Hajar nar Jundi |
Are we moving on to the second set of doors or whatever lay on the other side of the circle?
Hajar nar Jundi |
Those are locked to keep something inside, lets move on. We can always come back. No consensus needed, 2 and go!
Bartan Harrowborn |
Oh, I thought the FIRST set of double doors was locked to keep something in. Alrighty, to the stairs!
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar leads the party around the dome until they arrive at the second set of doors I edited the map.
He waits for Yazi to check the doors.
Yazi |
As she moves to the front to look things over Yazi makes sure to put a sway into her hips and step as she passes Hajar.
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18
Lol, distracted by the sexy... Actually had a feeling that would happen it I posted the above :3
Hajar nar Jundi |
After Yazi sashays by and searches the doors, Hajar attempts to open them The Southern doors, not the ones leading to the center
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Staying near the light Khayal tries to remain mindful of the shadows he casts. He wishes for open battle, these halls hold easy opportunity for ambush and that worries him.
GM_Pace |
Going counterclockwise to the southern end of the circle, the adventurers see another set of double doors, one leading in, one leading out. The doors leading out, when Hajar tries them, are locked.
No traps, but there's enough rust on those hinges to serve as an alarm to most people nearby when the doors open and close.
There is enough sand on the floor, however, to indicate that this is a major thoroughfare for several large four-legged animals and gnolls.
The paw prints lead counter-clockwise.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hmm. Decisions. Two sets of doors, one leading in and one leading out. We should press onward to the inner doors.
Yazi |
"Agreed... Well, unless we got something to lube these hinges up they'll be screaming just like me on a good night." Yazi says matter-of-factly as she points out the rusted hinges on the southern doors.
Bartan Harrowborn |
disable: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 2 = 14 Bartan pulls out a harrow card and does his thing with his told again, but the card almost begins to disintegrate when it touches the lock.
"My friends, I will not be able to unlock this for it would seem."
DRAT!
-Posted with Wayfinder
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan shrugs, pulls out a second card and says "I suppose I will try again."
Taking 10 this time for a 23
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan looks at the lock with frustration in his eyes. "I could almost feel it click. That's it, we'll let fate decide this one."
Bartan concentrates, saying a prayer to Lady Irez. He then shuffles his heirloom harrow deck and draws a card from it.
Bartan is using his Let Fate Decide rogue power. If the card is based on a physical stat, he will attempt the check again, gaining a +1 Luck bonus from the ability. If it is based on a mental stat, he will walk toward the stairs in the back instead, ignoring the door and any protests from his friends.
Harrow card: 1d54 ⇒ 14 => The Peacock (True Neutral, Dexterity)
"Apparently, Lady Irez really wants me to pick this lock." He pulls out another expendable harrow card to furnish into lockpicks.
I didn't get the chance to roll for the previous set, so this first roll is to remove a card from my deck:
Harrow card: 1d47 ⇒ 46 => The Tyrant (Lawful Evil, Charisma)
Harrow card: 1d46 ⇒ 40 => The Empty Throne (Lawful Good, Charisma)
Taking 10 for a 24 this time. I wish someone had the guidance spell prepped!
Hajar nar Jundi |
Forget that door. Let's move on. to the other doors!
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal watches patiently before thinking for a minute and then turns to Yazi with a strait face, You say you make noises like the door, is that because you are rusty?
Yazi |
At Khayal's question Yazi just narrows her eyes in a scowl. "You guys remember that day just a little bit after we retook Kelmerane, where Dealer had a shiner and he was carrying me everywhere cause I was angry and couldn't walk? You want to find out for yourself? Go ahead and shove all of yourself into Shirin without warning her and without lube. See what sounds she makes then." As she talks she keeps switching her glare from Khayal to Bartan.
Yazi |
Perception: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Also, if you don't want to convey any hidden meanings, dont say "Juuuust missed it" from now on :3
Hajar nar Jundi |
[oov] Here we go![/ooc]
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Stealth...lol: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (9) - 6 = 3
Hajar isn't good at being silent, or seeing things...
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal does nothing but raise an eyebrow, it seems he hit a nerve. No good will come from pressing on it.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
GM_Pace |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 No question about it
The stone stairs open into a large area, a hard-packed sand floor stretching more than 100 feet. In the center of the large chamber are five dens of scattered bones and matted fur. Three of the furs are occupied by snoring oversized hyenas. To the southwest another set of stone stairs goes further down. To the north, a crude wooden barricade has been erected over the mouth of a tunnel, while to the east a larger path through the mounds of sediment leads into a large, dark hall. The southern wall appears to have partially collapsed, but glimpses of another large space can be had through gaps in the fallen masonry.
Three canine noses perk up simultaneously, and an instant later triple sets of growling begin.

(Everybody else)
As Hajar, Paige, and Bartan clumsily go down the stone steps, the paladin's metal-shod shoes ringing on the granite, the light from Tempest shows a large area with a hard-packed sand floor stretching more than 100 feet. Shadows play over the interior as the light source dances up and down, but the smell of gnoll and animal is nauseously strong here.
Multiple growls from large canine-like sources come from the middle of the room, where indistinct shapes are rising from the floor, and moving.
SURPRISE ROUND
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Monsters: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
(Khayal, Monsters, Yazi - the monsters have a higher DEX)
(Encounter Map updated. You can move your figures in the staircase if you want. I made some assumptions about the lineup of the party.)
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Kukris at the ready Khayal moves down the stairs toward the dens on the ground. Will move on google docs when at computer in a couple of hours
GM_Pace |
Three dire hyenas lunge out of the darkness, surprisingly fast for their bulk. They attack the first person down the stairs - Hajar.
Bite atk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Bite atk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Bite atk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 (Not confirmed.)
As the animals crowd the bottom of the stairs, the third rises up on his hind legs, the way hyenas do, and manages to get a good bite on Hajar's bad leg.
Dmg: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
(Yazi, then Round One. Unless Khayal makes a partial action.)
Yazi |
Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 - 2 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 4 + 6 = 20
With an annoyed hiss Yazi will reel back and whack the Hyena closest to her.
GM_Pace |
The heavily injured dire hyena yips in pain.
(Khayal still has a partial action, but...)
ROUND ONE
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Khayal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Paige: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Monsters: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Yazi vs. Paige: 1d2 ⇒ 1
(Bartan, Khayal, Yazi, Paige, Hajar, Monsters)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar sidles away from the base of the stairs to allow his allies to move down. He prays for Healing from Sarenrae LoH: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 and strikes out at the Hyena closest to him.
Tempest: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 damage: 2d4 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 11 + (6) = 21
Bartan Harrowborn |
"Take this, creature!"
Bartan pulls a harrow card and casts snowball, then uses a Move action to calm himself, finally tossing the card at the hyena that Yazi hit (the -20 one).
harrow card: 1d45 ⇒ 14 => The Avalanche (Lawful Evil, Dexterity)
Does not match alignment, but fits the spell perfectly!
card toss: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 4 = 28
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 plus cold: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7 plus Fort save DC 13 or staggered for 1 round
As the card flies toward the hyena, it becomes a snowball in the air, but then a rumbling seems to come from the card and the snow spreads out into a full-on Avalanche, engulfing the creature!
Just to make sure, it looks like the stairs are open to the rest of the area. If this is not the case, Bartan will not cast the spell and throw the card, as he can't see them.
Yazi |
Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 - 2 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 + 6 = 16
Stepping to where Hajar once was Yazi will continue her assault upon the creature she's been sttacking. Unless Bartan dropped it, then redistribute accordingly please :3
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal's partial action was to move, had to get to a computer to actually move the icon, I hope where I went is ok. I think you only get the attack if you can partial charge.
Khayal takes a couple swings at the beast by the bottom of the stairs, trying to nick it right in the jugular.
kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 241d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
kukri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 241d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Odd that both dice roll the same.
Khayal does not manage to strike the vein he was looking for but did seem to at least hit flesh.
