Thinking about going the born a craftsman. He gained status and earned a place into the Duskgarde. Probably a commander role. He carries the banner of the Duke. With his focused trance he can recal almost any information. It also helps him to be a master crafstman and twice as fast as any other.
This is his Code. Will be working on Background since we have a couple weeks I want to make it good.
•Courage of the Heart
To attempt to never lay down arms even when the foe is merciless.
To know when to surrender.
•Faith
A Knight must see into the heart and know that the edge of the cliff may hold wings.
To know they are never really alone.
•Mercy
To feel the touch of tears.
To show kindly forbearance toward any person or creature, that are in one’s power, for a Knight has had to live at the mercy of pain.
Using discretionary power, to show compassion with attitudes and words even to one’s offender, especially those who do not understand.
•Nobility
To uphold nobleness of mind, character or spirit at all times.
To remember even when alone that one has the virtues and duties of a Knight.
•Humility
To make meek one’s heart and be courteously respectful to all.
•Generosity
To give in any manner without the thought of return.
To have the wisdom to see that to give to another is to give to one’s self for all are connected.
•Hope
When one cannot see in the forest, the heart feels the cadence of the voice in the dark, and with bravery the Knight follows in silence.
In times of great distress, to see the droplet of light in a bucket of sorrow, and weave that into one’s armour with cheerfulness.
•Justice
To be fair and not judge others. A Knight knows that to falter is human and to hold out a hand sometimes will strengthen the weak.
•Loyalty
To be faithful to one’s self.
To do no harm to one’s fellow Knights.
Didn't do spells and stuff yet, but just wanted to have the idea down here.

Within the kingdom of Linoor there exists a legend. while the specifics change with each teller, there is a core of the story that remains the same: an individual appears, resolves whatever crisis is under way, and then fades back into the woodworks. While this mysterious person never introduces themselves, a name has begun to circulate amongst the majority of these tales: Chi'Ros (translated from the celestial for untouchable). Many of the tellers of these tales assume that this is the name of the mysterious savior. In this instance, they would be wrong.
Chi'Ros is the name of an organization founded by the first king of Linoor. Technically a knightly order, Chi'Ros does not appear on any list of knightly organizations. It has no heraldry, and no known members. Sponsored by the crown of Linoor, Chi'Ros' purpose is to find and defeat threats to the crown. Unlike a majority of organizations, Chi'Ros trains it's operatives to be able to deal with any situation on their own. While they might find or use people on the ground, Chi'Ros agents are trained to be incapable of forming lasting relationships with the people that they meet.
When Lord Colton appealed to the King, the king sent the royal magistrates, mainly as a cover for a member of Chi'Ros.
The member of Chi'Ros who was sent to deal with this issue is a non-descript human male with an easygoing smile and laid back attitude. People just naturally find themselves opening up to him, only to later wonder why they did so, if they think of it at all.

@Sperow - Changed the gold amount to 1/3 standard and just gave a feat every level :(. Hope that doesn't de-reail you too much.
It's been brought to my attention that the ability to combine spell levels in order to cast more higher level spells is a little uh... much. I think, given that standard casting improves in a logarithmic fashion, I agree with that.
My two solutions are as follows:
1. Just use Elements of Magic (requiring players who want to play mages to read the text - this, as I've mentioned before, is obviously not preferable).
2. Allow every mage to essentially get both of these 3.5 feats for free:
The second option isn't thematically as cool to me, but it does the job. The second option would still apply to word casting. I'll let the people who will be playing mages decide. Feel free to post other suggestions. S/O to Chukie for raising the concern.

Ok, I think I have my crunch done, but want to go over it again.
Garuda blooded aasimar hospitaler Paladin/Zen Archer Monk. Portrait
I'll have to work up a background and god. I'm thinking a LN/LG/NG archer deity, a protector, rather than a hunter. Anything you'd prefer on that front?
I have the back ground, to some extent. Will wrap it up this weekend.

Working on a character intro but wanted to make sure there are no issues with my build. My character, Zeke Ossia, is a Tiefling Inquisitor 6/Wizard 6. He is a worshipper of either Pharasma or a Pharasma-like god(a god who hates undead). I intend for Zeke to be part of the Duskgarde and his specialty in the Duskgarde is hunting undead and necromancers(not all he does, but his focus).
The build for him in my Alias Profile is mostly done, but I'm still playing around with a couple minor things. However, I wanted to double check with you on a couple things.
First and foremost are my archetypes. Zeke is a Witch Hunter-Inquisitor and an Arcane Bomber-Wizard. I'd be surprised if you had a problem with the Witch Hunter but I could see some DMs having issues with the Arcane Bomber and wanted to check before assuming it was okay.
Second is a couple of items I'm looking to use. I'm looking to use a Bolas(with exotic weapon proficiency) and possibly a net as well(without exotic weapon proficiency) to expand his combat options. However, the net especially can be destroyed really easy(I can fix it easily as well but...). My question would be your stance on making the net with special materials like darkleaf cloth(almost certainly leaning toward cheese, but wanted to ask).
And lastly is armor. I'll use mage armor mostly, but for times when that's not an option I wanted an Armored Coat(don as a move action). But my strength score can't really handle the weight of lugging it around. Which brings me to the Silkweave special material. Double cost, but the item is half the weight(much easier on my encumbrance). However, the coat says it's made of leather and metal so I'm not sure if this would work like I want or not. Mithral halves the weight of metal armor but how would I even price two special materials? Or would I just use mithral?
Thanks in advance.

Bhenitia was born to a human cleric of Nerithia, one of the minor demigods. Her father was a half-celestial son of Nerithia. She grew up in Nerithia's main temple, a fort like retreat deep in the mountains of Meiren. Nerithia is the Demigodess of Meditation. Not a lot of call for such demigodesses, people always want the Demigodess of the Hunt, or the Demigodess of Wrath, or of Lust (she's especially popular).
Nerithia, a Lawful Neutral goddess, never expected to have a Paladin, especially her own grand-daughter. But Bhenitia grew up in that temple, studying the precepts of meditation and peace, taking up one of the zen arts, in her case, Archery. It had been expected she'd be a Cleric, like her mother and father, but instead Bhenitia found that martial pursuits and helping others were more her life work, and after 70 years of life in the Temple, she finally took her leave when she was old enough, and began to travel the world, finding those in need, helping them, and using her archery training and calm manner to spread a slightly different view of her grand-mother. One her grand-mother is not quite sure she should encourage.
I hope that background works?

As the elven man hurried along another alley, his world was flipped upside-down, literally. One moment he was moving forward and everything was quiet, and the next he was moving upwards lead by his left ankle and screaming all the way. He bounced in the air a couple of times at about the second story of the buildings around him and settled into a slow spin. He felt his heart hammer away in his throat harder than ever. It nearly stopped when he heard a voice behind him.
"You wouldn't be trying to leave with out paying what you owe, now would you Dryfus?" The man named Dryfus yelped in fear at the voice, jerking his head towards the sound only causing him to over spin and miss his chance to see his captor. As he came back around more slowly he got better view. Leaning against a wall on an impossibly small ledge was a man in a cloak of many different mottled shades, though mostly dark. It made the cloak hard to discern from the wall behind it and would provide excellent cover if he were to wrap it around himself. Peeking out from under the cloak he could make out a longbow and full quiver of arrows. His leather armor was a dark drown and he wore the same shade long, hunter's boots that came up to just below the knee. At his waist were two elvish short swords and a number of belt pouches. He was using a dagger to absentmindedly pick away at non-existent dirt under his nails as if he wasn't talking to a man hanging upside-down several feet above the ground. The most distinguishing feature though, was the odd hat he wore. Instead of the usual round shape, this one was trangular and narrow. If seen from above it would look like an arrowhead. Also, a single feather was sticking out on the left side. In the darkness it completely obscurred the stranger's face.
"Who...who are you?" The dangling man said jerking his head so he wouldn't spin anymore.
"Is this really the time to be getting to know me? Your not really in a position to ask questions. But, you have probably heard of me refered to as the Owl." Recogniton showed in the man's eyes. He had heard of his "employer's" new help. A mercenary and bounty hunter that would do anything for money. An excellent tracker, even in the city, a deadly shot with the bow and an experienced sword fighter. Yes he had heard of him, and many feared him.
"I'm sorry. I don't have the money. Business hasn't been so good lately. He asked for too much. Even if business was good I couldn't put together that much money. Please let me go. I have a family and children. Please, I beg you. They would be so heart broken with out their father. You wouldn't want them to grow up with that kind of pain would you? Ple..." Owl shifted on the ledge effectively silencing Dryfus.
"Oh I don't know. I grew up without my father or mother and look at me now. I turned out just fine." Owl crouched on the ledge, another near impossible feat as there was so little, and brought his face level with Dryfus. The hat was tilted up enough to see some of the man underneath. All Dryfus saw was a maniacal smile that never seemed to reach the piercing green eyes. It was as if the darkness itself was smiling at him. A smile that said "If you answer with anything but the affirmative you might as well be standing at Heaven's gate or Hell's door", which ever you deserve.
It was a practiced trick and got an immedite reaction. Dryfus' rapidly beating heart nearly stopped again and his body, hot from exertion, went cold and ridgid. He looked much like a hanging corpse...until he remembered he had been asked a question.
"Yes, yes. Right. Of course. You turned out perfectly fine." Dryfus answered in as many affirmatives as he could and put on a marvelously fake smile for good measure.
"Good. Now, I know you can't pay and so does you...our employer, so he sent me to come get to see what you two could work out. Probably just going to be a finger or two. No big deal really." The hanging man's body went limp with defeat, knowing much worse was probably in store, but tensed at the next words. "On the other hand...I realize that you have been paying exceedingly high premiums and though you could not reach the required amount, you probably got close, what with being the excellent businessman that you are. Unfortunately, our employer has become increasingly stingy with his money over the past few months so...I would like to run a business propostion by you."
Dryfus was weary of any deal this man would make but he wasn't exactly in the best bargaining position to say no. "Um...okay."
"Good man. How about this? You give me what you have as it is far above what I am getting piad for this job and I let you go to scurry off to your family in some far away city." Owl added a small waving gesture to prove his point.
"You...you mean...I...of...of course. Here take it." Dryfus couldn't believe what he was hearing but it was the best chance he had at living. He frantically searched his body for the money he owed, spinning himself around a few times too, and, though it wasn't enough for his employer it was still a substantial amount. As he came back around he thrust it into the bounty hunter's waiting hand, hope bubbling up inside him that Owl would keep his word.
Owl held the bag of money in his hand admiring it for a second before attaching it to his belt.
"It was a pleasure doing business with you." With that Owl tipped his odd hat, handed Dryfus the dagger and leapt to the street below. Dryfus stared at the dagger dumdstruck before flailing about until he turned so the cloaked man came into view.
"Hey wait! Can you get me down?"
"I said I would let you go, not free you. Chow." The one called Owl disappeared around the corner leaving behind a man hanging from his ankle with a ten foot drop and a dagger. It would funny to see what he came up with in his haste to leave but Owl needed to make tracks too before his employer got wind of what happened.
A few minutes later the guards at the gate witnessed a man walk out of the city in the dead of night, whistling a tune and tossing a rather large bag of coins in the air. Before their slow minds finally realized how suspicious he looked his body seemed to meld into the darkness just beyond the light of the gate torches and then vanish completely leaving only the echos of the whistled tune behind.
My name is Orym Will Luthias but very few know that name. Most know me as the Owl. I am a jack of most trades and I will do anything if the price is right. Money is my busniss...and business is Good.
I'll Have a crunch and backstory later. Going to be a Chameleon Rogue/Urban Ranger.

Background seems ok - point of observation about the Duskgarde though... Following the Noxious March, many undead were simply left over. Some were mindless, some were sentient and willingly served Magister Nox, and others still were simply citizens of Linoor turned against their will and forced to live a life of undeath (known as the Blighted). After vigorous debate, the Magistratum was secretly ordered to purge all undead from Linoor indiscriminately. While publicly refugee camps were created for the undead victims of the March to escape social discrimination and persecution, many of said camps were simply hot spots to ease the purging of fugitive Blighted. Still, some of these Blighted survive in the form of covens. Halduram Colton, seizing an opportunity to strengthen his hold on Harlan and secure his seat, provided safe haven for a variety of Blighted in exchange for a degree of servitude and loyalty resembling slavery. These Blighted are what make up the bulk of Duke Colton's Duskgarde (explaining why the Duskgarde operate at night and why their primary purpose is to root out other covens of Blighted potentially still existing in Harlan and its bordertowns - Colton's command was simple: offer all blighted of other covens the opportunity to join him or be purged from his city).
Arcane bomber archetype is fine, but you'll be practically the only one. Your style/craft will be unique to say the least. I expect the backstory to match.
Net is fine as long as you pay for it.
Use mithril pricing.
@mdt - Background is ok, help me figure out where you fit into Harlan's history and why you're there now.
@Zayne - Try not to be too overwhelmed. As I was telling Oniwaban, I only made the game gestalt to open the possibility of opportunities not present within a single class or its archetypes. I'm not interested in extreme cheese or characters that are extremely crazy with no roleplaying substance. I'd much rather have you play a human fighter | commoner named Bob Bobbington with an epic backstory and great rp sample than I would a vampire gargoyle monk | ninja with mediocre story. Just have fun with it.
@Zayne - Given that I went and lowered the starting gold, don't worry about that. Use the listed prices.
@Jimi - No psionics, they're the same thing as magic as far as I'm concerned, and I don't feel like reading psionics, honestly.

Okay, I am beginning work on the backstory for Arcane bomber, but I want to know what I'm working with. The class itself references the use of alchemy like the alchemist class. Are there alchemists in the world that my character could base his class off of is he pulling this entirely out of his hat? If he is pulling it out of his hat, do I need to include alchemy in the "flavor text" of his bombs? Regardless, I'm going to have fun setting up this backstory.
I MAY have my character jump to different group other than the Duskgarde, but having him be an undead hunter as part of a group of undead is too interesting for me not to try and work out first. So for now sticking with that, thanks for the extra info.
mdt |
@GM - I would think that the easiest way to explain her being in Harlan is that there is a small cult of Nerithia in the town, a few low level clerics or monks, and they have been praying for assistance. Nerithia sends visions to Bhenitia to get her to go and investigate, as she is the closest agent the demigod has?

There are alchemists in the world for sure. They work under the House of Knowledge in Linoor as do most arcane mages. Your craft is unique in that you are combining traditional spellcasting techniques with alchemy and then splashing in some divine inquisition.
@mdt - Works for me.
@Jen the GM - Sorry, we're no longer doing the mana pools mostly because of balance concerns. Instead we're doing traditional spellcasting, but gets Arcane Manipulation and Versatile Spellcaster from 3.5 for free and independent of prerequisites. Check the top of this page. You do get spells from both class and if you're double arcane, let's say bard/wizard, I don't mind you using a 2nd level bard slot to prepare a wizard spell or vice versa. Don't cheese it too hard, but that sounds fine to me. Also, remember story + rp > super awesome character mechanics. Thanks for the interest!

I have some ideas floating in my head, but I have a few questions :
- Would there be a use in this campaign for a character skilled in diplomacy?
- If one takes ranger as one of the 2 sides of their gestalt (or other classes with similar system) would you allow them to take the Boon Companion Feat to get their animal companion back to full level? (as rangers have them at lvl -3)
- from what I've read up to now, chances are highly likely that we will be fighting undead at some point, am I correct in thinking this?
- would you say that you would be focusing more on combat or more on roleplay or trying for the 50/50 approach?
- what is your opinion on paladins? With this I mean, what are your views on their moral code and how "easy" it is for them to fall and lose their powers. For example, would a Paladin/Rogue gestalt be allowed to use his sneak attack while flanking? Or is this "dishonorable", so not done for paladin, etc ... [not that I was thinking in that route persé, was just an easy example]
And lastly, some background related questions :
The main idea I have in my head is a human Paladin(Hospitaler & Warrior of the Holy Light)/Ranger(Skirmisher) who has damphir blood in him (Racial Heritage (Damphir)). He is trying to clear his family name, showing that they are not vile undead, necromancers or anything of that kind. He does this by helping people in need, protecting travelers, healing those that are wounded, dissolving disputes in a amicable manner and when needed he will stand and fight.
- what would you think would be a good scion for this character? I was obviously thinking something in the NG,LG,LN spectrum. Main themes would be Redemption, nature & possibly dislike for undead.
- I suppose if he would be part of anything, than at the very least the Faithkeepers, but I could also see him as being one of those Faithkeepers who work for the Magistratum. And if none of these fit, he could just be a wanderer trying the help where he can.
- Would it be abnormal in this world for someone to have a wolf as an animal companion? It would be more of a guard "wolf", due to the Bodyguard Archetype
Fendrith |
@Theory - I'm going to answer your questions in order.
- Of course.
- Yes.
- At this time in Linoor, I would be shocked if you all managed to avoid fighting any undead, but it's not impossible. So yes to your question.
- I'd prefer a 60/40 RP/Combat approach, but I like to keep my games very player directed. If the party is full of hot headed barbarians that smash first and also smash later, I assume the ratio will shift in favor of combat with very little room for diplomacy.
- "Morality is not grounded in a set of finite rules. Instead it is rooted in trust and a loving understanding, to the best of our meager ability, of the Great Matron. When we arrive inevitably at a crossroads of opposing beliefs, it is that trust that must guide us." -Primarch Ashburne Calder (Speaking of which, if anyone is interested in playing a paladin that's a fugitive from the faithkeepers/magistratum but still hasn't fallen, that'd be cool. Ashburne is quite the guy. Paladin on one side, inquisitor on the other I think -that's not solidified yet).
Anyway morality isn't that rigid, all depends on your motivations for doing that etc.
-Make up your own Scion and I'll incorporate/change it. That sounds very Matron like, though.
- Wolves are fine.
Theorythmus |
Thanks for the quick reply. Think I'll further work out the Paladin/Ranger concept I had in my head that would fit with the background idea.
If I would need to describe him "mechanically" with typical party roles, he would be a cross between tank & party face, with the wolf adding some more tanking & battlefield control, especially when it becomes large at lvl 7.
Also would like to state that I plan to be quite self-sufficient on healing department and will also be able to help others with HP issues after/during combat ^_^
@Gm,
Do you have some more details about the Great Matron? You say it sounds very Matron-like. Which are the things that might not be very matron-like? What might be important parts of my code as a paladin of the Great Matron?
Do you also have a bit more information about the Faithkeepers?
Theorythmus |
Do also note that the GM had said that he wanted to use the Armor as DR and Called Shots alternate rules, might be handy to keep that in mind when building characters.
The first means our AC's won't be as high as they normally would be, but those wearing some decent armor will have DR vs most physical attacks. (The DR also lvl's, +1 every 5 lvl's up to +4 at lvl 20). It's an interesting read. Critical hits also work very differently.
The second has 2 specific feats if you want to make good use of the system. (Does require int 13 & combat expertise)
@GM, I was thinking of taking the trait Blade of Mercy, as it seemed fitting to the character. Are you ok with this?
Ashe |
Yeah but magic items don't exist. I purchased a mithril breastplate and some MW weopons and gear. Nothing else to spend money on.
Armored kilt with a Mithris Chain Shirt is medium armor. There is no step below light armor So the Mithril has no benefit besides for more dex and lighter weight. You can do some searching of the forums to verify. That why there are post asking about if both are mithral, but I never checked on any of those.

Just a note to the GM. I've found out in the last day or so I have to be on an overseas trip all of September, and part of August/October. I hope to have internet access regularly, but I won't know until I arrive if I can reach Paizo or not while on it.
So if that puts me out of the running, I'd understand.
Fendrith |
@Mdt - I tend to be pretty understanding about life given my chosen profession's demand on time and mental bandwith. We'll talk about it as we approach game day.
@Everyone Else - Apologies for the radio silence again, just moved into my apartment proper. Radio silence will probably continue through tomorrow, but I'll try and make sure I've answered everything by Sunday night before orientation Monday. Stay frosty.
Fendrith |
Alright, I'm officially moved into the new place with all of the interblogs anyone could ask for. Unfortunately orientation is at 7:30 and runs until late every night. I've been guaranteed that this is the most tiring and time consuming week all year, so don't go getting worried about our ability to play.
Internet etc took a little longer to set up than desired, so I won't be able to get answers up tonight. I'll get to you Theory, I promise. Same goes for anyone who has messaged me. I appreciate the patience and I'm excited for the story that's cooking up with Harlan. Once again, stay frosty.
