@Roland
Don't get me wrong.
I'm not against telling Littledragon about the harbingers and such.
I'm against making it wide spread knowledge.
And if you did not noticed, Littledragon and Xavious are single individuals among entire factions.
Roland, just Roland |
Well, they seem like the leader of all this. Xavius the leader, and Littledragon the Counselor, anyway.
So is everyone ok with telling them about Aerseni and the gem?
Roland, just Roland |
I think you are confusing some things guys. The dragon we hit in the camp was not the same gargantum dragon we saw outside of sweetwaters, but just one of its subordinates, right Zedth?
Also, there were several other dragons loyal to him, and those might be a problem for us cause, if one of them see us, we don't have many options to escape... Nor to kill them if they take flight...
Miro Ammar |
I was thinking this was more of an investigative sortie. I don't think we had any intention of slaying the dragon at this time. More like trying to figure out what it's motives are, exactly, and possibly steal away one of the harbingers if one is indeed there.
Gromff Hammerhand |
I am referring to the one that did a flyby but didn't kill us. THe thing at the camp wasn't a dragon. I was a drake.
Gamemaster Zedth |
I've been a bit away too :) I had a busy weekend. Forgive the lack of posts, i'll try to get up another good one by my lunchtime today.
Catcher |
I've talked with Roland, and it seems he don't have internet at home due to some problem (heavy rains I think).
Not sure when the issue will be solved, but he'll be back (I believe) in a day or two.

Hey there! There’s a big system delivery planned for next week for our company branch in India, a Project I’ve been struggling with for a couple of months now.
Alongside with that, we are moving an entire project from testing to Live servers, and I’m the one responsible to help with this transition and solve any issue that may (and believe me, will) appear with it.
I still have some things to finish before we are ready to do this, and I’m sure I don’t want to be the one blamed for any delays, and thus because of that, things may get a bit tricky for the next weeks, coupled with university terms starting as well next week.
Anyway, I’ll try to keep posting to at least 1/day. However, if you don’t hear from me for a day or two, I blame the events that I described above.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Understood. I will bot Roland as needed for now, and bot Catcher if the need arises.
Thanks for the update. I hope your project goes smoothly.
Tessandriel Siannodel |
Ok so, Google Docs is way different than the last time I logged in and it's frustrating the hell out of me. I'm trying to get a combat map up but the old way I used to do it doesn't seem to be an option anymore.
The page used to ask what type of document I wanted to create, to which I would reply: Drawing.
I don't see this option anymore. I'm working on it, but I wanted to apologize for the lull.
No problem!
Gamemaster Zedth |
Tessandriel,
If you're using the fire gem on your bow, don't forget that it makes your bow the equivalent of a +1, flaming bow. Yes, the devils are immune to flames, but the extra +1 to hit/dmg helps!
Also don't forget Miro's song (another +1/+1) and your Aspect of the Falcon (+1 competence bonus).
Gamemaster Zedth |
Everyone,
While we're in combat it would be very helpful to me (because I tend to forget things or not notice...) if you all added a line at the top each post that detailed what buffs/debuffs you have active at the time.
Something like:
Active buffs: Protection from evil, Bull's Strength. Active Debuffs: dazzled(this round only)
If the spell or effect is somewhat obscure, it would be extra extra helpful if you could make a hyperlink. You're all making hyperlinks from time to time for my benefit, and I appreciate that a lot.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Unless his reach is 15ft I should be fine. I just move north 15 then diagonal 5.
I moved you on the map. You're correct. I was up late, not sure where my head was when I posted that.
Catcher |
@GM
Boss, are you house ruling that spell-like ability does not cause AoO or don't need Concentration check to be used in combat?
References:Spell-Like and Actions in Combat
Edit:
Okay, don't mind me. I think I need to sleep about two days straight.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Noted, Tess.
Catcher, you are correct that Spell-like abilities do provoke AoO's and require concentration, which is why he stepped back (5' step). (which I'm assuming you reread based on you crossing out your post!)

@GM
If catcher survives this encounter, she'll be seriously considering how to improve her defenses.
Based on that, I was planning on designing a magic item, which allows using shield spell.
Here are the guidelines for creating new magic items.
Some math:
CL x SL x 2000 x 2
1 x 1 x 2000 x 2 = 4000 / 2 = 2000 Gold to create the said magic item.
However, a continuous +4 shield bonus would be most likely an animated +2 steel shield, that is equals a +4 shield, which is 16,000 gp or 8000gp to create.
With this behind us, there are some other factors to consider:
The magic item would never offer more than +4 shield bonus, while the shield could be enchanted to offer up to +7 bonuses to AC.
The magic item would not be inactive after some rounds and would protect from magic missile as well incorporeal attacks.
So, if we see this side, an item with constant shield spell, would be like someone using a +2 animated Ghost Touch heavy shield with the additional effect of an unlimited Brooch of Shielding and unlimited turns of animated (That’s roughly about 52k gold, without counting the unlimited animated effect), and I’m sure that I, as DM would never allow such item to be created for only 2000gp.
So, here I am now trying to convincing you to allow me to create that item!
Anyway, I wanted to create an item that allows use of shield spell 3 times per day as a swift action.
I was not able to find any magic item with effect, so I could use to compare.
There’s a Metamagic Rod, Quicken which allows up to tree spells from level one to level three to be cast as swift action. My idea was to create a ‘less powerful’ effect that would allow only a specific spell to be cast (Shield, level one).
On a side note, we could work with an item with ‘three’ charges, each charge needing five casts of shield to fill up. (Considering as quicken, it would be same as a level 5 spell).
Anyway, lots of ramblings about it but in the end, here is the most important part: What do you think? How should I approach this item creation?
Edit: Force Shield would be what I was looking for, with the option to later raise the Shield bonus.
Roland, just Roland |
Roland suggests leaving AC as it is and increasing your Hit Points! MUA HA HA HA HA!!
PS. No internet again, and no deadline to fix it, so please bot me if I take too long.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Hey all,
I was very busy yesterday, and I see I wasn't the only one away so no biggie.
I'll do a wrap-up post on my break times later today, probably not too long from now.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Catcher, FYI, I haven't forgotten about your post above, about creating that magic item. The magic item creation rules are severely lacking and leave a lot to be desired. Your examples cited are good, but I find that they're confusing me because of the range of prices.
The kicker I'm seeing here is the desire to make it a swift action. That makes it quite powerful indeed. I'm at a loss at how to price the item. I'm working on it though.
Catcher |
@GM
I understand.
Here is something else that may help as well:
Boots of Speed.
We could swap the ‘haste’ effect with Shield effect, and the boots with bracers.
--
Bracers of Shield
Aura faint abjuration; CL 1th
Slot wrists; Price - gp; Weight 1 lb.
DESCRIPTION
As a free action, the wearer of bracers of shield can click her wrists together, letting her act as though affected by a shield spell for up to 10 rounds each day. The shield effect’s duration need not be consecutive rounds.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
Craft Wondrous Item, shield; Cost - gp.
--
So, the only hard time we may have, is calculating the item price, since haste is a round/level spell, compared to 1mim/level shield and the fact that one is a 3rd level, while the other 1st level spell.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Roland,
You're spot on. My calculations were correct, minus your celestial totem bonus and your increased HP from rage. I'll update the sheet.
Also, I'm a cretin because I asked you guys to post your buffs so that I wouldn't forget...and I still forgot to account for your Blur buff that you've had on this whole time.
I'm off to work right now. On my break, I'll do a percentage roll for each attack and see how many get negated entirely.
Sorry guys, this is so much different than a tabletop game, and for me it seems so much easier to not notice buffs/debuffs and the like. Thank you all for bearing with me.
I'll point out to you when you've forgotten something, and I expect you you do the same to me.
We've still got Tess' round 7 action pending. I'll GMPC her later if we don't hear from her.
Gamemaster Zedth |
I'm very sorry to hear that Tess. I enjoyed playing with you, and I wish you the best.
Hope everything is okay.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Sad news everyone, Tessandriel is no longer with us.
Shall we press on with 4 players? Recruit a 5th?
Catcher |
Without Tess, we are virtually without ranged support, but even then, this is a good party.
I think we can move with four, but five is a comfortable number. :)
Also, I don’t know the reason, but I blame Roland for it.
Miro Ammar |
I second GM Zedth's comments. I hope everything turns out ok for you, Tess. It's been a pleasure gaming with you. :)
I would say recruit a fifth, but continue the game while we do so. Perhaps the fifth could be a prisoner in the Dragon Cult's lair?
Gromff Hammerhand |
Dibs on her stuff. I mean...sorry to hear that. I hope you can return one day.
Roland, just Roland |
Well, I believe she just did not have time for the boards anymore... It could be something, but who knows?
I think 4 is a nice number, and so is 5. Both keep the game moving without much problems, and we're having fun. So, to allow other people to have fun with us, I think we should recruit another guy.
PS. Roland is probably taking Step Up the next level, to make the devil's lives harder...
Gromff Hammerhand |
I don't' think we are missing too much with out Tess. Roland has the nature skills, Miro is stealthy, and wizards are always best at range. But Catcher wants to be an eldritch knight I believe so all if us are geared to wards melee. A ranged outdoorsy type would be nice. I don't mind getting another player as long as they can keep up.
Catcher |
The gems are worth 250 gold. The crystals radiate magic. After some spellcraft attempts they are discovered to be Sorcerer Stones. One is for Protection From Evil and the other is Magic Missile. A Sorcerer Stone is a magic item through which spellcasters can channel spell energy to create a different magic spell. Like wands, anyone with the spell on their class list can use the Sorcerer Stone. To use it, one must sacrifice a memorized spell/daily spell slot and instead cast the spell contained within the Sorcerer Stone at the same caster level as the sacrificed spell. Unlimited uses per day.
When I grow up, I wanna learn to create magic items such as these!
Roland, just Roland |
I believe that's the same thing as the Page of Spell Knowledge, but applies for both spontaneous casters and those who memorize spells. Well done!
