He's often looking for an excuse to run a set of matches though. When one Amber collects up a fighting force or another, to go off with on this war or that, he'll want to use it as an excuse, to "test the mettle of these soldiers," as it were.

Riese drops another FireBurst on as many baddies as he can get in a 5'radius without frying party members.
Riese lobs a firebolt, and hits the duskblade and the blackrobe, and the tiny fairy princess chained to the evil hobgoblin mage.
None drop, though all take damage.
The duskblade at a6 misses Stiggy with a shocking bladed longsword.
The fighter at b10 moves to b6 to menace Gittik; he misses as well the swift hobniz.
The hobgoblin wizard flies 5 feet up into the air, and shoots a scorching ray at Riese; Riese takes 14 h.p. in damage.
"Heal him!" the hobgoblin commands the chained fairy princess; she heals the duskblade at a6.
Beldan has a held action, and it's
round...5!!!
I reckon everybody can go if they want; or wait on Beldan's move. Bel's at b5 and can run out and stab somebody.
Oh, and the scorching ray,....the hobgoblin did that with a wand.

Gittik's scimitar plunges into the hobgoblin's neck, and blood gushes copiously like a waterfall down his chest. The kukri slams into the side of the hob's head, crushing his skull past anything but resurrection.
the airborne hobgoblin taunts Gittik: "I will burn you with the dragon's breath bound in this wand, wild one. I've heard of the hobniz that was a goblin. I look forward to collecting your skull, Gittik."
"Me use you skull as piss pot! Maybe you not dead yet when I do!"

The current hobgoblin goes down, is pulled to the ghoul garbage disposal, and a new one is ushered in to his doom.

Beldan dashes out to flank the hobgoblin fighter with Gittik, stabbing at him with the rapier in rapid succession, seeking chinks in armour and vital organs beneath.
Beldan kills the hob fighter with his first hit. His blade springs forth from his chest, and the fighter goes down.
The wizard is all alone, hovering in his quiet house, but for his thrall fairy princess.
You can reach the mage's leg with your sword if you want, but it's not a sneak attack; say the word....

He claps his hands, and 4 of the hobgoblins draw steel and move to intercept you...

Riese hits him, dead-to-rights. He howls, and the little fairy princess screams in pain as well.
The vile hobgoblin chortles: "kill me, you kill her too!"
Her sacrifice will not be in vain.

Elgan; Stiggy....
ALTAI:
"Oh, come now....I'll make him fight you barehanded. You can wear armor, and full weaponry if you wish." He's enjoying this, you can tell.
Two xvarts scuttle in, carrying small covered oblong dishes.
"Aaaaah...the banana splits."
In the ring, the Clone of Doom has the latest hapless hobgoblin in a headlock. There's a cracking sound, just as JeanLuc pulls the silvery lid off his banana split, and the hapless hob slumps to the floor.
"Dig in, you'll find it most delightful."
Two hob's drag the next unfortunate into the ring, and JeanLuc raises a tiny bell and rings it. Two xvarts nod their head, and go into a secret door behind wooden panelling on the left wall of the room.
As Beldan prepares to strike at the wizard, he hears what he says regarding Tinkerbell, and looks thoughtfully at the chain between them.
