RIGHT NOW....
Elgan's at e1. Beldan's at fi. Everybody else is on the ground 50 feet down...
There's 5 flapping birds(?) 20 feet in the air in this room; at d2, b3, e4, c5, and f5...can't quite make them out....squawking and speaking garbled, incoherent, moaning and squawking.
Elgan:
Initiative. Beat a 6.

bump to put this stuff on this new page....site's slow today.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Beldan....and/or whoever else gets up there at the same time as he does...
it's about a 30 by 35 foot room....
a-f top, 1-7 side. It's not a rectangle, though a rectangle is simpler for our needs....f1 is where you stand at the opening through which the rope extends. There's a door at d8, through a 5X5 hall opening there extending roughly south. The ceiling is 30 feet high, arched; at b4, e3, and h3 there are wooden pillars shaped from the wood of the tree.
The floor is covered in bird dander and bones.
When the lantern lights, Beldan can hear, from above, numerous moans and almost squawks.....and gibbersome clucking. More dander is floating down to the ground.
Something's flapping up there.....something somewhat large.
bump, same thing...
Elgan Dreadwood |
HARPYS! Elgan-Hawk shrieks in warning to Beldan and those below,...
COmepletely forgetting that he is currently in Hawk-form and cannot be understood.
Nevertheless, his warning shriek is loud and serves its purpose. He quickly flaps his wings, gaining altitude as he hastily screech-warbles a spell.
From above, the tree itself suddenly explodes into life as his Entangle spell takes effect, trying to nab the Harpies before they can launch into flight,...
cast Entangle on the tree up near where I can see them. Hopefully that will at least slow some of them down!
Riese |
" 'Scuse me fellas....IMBELIA PYRROK DE'FLAR!!!!" 7d6=22 fireball as many as possible, DC18 reflex for half.
Pendobar 'Pip' Bushytoe |
Pip shrugs
"OK man, we'll take it slow. I'll just do my jamming thing."
Pip begins to strum Lucille
"Fly fly birdy
Up high in the tree
Fly fly birdie
Soon you will see
No matter how high
You can't escape me
No matter how sharp
Your talons may be."
Inspire Courage in effect
dungeonmaster heathy |
Stiggy gets up to 40 feet; ten feet below the mouth of the bole, weighed down by armor, flab and hobbit.
On their attack, one of them at b3 struggles loose from the entanglement and plops to the ground.
It's a harpy, though...it seems to get up and move very slowly...it moans and squawks, and is coming for Elgan and Beldan...
New round!
dungeonmaster heathy |
The tree is covered in semi-rectangular segments of bark. They all seem to have faces on them, now that you're this close. Faces moaning in tortured pain.
These faces all about as certainly there as most "weeping Virgin Mary on the wall of my basement--call channel 12 IT'S A MIRACLE!" type phenomena and they're not snapping at your sleeves or anything...
Elgan Dreadwood |
Elgan-Hawk screeches again as he sees the one form flop free of the entangles effects. Though the vines and branches continued to reach after the fleeing harpy, causing her movements to become slowed and preventing her from taking flight,... for now.
ELgan's screeching takes on a melodical tone, and although he couldn't compete with the perspicacious Pip, it is nonetheless beautiful in it's simple effectiveness as ball of flame appears in his claws.
With another non-melodic squawk that somehow manages to sound like a curse even to the non-avian speaking, Elgan hurls the ball of fire at the escaping Harpy. The ball of fire flies true and connects full-force with the hideous creature, and while the creature begins to burn, the original is replaced in ELgan's grasping claws.
To hit, (TOUCH attack)with Produce Flame: 1d20+6=26, DMG: 1d6+5=7
Altai Iscarni |
Huzzah! Can you score critical hits with Produce flame?
Also, mechanically, how do we go about having Stig fly around thrusting a howling Gittik into the faces of the trapped harpies? If anything even remotely similar to this is anywhere in the rules, I've missed it. ;D
dungeonmaster heathy |
I'm not quite sure. He's 10 feet below the bole though, and the harpys are 20 feet up in the air where Elgan tangled them, and there's one on the ground. I guess he could just fly up there, and Gittik could attack; maybe Gittik could ride on his shoulders like some pint-sized Perseus on a hippopotamusgriff.
Gittik |
Gittik attacks the nearest harpy, steering Stiggy with vile imprecations and the occasional tug on the beard.
RH Scimitar: attack 1, 17 + 11 = 26, damage = 3 + 4 = 7; attack 2 = 5 + 6 = 11 = miss. LH kukri: attack 1 = 11 + 11 = 22, damage = 2 + 2 3 = 7; attack 2 = 17 + 6 = 23, damage = 1 + 2 + 1 = 4.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Gittik and Stiggyblimp end up 15 feet in the air, at e2, attacking the harpy at d2 20 feet in the air. Gittik scores some hits; the thing's wounds do not spew blood; it's more like cutting a dried husk of beef than a living combatant.
Riese; Beldan; Oso and Pip left this round.....
Elgan Dreadwood |
Elgan watches the harpy burn, but does not react like it is in pain, then he watches the Stiggy/Gittikblimp of doom as they carve into another one, but produce none of the usual spew of gore from such a violent assault. Elgan's screeches rise in volume and ferocity.
"UNDEAD Harpies?!?" He screams in Sylvan/Avian speak. "I HATE the !@#$%^& undead! How much more can they desecrate?!?!"
dungeonmaster heathy |
Oso lifts a bog standard light crossbow up and tracks one of the birds before letting fly with a bolt.
Attack roll 18, Damage 5pts
It's hard to shoot a bolt up there; it's 50 feet up to the opening and they're inside.
Myeeah, f@#% it. You hit him. Her. It.
