not sure... is it a standard to move Vandy 5' back out of AoO range? If so, not sure he can put the potion to his mouth. It seems like something that should be possible, but if it is two moves, so be it. Is this still Urban? If so, he can stabilize.

Swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 Argh! Only one attack again since have to 5' step with a move.

Melee, unarmed: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 12 - 2 = 14

Again the demon retreated while lashing out at them with its long-reaching tentacles, and again Eirik pursued, slowly and ponderously as he had to twist aside to avoid lashing attacks that threatened to knock him even further away.

Vandomir will draw a dagger, 5' to the creature, and then attack with his tail.

As Vandomir stuttered back to consciousness, he recognized there was still he a threat around. He plucked a dagger from his belt and moved towards the creature. His attack, however, was made with his tail...

Tail Slap: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 321d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7

Crit confirm...

Tail Slap: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 + 2 = 171d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 = 11

...which had very little effect on the creature.

Noravia slumped to the ground in relief and exhaustion. "Praise Milani."

"I know that we're more than a little battered but it may be best to make our way back to Hetamon before we do anything else. Whatever I can do for us is merely a pittance of what we need. Once in better condition, we can return."

Looking at Shurshogot's lifeless body with disgust she asks, "His body can't stay here. I'd say it should be burned but that's kind of hard to do underwater. Do we drag him back with us and dispose of him on dry land?"

Does the body remain behind? Won’t a summoned creature usually fade away once banished from the mortal plane? And I think it’ll time for a few bottles of the bubbly stuff, since we are finally free!

Eirik nodded his wholehearted agreement to Noravia’s words. Surely, surely, this had to be the last guardian of the ruined base. The monk made a mental note to exchange a few words with the Lictor on a later date, once they had all recovered, of the level of intelligence his men had delivered. He was too weary to recall the exact wording used, but this “abandoned” base had certainly sounded a lot more inviting a venture before they had penetrated all the way to the lowest levels.

Not that it had been for nothing, he amended to himself, as he thought back to the enslaved aquatic elves they had managed to liberate. And, touch and go as it had seemed to be at times, they had survived.

"Please Callistria," Caleb prayed out loud "Please, please, please, tell me that's the last thing we need to fight down here."

"Noravia's right. We'd be mad to stay down here with everyone in the condition they're in." Caleb pointed to the tendrils of blood spiralling out through the rough water from the injured. "If this is it, then we can confirm it later. If not, then we're better off facing them uninjured."

"I wonder. Seems like the sort of thing that might be worth money. Tillia, wizards are always after occult components to use in weird ways - I saw one eat a spider once - Is this thing worth selling off?"

That's the thing, this one wasn't summoned. To have been her for more than a few minutes it had to be brought in via planar ally/binding/gate and bargained with. That means that it doesn't return to it's home plane like a summoned creature would and is now truly dead never to live again. Thus we now have a body to deal with.

Ok folks, so I need some guidance from the group. It would seem that all of this underwater fighting has demonstrated that Vandomir is somewhat ineffective in that environment.

It is my intent at 7th level to beef Vandomir up as a melee combatant. I intend to take a level of fighter (lore warden) at 7th level. This gives me 2 feats (1 for fighter, and the natural 7th level one), not as many skill points as normal, but at least 2 more than a fighter normally gets, and all INT skills as class skills. I think it's a good fit for Vandomir, as a noble, he's expected to know things.

As for weapon, he has the greatsword from his family, but that has shown to be useless under water. He's unwilling to use that silly peasant weapon, the trident, but a halberd is a respected weapon within all of Cheliax, as the preferred weapon of many Hellknights. And it happens to be a P/B weapon, instead of S. A MW one should be a easy to find, but I'll hope for a good roll on getting a +1 one, although I'll have to turn in my greatsword to "afford" it.

Ok, questions:

1) Power Attack is a no-brainer. Any thoughts on my second feat? I was considering Flexible Foe, Furious Focus, and Vital Strike, but will gladly consider anything else.

2) Are there any INT skills that you guys need me to at least throw a skill point on, so that I get the class bonus?

3) What does everyone think about the cloak of the manta ray? It provides swimming, breathing, and that tail attack, but nothing else. 7200gp isn't super huge, but it's still a sizable chunk, and the amount (roughly) that I am over WBL. If the next adventure is fully under water, maybe we should keep it. Maybe someone else should use it?

Fabian, my current expensive items are:

+1 adaptive composite longbow 3,400 gp
+1 greatsword 2,350 gp
+1 breastplate 1,350 gp
amulet of natural armor +2 8,000 gp
cloak of the manta ray 7,200 gp
figurine (silver raven) 3,800 gp
hat of disguise 1,800 gp
ring of protection +1 2,000 gp
MW thieves tools 100gp

For a total of an even 30,000 gp

If you stay on the rails then yes, about 1/4 of the next adventure is underwater.

That being said, I don't think the group would mind if we assume that the cloak of the manta ray is a 'common resource', much like the ring of swimming currently is.

If everyone agrees, then I'll distribute that cost among all of you.

Just let me know.

I would also NOT count the silver raven figurine, which none of you have used so far. I noticed Tillia and Eirik didn't have it on their list so you shouldn't be stuck with it.

Indeed, as it was specifically stated that you do NOT have to take one +1 enchantment bonus before you can get into the options - you can dive straight in!

Right, I get that, I just didn't get that from your list, because it listed +1 (shock), but I now understand you meant "+1 equivalent cost for shock" and so, yeah, it stacks! Of course that means, no open slot for you for the NA amulet.

Fabian, so is a +1 halberd acceptable?

Tillia was relieved to see the devil die, she didn't think they could take much more of that thing. She saw Vandomir moving and swam towards him and asked, "Are you alright? I...I thought we'd lost you." She tried to forget the body of the devil for now, though in the back of her mind she knew they couldn't leave it forever. She waved her hand then and dismissed the webbing that filled a part of the room as she waited to see if Vandomir would be alright.

Stats

Maybe the Manta Ray is better with Eirik. Is the tail attack compatible with the flurry?
Otherwise potions of Alter Self would get us a long way.

Male Chelaxian Ranger 8 (AC:21[T:12 FF:19] | HP: 73/79 (0NL) | F+9*, R+8, W+5 | Init: +2* |Perc: +14*)

Alter self is a very short term spell, and potions would be even worse! A wand would be better. However, in my experience, if a module expects extended under water, or extra environmental time, it will usually provide a method. The cloak is one such method.

I say we don't try and solve the under water problem completely, let the module lead us, but the cloak is clearly part of the solution.

The tail attack is entirely compatible with a flurry.

"Thank you Hetamon. Your ministrations were desperately needed. It really was touch and go there for a bit. I know Milani was guiding my final attack and that's the only reason I survived."

Contemplating the long list of what needed to be done, Noravia stated the obvious. "We need to start by finding someone or someones who can fix that magical pump. We need to get those lower levels drained if the Lucky Bones is going to be a useful base of operations. Then while that gets started on, we can finish exploring the flooded level."

Noravia agreed that they needed to clear the lower level but she asked, "Wouldn't it be easier to make sure things are clear without being underwater? We could focus our effort on fixing the pump and hopefully get that sorted before searching further. Or a few of us can search while others work on the pump. That way we make the most of our time."

The people and goods would never be in view of ships on the surface and would be incredibly hard to track. It would also give us a potential set of allies to help us flee if we ever had to." Her tone turned much more serious then as she continued, "Even beyond the benefits to us helping them is the right thing to do, I can't simply stand by and let their whole tribe be wiped out if I could do something about it, could any of you?" She paused a moment to let that sink in before she finished, "My vote is we help them, we can have our various teams here in the city take care of things here, help build up our ability to fight Brassy and take back our city."

Action 4
Holding off for now as I'm too tired to deal with this part yet.

When you say that D8/D9 are partially flooded, are they flooded in the expected fashion? I mean, such that the dock is usable?

Yes, that is correct.

Action 3

Vandomir listened to Tillia, and when she finished he added, "I agree with Tillia completely, we are in this already. I believe that helping the elves is something we need to do. They are as enslaved as Kintargo, and I believe Milani has placed their plight in our path for a purpose. Perhaps as a crucible? Or simply to find and save their local contact." He looked expectantly at Noravia, as she was the local Milani expert.

Tag Noravia

Once Noravia was finished, Vandomir added, "additionally, helping them might drain some resources in the short term, but it may gain us a nation of allies in the longer term."

Action 4

We need to find where the passage reach the sea, right?

"A short jaunt under the waves is one thing, but to wage war under the vast sea? If we all agree we should help, the question becomes, can we?" Eirik mused. He was afraid they were venturing too far afield with this one, they had more than their hands full with a rebellion, so should they really meddle in on another people's war on top of it? But, assuming the aquatic elven nation was saved, it might have ties to other elven tribes who in turn could put in pressure elsewhere... Eirik was still worrying what would come after the war, after all, and having allies might mean that, were they ever successful in ridding the city from the Thrunes, Her Infernal Majestrix might have some pressing reasons to negotiate instead of just surrounding the city with her armies.

"We'd need magic again, to be able to function underwater, and getting back to renew the spells after a couple of hours might not be possible. But perhaps the elves can help us with that."
