Altai Iscarni |
I can't drop the bug into the well with this angle. Time to go to Plan B.
Screeching a challenge, Altai advances on the golem. Lunging forward, he takes a big bite out of the construct.
Move to HIJ 8-10 before biting the golem. Attack roll 14+12+2(bard)=AC 28, damage 13+12+2(bard)=27. Then we make a grapple check; I have 15+12+2(bard)+8(for being Huge)=37. If it fails, I swallow it whole, upon which he receives a further 21 points of bludgeoning damage and 32 points of fire damage.
Altai Iscarni |
It can try to cut itself out if it has a "light slashing weapon" (those gauntlet blades might qualify); as I'm not the toughest guy around, I might have to vomit it back up if it makes too much of a nuisance of itself in there. It gets more fire and bludgeoning damage each round, so it had better get outta there quickly, though.
And, yes, this is pretty insane. :P
Elgan Dreadwood |
Elgan leans forward, ready to charge alongside the transmutated wizard and help him and the fiesty hobniz against this construct. But he blinks as he sees Altai lift and chug the golem down in one bite.
"Well,... ah'll be a mudbug's nanny,... Yeh don' see dat' ever day!"
Wow. That's pretty scary. Polymorph is cool! And don't forget the requisite 'burp' once you change back! ;)
Riese |
Ah, f~&~ it!
Riese 5' steps to H16 and begins a spell....
"Annelida Pyrrok Olig'chata!!" Riese chants while making wriggling motions with his fingers and pointing into the room. A knot of writhing, fiery worms appears in the room, hanging in the air as if levitating. They seem to avoid all of Riese's allies.
Bright worms-2d6=5 fire damage DC21 reflex for half in a 20' radius centered on the intersection of H-I, 8-9. They hang around striking all enemies in the area for 9 rounds doing 2d6 damage each round on my turn.
Altai Iscarni |
woah....what happens when you change back wit a flesh golem in your belly?
I'll spit it out before I change back. Also, I just looked this up - golems are immune to magic, but flesh golems take full damage from non-spell fire (such as being cooked inside a remorhaz stomach) and fire acts as a Slow spell on it. It might take it a while to get out...
Altai Iscarni |
I like the old remorhaz picture by DAT best...linky
Agreed! It has made a somewhat awkward transition from AD&D to the current system - it should probably have more HD and a higher CR, or not be Huge. As it is right now, it has relatively few hp and sorta meh AC, but does insane amounts of damage - it's probably meant to be a one-shot bomb-monster. Or the best polymorph option out there. I honestly initially wanted a rhino, but who could pass up this thing?
BTW, has anyone found the 1st ed MM picture of the salamander? I seem to remember that it was rather cool.
EDIT: Hey, here it was!

Hey, that would make a really cool Tattoo. I may have to check out more of his stuff to see what else would look cool as a tat. Is there a certain site with his art?
Altai Iscarni |
I thought about the salamander tattoo as well. Great minds and all that. I don't think there's any galleries of hs work, probably because of the way he left TSR and gaming in general.

Pendobar 'Pip' Bushytoe |
Pip will hold that Sound Blast for any bad surprises
Pip stares open mouthed at Altai's transformation
"Wow, I GOTTA make a song about this .."
He strums Lucille
"There's a Remorhaz over yonder,
That once was my friend Altai.
Ohh, there's a remorhaz over yonder,
That once was ol' Altai.
You bettah not mess with Altai
Less you want to see your final day .."
A bluesy riff comes from Lucille
dungeonmaster heathy |
Altairemorhaz may soon birth a flesh golem; Altai takes 13 h.p. in damage as the golem tries to carve it's way out of his guts.
The four doors open; at g4, e6, q5, and s6 (all but q5 are in other rooms that you can't quite make out) four blurry human-size forms emerge or are revealed; there's a blur spell, and a mirror image spell on each of them...
The one at g4 shoots a ball of electricity at Altai from a weird brass and glass largish wandlike contraption; Altai takes 14 h.p. in damage.
The one at e6 also shoots at Altai; 11 h.p. damage.
The other two across the room are awestruck by the sight of the remorhaz apparently...
NEW ROUND!!!
None of them are in the glow worm's radius.
If you were holding an action, you can add it in on your next turn.....
Altai Iscarni |
The main effect of the Slow is that it only gets single actions - i.e. only one attack per round. Good for me!
First things first - the golem takes 25 points of bludgeoning and 30 points of fire damage from the remorhaz' supercharged digestive processes. I delay until the other party members have acted.
Pendobar 'Pip' Bushytoe |
Pip will shoot off that spell into the two opening doors at E6 and G4
The blues riff changes into a sonic snarl
Damage to all affected plus fort save or stunned for 1 rd. 1d8=3
Don't forget chaps the Inspire Courage (+2 atk/dam/charm/fear) is still in effect for the next four rounds...

Oso Legumbe |
Oso moves towards Altai, and casts silence on one of the pair in the far corner, q/r corner that is.
DC15 Will Save for one of the pair, 20ft radius silence.
He then looks up at the beast that is Altai, "you want healing, Oso little pinkie's gonna get burnt, that so?"
