(Male Half-elf Assassin 14)

Doing okay here.

Not me.

(Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11)

Quillian and Nace are the only ones that actually used an encounter power yet, and the only person bloodied is Bodyguard #2, who fled this turn.

(Male Half-elf Assassin 14)

If somebody's going to get something back anyway, I'd take my "Army of the Night" power back... It is pretty nifty. But I have plenty of other things to do if not.

(Male Dwarf Warlord 10)

I have a power that can grant an ally the use of an encounter power back is all, and another power that aids bloodied allies. I will keep having to ask bizarre questions like this. :D

In the meantime, it is your turn. Would sir care to make some kind of attack?

MAP

Dorvin - vulnerable 5 cold (se)
Isari - vulnerable 5 cold (se); takes basic melee attack from L1 at start of turn (aura)
Amenephus
Rusty - vulnerable 5 cold (se); takes melee basic attack from L2 at start of turn (aura)
Quillan
*Glacial drake - under Isari's Aegis of shielding; taking 4 damage the first time an enemy hits or misses Quillan with an attack
Rimeworm larva 1
Rimeworm larva 2 - marked by Rusty; taking 5 ongoing fire damage (se)
Nayce - invisible to drake to end next turn

(Male Dwarf Warlord 10)

My attacks do weird things like that, so I just wondered. Minor - Rub Some Dirt on It on myself. Move - to M9. Surround Foe on GD.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

2d10 + 5 ⇒ (2, 1) + 5 = 8

Hit or miss, Nayce can slide to any other space adjacent to the GD. I suggest J8 or J9 in order to gain flanking against the GD with me and/or Quillan

"Nayce, I'm lendin' a hand!" Dorvin growls, "Let's get this beastie back in the groond."

(Male Half-elf Assassin 14)

J8 sounds fine.

Oh, absolutely Dorvin - you have to know or your powers are useless. It would help you (and incidentally me), if you could all note if you're bloodied or not in your posts.

Dorvin - can you make a save against the ongoing cold damage please.

Dorvin turns his attention to the glacial drake, growling at it as his blow misses, but urging Nayce into a better position to attack.

MAP

Dorvin - vulnerable 5 cold (se)

Quillan's oath grants a divine boon to his ally Dorvin by attempting to bend fate in the other dwarf's favor.

Immediate Interrupt: Divine Guidance on Dorvin; he may reroll his last attack and take the better of the two results.

(Male Dwarf Warlord 10)

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

2d10 + 5 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 = 11

Dorvin feels the hand of Moradin guide his axe...

Quillan helpfully points out a vulnerable spot and Drovin smites mightily, bringing further doom to the drake.

The larva clump nearest to Isara squirms and lunges at his feet, but makes not impact on the well-armoured swordmage.
Basic attack at start of turn
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 - Miss. Rubbish they're rolling, rubbish I tell thee.

MAP

Isari - vulnerable 5 cold (se); taken basic melee attack from L1 at start of turn (aura)
Dorvin - vulnerable 5 cold (se)

(Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11)

Isari steps around to the side of the swarm and once again slashes into it.

Shift to J12 and using Booming Blade again: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34

1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

EDIT: Saving throw vs Vulnerability 5: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Dorvin and Isari, you still need to make a save against the cold vulnerability.

Isari concentrates on the nearest swarm, wiping out a few more larvae with his sonic blade attack.

MAP

Amenephus
Rusty - vulnerable 5 cold (se); takes melee basic attack from L2 at start of turn (aura)

Rimeworm larva 1
Rimeworm larva 2 - marked by Rusty; taking 5 ongoing fire damage (se)
Nayce - invisible to drake to end next turn
Dorvin - vulnerable 5 cold (se)
Isari - vulnerable 5 cold (se); taken basic melee attack from L1 at start of turn (aura)

(Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11)

Edited it in.

(Male Dwarf Warlord 10)

1d20 ⇒ 4

Amenephus fires a Lance of faith against the Glacial Drake:

1d20+9 v Reflex; 1d8+5 Radiant Damage

Rolls: 19+9=28 v Reflex; 6+5=11 Radiant damage

Has anyone called Rentokill?

Amenephus, who gets the +2 to their next attack against the drake?

The drake screams in outrage as Amenephus's attack hits and bloodies it. Sensing an opportunity, the nearest swarm bites ferociously at Rusty.

L2 aura attack on Rusty
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
11hp damage to Rusty and still vulnerable five to cold

Judging on past experience, Quillan seems the most likely candidate

OKie dokes.

Annoyed by the many small, stinging injuries he's taken, Rathorus summons a mighty power to crush the mindless larval mass.

(HP 56/77)

Brute Strike on L2
Attack 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
Damage 3d10 + 7 ⇒ (10, 5, 9) + 7 = 31

(Brute Strike is a "reliable" power, so if I miss this round I get to use it again next round)

Save vs cold 1d20 ⇒ 14

Rusty's blow is mighty indeed and flattens a significant number of squirming larvae. Even so, it does less damage than he'd imagined.

Swarms take half damage from melee and ranged attacks

MAP

Quillan - +2 to next attack v drake (courtesy of Amenephus)

Quillan uses his own divine boon to more accurately attack the drake after moving into a flanking position. With a sad look, Quillan prepares his axe.

"Sorry beasty, ye've lost yer chance now."

Move Action: Shift to M8
Standard Action: Bond of Retribution on GD w/ OoE

  • 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25 vs. AC
  • 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31 vs. AC
  • 1d12 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 damage and on a hit, the first time another target other than the drake attacks me, the drake takes 4 more damage.

  • As Quillan's blow strikes home, the drake roars in pain and outrage, biting the avenger and diving down into the snow.

    Terrible Bite
    Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29 - v Quillan
    Damage: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) + 5 = 12

Drake invisible burrowing in snow and ice
    1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29 - DC29 Perception to know where it is.
Nayce, Quillan and Dorvin get OAs on it at -5 as it heads away.

The prospect of so much fresh food is too much for the larvae, even as the flames licking at L2 bloody it. Both clusters launch themselves ravenously under Rusty and Isari's armour.

Crawl Under Armour (Ref). On hit target takes 3d6+4 damage, is slowed and takes 5 ongoing cold (se both). Miss target takes 5 ongoing cold (se both)

    Quillan - bloodied?
*Glacial drake - bloodied; under Isari's Aegis of shielding (if it makes an attack that doesn't include Isari it does so at -2. Additionally, an attack made against an ally that hits does -7 damage); taking 4 damage the first time an enemy hits or misses Quillan with an attack
    Rimeworm larva 1
Rimeworm larva 2 - bloodied; marked by Rusty; taking 5 ongoing fire damage (se)

    (Male Human Swordmage/Wandering Swordmage 11)

A thin sheet of ice forms between the drake and Quillian. It's not enough to absorb all the damage, but it manages to block the worst of the bite.

Aegis of Shielding on the bite attack, -7 damage. Also, remember, -2 to all attacks that don't include me.

    Isari of the Frost wrote:

I knew the Aegis would reduce it, but couldn't remember how much by. Thanks for the clarification. Quillan only takes 30 damage this turn. The -2 only applies the bite attack and the Riftshard Dive is a close burst and included Isari.

    (Male Half-elf Assassin 14)

    OA 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 (-5 penalty plus combat advantage) vs AC. 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 damage in the unlikely event that I hit.

Nayce moves closer to L1 and strikes at it, his weapon seeming to bridge the great distance between them, despite the presence of a cart clearly in the way.

    Shift to J9. Shroud on L1. Inescapable blade on L1 using the shroud. 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22 vs AC. 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 damage on a hit plus 1d6 ⇒ 2.

Not bothering with the perception check - it is impossible for me.

"Cretin, you'll not be having Rathorus Mournflame for supper!"

    (HP 51/77)

    Minor: Dragon Breath on L2
    Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 vs Reflex
    Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

    Standard: Reaping Strike
    Attack 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 vs AC
    Damage 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
(I've been under-counting my bonus to damage, which should be 10)
(If I miss, I still do 5 damage)

    I'll use an Action Point

    Standard: Reaping Strike (again)
    Attack 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 vs AC
    Damage 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

    Save vs cold
    1d20 ⇒ 19

Merry Christmas, all! Hope you have a good one :-)

I'll roll for Dorvin later today, but I really need to know what Quillan's status is, as I suspect he must be bloodied, possibly quite badly.

Nayce abandons any attempt to follow the drake, slashing opportunistically, but fruitlessly at the vanishing beasty. Abruptly reappearing, he does his best to prise the larvae out from under Isari's armour.

    MAP

Dorvin - vulnerable 5 cold (se)

Briskly giving his muscles a quick rub, Dorvin pounds over the snow and crushes a few more larvae scrunching at Rusty.

Meanwhle, Isari does his best to fend off the invasion from L1, and succeeds.
    1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 - total miss.

Using Fey Step, Amenephus teleports forward to M10.

As a minor action, he casts a Healing Word on Quillan, who may spend a healing surge and gain an additional 4 hit points.

Then, he uses Divine Glow against the two Rimeworm Larva:

    1d20+9 v Reflex; 1d8+5 Radiant Damage
Effect: all allies within the blast (which seems to be everyone) gain a +2 power bonus to attack rolls until the end of my next turn.

    Rolls: RL1: 12+9=21 v Reflex; 8+5=13 Radiant Damage
    RL2: 18+9=27 v Reflex; 1+5=6 Radiant Damage

    Rev DM

    Spoiler:

In case the Glacial Drake is still within the close blast 3, I'll roll for it as well: 18+9=27 v Reflex; 8+5=13 Radiant Damage.

Your healing is a good bit better than that old chap. You roll 2d6 and then add your Wisdom bonus plus any other fancy bits and bobs you have from your equipment.

Amenephus - a couple of things:-
    1. It's a close blast 3, not a close burst, so you only affect allies within that radius - in this case Rusty and Isari.
    2. I've moved you to M11 rather than M10 which would put you out of range.
    3. With area attacks, you roll for each enemy, but only once for damage. In this case, I'm taking the 13 you rolled against Rimeworm Larva 1.
    4. Good call on the Drake and had it been within range, you would certainly have hit it.

Amenephus teleports gracefully into the fray and showers divine light on his beleaguered comrades. The larvae shrivel under the impact and both Rusty and Isari find hidden resources they didn't know they had. Some of the worst of Quillan's wounds suddenly seem less debilitating as well.

The remaining larvae chew furiously at Rusty and immediately discover how indigestible an angry dragonborn can be. Belching flames, he incinerates both larva swarms in one engulfing blast. Isari suffers a few minor blisters in the process, but the heroes are left with nothing but a few hot ashes inside their armour.

    1d20+13=24, 1d10+4=14 - oops. Sorry about that.
    14hp damage to Rusty

Your breath weapon is an close blast 3 and hits L1 as well. It also attacks you and Isari as the Larvae are in your squares. Note that I used the +2 from Amenephus or it wouldn't have hit either Larva.
    1d20+7=11 - v Rusty. Miss
    1d20+7=21 - v Isari. Hits
    3hp fire damage to Isari

Now only the drake remains, its whereabouts unknown...

Quillan grasps the battered holy symbol around his neck.

"I'm needin' yer help now brother," he says.

Beside him, an ethereal creature begins to take shape, eventually turning into a male dwarf with an obvious familial appearance to Quillan but dressed in clerical adornment and carrying a warhammer in one hand.

The spirit looks at Quillan and smiles until it sees the bodies and signs of battle around him. The smile is replaced with a look of puzzlement.

"We're lookin' for a large beastie under the snow. Gimme' a hand would ye?" asks Quillan.

The translucent dwarf spirit looks around with a discerning eye while Quillan closes his and seems focused on prayer. Soon, the dwarf spirit points and Quillan opens his eyes to look.

Quillan's translucent companion points unerringly at the snow. The drake is clearly attempting to cut off any attempts to return to the Citadel.
