Gan Laccaran |
NEAT! I got a shot at winning this.
Noticing the weakness I seek to take advantage to try and even the playing field. I move to the left as he strikes.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Dodge or not I still follow up with a jab:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 For:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
AW HELL YEAH!!!
Confirm Crit:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 For additional:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I don't care what happens next, that is my moment of glory right there. I savor it while I can. Course with my acrobatics score, I really might have a chance.
Landing a solid hit I move again to keep in the guy's blind spot.
GM Faol Mhor |
You easily dodge the blow and come back swinging, the jab hits owlbear straight in the nose and it begins to bleed. He grunts and growls before trying to crush you with an overhand blow.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
1d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Owlbear -6, Gan -0, Gan its your turn to dodge and attack.
Gan Laccaran |
-6? I was sure he was at a -8. 2 from my first hit and 6 from my crit.
I move trying to stay ahead of his attacks.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Weather I am hit or not I attempt another counterattack.
Attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 For:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Faol Mhor |
Yes you're right, my mistake he is at -8
Gan is able to dodge his hefty blow and strikes back again.
Owlbear tries to hit Gan with a mighty uppercut.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
1d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The blow will surely connect with Gan's jaw unless he can dodge the blow.
Owlbear -11, Gan -0. Your turn to dodge and attack
Gan Laccaran |
I DODGE!
Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
I continue to dance circles around owlbear trying to keep one step ahead of him. I then strike again.
Attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 For:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
I might actually pull an upset.
GM Faol Mhor |
The uppercut clears your jaw as you dance backwards and jab him in the nose again. Owlbear steps backwards with a cry of disbelief and begins to back away from you.
Plugg, clearly outraged yells to owlbear and tosses him a hefty wooden club.
Owlbear reaches down and snatches it up.
grabbing the club was owlbear's turn, its your turn again Gan. Owlbear -15, Gan -0.
Gan Laccaran |
I swear under my breath as I see the scale tip again. I stand my ground and ready an action under the condition he moves in to attack me.
My turn I ready an action for if he moves up to attack me.
GM Faol Mhor |
Owlbear takes advantage of your perceived hesitation and moves in to swing with the club.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The swing is fast and hard and looks to connect with your ribs.
take your readied action then its your turn to dodge and attack
Gan Laccaran |
Okay as he moves in I attempt to counterpunch.
Attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 For:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3Blast. Though,if he charged would his AC still be low enough to still hit him? That was kind of what I was waiting for.
Then I Free move to his left.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Luck was bound to run out sooner or later. However, the result of 1 on skill checks does not equate to failure, it is only attacks and saves where that applies so I might still have a chance.
Well, if he is still standing I will strike at him again.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 For:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
GM Faol Mhor |
He didn't charge
Gan moves to the left to dodge but stumbles as he moves, the club sails past just an inch from his head.
Gan's punch lands again and Owlbear stumbles and groans but still isnt out of the fight yet.
Raising the club high over his head he attempts to bring it crashing down on Gan.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The Club comes crashing down and strikes the deck beside Gan's foot. Splinters are torn from the deck.
owlbear -19, Gan -0, your turn
Gan Laccaran |
Wow, I barely dodge a near one hit wonder blow.
Surprised by success, I press my attack.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 I assume that misses.
Missing widely I move quickly to the left side again try hard to not get hit.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 I am sure that would dodge anything but a twenty. I'm gonna post my next round actions to help speed this along a bit.
If I did manage to dodge, I move in with my next attack. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Dangit! So close. I got his AC pegged at 9 unless he's got a feat or an additional negative I don't know about.
I try to get out of the way quickly again.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 gonna wait an see if I get hit.
GM Faol Mhor |
To spped things along as well
Gan is able to dodge both owlbears incoming attacks with ease but he is so focused on dodging that he is unable to hit.
Go ahead with your next turn, you are close to taking him out, of course he is close to taking you out with one misstep as well :)
Gan Laccaran |
Did I get hit last two rounds? Or am I still at full health?
My over focusing on my defense seems to be impairing my ability to strike. Then again, my nerves my be affecting me with the introduction of the club into the fray.
Never the less, I strike out again.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Missing I maneuver trying to continue my evasion
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 I hate this dice bot. Please start affecting the big guy.
If by the continuing onset of miracles I am still standing, I will strike again.
Attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 For:1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Oh I hope that'll do it.
Dodging if I have to:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
GM Faol Mhor |
well tahts frustrating, I postede a big post last night and it didnt go through or I didnt actually post it. I'm sorry everyone. Okay here we go...I hope everyone is still around?
Gan you dodges so I just didn't bother to roll the attacks, you are still at full/[ooc]
With one final blow to his head you knock Owlbear out, his heavy limp body falls to the deck with a thump and he lays their unconscious.
For a second there is silence and then most of the crew starts to cheer.
Plugg is visibly upset and stalks off to the officers cabin after he tosses Gan the purse full of Gold.
Conchobhar willingly pays any debts with a smile noting that he made more tonight on the other "suckers" than he had to pay out. He lets some of you know that Fipps is especially angry because he's out 50 Gold. All he had he had bet on Owlbear.
Crewmen all about come up to Gan and congratulate him. Afterwards the party continues, most of the crew it seems were very happy with the evenings entertainment.
As your fifth day on the Wormwood comes to a close and the sun sets you each head off to bed after you are done partying on deck.
[ooc]you are each free to talk to some of the crew if you like before heading to bed. If not than it will be day six.
GM Faol Mhor |
Day 6 goes by without incident, the ship continues on its heading South west. Going to just skip a day
Day 7
You notice that you are passing an island called Matoku. You figure you should be clear of the shackles soon and into the open ocean within a day, two at most.
The morning bell tolls and you each head up on deck to a bright red sky. Several of the crew are grumbling and don't look to happy to see the brilliant red of the sky.
Four Skulls, as you sit down for your morning biscuit you feel terribly ill and you have a fever. Roll a fort Save
Dex DMG: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Con DMD: 1d3 ⇒ 1
After "breakfast" the crew goes about their daily work. It's about noon when the clouds which have slowly been building begin to let loose and it begins to rain heavily.
Gan you are on rope work which you are able to handle with ease on the deck, up in the rigging you can make out Conchobhar, syl and Narwhal having a hell of a time up there today.
The rest of you are unaffected by the heavy rains as well and are able to go about your work without too much interference.
Sabinae, Fishguts is sober so he doesn't require much of your help today but you help him cook, which is much more pleasant than being out in the rain. Mind you as a mermaid you might not mind it :)
Four Skulls, the wind and rain make your day particularly miserable.
each of you can perform a day or night action
Sabinae |
Knowledge: Geography: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Sabinae spends a bit of time on deck no more then an hour and then goes in and talks with Fishy today.
"I hope we get a chance to swim soon. This being out of water is hard. I miss the coolness and the current moving around me." Sabinae sighs.
GM Faol Mhor |
Sabinae while lamenting to fishguts he says "Well I guess you need to figure out what'll make em take off yer weight then, eh." Fishguts says. "Listen Scourge and Plugg are right mean ones, but if you could convince em ye don't plan to run maybe they'll take it off. Maybe even some flirting with Scourge might get him to come round eh, or just plane lie to his face that might work as well, tell em...tell em, that ye love it here or something...ah nevermind I got no clue what would help but it's those two you need to convince I suppose.
after a time fishguts says
If I had something to work the lock...I might be able to do someth'n myself...i've picked a few chains in my day...but if I was to do this, we would have to make it look like they was still on, and ye'd have to promise me ye won't run off, not that I'm worried about getting in trouble mind you, couldn't give a damn bout that it's just...well I think of you as a friend and I'd hate to see you leave ye know...
I'll wait a bit longer for people to respond to yesterday's post.

”I don't think Plugg or Scourge would believe me if I professed to love them or whatnot. You make the locks so I can get out of them when the need arises and I will stay.”
Gan Laccaran |
---Post Fight----
After the big guys goes down I relax panting hard. I look in the direction of Plugg as he storms off. I take the gold and faces the crowd. I raise my hand in triumph but say nothing. Was a helluva fight and I am worn out. Once the celebration, such as it is, is done I finish my duties and head to bed early.
----Next Day----
Profession sailor:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 able to take note of our direction I head to start my day of work.
As I work the rope work I notice the others having trouble. I attempt to finish quickly and make my way over. "Need a hand?" I offer. If they accept I spend my talking time assisting my fellow riggers if it is possible.

DM what does DMG and DMD from your 7th day post mean?
Despite feeling lousy Four Skulls dont lose the oportunite to try to approuch another crew member. Day action: Influence Rosie Cusswell. He starts a conversation with the muscled halfling women.
Hi there, I am Four Skulls. Nice to meet you, even on a rainy day like this. The word around is you are a musician, that must be nice. This place could sure use some songs, you play the fidler, right?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
GM Faol Mhor |
Four Skulls your conversation with Rosie isn't unpleasant but when you bring up her fiddle it turns sour. She lets out a tirade of expletives and mentions that Grok the quartermaster won't give her back her fiddle and then she stomps of kicking over a bucket and a mop as she goes.
Well before this gets too bogged down I'm going to go ahead and push forward with the story. Elthas can catch up or just jump back in.
GM Faol Mhor |
Day 8: Morning...you think!
None of you are woken by the bell today, instead scourge himself comes banging down the stairs and bellowing at the top of his lungs.
It feels far too early to be time for work you think but then it hits you, the ship is rocking back and forth and you can hear the wind and the rain battering the Wormwood.
”up on deck you blaggards!! Get in the rigging every last one o’ yeah!”
Unless you ignore his orders or protest you are all given rigging work to do. And you must roll the work checks; see the work info on the campaign page.
Gan you are ordered to work the lines.
Sabinae is ordered to work the ropes because she wouldn't be very useful in the rigging, while the rest of you are ordered to repair the rigging.
When you get on deck the rain is torrential and the wind is howling, you aren’t even sure if it’s day or night. You have no landmarks to get your bearings nor can you see much past the deck of the ship. The Wormwood has found itself caught in a massive storm.
You know that this is a massive storm and it’s going to drive the wormwood where ever it pleases, the only thing you can do is try to keep the wormwood in repair and prevent yourselves from being washed overboard.
You can each choose a daily action if you like
Sabinae |
Sabinae works the ropes as best she can given the storm.
Rope Work: Int bonus: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Being that rope work is not her area of expertise, her efforts are not up to par today.
Great. I am gonna get it for this.
GM Faol Mhor |
The only mass influence is, well beating owlbear which you did, it gives you a slight advantage to influence checks over the next few days, and trying to entertain the crew in the evening in some way. What you could do is say "I see so and so having trouble I try and help them out today" and then roll an influence check, but your character is also far to busy with his own work to try and help them all out and make much of a difference.
Gan Laccaran |
Was there some other reason for pointing it out or was it simply fluff sake?
I startle awake and as the rocking continues I rush upstairs and get right to work. Working diligently.

"Hey pal, you by any chance happen to have some quality stock booze on hand that you could spare? After a good stressful past few days I would like a little comfort. I could do ya a favor or even pay you for it, what do you say?"

Prof Sailor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Up on arriving on the deck he starts to climb the rigging but fall, his sick limbs betraying him. Very carefully he resumes his climbing and begin his work trying his best not to look at the hungry waves and sea spirits that wisper about death and drowning in his ears.
Day action: Work diligently during the day.
Take 10 on climb checks for 13
Prof Sailor: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
GM Faol Mhor |
During the first shift Sabinae struggles with the unfamiliar work while the rest of you seem to manage just fine. Scourge seems to take note of Sabinae's poor performance and yells and curses at her but doesn't do anything.
DAY 8: Evening
The winds continue to batter the wormwood and the rain hasn't let up a bit.
Gan begins to make his way down below decks to see Fishguts after the first shift is over. ”Where the hell do you think yer going? Get back up here! There will be no sleep tonight while this storm is threatening the ship!” Scourge yells. "Back to the rigging with you, in fact get up in the sails"
None of you are allowed to stop working, you are each given a soggy biscuit and forced back to work.
Gan is assigned to work the upper rigging, while Felix is told to start line work with Four Skulls and Elthas for the second shift. While Sabinae is ordered to manage the ropes, and make sure they don’t get tangled.
Each of you must make a constitution check to avoid becoming fatigued at the end of the second shift as well as make applicable job checks.
It’s about three am when the cry goes out, ”Man overboard!!” none of you even heard the splash or saw the person fall but some of the crew seems to be looking to the port side.
You can all take a round of actions.
Felix Tahrhal |
Felix reluctantly takes the biscuit, eats, and get back to work.
Profession Sailor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
+4 to the roll if I can work diligently
Felix looks over at the closest crew member as the call goes out.
"Who slipped off?"
GM Faol Mhor |
Felix, When you yell your question out into the wind and the rain you hear Tilly bracket yell back "Not sure! didn't see who, they went over the port side into the water."
If any of you run to check roll a perception check.
Sabinae, Master Scourge is cussing and swearing up a storm when he comes up and finds you.
He appears to have a key in hand. "Whoever they are they probably can't swim in this shit he says and they'll probably need yer help. Get to it!" He says gruffly but also some what sheepishly, as he unlocks the chain on your tail.
Sabinae |
Sabinae gives Scourge a knowing look and then quickly makes her way to the port side and begins checking for the overboard crewmate.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
If she sees them she will dive into the water to get them.
She will use the run action to get to them.
Any checks I make on swimming will take 10 for a total of 22. Since I can use the run action I move at 120' per round.
GM Faol Mhor |
psssh! this isn't even going to be a challenge to you Sabinae :) I might add a few hammerhead sharks just to make it a challenge lol. I don't think they had mermaids in mind when they wrote this part of the AP hehe. Anyway...
Sabinae you easily spot Rosie Cussewll as she desperately tries to kick and swim. "I can't $#%^'n swim she yells." She is now 20 ft. from the boat so even after leaping off the side, diving into the water you are still more than able to swim out to Rosie. She willingly grabs a hold of you.
Others can take an action as well
Gan Laccaran |
I race back upstairs and get to work on the upper rigging.
Climb:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Climb:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Profession:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Working hard to keep everything in order.
----Man Overboard----
Hearing the man overboard call I grab an extra rope from the rigging and make my way to the edge.
Seeing Sabina dive off after the poor soul I ready to throw the rope.
Perception if necessary:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
If I see them or they call out to the ship for a rope, I toss it in their direction.
Throw:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Plus any deductions from the storm.
I will then brace myself and be ready to pull or simply hold the rope should the need arise.
GM Faol Mhor |
Felix manages to grab ahold of a rope and runs it over to Gan who tosses it towards to figures in the water. The rope goes wide in the wind. and lands to far away, but that doesn't really matter when a mermaid is involved, Sabinae can see the rope in the water and should have not problem making it to Gan's rope while holding Rosie's head above the water.
I'm just making some assumptions here that this is what Sabinae will do, if not Sabinae feel free to correct me.
When they make it to the rope Rosie attempts to climb, If Gan and Felix and at least one other person grabs the rope Rosie will get a +6 to her climb as you try to haul her up
Rosie's climb Check 1d20 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 6 = 20
Rosie's climb Check 1d20 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 6 = 24
Rosie's climb Check 1d20 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 6 = 18
What she lacks in swimming the tiny halfling makes up for in her ability to climb and despite cold hands she manages to climb her way up and spill over the railing on to the deck. Tilly Bracket and Sandara are there to wrap her in a blanket.
Sabinae you are in the water and need to make 3 climb checks at DC 10 with a +6 to your roll as well as your climb skill if you wish to be hauled back on board, of course now that you are free you could probably just swim away as well :)
Sabinae |
Faol, my actions as you posted will be fine.
Sabinae will climb up the rope once Rosie is on deck.

"Thanks. she nods at Gan.
Still dripping wet Sabinae returns to working the ropes.
Rope work: Int bonus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Ok, now this is getting ridiculous.
GM Faol Mhor |
lol ouch!
Sabinae you manage to climb back aboard. Scourge at first seems like he's ready to try and put the chain back on but then think better of it and leaves you alone. That is until you start looping the ropes all wrong and getting the coils tangled.
He yells at you and rages and threatens but he is too busy running around the ship to do anything about it right now.
Sabinae |
Sabinae will go to help fishguts make some food for when the crew will need to eat since this rope thing is not working.
If questioned about where she is going she will reply:
"Really? The ropes are not in any better shape with me here. Now since I seem to be reasonable at cooking I am going to Fishguts and help make some chow for the crew so they can eat when this storm is over. Punish me if you are going to but you don't want any more rope tangled just now do you?"
GM Faol Mhor |
Day 9: Morning
The storm begins to weaken but the heavy winds continue to drive the ship into the open ocean.
There is much to do and after a quick biscuit again for breakfast there is no sleep, Scourge is back at it ordering you all to work.
Sabinae is allowed back down to the galley to help fishguts with whatever he needs. When Sabinae gets there she finds Fishguts sober and alert and he seems to have everything under control. He would rather hear about the rescue of Rosie and the storm. Bull session for Sabinae, that includes needing to drink the rum.
Gan is sent to the upper rigging while the swabs are tasked with swabbing the decks.
Because all of your characters are in certain stats of weariness and exhaustion from the storm your jobs won’t come easy to you today so you must make your rolls, including the negatives from exhaustion or fatigue where applicable. You need to each roll a constitution check and four skulls you must roll 2 separate fort saves, one for the disease and one for rum withdrawal. You are also at -2 con (-1 to your rolls) today because there was no rum ration last night and you are suffering from withdrawal, you need to make a fort save to avoid the -2.
daily actions are an option for you all as well, but know your fatigue or exhaustion will affect it.
