I'd have to agree that knowing we're heading to someplace called 'The Isle of Dread', the eyepatch might end up being useful! Elgan can be talked out of it, probably. And to be honest Beldan has the best chance of that, being as he's not the one(s) usually so gung ho on destroying everything in his path! ;) So, if Beldan wants it, consider that after much serious convincing, the elf stops his protests. Though he still looks askance at Bel from time to time while he is wearing it.
question, is Bel maxing out or even putting points into Use Magic Device? BEcause while we have the usual caster-stuff MORE than covered, it's always a good strategy to have a surprise magical punch up another party members sleeve for when the bad guys think they have the casters pinned down! And I think Pip & Bel would do that nicely!
Haven't even had time to think about buying anything for Elgan. Right now consider that he just doesn't rely on items as much. And he still has a pocket full of scrolls and potions from early on to use. (Before we get so high that using them isn't worthwhile!) MAybe another plus to his bow? or armor/ I'll look at it tomorrow. We have opening night tonite.
The morning sun is up, yet it hasn't decided to creep over the edge of the caldera, and all is bathed in a misty shadow. You're able to take a small boat over to the base of the pyramid.
A steep wide set of stairs climbs to the top, girdled by massive siderails of stone, each with a fresco of a giant snake undulating up to the top, open mouths darting tongues out to the alter and platform there.
The steps are each 1.5 feet high and extremely narrow from front to back; an extremely steep climb.

We're all looking like sahuagin now, right? Did Sencho have any last words?
Altai waddles up to the base of the pyramid. "Damn oversized webbed feet", he mutters as he starts climbing the stairs.
no last words....
Seven sahuagin (i.e. you guys) start up the stairmaster/pyramid in the early morning fog.
You get to the top, it's a wide platform with a 15 foot long altar in front; and at the back of the platform it leads into a building; there's two doors about 15 feet wide, each wood and girded in bronze, with fanciful skull motifs; veinous eyeballs and long stretching tongues flecked with tongues of flames adorn the two great doors.
The altar has a stain on it about 2 feet from one edge;....some dark liquid seeped into the stone aeons ago.

The wild-looking Sahuagin, (No, not Gittik!) eyeballs the doors cautiously.
This brings up a small point - Pip and Gittik obviously look like regular sahuagin. But do they still count as being Small? Changing size entails a lot of bookkeeping, so should we just say that the look like one size but really are another?
Yeah; that'll work. It's like in that one adventure where everybody gets turned into drow,....everybody who's small looks medium, but is still small for combat. Actually I'm not sure it was that way in the module, but there ya go.
Altai Iscarni(Male Human Wizard 14 (Conjuration school))
"No disrespect to ol' Hack Slash Chin, but that 'beetle people' thing he was talking about must be complete hogwash. What kind of insectoid race would carve humanoid eyeballs and flaming tongues on their temples?" Altai fires up a divination spell and looks around.
Nothing on the platform, or on the doors, detects as magic.
oh, and as an aside,.....it's thundering and lightninging around here and it's knocked me off twice now in the last hour; if it does so again I might give it a rest until it all goes away....I think Thor is mad that that History's Greatest Warriors show said the samurai would wup the vikings.

Had a big thunder storm out our way last night too. Sunny now though, guess Thor's over in the US today.

“Evil ones?” opinions Beldan, looking about nervously.
"Oh, sure - but the, um... images depicted here should have a more insectoid, or possibly crustacean, nature if the artists were indeed buglike in nature. Of course, they might be later add-ons. Did you just find whatever it was that took the heads off those intrepid pirate explorers?"
I saw some of that Greatest Warriors thing too. Samurai beating vikings? Unpossible!
“Maybe it’s a picture menu of their favourite food,” mutters Beldan, referring to the carvings as he searches.
Then; “Yeah … maybe. There’s this little wire here, looks like it will trigger something if we open the doors … not sure what. I could try to disarm it … maybe …”
I loved the effeminate samurai guy that kept saying vikings were stupid.....dude....look at our boats, then look at yours, then talk brain power, doucheboy. But then, I was like.....OMG--it's Japanese Riese!!!
"Nice! Let's pull this thing open." With a long rope, of course.
The door opens slowly, begrudgingly.....ancient musky, moldy dust spills out from the room.

There is something similar on Discovery (I think) called Warriors - some ex-Green Beret travels the world to learn about the fighting techniques of all kinds of historic cultures. What amazes me the most about this type of shows is the experts - who are these weirdoes who have dedicated themselves to mastering the Ancient Saxon club-fighting style? How about that Viking guy who could throw two spears at once?

"Hold on for a second." Altai casts another spell.
I'm burning a Protection from evil to cast a Summon monster I, calling up a celestial monkey. He enters the temple, looks around for a few rounds and then comes back and reports to me.
In the massive chamber within....
the "circle" at klm 8-10 is a round pit, stone-lined, that empties into the dark below. At IJ 5-6 sits a statue of a man with a beetle head; huge, 9 feet tall, his body girded in chitinous armor; a similar statue sits at NO 5-6.
At KLM 5-6 is a massive 10 foot tall statue of a snake's head and torso, body coiled below, with the screaming face of a man peeking out of his mouth. The squares on the walls at G4, F6, O4, and S6 are doors.
When the monkey intrudes 10 feet into the doorway, the statue at IJ 5-6 stands up and starts shambling towards the open door....
Initiative.
(oh, and does the map make sense? F-r 13-16 is the platform outside; everything above that is inside the temple. You guys are out there on the "porch" if you will...)
Altai Iscarni(Male Human Wizard 14 (Conjuration school))
"Um, so maybe there was something to the beetle-man talk after all."
Initiative 12+3=15.
BTW, more warrior comparison stuff on Spike right now - ninja versus Spartan. WTF?
um,...Stig hasn't really been around for a while, so I'm kinda considering him not present until Kruely shows up; then he'll appear, ninjalike, from the gloom. I'm taking his lack of presence into account as I construct my creatures though. I'd let somebody npc him, but he needs to level up to 8th even so I kinda feel leery of that.
Altai Iscarni(Male Human Wizard 14 (Conjuration school))
That's a very good point. Go get that golem, Gittik!
Oso casts a gift of bulls strength onto Gittik. Then looks at the ambling statue beetleman.
"What dat? how we kill it?"
"Maybe we make Gittik big enough to hurt it much more?"
Oso will use his move to follow up on Gittik. "I heal you if he hurts you lots."
Altai Iscarni(Male Human Wizard 14 (Conjuration school))
"It's golem - though this one is made from fleshy bits, it is not an undead creature. Also, it is mostly immune to magic, though I seem to remember they don't like fire very much. We'll need to cut it to bits, preferably with adamantine weapons."
