Khayal Bin Haleen |
Bartan wasn't that card a X3 crit?
Khayal swings at the undead attacking him.
+1 Kukri: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 131d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Kukri: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Khayal and I curses his bad luck. It's been like the past 10 or so attacks. All I am looking for is a double digit roll on the die, an 18 to 20 would be nice.
GM_Pace |
Hajar's attack missed the skeleton. (These guys have high AC.)
ROUND FOUR (I thought you guys would be done by now. Low rolls.)
Init:
Avenka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Dhavyn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Khayal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Monsters: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Knowledge: Arcana: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 17 - 4 = 27
The skeletons crowd the stone passageway, multiple arms reaching for those in the front.
Slam atk on Hajar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Slam atk on Dhavyn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
The good news is, it is too crowded for even the undead to get a good swing in!
(Bartan, Hajar, Khayal, Yazi, Dhavyn, Avenka)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar says Begone foul things! and attacks with Tempest 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26Confirm?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Booyah: 4d4 + 14 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 3) + 14 = 24
Hajar will step over the fallen corpses to allow someone else to crowd in behind him.
Bartan Harrowborn |
Oh my, I have no idea how I missed that I critted on that card. Here's the full damage:
6 plus 3 acid rolled before
Crit chance: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
crit damage: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 = 13 plus acid splash: 2d3 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
NEW ROUND:
After seeing his last card smash into the undead and splatter it with tons of acid, Bartan has renewed faith in his card-throwing. He pulls out another harrow card, casts another acid splash, and tosses it at the closest skeleton that is not destroyed.
Harrow card: 1d13 ⇒ 13 => The Survivor (Neutral Good, Constitution) Does not match his alignment
Card throw: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 4 = 12 (-4 from cover by allies)
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 plus acid splash: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Kayla continues attacking the one in front of him, trusting he will eventually hit.
Kukri 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 141d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Kukri 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Well at least I was able to nick him, Khayal thinks to himself.
Yazi |
My apologies about not posting, kinda suffering from Stuck at Back of Narrow Hallway Unable to Get at Anything Syndrome.
Yazi curses to herself at the narrowness of the tunnel and her inability to help.
GM_Pace |
The undead skeleton on Hajar falls, collapsing in an orderly heap on top of the other skeleton. Hajar stepped over the two fallen undead, leaving a space behind him.
The skeleton on Khayal fell to the slicing cut of his kurki. It too, collapsed in a heap.
Dhavyn, unable to do much from the rear, shouted "That's doing it, Hajar, Khayal!"
Avenka said from behind Khayal, "Do you want to move up, Yazi? We've only got three left!"
(Both holding action, just in case.)
ROUND FIVE
Init:
Avenka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Dhavyn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Khayal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Monsters: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
(Dhavyn, Bartan, Monsters, Yazi, Avenka, Hajar, Khayal)
(Dhavyn holds action, again.)
GM_Pace |
(Bartan? 24-hour rule.)
The red-robed leader shuffles back, his feet gliding over the stone floor, and raises his arm, and the bones of the fallen zombies rattle and rise again! The shock of seeing the undead coming back off of the floor races through your mind.
"A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. It can't take any other actions. In addition, the creature takes a –2 penalty on all saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. If cornered, a panicked creature cowers and does not attack, typically using the total defense action in combat. A panicked creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape."
(Last Michael Jackson reference, I swear, but when I read this encounter for some reason the Plants vs. Zombies game ran through my head. Especially this guy. I didn't know we'd lose a player over it, can't a GM have fun at the table?)
(Only one skeleton gets up - Hajar crit'ted the other two.)
The skeletons closest to the living attack Hajar and Khayal.
Slam atk on Hajar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Slam atk on Hajar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Slam atk on Dhavyn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
All the attacks miss.
(Yazi, Avenka, Hajar, Khayal)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar is immune to fear, and anyone within 10' of him gets an additional +2 to save. Also, GM the encounter is fine, its fun and as long as you are having fun its all good.
Hajar swings Tempest again at the undead in front of him. Tempest: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26Noflippinway: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Anotheronebitesthedust: 4d4 + 14 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 2) + 14 = 22 if it goes down he steps over it to threaten the leader.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Will save: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 21 Well that's good.
Khayal continues his assault on the undead before him.
Kukri 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 121d4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Kukri 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 221d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Oh well at least I am not running away in fear. Khayal would not be able to stand the shame.
GM_Pace |
(Mind-affecting fear effect.)
Tempest does not slice all the way through the undead creature, but it hit it effectively enough. The undead slumps to the floor, seemingly finished.
Khayal's second attack connects, and the undead collapses into a pile of bones this time.
Avenka Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 (Whew)
"You first, Yazi-girl." Avenka offered.
Dhavyn Will Save: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6 (Well, we know what the sorcerer is going to do now.)
Dhavyn drops his candle, and, screaming like a little Human girl, runs away back down the corridor. (For 3 rounds.)
ROUND 6

Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Monsters: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
(Avenka is going to hold action, Yazi, Bartan, Khayal, Hajar, Monsters, Dhavyn (who keeps running))
Yazi |
Huzzah for Jackelweres not being able to keep it in their pants!
Yazi happily moves up behind Hajar and takes a swing at the undead currently flanking him with her new axe.
Snowball: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

("Snowball"? You're calling a genie's primary weapon, one of the most powerful at your level, "Snowball"? Argh. :) )
Both Yazi's new greataxe and Tempest miss, their targets dodging out of the way.
"Ha! You said to double-tap them, and now I know why! No more rising, you!" Avenka said, swinging her flail as she followed Yazi.

Bartan Harrowborn |
Sorry for slow posting, my wife and I were visiting my parents for the weekend. I didn't really think we enforced the 24-hour rule on weekends.
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bartan unfortunately sees undead rising after seemingly being destroyed and bolts.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal takes a 5 foot step forward and slashes at the air.

For a build built arround getting crits it would be helpful if the dice did not hate me :)
GM_Pace |
The undead leader in his red mantle backed up, raising his arm again, and the skeleton that fell in front of Hajar got back off of the stone floor! It leered at the paladin, going for his throat.
Slam atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 And missed.
The other skeleton was content going after Yazi.
Slam atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
But it missed, too.

Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan continues to run away (is there a range to the fear effect, such that Bartan and Dhavyn can stop running away at that point?)
Yazi |
Grumbling at the state of their constantly dwindling party she will continue to Attack the creature adjacent to her.
Snowball: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
GM_Pace |
Khayal and Yazi both miss, one by dodging, the other by the unnaturally hard skin of the skeleton undead.
(Bartan, it's duration by rounds. You are now round 2 of 3.)
(Khayal, did you somehow tap into my dice rolls for my Connor of McIntyre character? Maybe if we all roll 1000d20s, we'll get rid of the single digits.)
Perception of the Thing In the Next Room: 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 14 - 4 = 13
Avenka whips her flail at the skeleton on her and Yazi.

Avenka's weapon takes off one of the undead's arms, and it falls, seemingly destroyed, onto the floor.
The undead high priest retreats and raises his arm again, and the skeleton just felled by Avenka rises off of the floor!
(I just realized, without the fear effect Hajar, Yazi, and Avenka get AoOs.)
MWK Flail atk on nearest skeleton: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Dmg: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
"BAM!" Avenka said, with punctuation by using her flail.
(I'll let Hajar take his previous AoO first, then I'll do monster attacks.)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar whips Tempest around for a sideswipe at the skeleton Tempest: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 but he was caught off guard.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar steps left to give Yazi room and then attempts to slam Tempest into the upright skeleton Tempest: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 but he cannot hit the wily creature
You guys jinxed me!

Off in the dark, you hear the far-off sound of a body hitting what was left of the portcullis, followed by human cursing.
ROUND 8

(Yazi, Avenka, Monsters, Khayal, Bartan, Dhavyn, Hajar)
GM_Pace |
Avenka cried out "I'm tried of that one raising them again!" She pushed her way beside Yazi and Hajar, past the skeleton Yazi was fighting, AoO from skeleton: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13, to the red-robed skeleton AoO from him: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12.
Swinging her flail, Avenka aimed for the leader. MKW Flail atk: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 (Confirmed!) Dmg X2: 2d10 + 8 ⇒ (6, 6) + 8 = 20 The metal of her weapon caved in the undead's shoulder.
Turning, Avenka used the momentum of the flail-head to strike at the other skeleton. MKW Flail cleave: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 Dmg: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 The undead fell into a heap of broken bones, clothing, and chainmail.
The red-robed high priest turned, and began to flee, crying out in a whispery voice towards the door.
MKW Flail AoO atk from Avenka: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 (Miss. Should've used Power Attack on that crit.) "It's getting away!"
Avenka complained to the others.
(Khayal, Bartan (still 1 more round of panicked), Dhavyn, Hajar)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar moves forward, striking out at the red robed leader with Tempest! Tempest: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 but failing to hit.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Khayal 12/34

Hajar 30/36 6 Temp
Avenka 24/45 12 Temp

Dhavyn 18/18 12 Temp
Updated HP on map also. And just realized I haven't been using the +1 to hit from the Aid spell at all.....doh.
GM_Pace |
(Thanks, Hajar.)
(The skeleton does not take the AoO on Khayal, it is too busy fleeing.)
ROUND 9
Init:
Avenka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Dhavyn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Khayal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

(Avenka, Yazi, Monsters, Khayal, Bartan, Dhavyn, Hajar)
"Get 'em, Yazi! You got first dibs!" Avekna said, catching her breath.
Yazi |
Happily loping up and turning quick to cut the leader off she takes swing with Snowball.
30ft movement, definitely provokes and AoO.
Snowball: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
If she had still been using her greatsword this would be very messy :3
Bartan Harrowborn |
Finally able to free himself from the grip of terror, Bartan runs back (using the Run action, taking the penalty to AC) toward his friends.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Brother Khayal, drink a potion to recover your strength. We still have a duty to fulfill here. Hajar says, panting with exertion. He begins cleaning Tempest with a scrap of red cloth from the skeleton.
Yazi |
"Now that those annoyances are out of the way lets go squash a bug... right after some scavenging."
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16

Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal unstoppers a potion and drinks it slowly, letting the healing warmth course through his injured body.
CMW: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 5) + 3 = 14Ok I can live with that
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan returns to the group, hanging his head in shame. "My friends, I am apalled that I ran so feverishly away from combat. Please, forgive my cowardice!"
Hajar nar Jundi |
Friend Bartan, it is natural to know fear. There is no shame to be had, only much honor and righteousness in defeating Xulthos and freeing the noble Kardswann. Hajar says comfortingly to Bartan. He holds Tempest in a ready position Shall we go on?
Bartan Harrowborn |
Grateful to not be looked down upon by Hajar, Bartan pulls a scroll out of his scroll case, readying for the next combat.
"I do wish I had more potent spells left in my repertoire when facing Kardswann, but we will have to make do with this ray of enfeeblement and some simple cantrips. Let us hope that our brave melee combatants strike true."
Hajar nar Jundi |
"Your flying cards will be just as necessary as our blades. We will prevail. "

Yazi |
Looking up with a soft smile at the returning Bartan "Yeah Dealer, don't worry about it. Undead mess with people's head, it's their thing. F%*~ing cheaters." before returning to her scavenging.
GM_Pace |
Dhavyn came up sheepishly, picking up his candle and re-lighting it. "That was humiliating." he said.
Avenka lets her flail stop spinning, catching it with one hand. "I need to magick this thing. Undead are tough." she announced to no one in particular.
Yazi finishes looting the bodies and assembles a tiny tin box on a leather cord, a simple bronze headband decorated with an intricate pattern of small green gemstones, and two necklaces of pearls. One necklace changes into a golden chain from which hang a number of golden spheres when Yazi lifts it up.
A phylactery of faithfulness (Sarenrae), a periapt of Wisdom +2, a necklace of fireballs (type III), and a lesser strand of prayer beads.
Being battle spoils, there should be no shame in using them, after their guardians have been redeemed from their corruption.
The red-robed high priest's attire is...somewhat old and musty, but still serviceable. The common chainmail the skeletons were wearing are beyond recovery, even if you had not damaged them so severely.

Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal cleans off his weapons and checks them to see if something is wrong. He decides that he must have angered the water spirit that blessed his sword. He takes some water and drips it onto the blade hoping to appease the spirit.
