenty of reason's to not go to some places. Do we have any reason to go to Brekloresh and not just straight into the untamed wilds?
Catcher |
Well.
It went surprisingly well, all things considered.
My father, which was already at the hospital for some months passed away yesterday.
I have mixed feelings; I’m sad because he left, but I’m also happy because he isn’t suffering anymore.
That and the accident has been taking a toll on my mental and physical health. If you guys remember it’s the second motorbike accident in the last few months.
I was anticipating some problems with the insurance company, which thankfully never happened. The ceremony is done, the man is finally resting.
Thanks for your support and patience.
-Macézar
:O yep, that’s my name.
Gamemaster Zedth |
I'm so sorry to hear that Macé. I just read your post to my wife; she and I want to wish you a swift recovery (in more ways than one) and we hope your heart endures this challenge well. Take all the time you need.
On a significantly lesser scale, I'm having some difficulties in my own life and as a result I've been exhausted this week. I am going to postpone my next post until this weekend sometime, so let's all take a break for a few days and recharge our batteries.
Veronica |
Hey everyone, an electrical storm came by Friday night and it has knocked out my internet at the line. And my ISP won't be out to fix it until Tuesday evening, EDT, at the earliest. I'm currently at a McDonalds just to post this... -_-
So until then feel free to DM PC me as needed.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Thanks for the headsup - i hope everything works out soon for you.
Sorry for lack of posting lately. I'm back now. Post(s) are coming in next couple/few hours.
Catcher |
So, let’s talk about crafting:
Blue dragonhide breastplate: 700gp
Craft:
- Find the item's price in silver pieces 7000/2 = 3500sp.
- Find the item's DC from Table: Craft Skills : 10+6+1: 17
- Pay 1/3 of the item's price for the raw material cost: Assuming we have the hides
- Make an appropriate Craft check representing one week's worth of work:
Craft skill: 7 + 5 (int) +3 (class) +2 (tools)
Take 10: 10 + 7 + 5 + 3 + 2 = 27 X 17 = 459
3500/561 = 7,6 weeks.
==//==
So, following these rules, Catcher would need, with help from the locals 6 weeks to craft a breastplate.
Assuming those same values:
Take 10: 10 + 7 + 5 + 3 + 2 = 27 X 20 = 540
16500/660 = 30,55 weeks to create a fullplate.
--
Under those conditions, it's not very welcome trying to craft armors in the game. Takes too much time, and honestly Catcher thinks the world is about to end in the next weeks, or something like that.
Edit: fixed some wrong numbers.
Catcher |
One possibility, if the DM don’t mind using the rules like this, is to go about in the town and hire crafters them to create ‘parts’ of the armor, and then Catcher only assembles the whole thing.
In this case, assuming from here for 5,6gp peer week, we would be able hire someone barely able to pass the breastplate DC.
Take 10: 10 + 7 = 17 * 17 = 289
Which means: We would need 12 smithers to craft the breastplate in one week.
Catcher |
Shopping list:
- Elven Chain
- Scroll of Mirror image
- Scroll of Blink
- Scroll of Dimensional Anchor
- Scroll of Stoneskin
- Scroll of Fire Shield
- Scroll of Monstruos Physique II
Gamemaster Zedth |
Rules. Pesky rules. They so often get in the way of fun.
If only I had phenomenal cosmic power to arbitrarily swat troublesome rules aside...
Oh wait, I do!
--------------
You can find a blacksmith (dwarven even, one who respects and honors the fact that you travel with a dwarf into a city that is not particularly friendly to dwarves) that will rent you the space and lend a hand with making the breastplate(s). For a mere 300 gp you can have access to the smithy and forge, a full team of smiths, and you can craft a pair of dragonhide breastplates in 1 week.
50% to find Elven Chain: 1d100 ⇒ 31, success
25% to find Mirror Image: 1d100 ⇒ 70
25% to find Blink: 1d100 ⇒ 66
15% to find Dimensional Anchor: 1d100 ⇒ 42
15% to find Stoneskin: 1d100 ⇒ 62
15% to find Fire Shield: 1d100 ⇒ 8, success
15% to find Monstrous Physique II: 1d100 ⇒ 98
Catcher, you may purchase Elven Chain and a scroll of Fire Shield at book cost.
Gamemaster Zedth |
We haven't heard from Gromff or Roland yet today, and Veronica last said there were internet/computer issues.
Does anyone else have shopping/trading up they'd like to do while in the city? A wishlist like Catcher provided?
Catcher |
So, while I'm at it, and let me take a ride into that generous offer...
Are the hides we got enough for one breatplace and one fullplate (if Gromff wants to get a dragonhide full plate, of course)?
Catcher |
I've been trying to reach Roland but he isn't available on his phone too.
Maybe something happened?
Roland, just Roland |
Sorry, I was waiting for you to solve this detail to see if I would get a new breastplate or not. Plus, aside from having two partially erupted mandibular third molar for decades, now at the age of 30 my right maxillary third molar has decided to erupt coming out sideways, which is giving me a constant headache and driving my attention away from the pc.
I'm gonna try to post later today.
Gamemaster Zedth |

No unfortunately not. You have enough scales to make 2 breastplates. For flavor's sake, remember that you folks also picked up some large green scales from Asariel's lair, which can be used to make the armor more colorful.
(Green, White, and Blue scale armor! Just like the flag of Sierra Leone, Africa!...lol)
Veronica |
Hey all, I'm back!
The lightning fried everything. They even had to rerun the lines. There were apparently two lightning strikes on our street. Not my house though, thankfully.
As far as a wishlist, I've got no money so I'm good. : )
Catcher |
Well, since no one said anything else, I’ll start my crafting plans!
Craft(Armor) DC 17: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29
Blue Dragonhide
Craft(Armor) DC 17: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 2 = 25
Green Breastplate
Then, enchant some things:
Roland's earthbreaker with furious:
Base Price: +1
Total price: 4000gp.
DC 5+8(CL)+5(Don’t have spell)+5 (Accelerated crafting) = 23
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
The blue breastplate and the Elvenchain:
Spellcraft DC 5: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34 Enchant Breastplate
Spellcraft DC 5: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20 Enchant Elvenchain - Redecorated
Using Pulp and Sap to cover the price of enchanting both armors.
--
Talking about prices:
Catcher: 5150 (Elven Chain)
Roland: 4000 (Weapon), 300 Blacksmith : 4300
==
One last thing:
GM, what's your thoughts on Armored kilt?
Total time spent: One week and one day!
Catcher |
I'll create a gameplay post for all that crafting in some hours.
Catcher |
Urgh.
Just notice my mistake. It should be a white/green breastplate instead of only green.
Roland, just Roland |
Awesome! Roland wanted a furious weapon since he was a little barbarian!!
BUT, I think Catcher should adventure in something that gives a little more protection, like this
Catcher |
Oh yeah! Bikini mail baby!
Gamemaster Zedth |
Either of those linked armors for Catcher would be good. I think we can agree on that.
Catcher,
RE: Armored Kilt - I'm okay with it. Its cons seem to outweigh the pro of +1 armor bonus, so if someone is willing to lower their movement speed, lower their max dex bonus, then have at it.
Question about the Elven Chain - what are you enchanting it with?
Gamemaster Zedth |
Question about the Elven Chain - what are you enchanting it with?
Nevermind, I misunderstood.
Catcher |
Elvenchain isn't a magic item, I'm just enchanting it with +1.
On a side note, if Veronica wants, we can enchant the white/green dragonhide breastplate for her. Although I don't think she'll want to stop using that darn good mithril breastplate!
Veronica |
Yeah, I'm good with the breastplate. At least until I can find enough mithril to get it turned into fullplate. Or if some... celestial plate should come along... hint hint wink wink
Catcher |
Or if some... celestial plate should come along... hint hint wink wink
I've tried. The Bad, evil, inhumanly cruel Gm didn't allow. :(
Catcher |
Really bad couple of days at work.
I’ll try to update later, if I can.
Roland, just Roland |
Veronica wrote:Or if some... celestial plate should come along... hint hint wink winkI've tried. The Bad, evil, inhumanly cruel Gm didn't allow. :(
I think I still have that in the wish list in my profile somewhere...
Gamemaster Zedth |
(wow, posting at work is working right now, not sure why...)
The celestial plate isn't off the table, it just wasn't on the table last time anyone asked for it!!
Gromff,
On your post about buying magic items, I assume by "buy" you mean "have Catcher craft"... is that correct? (based on your half-price calculations)
Catcher |
The celestial plate isn't off the table, it just wasn't on the table last time anyone asked for it!!
>.>
Gamemaster Zedth |
Stop me if I am wrong but I believe we still have a tiara worth 7500 to sell. I think the post I mentioned it got overlooked. I forgot myself. That's 1875 per person.
The Cloak of Resistance is the only thing that can be crafted by a party member right now (as far as I'm aware), but more to the point your rings already offer you a resistance bonus of +1. The other three items are available for purchase, though at full book price.
What type of bonus is the saves from the ring? Untyped? Stacks?[/ooc]
•+1 Resist to saves
•+1 Deflection to AC•+1 Bonus feat (Please identify/tag this feat somehow on your character sheet.)
•1/day spend a swift action to gain a move action
•+1 "GM bonus" to wearer's armor. (This bonus stacks with existing enhancement bonuses up to +2, totaling up to a +3 bonus)
•+1 "GM bonus" to wearer's weapon. (This bonus stacks with existing enhancement bonuses up to +2, totaling up to a +3 bonus)
Roland, just Roland |
Talking about prices:
Catcher: 5150 (Elven Chain)

Actually, since my Earthbreaker is already +1 (without the ring addition) the price to enchant it to +2 (+1 furious) would be only 6k, or 3k if crafted. On the other hand, there's the 500gp for the +1 enchantment of the breastplate, which almost even things out.
@Everybody. I've updated the loot sheet, keeping the link, so we can depart with Adakos and have our own loot with the interference. Adakos is no longer with us in these last loot sale, but we still had the right to some of it. What should I do with his part? Split with the three old members, the four actual member, or send his share over wire transfer? (either way we're gonna end up below WBL, I think, not counting the ring overpowers, of course).
@Veronica, would you like to tell how much money did you start with so I can update your column for you to use?
@Everybody: would any of you like to use the ring of climbing before we sell it to strangers?
Gamemaster Zedth |
Yes, you can sell them for the same price as medium sized versions, at half price.
--------------
Are you guys below wealth-by-level? I did some quick counts a little while back and I thought I had you guys fairly well stocked up. Forgive me if I was wrong. Please, everyone do a quick audit of where you're at in the treasure department.
The table shows level 7 to be at 23.5k gold.
For the record, I've never felt the need to adhere too strictly to that chart but it is a decent guideline nevertheless. One thing I don't like about it is its tendency to exacerbate the player's drive to min/max, or at the least make a player feel undervalued if they don't have "enough stuff." It is a delicate balance to make sure I don't go overboard.
