Spotting fresh moonbeasts, the tigers let out earsplitting yowls and charge.
Tiger 1 charges Moonbeast6, moving to T-U 35-36:
Bite: 12+20+2(charge)=AC 34, damage 2d6+10=19.
Claw 1: 9+20+2(charge)=AC 31, damage 2d4+10=15
Claw 2: 10+20+2(charge)=AC 32, damage 2d4+10=16
Claw 3: 11+20+2(charge)=AC 33, damage 2d4+10=14
Claw 4: 11+20+2(charge)=AC 33, damage 2d4+10=16.
Finally, the grapple: 8+25+2(charge)=35 versus the moonbeast CMD.Tiger 2 charges Moonbeast 8. It is now in AI-AJ 35-36:
Bite: 13+20+2(charge)=AC 35, damage 2d6+10=17.
Claw 1: 16+20+2(charge)=AC 38, damage 2d4+10=17
Claw 2: 8+20+2(charge)=AC 30, damage 2d4+10=15
Claw 3: 10+20+2(charge)=AC 32, damage 2d4+10=16
Claw 4: 11+20+2(charge)=AC 33, damage 2d4+10=18.
Finally, the grapple: 12+25+2(charge)=39 versus the moonbeast CMD.It should be noted that the reason the tigers have so many attacks is that they have both Pounce and Rake special abilities - i.e. full and extra attacks on charges and the extra claw attacks on grappled targets. Combining that with Improved Grab and, well, it gets ugly fast.
Tiger 1 hits a few times, but doesn't get a grapple on the nasty frog fom some emphysematous hell.
Tiger 2 hits a few times and does indeed grapple the moonbeast.

Gjetost looks up at the ship hovering above him, listening to the roaring giant cats. "Hmmmmmm....." He sheathes his sword before reaching up, grabbing hold of the railing. He then pulls himself up on deck, making the metal fittings groan in protest.
Move to AC-AE 33-35. Gjetost is Huge, so pulling himself up should be a piece of cake. As fun a visual as it would have been having him climb up with his no-dachi between his clenched teeth, pirate style, the line had to be drawn somewhere...
f%!~ no; he does it. I mean, we have a tree throwing halforcs; let's shoot for the moon! ;)
Pendobar 'Pip' Bushytoe |
Pip will go go for the closest Moonbeast Ak/l 35-35
Pip appears and swivels his bow to the closest moonbeast, waiting for the tiger to give him a clear shot
"Avast ye! Prepare to be boarded!" Pip yells as he fires off his arrows. His singing sword shrieks triumphantly at his side
Elgan Dreadwood |
Just verifying that there are no more Moonbeasts on the ground?
Seeing the rest of the party ascend without his assistance, Elgan shimmers back into an elf. He grins at the Neriad.
"Cuum un Evinder! Yew don' wanna miss dis! Dis iz jes' gittin' tew dah guud purt!" he grins, taking her hand. He immediately Shimmers into a large Medium sized Owl, who carefully holds Evindra in hi sclaws and carries her up to the floating ship. His heavily feathered wings beat silently as he circles, looking for a place to land that wont put the neriad in immediate danger.
Dok |
Dok bolts across deck to one of the engaged Moonbeasts (Edge the deck down to T 33, then angle into S 34) Slashing wildly at the thing.
Tengu Falchion attack 1: 1d20 + 14 + 5 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 14 + 5 + 3 + 1 = 24
Damage: 2d4 + 11 ⇒ (1, 1) + 11 = 13
(Wow... That was some crappy luck. lol)

That's correct; no more on the ground besides dead ones.
Elgan flaps up to the deck and Evindra pops down there.

bummer!
The falchion cannot win through the beast's hide.

Re: resisting; they look pretty despondent; they don't look like they're doing much of anything but cowering.
One of them, though, lifts his hands to Emrael; I've made his square yellow.
"Mercy, Good Lady! Only lend me a blade to reave my way to freedom or death!" he says. He's smiling wildly. He's at least a little mad.
"Damn! I don't know what's more beautiful, ma'am! You or those Japanese swords!"
He's largeish, and his body is a scarred testament to the life of the blade road. He's goodly sized, and his muscles haven't wasted away yet from a diet of gruel and hardship.

ON DECK:
Moonbeast 6 attacks the liger.

Hits ac 32 13 hp

Moonbeast 7 casts dispel magic, and makes the grappling tiger 2 disappear.
Moonbeast 8 casts confusion on Gjetost; dc 21 or he's under the confusion spell.

Below decks:
two fireballs pop off on Satari and Em.
The talking guy is okay; he's luckily out of range.
Many of the chained prisoners are doomed though.
dc 22 wil save or
fireball 1=28 hp or 5 hp with a save
fireball 2=33 hp or 6 hp with a save
and, moonbeast 9 will move up and melee.
Just need the results of the savings throws to see who he/she/it attacks.

The remaining tiger keep slashing the foul moonbeast.
It`s pretty beaten up, but still around. It has 132 hit points; after a quick eyeball, it should have about 40 left. Like all animals, it has awful AC, so all the moonbeast attacks hit, including the rend. This seems like a good time to use its Smite evil ability.
Bite 12+20=AC 32, damage 2d6+10+14(smite)=35. This attack counts as Good, if it makes any difference.
Claw 1: 10+20=AC 30, damage 2d4+10=15
Claw 2: 11+20=AC 31, damage 2d4+10=16
New grapple attempt: 13+25=38 versus the moonbeast CMD.

Will save versus confusion 14+9=23.
"How many are there of these grotesque things?" Gjetost`s stony face twists in displeasure as he charges yet another moonbeast.
I just realised that I have undercounted Gjetost`s damage, as I have forgotten to make his sword Huge along with him. I`m fixing that now. Charge to U-W 37-39 before attacking Moonbeast 7. Attack roll 11+29+1(haste)+3(bard)-4(Power attack)+2(charge)=AC 42, damage 3d8+23+3(bard)+12(power attack)=49.

dungeonmaster heathy wrote:Yeah; just checked "grab" rules. No hit no grapple. It has to hit with the bite to grapple. One bright spot - the smite stays active until discharged, so it didn`t waste it.
Right on......I'm just amazed these three will last 1 round.....

....I'm just amazed these three will last 1 round.....
The moonbeasts seem pretty fearsome to me - great AC, lots of hit points, creepy spell-like abilities... Three at once is more than enough. And, yeah, it`ll get crowded up here next turn. ;D
