Khayal's Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

So you break camp and make your way North again. Passing by what you now know are golem pieces and war machine ruins, as well as foxhole trenches and redoubts of long-forgotten battles.

It is just past mid-afternoon that you find the Waypoint station. Out on the burned pier Hajar blows his Golden Ram's horn, and an hour later the Nexian galley ship appears on the ocean waves. With the sun in the sky dipping towards the horizon, everyone gets on board. Telling the boatman "Isle of the Dead", the galley pushes off from the pier, and starts heading North from the Isle of Flint.

(Expect 2-3 days of downtime or more. Time for crafting, journal writing, or fishing.)

Male Human Gamemaster

The Nexian galley crawls past the waves up the Eastern coast of the central island of Kakishon, past the island of Arinze, up to the Isles of Night, "threading the needle" at the northern tip of Kakishon, and going back down South.

GM rolls:

1d100 ⇒ 44
1d100 ⇒ 72 close, but no Turtle

Non-elves WIS save DC 15 vs dream:

You are wandering on an island covered with dead trees, and you are searching for something very important,
but can’t remember what it might be.
The trees begin to shorten, their color changing, and instead of dead trees, you find yourself in a wealthy cemetery, one where the people have erected white gravestones to their names and memory.

You spot a small brown cat sitting on a such a gravestone ahead, and you realize that this cat knows what you are looking for. If you catch the cat, it might tell you where to go, or what to do.
But the feline jumps down from its' perch at your approach, evading you and runs away, only to alight on another gravestone.
You pursue the cat.

This chase continues until the cat leads you to a large bronze mausoleum at the highest point on the island.
The front of the mausoleum seems partially melted, and the cat jumps onto the highest step, where several humanoid bones have partially melted into the bronze.
The cat howls,
its screech deafening and pitiful,
forcing you
awake
!

At dawn the next day the boat is still heading South, as a cooler breeze comes over the whitecaps, the snow-topped mountains of the island of Aliskiren in view. As the landing bay of Kakishon and the Pleasure Palace goes by, you see little on either island. All the inhabitants must be further in.

Hours past Aliskiren, another island appears on the right. A small island, tiny even, grows larger as the Nexian galley approaches. It has a single hill, but cliffs on the side you are approaching. A dark edifice gleams with the sheen of metal on top of that hill.

The boatman has the galley almost go past the island, making a sharp turn to the West, then to the North, causing the bow to rise up and the wood to creak ominously. But the boatman holds his heavy golem hands on the wheel, and the galley takes a new course straight into the island proper.

The small island comprises a single hill with a gentle, grassy slope on one side and a high, cliff-backed scarp at its eastern end, surmounted by a massive edifice of verdigris-encrusted brass. Two small woodlands of dead trees cover much of the island’s eastern half, while the west is a gentle slope of dry grass covered with tombstones.

A twin stone quay greets you instead of the usual wooden pier, the solid landing area meant for either a much larger, or fancier ship. The stone leads upwards to a line of stone steps going higher on the hill on the island.

Everyone leaves the wooden galley, feeling solid ground under their feet again.

Bartan very calmly follows Khayal.

Male Human Gamemaster

(Khayal determined the direction...)

The adventurers made their way to the large staircase on the small island. Forty feet across, its treads and risers seemingly unscarred by the erosive hand of time and pristinely free of mark or debris, climbs the modest slope of the island toward the fields above. To either side of the stairs runs a row of columns of the same white stone, each column surmounted with a statue of golden marble that bears a mask of polished brass. All the statues bear the face of the archwizard Nex, but each displays him in the trappings of a different role: astrologer, explorer, scholar, teacher, poet, scribe, ruler, hunter, and warlord.

Spellcraft DC 24:

A familiar brown cat sits on the top step - the same as in your dreams. The cat immediately takes off like a shot to the East, through the trees (that Khayal said you were going towards anyway).

An open wood of dead, leafless myrtle and olive trees gives the island here an ominous cast. The sound of rasping wood in the wind is all around, and the dry branches seem to twitch when viewed out of the corner of the eye.

Rayhan, Nasir, and Yazi only (SO disappointed in Hajar's WIS score!):

You feel a compulsion to spend a few minutes contemplating death at the base of one of the trees.

If you do so, you feel refreshed.

Yazi spots the brown cat scurrying to the large bronze edifice at the top of the hill to the East. (Figures moved on the Encounter Map.)

Male Human Gamemaster

As the adventurers go up the gradual hill past the dead trees, they see a rough circle of limestone columns carved in relief, each capped with a stone griffon, dragon, lammasu, shedu, or similar winged beast. In the southeast corner rises the towering brass building, actually a mausoleum, its facade depicting scenes of a powerful wizard working strange magic upon the world, although the carvings appear partially melted. A pair of large brass doors stand ajar in the mausoleum’s northwest side, and embedded in the bronze are blasted and blackened fragments of a human skeleton.

for Hajar:

Vardishal stirs at the sight of the cat, but it is the half-melted, half-blasted skeleton that makes the ghost of the Templar come to life in your mind. Ah, Andrathi, the Loyal, the Favored, he weeps, my Mistress' pining can now end, with the confirmation of your mortal passing. Strange how your familiar has lived for decades past your own murder by the cruel Jhavhul.

The cat from before sits at the barely-opened doors of the mausoleum, and as they approach the feline slips quietly through the doors into the building's unseen interior, the doors closing with a loud -CLANG-!

As soon as everyone is inside the cluster of statues, an image of a strange, half-formed humanoid ten feet tall composed of air, earth, fire, and water manifests before the mausoleum. In a booming voice, it bellows "WHY DO YOU COME HERE? WHAT DO YOU SEEK? THIS PLACE WAS MADE FOR THOSE WHO ARE DEAD. WHY DO THE LIVING TROUBLE THE ENDLESS SLEEP, THE FINAL DREAM?"

At Khayal's words, the image of fire, earth, air, water, and wind fades away, and the wizard facade on the mausoleum comes to life. Looking at the adventurers, it says "A worthy goal, but elusive. After several minutes of silence from everyone, the image on the brass building animates again, saying “Truth is the most terrifying thing in the world, and the most enchanting. Dare you face it? Dare you use it? Answer truthfully and enter.” The image stops moving at that point.
