GM_Pace |
Yazi drops the (normal, brown, #1) Unchosen next to her and Hajar.
The mad doctor had the following on him:
- masterwork cleaver (functions as a masterwork dagger)
- a complete leather apron outfit, that might function as armor, with several open pockets on the front. It looks fairly new, even after the battle.
- masterwork surgical tools
- two belt pouches
- two potions in clay containers
- two glass bottles filled with viscous, crimson liquid
- a packet of various powders in tiny cloth bags, all different colors, except for three black bags
- gold pieces: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7, silver pieces: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
ROUND NINE
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Monsters: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
(Yazi, Khayal, Bartan, Hajar, Monsters, Paige)
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal continues his assault on the pink gnoll, eager to put it down.
kukri: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 251d4 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
kukri: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 301d4 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
kukri: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 241d4 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
kukri: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 251d4 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Khayal tears into him with the fury of pent up frustration.
GM_Pace |
Although you wrack your brain on the crimson fluid, none of your studies in the arcane arts makes you familiar with the items. They might be alchemical, or poison, given the nature of the mad doctor, or even nothing more than seasoning for the carrion they brought him for dinner.
Khayal's blades drops the last prototype Unchosen gnoll.
(Out of melee.)
Bartan Harrowborn |
"I found several items on the madman's body, my friends, though I do not recognize some of them."
Missed the potions in the clay containers. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
GM_Pace |
You can tell the potions in the clay containers are magical, but more divine than arcane.
The two clay bottles scent as containing calm emotions. The two glass bottles with slow-moving, red fluid don't show up as magical at all. They might be alchemical, or something dealing with nature.
Paige Nightsong |
Paige explains her findings to Bartan, and also tries to discover the meaning of the red liquid with Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 Hm. Gaggleberries mabe? Or centipede belly juice?
Paige Nightsong |
Oh nature's bottom. Guys, these are Trolls Oil. Do you have any idea how hard this stuff is to find? First you usually have to challenge a Troll to a duel. Then if you win, you have to cut out it's kidneys which takes a particularly serrrated edge. Then you squeeze them by hand... Paige looks at the body of the dead doctor. This guy must have been one serious sicko to have some of this lying around.
Bartan Harrowborn |
"Revolting. But useful, for sure. We should keep those for dire straits."
Bartan looks around, and seeing no other exits except the way they came in, "It would seem that we have completed our task of ridding this place of dangerous gnolls and such. Shall we return and report our success? I am magically drained, so a bed and my spellbooks would be ideal at the moment."
Hajar nar Jundi |
Master Bartan, we have just begun our day. How can you think of sleep? Hajar chides the, in his estimation, lazy Varisian.
It's been like 30 minutes since we woke up...
We still have Rokova to find and destroy...Perhaps the Troglodytes we met earlier have an answer?
Bartan Harrowborn |
"I realize this, friend Hajar, but I will be useless in combat as of now. However, I defer to your judgment."
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar will lead the party up one level At least I think its up...I marked our destination with a giant red arrow on the lower map.
GM_Pace |
The paladin gathers everyone from the mad doctor's "rejects room" and leads them back to the iron spiral staircase and the level above.
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 98 Yep
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 55
Random encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 88
Number of gnolls: 1d10 ⇒ 3
The humans, however, literally met a party of gnolls on the way up - as they were on the way down! Three of the beast-men.
"So Rovoka wants more recruits. Down the stairs, he says. Something's killing them as soon as they- hey!"
Fight at the top of the staircase
ROUND ONE
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Monsters: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
(Paige, Bartan, Kahyal, Yazi, Monsters, Hajar)
(GM-controlled reverse flip!)
(Hajar, Monsters, Yazi, Khayal, Bartan, Paige <- SO much better. Let's make that the order you all come out of the stairs on the Encounter Map, too.)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar steps up and attacks the lead gnoll Tempest: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 Tempest: 2d4 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 11 + (6) = 20 Death to all who revere the Rough Beast!
GM_Pace |
The first gnoll gets cut down the middle by the paladin. The others (red and blue) snarled and raised their battleaxes against the humans.
Red Gnoll battleaxe atk on Hajar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Blue Gnoll battleaxe atk on Hajar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
But it's readily apparent that these new recruits are not Carrion Guard level.
(Yazi, Khayal)
Yazi |
Yazi moves up to attack the Gnoll on Hajar's left
Little Gnoll Blue: 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 3 + 1 = 14
Damage (Magic, Slashing): 1d12 + 4 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 6 + 1 = 19
HP 36/57
Dexterity 8/14
Rage 7/16
Resolve 2/3
Sneak Attack 1/4
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal moves around the pilar the long way in order to get next to the blue gnoll without provoking. He swings his kukri into its flank.
kukri: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 231d4 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
additional +2 to hit and damage if bull's strength is still active.
GM_Pace |
(Ya'll went up to "The Warrens and the Middle Temple", using the iron spiral staircase. It's below the first Encounter Map.)
Yazi's attack hit the gnoll's leather armor ineffectively, but Khayal's follow-up finished off the enemy (without the bull's strength; it's been several minutes).
ROUND TWO
Init:
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Monsters: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
(Yazi, Hajar, Khayal, Bartan, Paige, Monsters)
Yazi |
Yazi movers around to attack the last Gnoll from behind.
Red Dead Gnoll: 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 31
Damage (Magic, Slashing): 1d12 + 4 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 6 + 1 = 20
Confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 3 + 1 + 2 = 25
Red Very Dead Gnoll: 2d12 + 8 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (12, 10) + 8 + 12 + 2 = 44
So 64 if confirmed.
HP 36/57
Dexterity 8/14
Rage 7/16
Resolve 2/3
Sneak Attack 1/4
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal steps up and goes into full swing.
Kukri: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 271d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Kukri: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 231d4 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Kukri: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 181d4 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Kukri: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d4 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Most of his blows landing on the remaining gnoll.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar continues with the group north, heading for where he hopes this Rokova lies...
GM_Pace |
Going around the chambers as before, you run into the rubble blocking the collapsed hallway.
Manually clearing the earth from this tunnel takes 1d4 ⇒ 2 hours of work per 10 feet.
You can just barely make out the outline of a typical stone door to the right in the corridor, just as the rocks and earth fill in the area. You'll have to clear enough of the rubble, 1d10 ⇒ 9 minutes of work, to be able to get the door open, even after you look at the lock.
Bartan Harrowborn |
"Digging... seems like a job for someone who can change into an animal, don't you think? My dear Paige, do you have a creature in your repertoire that might be able to quickly dig out that mess?"
I'm thinking anything with a burrow speed should be able to speed up our task? A Dire Badger perhaps?
GM_Pace |
Paige-the-druid becomes a 500-lb, more than 4 ft-tall Dire Badger, immediately crowding out the others looking at the rubble in the corridor. With a few swipes of her heavy claws, she easily clears the rocks and earth in front of the door, flinging it behind her. (All that dirt has to go somewhere - but no DEX checks for dodging pebbles.)
(So the first 10 feet is cleared, enough for the door to move, and for anyone to get a good look at the lock.)
Yazi |
"Daww-" A squeal of joy from Yazi is immediately cut off by the assault from pebbles and dust but once it settles she immediately tackle-hugs the furry burrower. Sho fwuffy..." she says with her face nuzzled deep in badger fur.
After a bit of snuggling she then looks at the newly accessible door.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32
Bartan Harrowborn |
"Will the door require my expertise, my lady?"
If so...
harrow card: 1d13 ⇒ 2 => The Bear (True Neutral, Strength) Won't be long til I need to open up a shiny new pack of harrow cards!
disable device: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 12 + 2 = 22
Even though Bartan is nimble with his use of the card in the lock, the Bear exerts its brute force and Bartan finds himself pushing heavily on the door while trying to unlock it, making it harder for the lock to click open...
Probably not good enough, but we can hope.
Yazi |
lol, just had a flashback to how happy kid me getting a this foil packs of Pokemon/Yugioh cards was :3
"Most likely, stupid doors and intricate clothing should learn to fear your fingers." Yazi muses before she returns to her badger-snuggling.
Bartan Harrowborn |
"Your clothing has nothing to fear from me, my dear. I would only rip your clothing if it was really warranted." He winks at her as he's working on the lock.
