Yazi |
As the fight nears it's appearant end Yazi will move around Hajar to get One of the last Gnolls in a flank with Khayal and take a swing.
"Stab!"
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Critical Damage: 4d6 + 8 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 4) + 8 = 22
GM_Pace |
Avenka, Yazi, and Khayal all converge on the still-standing gnoll (#1). Khayal hits first, Avenka follows-up with her flail, and then Yazi stabbed it. What's left falls to the ground.
The gnoll on one knee in front of Hajar (#4) lifts its' battleaxe, but Hajar takes off the entire hand at the wrist, and the gnoll loses its' head with the return stroke.
ROUND 5
(You are still in initiative because of the alarm being sounded. You have a few seconds to decide where to go - back to the Monastery, or you're next to the church, or to meet the battle market patrols head-on. You can even hide in the village, if you prefer. You can talk it out here or in the Discussion thread.)
(Taking the time (1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds) to loot the bodies would get you their equipment, what's left of it.)
(Somebody might want to check out the dead human the gnolls where murdering with their "sport".)
Dhavyn Barr |
"That alarm is going to bring the whole village on us, and I think we failed in our task here. The victim is almost certainly dead but perhaps someone more keen-eyed can find clues how he got here before the horde shows up." Dhavyn says with a slight nod towards the corpse.
"We must either find a chokepoint which we can easily defend or vacate these premises as soon as possible" he adds looking nervous.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal will grab the human's body and look around to see if there is anything that stands out amongst the gnolls gear.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Khayal Bin Haleen |
You win some and you loose some, I must have gotten distracted picking up the body. I would like to put it in a fireman's carry so if I need to I can slough him off quickly.
GM_Pace |
(Well! Yazi's got the appraising eye, it seems.)
Yazi gathers 6 common battle axes, two common spears, 3 out of 6 common leather armors that weren't completely shredded, three belt pouches, one waterskin, 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 6) = 17 silver pieces and1d6 ⇒ 1 gold pieces, and one whetstone.
The dead human was staked to the ground with four iron pitons and pieces of hemp rope. His hot-weather clothing has certain colors and patterns. Hidden in his shirt is a gold lion's head cloak clasp worth 15 gp.
A lion's head with these particular markings is used by Senara, a Chelish town located in the devil-spawn-infested Whisper Woods. It is often used as an example of Cheliax's infernal experiment gone too far. Over half of the town's inhabitants are descended from devils, and nearly a quarter are actual tieflings. Yet the town inspires anti-devil knights and rare paladins.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar raises Tempest and prepares to defend his friends.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal smiles at the though of upcoming battle, the party made short work of the last group of gnolls and he barely had a chance to work up a sweat. He sloughs off the body and steels himself for the upcoming battle.
GM_Pace |
(Two want to run, four want to stand and fight.)
The alarm sounds again, and heavy footfalls can be heard coming from the village dirt path that winds through Kelmarane. Gnollish panting and barks accompany the sounds.
A large Ogre leads the mercenaries from the battle market, and upon seeing the adventurers, the creature grunts with satisfaction and begins running towards the humans, leaving the gnolls behind. At that speed the Ogre will be upon you in seconds.
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan will cast shocking grasp in preparation for the beast, ready to toss a card at it as soon as it is within 20 feet.
GM_Pace |
(24-hour rule; where is everybody?)
ROUND TEN (the new ROUND ONE)
The thumping of heavy footsteps draws closer, and now everyone sees a large ogre coming around the bend at them. With a sneer as it sees them, the ogre lowers his head as he runs, fully intent upon hitting the humans at a full charge. The monster will be upon them quickly. (One round.) Behind the ogre are four gnolls, also running.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Was waiting. Can we ready actions to attack when the ogre charges?
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar readies a strike! Tempest: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 Tempest: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 2) + 8 = 14
Yazi |
Yazi also readies a strike alongside her allies against the approaching Ogre.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
=Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5) + 4 = 15
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal moves to the front of the group trying to stay between the Ogre and his softer friends.
At work so can't edit the map. I would double move if I have to in order to get myself in position.
GM_Pace |
(Everybody but Dhavyn answering, I feel moving on to Round 2 is all right.)
ROUND 2
The ogre looked like it was about to charge barbarian Avenka, but Khayal stepped inbetween the two, raising his kukri. The ogre laughed, and lunged at the human with his bare hands.
(Need Bartan's card to-hit and effects.)
Unarmed Strike with Charge: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 2 = 21 Dmg: 1d3 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 plusImproved Grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
(Khayal does NOT get an AoO)
Hajar and Yazi were waiting for the large ogre to stop, and were slashing with their blades as the giant reached for Khayal. Yazi's greatsword hit while Hajar barely missed with Tempest.
(Avenka and Dhavyn, if they had readied actions, may act before the next turn.)
The four gnolls threw spears at Avenka and Bartan, avoiding hitting their ally the ogre.
Spear throw on Avenka: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 1 = 4
Spear throw on Avenka: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 1 = 6
Spear throw on Bartan: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 1 - 2 = 19 Crit confirm: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 - 2 = 15 (Does confirm.) Dmg: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) + 6 = 17
Spear throw on Bartan: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 2 = 14
(Bartan now has a spear sticking out of him, and will need to make a DC 27 + the spell level concentration check for each spell.)
ROUND 3
Init:
Avenka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Dhavyn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Khayal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Monsters: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
(Yazi, Dhavyn, Monsters, Hajar, Khayal, Avanka, Bartan)
Dhavyn Barr |
Dhavyn moves next to Bartan and hurls a searing lance at the Ogre but he is clearly out of practice and the lance misses its mark.
ray of fire: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 3 - 4 = 3
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
As I mentioned I will be away tomorrow as well and most likely on saturday and sunday. Should get easier after that hopefully.
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan's readied card is tossed at the ogre as soon as it gets within 20 feet.
harrow card: 1d18 ⇒ 8 => The Empty Throne (Lawful Good, Charisma)
"The immensity of the Empty Throne will make you think twice about attacking us, villain!"
Card throw: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 plus Shocking grasp: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 electricity
Just after throwing that card and dealing damage to the ogre, Bartan is skewered by a spear, and looks very close to passing out. Staggered at 0 HP!
GM_Pace |
Avenka's (Round 2 readied action) missed the ogre. Still crackling with Bartan's playing card attack, the ogre roared in rage as it grappled Khayal, meaty hands going for his throat.
Yazi's greatsword cut up the ogre's arms, and the creature shouted "No! Not again! Hurvank can win!". But before he could even put the squeeze on Khayal, the ogre had lost too much blood, and the monster fell, pinning the human fighter to the ground.
The gnolls laughed as they maneuvered around the humans, barking in their rough tongue.
The hyena-men attacked the humans. These gnolls had wooden shields, in addition to well-worn battleaxes.
Gnoll1 battleaxe attack on Avenka: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Gnoll2 battleaxe attack on Avenka: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Gnoll3 battleaxe attack on Avenka: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
While the fourth gnoll swung his battleaxe at Hajar, tongue rolling.
Gnoll4 battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
(Hajar, Khayal, Avanka, Bartan)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar will either 5' step if he can or move and provoke an AoO if he cannot 5' step towards Bartan and heal his wounds.
The Dawnflower's healing light upon you Brother
LoH: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
GM_Pace |
The gnoll takes advantage of Hajar's attention turned away from him.
Battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
But the axe hits only air.
Meanwhile, Khayal managed to push the body of the ogre off of him.
("If your target is immobilized, unconscious, or otherwise incapacitated, your maneuver automatically succeeds (treat as if you rolled a natural 20 on the attack roll)."
(Khayal is now prone at his location.)
Avenka Thalma |
Avenka cleaves while raging at 2 gnolls (the one up to her and the other besides him).
Attack #1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Attack #2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
EDIT: She now has -4 AC because of rage and cleave for the round
Khayal Bin Haleen |
If is is just a standard action to push him off and it is still posible, I would like to use my move to stand up. I thought for sure that I had not pushed him off.
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan nods to Hajar in thanks, then moves around him and moves over to the three gnolls on Avenka and Yazi, pulling out a scroll on his way over. He will then make a concentration check to cast defensively from the scroll.
Concentration: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Unfortunately he is too distracted by the gnolls, and the scroll fizzles. :(
GM_Pace |
(You can stand up from prone as a move action. There is a gnoll nearby (#4), but he already used up his AoO against Hajar.)
(Ninja'd by Bartan! Ready to end the round...)
Avenka's flail head bashes in first one gnoll and then the second, their wooden shields like so much kindling. (#2 and #3 down)
ROUND 4
Init:
Avenka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Dhavyn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Khayal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Monsters: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
(Yazi, Khayal, Avenka, Hajar, Dhavyn, Monsters, Bartan)
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar turns to the nearest Gnoll For the Sun and the Fury!
Tempest: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21Tempest: 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (2, 3) + 7 = 12
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal will slash twice into #4, eager to finally get some swings in.
Kukri 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 151d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Kukri 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 211d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Yazi |
"Mind if I cut in?" Yazi chirps completely straight faced as she steps inbetween Bartan and Avenka to take a swing at the Gnoll opposed to them.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 4) + 4 = 14
GM_Pace |
Hajar and Khayal took care of gnoll #4, while Yazi killed gnoll#1 in a single blow.
(Give me a Perception check, Avenka.)
Dhavyn Barr |
Dhavyn hurries closer to his allies content that they so easily dispatched the Gnolls. "Are we done here or is the plan to fight whole village?" he asks loudly.
The combat is presumably not over with the gnolls and the ogre dead so double move
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan takes advantage of the lull in fighting to pull a pearl out of his bag, concentrating on it.
Bartan uses his level 1 pearl of power to recall the shocking grasp spell he already cast.
Yazi |
"I like that plan Daisy, glad you think so too." she happily and unsarcastically replies while giving her sword a few large swings to fling the Gnoll gore from it.
GM_Pace |
Three hairy, ugly creatures, each carrying a wooden shield and a morningstar, come into view. They appear ready to take on the humans, but the one in the middle holds out an arm, halting his brethren.
"Stop. Look at the gnolls, the ogre. These are tougher than the 'Lions of Senara'. We should wait for the others - and overwhelm them."
The three raise their morningstars defensively.
ROUND 5
Init:
Avenka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Bartan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Dhavyn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Hajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Khayal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Yazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Monsters: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
(Khayal, Monsters, Yazi, Hajar, Bartan, Dhavyn, Avenka)
(Table Intelligence/trait/plot point check: Nobody understood what the second group of gnolls said?)
