Septimus is caught up in the flurry of battle and seeks to end this conflict quickly. If the thugs are knocked out they will not be a threat to the crowd and thus allowing them more time to escape from the Dotari who are another threat.

Septimus swings his Sap across the back of the head of the distracted guy and with one blow knocking him to the ground unconscious.

Carawyn emerges from the mist back where she started.

"The halfling is gone," she announces, fully expecting that to stop the hostilities, though they seem to have only gotten worst in the 10 seconds she couldn't see what was happening.

Lirana shakes her head at the gnome woman. "Somehow, I don't think that that is going to make a difference to these guys."

Lirana turns around looking for the best way out though the crowds and away from any more guards. If she can find a likely looking escape route, she'll begin moving in that direction.


@carawyn and lirana- There are still crowds of people having a hard time leaving beyond your group you see several small skirmishes almost turning into a full on riot. apparently there is more than the original group of CCG that are starting trouble. it appear there are some Dotteri trying to make sense of the mess as well.

Lirana there is always the escape route as a full-round action into the alleys.

My round 2 action was to emerge from the fog, back where I started.

Laurent doesn't really want to hurt the CCG members, and unfortunately his sword is not very well equipped to knock them out without giving them dangerous wounds.

Seeing the armored man take down two of the CCG fighters with nothing but a sap, Laurent decides it would be best to assist this gentleman."Sir," he calls out to Septimus, "let me help you with these fools!"

Laurent attempts to dodge through the enemy in order to set up an advantageous position on one for Septimus to attack, halfheartedly trying to do the same with his blade.

Actions:

Laurent is going to try to move through the crowd in order to flank Septimus's next target. Here's his acrobatics check if he needs to make one in order to avoid an AoO

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Once he's in position he'll try to attack the CCG if Septimus also arrives to flank him for nonlethal damage.

Melee: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0

@Septimus- Two other people appear to be trying to help you with one of the remaining CCG. however in the distance you see two Dotteri full armed and armored heading towards your group. yelling, "STOP, your under arrest.".

@carawyn- You see Lirana start to move towards the alley and several people attacking a CCG guard. There are still two but it appears everyone is attacking one of them the other is attack a lone half-elf.

@Laurant- Beppe yells,"Sir ! We have to get out of her NOW!", you see that Beppe has several small cuts on his body as if he fought with someone. A further look shows a body lying on the ground a pool of blood starting to form.

@Berenice- (Bot)- Berenice takes her sword and moves forward to attack the CCG attacking Septimus using nonlethal means like the rest of her current companions. Barely hitting the guard but not causing enough damage to knock him unconscious.

@Lirana-Through the press of bodies you find a opening in the crowd showing a way into the alley away from the main fighting it seems. you hear yelling and screaming on the streets. As things seem to escalate where you are at as you start moving toward a exit.

@Aldren- after casting your spell on Laurant he seems to filled with confidence. You see that it is mass chaos in the street, still things appear to be degenerating further. Where once there was many using nonlethal means to brawl you see that several knives are starting to be drawn. In addition after laurant moves the guard that attacked him moves forward to attack you. shouting the name as Asmodeous for comfort "Asmodeous take you!"

Aldren's watches his meat shield charge off then dodges a blow from the Asmodean thug. "The Prince of Lies wouldn't know what to do with me," he replies dryly to the fool's battle cry.

Already bruised by the crowd, Aldren considers the morningstar in his hand but opts to fight again another day. To the man with the sap and Laurent he yells, "Time! To! Go!"

Withdraw full round action. Getting out of dodge. If I have a path to this alley Lirana is heading towards, I'll go there. Otherwise, I'll run through the obscuring mist and see what's on the other side.

Septimus deflects a blow from one of the guards and then yells back to them "I would sooner offer my head to a chopping block than surrender to Soldiers who uphold the foolish laws of the Thrune. Now leave the crowd alone and face a true warrior you cowards!"

Septimus takes a defensive stance and prepares to weather some blows in hopes of buying the crowd another round to flee.

Going full-defense thus boosting his AC to 23 for this round.

Carawyn follows the woman who helped her up, having no desire to get into a fight over something so silly as an illusory tomato.

Her Small size proves to be valuable as she easily makes her way between, around and under the larger folks in the protest.

@Septimus- the crowd is not fleeing. Some are but you can see numerous people getting arrested for rioting and you will be another if you stay probably. This is turning into a full scale riot.

Septimus holds his ground for a moment drawing attention of some guards to while taking a defensive stance blocking and deflecting blows from the guards and the militia. Seeing that his efforts to protect the crowd though are in vain as the riot has escalated he decides a tactical withdraw would be prudent. He shoves his way through a gap and attempts to clear the crowd and distance himself from his attackers.

Strength Check to force his way through a gap to escape: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Lirana continues to flee through the crowd, trying to dodge her way through the rioters. Though she tries to keep her pace to that of the small Gnome woman following her.

So my round 3 action is to full defend and take some blows. My round 4 would be to do a tactical withdraw. Unfortunately as my character is a Cavalier, he would violate his code if he didn't at least try to occupy the attacking force for a round or two.

Berenice keeps to Septimus' left, attempting to stab at whatever fool attempts to strike her new large, armored buddy. At least in a place that won't kill them. She didn't want said buddy to arrest her too!

Laurent looks over to Bepe with some alarm, as it appears his valet has just stabbed a man to death. "What in the... he begins, but trails off as he cannot find the words to finish the sentence.

Recovering from the shock with a shake of his head, Laurent looks back at the others. "Just one moment Bepe, we have a few more things to take care of here," he says, readying his blade to strike any who would follow his fleeing new-found friends.

Actions:
Laurent will stand with Berenice and Septimus to allow Carawyn, Aldren, and Lirana to withdraw, before withdrawing himself. He will make a non-lethal attack against the first person to challenge him.

Round 3 adventures turn then enemies- man a lot happened.

@Septimus- Septimus takes full defensive action this turn. One of the Dotteri with a mace appears to be very skilled with the weapon. Fakes you out with a attack on your flank then with speed past belief for his size twists his weapon around to crunch on your leg during his charge. momentarily leaving himself open (-2 AC from charge)

@carawyn- you and Liarana reach the alleyway. You hear shouts behind you as the group now appears to be in full on riot mode people shouting, pulling weapons, Crying, yelling for loved ones, trying to escape, trying to fight etc...
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Perception DC 15:
You hear sounds of fighting going on further down the alleyway in a side passage to the left. followed by a "THUMP." and a clatter as if something was dropped.

@Berenice- You knock out another CCG, however right after you are done the last CCG group member turns to you making a attack with his Morningstar still apparently trying to take you hostage. Just barely missing the guard curses at you "Damn halflings, Like little Rats..."

@Lirana- you are able to make your way towards the alley with a quick look back you see the burly guard that tried to assist you being attacked by dotteri and CCG. with Laurant and Berenice helping attack. You see aldren whom you just met try to make his way towards you, the gnomish female is right next to you. perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Perception DC 15:
You hear sounds of fighting going on further down the alleyway in a side passage to the left. followed by a "THUMP." and a clatter as if something was dropped.

@Aldren- I'll make your check as a full round action not to get caught up in the crowds strength check is your best.STR: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Unfortunately the path that the ladies took closed up fast and you could not force your way through the throng. you hear a shout behind you as someone gets injured. You also see the ladies in the corridor stop as if listening for something.

@laurant- Beppe looks at you Questioningly. "Shouting, Sir we NEED to go." the his eyes go wide as the Dotteri guard swings at Laurant. with a mighty heave of a desperate man, he pushes Laurant out of the way of the attack and takes the full brunt of the mace in the face, crunching his nose. Falling to the ground Beppe mouths the words "GO" as he falls to the ground. blood already pooling near his body.

CCG3 falls from a hit from Berenice. That leaves just one CCG4 guard however two dotteri come out of the crowds to attack. one with a charge vs Septimus. The other dotteri attacks laurant and the CCG4 attacks Berenice. You notice immediately the Dotteri guardsman do not appear to be trying to take people alive that are resisting. After Beppe goes down one of them says "Surrender, Now! this is not a debate"

Carawyn shakes her head amidst the din.

"They are making so much noise," she says, mostly to herself. "We wish they would be quieter because we can't hear anything."

She continues looking for a way to escape.

DM, my AC is 23 at the moment so 22 won't hit. Even if he had a flank, you cannot charge while in difficult terrain which the crowd counts as. Flanking does not ignore my shield bonus.

Septimus is going to alter his action a bit for round 4. Seeing Laurant is down he's going to abandon his Sap and grab him with his now empty hand as a standard action and then as a move action shove his way through the crowd to bring her to safety. As a Cavalier, he's not going to leave someone behind to die.

As you're not supposed to TPK the PC's in this encounter, hopefully you'll let me do this. Once again I DON"T have a choice but to do this, my Cavalier code and all that.

I think it's Beppe who is down, not Berenice, and I think Laurent just got knocked into the negative, too. Nevermind. Either I wildly misread what you had written or you edited it while I was writing my own post.

Aldren curses as he gets stuck in the crush of the mob. He briefly considers channeling negative energy with the idea it would drive people away from him, but dismisses the idea just as quickly. Even though it won't kill them, it will just increase the panic--and that might. "Damned hoi palloi," he mutters to himself.

Aldren continues to try to push his way through.

Str check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 Woot! Finally.


@septimus laurant is not down Beppe is, sorry I misjudged your AC., and the crowd is not around yall currently. it was stated in previous posts. that there is a circle around your group. and there was no flank. just a charge(they are not working as a team currently because they expect to roll over yall.) Beppe got in the way of the attack and took the hit. so laurant wasn't even injured.

Ah ok, then i'll grab Beppe instead as my action. Either way he'd grab the person who got taken down and hopefully take them to safety. He's losing his sap in the process as he dosen't have time to sheathe it but that's a sacrifice he's willing to make to save a life.

Septimus pulls Beppe out of danger as best he can yelling at the crowd. "Make way! Injured man over here!"


round 4- Heroes

Picking up a item provokes Attack of Opportunity, I would rule picking up a person would do the same.

The Dotteri curses as he misses you again, "Damn you, hold still.."

@Aldren- Elbowing people out of the way Aldren makes it into the alleyway.

@Carawyn- you believe that there is a exit at the end of the alleyway. you will have to ether turn down a left side alleyway. Or make a climb check to get over the fence at the end of the alley.

Either way I would provoke. If not picking up a person (Which would provoke), moving away from a threatening enemy also counts. Still the attack would still miss.

Septimus with Beppe grabbed continues to push his way through the crowd, hoping to put the crowd between himself and the Dotari and hopefully get the person he's protecting to safety and medical attention.

Laurent nearly screams aloud as Bepe takes a blow meant for him and is felled, but he manages to keep his head. Before he can say or do anything, the armored man fighting with them scoops up the fallen halfling and beats a hasty retreat.

"Wait, that's my friend!" Laurent says, chasing after the rescuer of his valet.

Actions:
Following Septimus, making a full withdrawal. If necessary here is an acrobatics roll to weave through the crowd.

Aldren runs up to the alley with Lirana and Carawyn, panting slightly from the exertion yet still managing a smile. "Ladies... Lirana, correct? Terrible way to make introductions, but I think we'd all do well to make ourselves scarce. Is there a way out of this alley or are we in a dead end?"

He looks back into the fray when he hears Berenice and yells out, "Little Bee! Over here!!!"

Then, out loud but to nobody in particular, while holding his holy symbol for th, he says, "Dear Lady, lend me your wisdom and guide my way."

Aldren casts Guidance on himself; good for one minute

Lirana looks over at Aldren. "There should be a way out, but I thought that I heard the sound of some fighting going on down there in a side alley. Made me a bit wary to head down it on my own."

Carawyn looks the newcomer up and down.

"Hmm. He seems to know us, and be very familiar calling us dear, but we don't know him," she says, seeming to herself. "He does seem to need guidance though."

Then, addressing him more directly, she adds: "We can't make ourselves scarce as there is a set amount of us at all times. Unless he wishes the guards to catch us, in which case we would probably become much scarcer indeed. That would likely be a dead end."


@ Aldren, Carawyn, and Lirana- All three of you are in the alley none of you have gone further into either checking the alleyway to the left or going past the alleyways to see if you can get over the fence. All of you hear Chaos in the street behind you.

@Laurant, Berenice and Septimus. all three of you make it past the crowds to go into the alleyway. this round. Aldren, lirana and Carawyn are one round ahead of you. So they can either wait for yall or they can move. The guards quickly forget about yall as they are busy with the Riot. You do however get a glance of Nox leaving the opera house with Arcan. Nox appears to be unharmed from her Almost mortal wound, and now joins the melee in front of the opera house. With a hell hound at her feet. Spetimus you feel blood dripping on your arms and you cant feel the Halfling moving.

Septimus gives a brief glimpse of Nox, seeing her wounds healing but suspecting some kind of healing magic and turns his concentration back to helping Beppe. Septimus once he's broken free of the crowd runs in the direction where Aldren, Carawyn and Lirana went, carrying Beppe with him.

If he's able to get within earshot of the party he yells out, "I have an injured man over here! If any of you know any healing magic, please help. He may well die from his wounds."

Aldren looks at the bloodied body cradled in Septimus's arms and spares a brief look of sympathy towards Berenice, but he also realizes that lingering here isn't an option.

He steps over toward the corner of the alleyway to the left, morningstar in one hand and holy symbol in the other, and peaks around the corner in such a way as to not present a large target but not worrying about being stealthy, either.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17

Distracted from worrying about her own well-being for a brief moment, Lirana quickly moves to the warrior and the injured man that he is carrying.

Seeing the others are occupied, Carawyn will go look down the alleyway to the left, where the helpful woman indicated she heard fighting. She thinks for a moment to stay low, trying to be unobtrusive, but curiosity overcomes her caution and she walks more boldly forward than she realizes.

Septimus places Beppe gently down to the ground and lets Lirana heal the man. He then says to Lirana, "Thank you milady for your assistance in saving a life. Curses upon those that support the unjust laws of Cheliax. This is savagery and evil, not justice. We should continue to vacate the area once this man is able to walk. Eventually the forces led by Nox will disperse the crowd and fan out into the city. I would advise that we find a place to lay low until the crackdown is lifted."

Once Spetimus has placed Bepe on the ground, Laurent rushes to his side. "Thank you for saving my valet, sir. I don't know if you saw but he took a blow meant for me," he says to Septimus.

He kneels down next to his friend Bepe, then looks up at Lirana, "Please, anything you can do to help my noble friend would be much appreciated. I know we should retreat from here, but I don't think we can move him far without exacerbating his wounds."

Septimus says to Laurent, "Indeed this man was quite brave to take a blow ment for you. I only wish I could have taken the blow myself but at the time I was fending off other attackers. It saddens me that more could not be done to prevent this riot from happening. Much like before, this city devolves further into Tyranny."

Berenice follows after the group and looks back at the Lord-Mayor and his trained hell-hounds...BOTH of them...with a glare.

"Fie on Thrune," she mutters under her breath. "This isn't over."

When she hears Septimus mention Beppe's injuries she gasps and is about to fly into a panic when he's healed by Lirana, prompting her to breathe a sigh of relief.

"Sweet barleybrew, thank you! Most tallfolk wouldn't stoop to save a halfling in need. We owe you. I owe you."

She listens to the other tallfolk discuss the situation before chiming in herself.

"You've got the right of it, copper. Not much of a law-and-order lady myself, but what Bazzy Thrune's put up ain't laws. Just excuses he can use to screw this city an' its people over, tallfolk an' halflings alike. Right now, we need a barn...an' I know the quickest way to get to one! You ever hear of Longroad's Coffeehouse?"

He nods to Bernice and says, "I have heard of Longroad's Coffeehouse. A place where many seedy criminal types visited often. During my time in the guard I made an arrest near there of a wanted mugger. Yes, I must admit that until a week ago I was a member of the city watch. The Asmodian laws this city upholds have always been corrupt as I have repetitively seen. The new Lord Mayor though has increased this many times fold with his draconian laws that he is imposing on the city, if you can call call them Laws to begin with."


Beppe graciously says "Thank you, milady." To Lirana from healing up his wounds as he unsteadily moves to his feet holding onto Laurant he looks a little pale. "Yes, I agree we should go to the Longroads coffeehouse." you see a grimace on his face from the wounds he sustained but he offer no further comment. You also see that even though the most lethal cuts were healed he still has damage from whom he was attacking or was attacked by.

@Carawyn and Aldren- when you both peer around the corner you see several guardsman standing over a body in the alleyway. you see that the body appears to be well dressed and you see a cane on the ground. at once Aldren notices that the man on the ground either lost his glove during the fight or it is the person that he was expecting to meet.

@Septimus- You have heard of the coffeehouse you know that Acran during his time actually kept some tabs on the place for some reason, and that there have been extra patrols recently.

Aldren sees the little tableau down the alley and sighs, "Well...that's not good." He turns back to the rest of the group and half-hisses, "If you're all quite done with the guided tour, our fine city's earstwhile guardsmen have killed a man... I suspect someone who wanted to help us organize against this tyranny. Perhaps we can discuss the finer points of Asmodean jurisprudence another time? Maybe after we've escaped?"

You see three gaurdsman in the alleyway. All appear to be members of the Chelish Cit Group and they are armed very simalier to the others that you fought today. They are having a conversation over the body.

perception DC 15:
.there are really Five CCG there are two others arguing next to a dumpster away from the other that are concealed from view.

Heal DC 13:
You can see that even though the body apears to be dead, that it is not the case. there is no blood or cuts. The victems chest is slowly moving.

Aldren says back to the group, "Three in the open, two more behind a dumpster." The half-elf then looks back down the alley, studies the men for a moment, and then his form changes into that of a human clothed similarly to the CCG. (Alter Self)

He lowers the morningstar to his side and walks around the corner openly. "There you are! Nox is calling for..." He glances at the body. "Ah, well, that explains it. This one of the rioters? No matter. Nox needs all of us back in the square. Rioters getting out of control, someone's organizing them and we need to crack some skulls." Aldren is walking up to the guys the whole time.

Laurent helps Bepe to his feat. He doesn't say much, feeling very guilty at having had Bepe take a blow for him.

Laurent isn't familiar with Longroad's Coffeehouse, but at this point he just wants to get Bepe to safety. He nods his house and says, "The Coffeehouse it is then."

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Poking his head around the corner, he sees the extra CCG members just as Aldren announces their presence. Unfortunately, he doesn't have time to react before Aldren assumes his disguise and attempts to convince the CCG guards that he's one of their number. Laurent puts his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to respond just in case Aldren's ruse fails.

"I would not recommend going to the Coffee house. I know that the Watch Commander has occasional guard patrols survey the location for possible trouble. It likely will be more patrolled with the unrest occurring in the city."

He waits until beppe gets up and says, "I hope you are feeling better because we have to vacate this area as soon as possible. Distance is more important than location at the moment."

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Septimus takes a moment to listen around and look for a good route to take to get some distance away from the crowd.

Berenice follows Aldren and surveys the scene quietly. When he attempts to disguise himself as a guardsman, she gulps and turns back to the others, trying to get the attention of the REAL guardsman.

"Either way, we may need to fight some more soon. Aldy's talkin' to some of them CCG gits around the corner, and from the sound of things his magic isn't going to fool them into thinking he's one of them."

She strings her bow quickly and nocks an arrow, and waits for the chaos to start anew.

Should we be making initiative checks? Surprise round?
