Satari pushes himself up onto one elbow with a grunt of effort. "It seems that my fair land of Wu is a popular destination for travelers. Ahh, so weary." The old man shakes his grey head and slumps back to the ground.

"Son of a flumph! Where in the Nine Hells did Beldan go?!" With a snarl, Altai kicks some small rocks past the wagon. "This will not stand! I'll hunt those damnable things to the end of the universe if I have to."

Good thing the green-haired guys are OK - I have no idea how many of my explosive spells hit their wagon. Also, I think I'll need to invest in a Discern location scroll.

"I have heard rumors of this city"

He strums Lucille

Squint shudders a little.

"Aye. She keeps peace.
Watch her sharp shadows though.
And be good or prepare to be amazed....."

Pip nods to Squint

'What brings you hither?"

"Trade. We work for a pair of mercane.
They're searching for a place in Wa's Underdark, called The City of Broken Toys.
Have you heard of it?"

I figure a "city of broken toys" sounds weird enough for a Japanese Underdark....

I'm not gonna cheese this and say a deity intervenes. That's too damn easy for me, and if you guys want to hunt for Beldan, I got some ideas brewing.

Gimme some time to figure out an answer to this question, though; it was pretty nebulous, (nothing much more than the encounter being a fitting retirement for one named "mothman") but I have some ideas.

Just want to be able to provide an answer that is worthy of the goldpiece sacrifice to buy this scroll.

Oh; and........

the rapier Beldan was carrying,........it's a "tengu sword." I've decided that is conveniently named, since a tengu can use any sword, it can become any type of sword, to include falchions and scimitars;......

it needs a new wielder, and will adapt to the new wielder's proclivities in sword usage.

All this Evindra will be able to impart when she is no longer nereid soup.

What are the specs (as far as we know) of the tendu sword?

"+4, cold iron. It has a thin, silvery blade, a grip of finest silvery chain, and a guard like a stylized rose blossom, bedecked with red gold and rubies. As the battle ends, the black swans all take flight. A single black feather spirals down from the sky, and lands on the rose design of your rapier. When it does this, the sword quenches, thrums and steams like a new blade plunged into a waterbath.
And when it's done, add the cold iron quality to your weapon. You now have a "dead swan" trophy."

Okay; I got it pretty much figured out where Beldan is.

But it should be fun.
And.....not a total waste of goldpieces for the curious Altai.

Emrael can make use of it if no one else wants it.

"What the hell is going on with the nereid?", Altai asks as he looks at her newly-liquified form. "Can you fix her up, Elgan?"

The female gnome looks at her;

"That's a nereid?......oh,....."

she does something;

"this is a curse,"

then she does something else.

The nereid is magicked back to her normal form.

"Thankyou, little missy!!!"

Emrael looks around from where she sits, "I did not see Beldan go. Which direction was he headed when you saw him last?" Heh - what would you assume if you woke up and heard the exclamation that he was gone? Teleportation is not the first mode of transport I think of. ;-)

Emrael is all about the katana. She would be trading +1 cold iron holy keen for +4 cold iron, but she can apply keen using her arcane pool ability and she would have +3 worth of points to apply elsewhere. Dok? Would this benefit you?

"I think.....he went west, and then.....poof! they disappeared."

She looks around; picks up the rapier.

It starts shimmering. Reforging.

"Is somebody going to take up this thing? I.....I don't think I'm supposed to....."

Emrael walks over to her to look at the sword as it changes. "What is it doing? What manner of magic is on this blade?"

"I....I don't know. It changes, to fit whosoever wields it.

this is somewhat of a "retcon," although I think it makes perfect sense, all things considered.

a mercane emerges from the wagon, once it is apparent that all the wetwork has died down.

"That's......a fascinating piece there. How much gold you are taking for it?" he points at the sword.

Evindra cuts her eyes at him.

Seeing that there's no way to track the kidnappers without magical means, Dok looks to doing some healing to himself. Pulling a wand from his pack, he uses its magic to cast some curative magic...

Calling Colu to his side while squatting down (remaining on the balls of his feet), he scratches her behind the ears and watches the group's interactions with the green-haired newcomers.

"Need some cure wands, let me know;....." says the mercane.

Dok acknowledges the saleman with a nod...

He gives you a cure light wounds wand, 50 charges, winks, and says somthing about the first one always being free.

"How does it know?" She takes the tengu sword from Evindra (if the nereid allows - she's not going to grab it away from her) and holds her own sword in the other hand, as if showing it what form to take.

She speaks to the mercane without looking at him (it?), "It's not for sale, good sir. Are you well after all of the fireworks?"

"Oh, just fine madam. That ole wagon's been through worse.

I could've given them things some battle, but I don't like spending my gnomes out for nothing.
I'm fond of the wee lads and lassies."

I don't know.....it's magic,....

The blade quenches in Emrael's hand, steams in the air;.........and starts to form into a lovely katana, with a rose patterned tsuba handguard, and silver thread fuchi sleeve handgrip.

A perfect sine wave temper line runs up the blade; it is a rosy pink on the blade side of the sine wave, and a mirror sheened cobalt blue on the back.

back in an hour or so.

Emrael's eyes widen and she looks at the nereid. "How does it know?"

This sounds greedy, but I could apply arcane pool points to one katana, including dancing, while I wield the second sword... I don't want to claim it until everyone else has weighed in - Dok might have a better reason to carry it, for example. I think everyone else has said something.

"Beats me. I don't know a lot about magic."

"Got any scrolls?" Altai is clearly excited to see the mercane. "Any idea why this gang of freaks pounced on you? Or even who they were?"

Elgan lands and shifts back to his normal form. He joins Altai in kicking clods of dirt around until he calms down. he then turns his attentions to the others who were wounded.

Let me check the Druid spell list, I should be able to assist everyone, including the Wis damage if I use a HEal spell I think

Emrael holds the tengu sword up for Dok to hold. "Does it shift for you, Dok?"

Dok indicated off-board that he might be interested in carrying the tengu sword. This possibility of a dancing sword intrigues me - did we keep any of the katanas from the foes we've felled? I'm curious to see how this idea would work in practice.

"Elgan, might I prevail upon you for more of your healing?"

It starts turning into a falchion, when waved around near Dok.

don't recall what you guys have; I'm sure you have a katana collection of some sort by now.

"Uv curse Em, nu problem." Elgan pulls himself away from tending to the neriad, and hurries over to his fellow elf to asses the extent of her wounds.

Just let me kow how far your down, I'll see what I have left to burn. Who had the WIS damage? Was it you EM? I think full Heal will take care of that if I'm not mistaken. Otherwise I'll have to wait till next day for a new spell (Restoration)

A thought on the dancing katana idea in the Off-thread Emreal!

Emrael is down 76 hp, is fatigued, and has a point of Wisdom damage. I'm pretty sure that's everything. It's enough. ;-)

OK! Elgan burns his last 7th lvl spell for a Heal. You are healed 150 points, no longer fatigued, and the Wis dmg is healed. :)

Elgan lays his hands on Emrael in a familiar manner, but before the lady can take offense, elgan throws his head back, letting out a wild cry (Think Tarzan, but Cajun) At his call, there is a wind through the trees and a surge of primal energy. After it's passing, Emrael is healed almost as if never injured. She has a scar or two, but they look as they are years old, faded and barely noticeable.

"De're. Dat shuuld do it chere'!" Elgan says brightly, then sinks to the ground in exhaustion, a small smile on his elvin face.

She smirks and punches him in the shoulder after the shock of the grab-and-heal has worn off.

"Somehow, I doubt all that was necessary. Thank you for the healing."

"You got arrows? I need a refill."

Satari freakin teleports onto the lid of the sarcophagus, and starts wuppin the crap outta the penanggalan.

He ends up grabbing a big old wad of intestines, and smacking her by the head five times into the ground, and she's no longer moving.

The pool beckons. The key seems to be drawn to it, as if by phantom or telekinesis.

I don't see anyone claiming the four katana from this encounter. Is it cool if Emrael keeps the +4 and we sell the others? The mercane would take them off our hands, I'm sure.
