The town of Longacre sits just outside the fringes of the Whisperwood. A few lights shine in the streets and windows, and the occasional snippet of conversation or laughter issues from open doors, but here on the outskirts of town, the night is quiet and dark. Sparse clouds scud across the sky, momentarily obscuring the dim light from the moon overhead. Across a scrubby field, barely distinguishable under the starry sky, a darkened, fort like compound hunches in the distance.
Your guide a young human woman named Cimri points toward the dim structure.
"That’s it—Louslik Tannery. Remember search the place, look for hidden coins and anything else that might be suspicious. If you get caught your burglars and nothing more, we have assurance that if you get sent to prison you stay will be a very short one so don't worry about that."
You still remember your meeting with the representative from Thrune. A man literally wrapped in shadows. He sounded human but it was hard to be sure it was muffled and you couldn't see any of his features.
He simply made you an offer you couldn't refuse (you can fill in the blank here) and offered you a position working for house Thrune as their agents for a special mission.
The first part of which is investigating this Tannery. The owner has been suspected of skimming on his taxes for years and now they also suspect he may be involved in a rebel movement that has been spreading of late. They want you to search the place for evident under the pretence of a break-in so as to not alert the rebels that he may be compromised.
After-all the town of Longacre is a place were people go to forget and to be forgotten and is the home of many thieves and murderers.
Ambrose Lockhart |
Don't worry--if he's harboring spies, we'll sniff them out, Ambrose says, crouching down to scratch the tops of his two dogs' heads.
One is compact, muscular, her tail wagging back and forth impatiently. The other stands stoically, shadowing Ambrose's footsteps.
If we're gonna get caught, we won't go easily...

Tycho Mandrini |
The stern-faced, Chelish human looks around at the gathered group, unable to hide his contempt.
"There is no place in society for scofflaws and insurgents. This man should be punished. Pity we can't simply excruciate him in broad daylight."
Tucking the unholy symbol around his neck inside his collar, the priest addresses his angelic companion:
"My dear, do try at least not to kill him until we have extracted all the useful information he possesses."
Kayla - Black scorpion |
Kayla is small compared to the others, even the dogs come close to dwarfing her. still she knows how to use her size to her advantage.
parts of her past are best left, in the past. this was to be a new beginning.
Without a word Kayla advances to the house, a whispered word before she nearly vanishes. I'll scout for an easy entry.

Douloureux |
Tic stands still next to the other members of the group, arms folded behind his back, face devoid of any emotion. Whether his cold, expressionless face or the armor he wears covered in twisted spines is more menacing is up to the observer to decide.
He lets the other two finish their piece before speaking. He turns towards Cimri and quietly says, "I understand why I was chosen for this group of agents, but why was I chosen for this specific mission? Leaving no trace is not my skillset." The tone is flat. There is no challenge in the question, just matter of fact.
DireMerc |
"Never said you had to leave no trace. As far as I'm concerned you can kill everyone there if you feel it's the best way to proceed. From what I understand you were chosen because you were good at getting answers. Our ultimate goal here is to find the one that is spreading this rebellion. A paladin of Iomedae, we believe she is hiding somewhere in this town." replies Cimri
Azrielan |
The tall woman Tycho refers to does not share the outward look of contempt, if only because every inch of her is clad in the easily recognizable Hellknight plate, and her spiked helmets' faceplate is down.
A gauntleted hand reaches up to pull the vizor up, and reveals the face of a young aasimar (probably the source of the angelic quality Tycho described).
"Ypu know as well as I that I would love nothing more than to exact proper justice upon this criminal. And yet, House Thrune, in it's wisdom, has given us a mission that we must complete."[:/b]
Her extravagant unholy symbol remains in the open, as she has nowhere to hide it. And even if she could, no one would ever mistake her for anything other than what she was: a knight of Hell itself.
[b]"I will try my best. You are aware that I am well-suited to the art of...information extraction. If or when she dies, it will not be until we have the information we require."
Obviously noticing the fact that they're standing in the open, Azrielan quickly motions to the tannery with a fist of iron.
"Quickly, let us go. Before someone spots us, and the traitor we seek escapes."
A quiet whisper follows these words, barely audible to all but the keenest ear.
"No mercy."
Douloureux |
Tic stares at Cimri as she speaks with the same flat affect he's had since everyone first met him. He does not once blink as she speaks. When she is done with her response he turns his head to look back at the tannery.
He doesn't seem to react to Azrielan's statements except that as she finishes her last words he slides the wicked looking spiked chain from his shoulder gripping it with both hands, metal links softly clinking in the night, and begins walking towards the structure.

Climb or Stealth dc 15: PCs who scale the 10-foot-tall wooden palisade around the tannery or sneak up and find a hole in the stockade see that the work yard beyond is largely empty. There are lanterns lit, both at the gate and outside the office. Two large dogs doze near the office’s door.
Disable Device dc 15: The gate that opens into the tannery’s work yard features a simple mechanism, designed to swing open to admit delivery carts. Constructed for convenience, not defense, a lock can be bypassed to open the gate with the pull of a lever. It won’t necessarily be quiet, though.
Knowledge (local) dc 15: A small night crew works at the tannery. The tannery’s owner, Jabral Louslik, handles the operation’s accounting well into the evening. Additionally, Shaul and Pippa Umbre—the town’s elderly gong farmers—come and go throughout the night, bringing loads of dung to use in softening leather.
Perception dc 15: A portion of the palisade surrounding the tannery has been damaged by repeated impacts from inexpertly steered work carts. This has opened a narrow gap in the palisade near the beamhouse that is out of the way, and could be squeezed through with a bit of effort unless one happens to be very small.

Hmm, for some reason it didn't inform me that there were new posts here, even though I dotted both this and the discussion thread. Weird. GM, I already made my Knowledge (Local) roll above, so I'll take that result if you don't mind.
Louslik stays here late most nights--he should be here. Old man Umbre and his wife might show up, too. They're good folk, near as I can tell. Can't see them being part of a rebellion--we should take 'em alive for questioning.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Ambrose speaks quietly to his dogs and they follow, sniffing the air and helping him find the gap as well.
He squeezes through the gap with his dogs just behind.
If Kayla points out the guard dogs...
The burly man leans in close to the others and speaks quietly, gesturing to the sleeping dogs.
Give 'em a wide berth. If they wake up, leave them to me.
He draws a net, ready for action.
Knowledge (Nature) to see if the dogs seem well-fed/treated: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Douloureux |
Tic struggles slightly to squeeze through the gap with all of the acoutrama about his armor, but follows behind Ambrose and his dogs. He looks to where Ambrose points out the sleeping dogs but makes no other reaction. It seems clear he is following Ambrose's lead.

"I am not versed in the art of stealth, nor do I see the need for it. But I shall try my best. Let's not tarry any longer than we must."
This isn't going to go well at all...also, I just noticed that I messed up the text effects for my intro post. That's embarrassing.
Stealth: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (19) - 5 = 14
Ambrose Lockhart |
Seeing the others attempting to remain quiet, Ambrose does the same, holding a hand up to quiet his pets. Rowena is a natural, but Elsie takes more convincing.
He's so concerned about hushing his dogs that he trips loudly over a loose piece of wood.

@ DM--when I do things like give a command to my dogs for a trick they already know (and thus I can't fail on the handle animal roll, even on a 1) I just don't even roll. Are you cool with that? I rolled this for Elsie because she hasn't yet learned the "sneak" command. Sound good?

Mercer mutters a few arcane words and makes a subtle gesture that cloaks him in magical force. (casts mage armor on himself)
Then he sneaks along behind the others.

sorry about the silence been real busy, Tuesday and Wednesday's are my busy nights usually. things may change once our PFS group gets back together.
I will be making the rolls listed above, Kayla scouted things out before the group got there, GM if there is anything that she may have noticed before they arrived, let me know.

small retcon I guess
After a recon of the yard, Kayla easily slips back out side to direct those coming to the hole in the palisade. The gate will be to noisy, we best make use of this entry. watch out for the guard dogs, they are sleeping now, but too much noise may change that. she whispers her report.
there now you guys can do what you already posted as Kayla has made her report and now you guys know what is going on.
Ambrose is correct, I thing killing would be out of the question for now, if the opportunity arises capture would be better.
Kayla's small size makes slipping through the gap in the Palisade rather easy. she slips back in and heads toward the office door. attempting to remain unnoticed and not disturbing the sleeping dogs.
stealth again: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
Kayla then proceeds to check the office door perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

@ Ambrose sound good. I've been a bit busy myself. Haven't slept more than 4 hours since Tuesday because of work and I have another meeting in an hour so I cant sleep just yet but after that I'm going in a coma for like 48 hours since I'm off Friday Saturday and sunday. I knew this would happen which is why I was original gonna start on april 4th.
Forgot to say squeezing trough the breach for a medium creature is a dexterity check dc 10 and failure means you fail to pass and it makes noise if your wearing armour. Small creatures need not make a check.
A1: Gate
A1 a Breach in the wall
A2: work yard and tanning pits
A3: Workshop
A4: Main office
Kayla quietly sneaks past the sleeping dogs and peeks into the office window and sees a man working on some paperwork at a desk while another dog chews at a bone on the floor next to him.

Note that Sleep is a full-round action, so you can't actually ready action that. :-/ You could ready action your slumber hex on the first dog to wake up, though!
Ambrose Lockhart |
@Mercer--ah, gotcha
I don't wanna hurt them dogs--it's not their fault their master's a conspirator. But we can't have them getting in our way, either. I can draw 'em off into the workshop, give the rest of you an opening to get Louslik. Anyone who's no good at sneaking can come with me. Well? Ambrose whispers to the others, waiting expectantly.

Tycho Mandrini |
How much do we know about this town? Like did we just show up and immediately go into a mission, or have we been here for a little while?
The reason I ask, is because if Tycho knows a well-known priest of Iomedae in town, or the captain of the guard or something, he can cast Disguise Self and talk the guy out peacefully while Kayla sneaks in

"I assume that by "girls", one of them is me?" the towering figure covered head to toe in apparebtly very loud impressive spiked armor whispered pointedly.
"Well, let's get on with it. What's the plan?"
Stealth: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (3) - 5 = -2
Eh. It was bound to happen eventually. I recommend a frontal assault on the building, now that stealth has been broken.
Tycho Mandrini |
Tycho simply rolls his eyes at the comical attempt by Tic and Azrielan to be stealthy.
"He means the dogs, my dear."
Seeing Azrielan start reaching for her weapon, once their position is given away, he knows what is about to come next.
"We don't want to spook this guy into getting himself killed for no reason. Azrielan, you come with me and don't reveal yourself unless it comes to blows. Kayla, hide behind the door. The tanner is going to either give me the evidence or leave it behind. In the latter case, you sneak in and grab it. We can use this noise to our advantage."
Tycho assumes Ambrose, Tic and Mercer will deal with the dogs. He also does not wait for a reply to his orders, seemingly assuming they will be followed.
Sorry, my guy is kind of a bossypants. He's somewhat modeled after Captain Cold from the Flash / Legends of Tomorrow. ;)
With an incantation and some hand gestures, the features of the priest of Asmodeus begin to change drastically. His short, straight dark hair becomes flowing unkempt blond locks. His clean-shaven face sprouts a tangled beard. His cold brown eyes become a piercing blue. His well-kept travel outfit appears to become worn and dirty in an instant. Perhaps most strangely, he rolls up his sleeves to reveal the sudden appearance of a tattoo on his forearm: a sword crested by a beacon of light, the symbol of Iomedae.
Cast Disguise Self

Assuming I have another round before the dude can get out of the building and investigate: Cast Invisibility on Azrielan
Tycho will enter the building (or knock if it is locked).
I'm pausing my big multi-post here to see what is going to happen with the dogs, but hopefully, the others can deal with the dogs, and I can either bluff this dude to give me his stuff, so I can "destroy it", or get him to run away before the "thrunies" get here so Kayla can find it. Or if all else fails, Az can pop out of invisibility and clock the guy. lol
Douloureux |
Tic tenses at his noise, sees the dogs fall back asleep, then picks up his chain.
It seems the dogs are dealt with.
He sees Tycho change form across the yard, and decides to stay back for now, but readies to cast "Doom" on the tanner if it becomes necessary.
Azrielan |
"I apologize for my response, for I did not understand your intent."
I seriously didn't understand what you were saying. Well, it led to a good roleplaying moment!
Assuming that he had the time to give Invisibility to Azr...
Turning to speak to Tycho, she pulls her clawed helmet over her head before disappearing from sight.
"Do not tally. I await the moment justice may be served."
Tycho Mandrini |
Tycho is trying to go in the door where Kayla saw the guy thru the window. I'm assuming it's locked, but waiting for DM confirmation. If it is locked I will look in the window and knock so the guy can see me, then Ill wait by the door for him to open it.
Tycho Mandrini |
Tycho enters the building (presumably with invisible Azrielan in tow), his mace at his side transformed to look like a longsword, unarmed hands outstretched to show he means no harm.
This stance also allows him to prominently show his forearm "tattoo" of Iomedae's sigil, as well as his unholy symbol of Asmodeus, which has changed to look like a holy symbol of Iomedae that he is wearing around his neck.
As he encounters the tanner, he says with urgency:
"My friend, I've been sent to warn you that the Thrunes are onto you. Grab whatever evidence of your activities you have here, and let us get it out of here before they arrive! Quickly now, there isn't much time!"

"By all means, lead the way. Let's make haste!"
Tycho will allow the man to pass him, so that when he leaves the office, Tycho and invisi-Azrielan will be behind him. Presumably, on the way to the workshop, the jig is up, as the rest of the gang are standing out by the entrance to the workshop.
As they approach the rest of the band, Tycho will exclaim in a commanding voice:
"Comrades, this man has confessed to possession of seditious propaganda, stored in that warehouse. He also has coins, that are no doubt the unpaid taxes we heard about, as well as weapons that are likely being stored for distribution to his co-conspirators."
Then, to his "friend" the tanner:
"Jabral Louslik, you stand accused of treason and tax evasion. If you surrender now, I will do my best to ensure that you receive what little leniency there is to be had. If you give us the names of your contacts, you may even escape this ordeal with your life. If you resist, however, we will use force to put you down!"

At the sound of Tycho's threats, Tic begins walking closer to the man. The barbed chain dragging beside him for tonal effect. His hand glowing dark purple with the prepared Doom spell in an attempt to add even more gravity to Tycho's threat.
