"What do you think, Flamebeard?" says one voice.
"Maybe we could get away from Grovth..." says another, uncertainly.
"Lord S-sam-madar and Grovt-th said we could get r-riches beyond our dreams with the J-jewel of the Padishah here, but t-they've been g-gone for days!" another pleaded.
"I'd rather go up against foreigners than Grovth." the voice that shouted at you earlier states, in a lower voice to those around him. "They can't be from Bayt al-Bazan, or else they'd know the efreeti's passwords to the Vaults. They must be looters. We can take them."
"I d-don't know, Fl-flamebeard..." a voice stutters.

After a few minutes of silence, the same voice says "Now look lively, or he might kill us all!" The male voice rose to a shout again, this time in your direction. "No parley, strangers! Turn back, before our Captain arrives!"

Then he casts Divine Power and charges around the corner.

Male Human Gamemaster

(It hasn't been even 60 minutes. Maybe if Khayal had been more of a vacuum cleaner, but I noticed he didn't even roll Perception on the last three vaults. Nobody's rested, either.)

Hajar finds an empty, domelike room in the first chamber past the door. Charging past Nasir and towards the open light of the next chamber, Hajar sees another domed room, well-lit with several fire-like sources. (i.e., 60 ft from the closed door equals the open archway to A8 on the Encounter Map.)

Hajar sees several dwarf figures, their hair and eyes made of fire, in brass-colored scale mail. Many of them hold spears at the ready, while others lift warhammers at the human's swift entrance.

Bartan's cards miss the soldier in the back, but soundless balls of force unerringly hit the fire-dwarf.

GM rolls:

CL7 wand <= SR 17? Eh.

In Ignan:

"Ow. One of those. Everyone, drop!" commands the figure in rags.
Several curses about icicles, pails of cold water, and various body parts are uttered by the azer.

All the azer immediately drop to the floor and roll away (5-foot, prone) from the adventures and the newest occupant of the domed room, averting or covering their eyes.

The man covered in rags tears the bandana across his face away, and Hajar and Nasir see that his skin appears charred or dried over all his body, and his empty eye sockets seep trails of smoke.

Hajar and Nasir, Fortitude DC 18 Save vs death effect:

You gain 1d4 ⇒ 4 (Hajar) or 1d4 ⇒ 4 (Nasir) negative levels. (Hey, I tried to separate the rolls to give a chance of lesser damage.)

Knowledge: Nature 18 or Knowledge: The Planes 18:

That's a bodak, a slow-moving but horrible undead creature. This one appears 1.) vastly more intelligent, and 2.) more patient than the typical specimen.

Hajar heals himself.

Her incredible speed and agility avoiding the worst of the cold, Nasir shakes it off with a shiver, only to look up into the horrible dark pits that pass for eyes of the monster before her. The desert dance lets out a shriek of utter agony as she feels the creature's vile gaze strip away a piece of her life force.

Khayal feels a little bad about knocking out cowering foes, but at least he is not killing them.

(Still need a save from Hajar.)

(Looks like Nasir also moved over near Khayal on the Encounter Map.)

Yazi's dark-colored greataxe sliced the tough undead's burnt skin back and forth in several swipes. "Hm." the figure said, as the woman hacked at him, talking even as he was attacked. "Not bad. I could use -hm- a fighter like you, especially down the stairs. If you're a mercenary, I could pay you -that was a good one, by the way- from my master's largess. What's your -hm- price?" The man wrapped in rags still stood at the end of Yazi's strokes.

Khayal knocked out two of the azer while Yazi fought. Nasir fled towards Khayal's position.

The figure in rags raised an arm, but turned his head as his hand began falling into pieces on the floor, the arm following. "Ah." the man wheezed, in uninterested regret. "The cursed helm. I forgot about the glow. Pity." The rest of the man's body continued disintegrating before Yazi, until there was only a pile of rags and ash on the bronze floor before her. As soon as the figure collapsed, Hajar's helm stopped glowing.

The only azers left (deep red and light green) lifted their heads and looked around cautiously.
